Macbook air dont awake normal after shutdown or sleeping...

after installing mavericks my macbook air 2012 midi have 2 problems
1. after a shutdown is it unpossible to start the macbook air normally. Only after pressing more than 10 seconds the startbutton and a second normal push on this button start the book!
2. the same problem is coming up the slee mode.
I think the is no image produced for the start or wakeup process.
I cant see the rotating cursor a the monitor by shutdown process.
Who can help??

If it disconnects, you can use the icon in the menubar to reconnect rather than restart.
If the icon isn't in the menubar then go to System Preferences > Network > Select WiFi on the left > check "Show WiFi status in the menubar"

  • Mid 2009 MacBook Air - Most navigation freezes after reboot, fixed after hibernate

On my Mid 2009 MacBook Air, at some point after upgrading to 10.8.2 (not sure if it is directly related), a strange behavior started:
Boots up normally, but then most navigation is frozen.
Mouse cursor moves fine, but can't "click" anything.
Tab and Return keys work, which I can use w/ power button to select restart or shutdown.
Other keys work, somehow got to spotlight window one time and was able to type search term and hit Return
Dash menu won't slide up when I move cursor to bottom, as it normally does
Every once in awhile everything works fine after a restart, maybe 1 out of 25 times
Problem exists even in Safe Boot
Temporary workaround:  I have noticed the problem is magically fixed after a hibernate, until the next shutdown.  So after restart I close my MacBook to force a hibernate, reopen once I see the white light flashing, and then everthing is fine.  So far this workaround consistently works.  I rarely shut down by MacBook under normal conditions so I'm certainly not dead in the water, but I would like to get this thing figured out if possible.
Other data, and what I've tried so far:
Searched to find others that might have had this problem and already determined a fix, didn't find any
Logged in as different user (Guest), problem still existed
Nuked all the apps that were automatically loading at startup, didn't help
Tried Safe Boot, problem sitll existed
Used Disk Utility to Verify Disk, no problems found
    Reloaded 10.8.2, didn't help
Loaded 10.8.2 supplemental update, didn't help
No new apps loaded within last few months
    Not running AV software
Unfortunately I don't have Time Capsule set up
I have about 300 lines from my System Log that captures a Restart after which the problem existed, immediately followed by a Hibernate after which the problem was fixed.  Would it be appropriate for me to paste it in here?  I'm not knowledgeable enough to troubleshoot through the System Log.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Rob

It is very difficult to offer troubleshooting suggestions when the "os version" you are using is unknown as each os has their own troubleshooting solutions.

  • MacBook Air won't wake after shutting lid

    Hey guys,
My 11" Macbook air OsX 10.6.8 goes to sleep when I shut the lid with external monitor plugged in.
The problem is, it will not un-sleep anymore. Usuall just opening the lid would do this, but now it just stays blank on both monitors. Pressing the on button elicits no response either.
To get back to the computer I have to hold on button down for 5 seconds. Presumably this forces full shutdown, Then pressing the on button will do a full load from shutdown.
Incredibly frustrating! Is there ay way to adjust the settings for what closing the lid does?

I have a Macbook Air and it also frequently (6 times out of 10) will not wake from sleep mode, only way to revive it is to hold down power button for 10 secs and force a restart. VERY FRUSTRATING!
I also occasionally use an external Apple 24' Screen (Non LED) and find that the MBAir will often freeze when you plug that into it or unplug it from it.. Perhaps I have a hardware fault on the MB Air? Or will this be fixed in software?

  • MacBook Air not turn on, after hard disk eject, without guarantee

Hello i have two macbook air not turning on,
after ejecting external hard disk, when macbook air is sleeping.
External hardisk ( 2.5 sata) have one ending of USB Type mini-B
and two endings of cable (one for data, other for power), of USB Type A
    After next sequence,
-insert one tail of usb cable into macbook air, the second usb cable into 5v adapter (like iPhone usb adapter)
-after some time macbook air going to sleep
-without waking macbook air, pull out the cable what connected into macbook air
MacBook Air will not turning on.
    even after this instructions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1367
In nearest AppleStore they say that there is a problem with logic part of notebook,
And the minimal price of repair will be cost half price of macbook air.
In other words, they say what they will not searching the problem of this,
they only will replace mother board.
Would you suggest other solutions ?
May be somebody else have this problem ?

OK. I wasn't quite sure. So, the first thing to try is Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM followed by Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC). If neither can be effected then take it in for service as there has been a serious hardware failure.

  • My macbook air doesn't start after being for 2 months off, My macbook air doesn't start after being for 2 months oof

My macbook air doesn't start after being for 2 months off? What can i do?

Plug it in and leave it on the charger for about 5 minutes then try to turn it on. If that doesnt work, contact apple and have it sent out for repair or take it to your local apple store. they will probably cover it for free if no physical damage has been done.

  • 2012 Macbook Air Kernel Panics post after installing Mountain Lion

I recently purchased a 2012 13" Macbook Air.  No Issues under Lion for over a month.  After upgrading to Mountain Lion (and taking the firmware update to support power), I've been experiencing consistent shutdowns whenever I close the lid and let the machine sleep for more than a few minutes.  I've been submitting the error reports and gave apple a call yesterday and we went through some troubleshooting steps but the problem has continued.  Is anyone else experiencing this problem?  Trying to figure out if it's a Mountain Lion or firmware bug that I will need to live with until a fix comes out or if it's possibly a third party software incompatability issue.  Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Hi guys! Just installed ML on my early 2009 MBAir (after market upgraded to a 240g SSD, but still just 2g of ram), and I panicked a bit at first when it turned out to be painfully slow and not displaying right (+slow trackpad!).
Bear in mind that the first thing ML will do is index your files for spotlight, which takes a while and is a bit of a resource hog that will slow everything else down and cause your machine to heat up.
I let it work all night, but by morning, my CPU usage was STILL at 100% and everything slow...
Activity monitor showed nothing over 10% CPU usage... First tip was to display ALL processes in Activity monitor, and not just MY processes, to see what exactly was sucking up my CPU!
Then, and it seems to often be the culprit on MBA's, it turned out that the kernel_task process was using up to 170% of my CPU usage (!). Problem is, that process sort of does a million things, so it can be hard to pinpoint the actual issue.
One of the things it does though, is work against overheating...
Given the download+install+indexing, my machine had been working all day and night, and was indeed getting super hot. Turning it off and letting it cool down for a whole fixed it all.
Kernel_task is back to normal, CPU usage is normal, display and trackpad are back to perfect. And in the end, ML is snappier than SL for me, even with the bare minimum in memory!
    Good luck! <3

  • MacBook Air - Camera not connected after update 10.8.5

After the OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.5, which I updated on my MacBook Air, and I didn't read the part about the camera saying it might not work for MacBook Air. So., carelessly, I updated and then when I wanted to Facetime it did not work.  Then I realised my camera wasn't working for all of my apps. Are the Apple Company going to fix this? Or do we have to do something ourselves? I need my camera back.

    (1) Do this: (If necessary, print this and bookmark the links before starting the process.)
    • If you do not already have one, make a backup of your important files now.
    • Use the  > Restart... menu command to restart your Mac.
    • Use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions.
    • Download and install OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.5 (Combo)
    • Repair permissions AGAIN immediately following the restart that completes the Combo Update.
    • Test your camera to be sure it is working.
    (2) If the problem continues, do this:
    • Restart your Mac using OS X Recovery (⌘-R)
    • Use "Mac OS X Utilities" there to repair your startup DISK (NOT permissions.)
    • Restart your Mac normally.
    • Test your camera to be sure it is working.
    (3) If the problem still exists, do this:
    • Restart your Mac using OS X Recovery (⌘-R)
    • Reinstall OS X. (You will need to be connected to broadband Internet.)
    • As soon as the Mac restarts after the reinstall,
use your Mac's Disk Utility (NOT OS X Recovery this time) to repair permissions.
    • Test your camera to be sure it is working.
    (4) If the camera still doesn't work, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • Macbook Air 11" shuts down after few minutes running

My Macbook Air 11" from mid 2012 shuts down after few minutes running, it is a laptop with very light use. The first time this happen was trying to upgrade to OS X Mavericks, after this I read it was maybe an overheating and definitely the case was hot, after this I placed the computer right in front the AC to finish the upgrade, finally I successfully upgrade the OS but the problem continue. I bring my Mac to service and now they said it is a Video Card problem, it doesn't make to much sense for me. Can somebody let me know if this could be a Video Card problem?

At what point is the shutdown occuring? As soon as you launch the install app?
If so, I would trash the install app file, and re-download it.
First, you might try running a Repair Permissions & a Verify Disk from the Recovery Partition. It is always a good idea to do this before any major software update/upgrade.

  • Macbook air can reboot, but not shutdown+boot :-(

    Hi.
My MacBook Air (1st generation from 2008) does not start anymore. Only a white screen with a question mark. I booted from USB-DVD and checked the hard disk: some errors. So I formatted the hd and re-installed Snow Leo. As long as I reboot, everything is fine. The disk utility shows no errors.
However, when I shutdown and try to boot, I only see the white screen with question mark. Resetting the PRAM leads to the same state: Directly after reset, it boots. When I shutdown, it doesn't boot.
    Any ideas? :-(

Hi Tim, I did not understand it completely before, sorry to ask you twice.
    This looks bad.
The safe boot does not work either I suppose (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570).
    Better go to Apple repair.
I am afraid this is some hardware failure.

  • Macbook air cannot shut down after upgrading to yosemite

    Hi all,
I have a problem from my macbook air purchased at 2012 and current version is Yosemite 10.10.
I upgraded my mac to Yosemite in Oct and it starts not able to restart or shut down. I try to update the software as I see in the App Store and I once again not able to restart. The only way I can do is shut down it manually by pressing the Power button and the software is not yet updated despite it restarted again.
Can anyone teach me how to handle this issue? as it is driving me crazy!!!

    Hi beekatt,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The resource below will offer some suggestions if your battery is draining quickly.  Have you tried shutting the computer down to see if you get different results?
OS X Yosemite: If your battery runs out of charge quickly
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18599?viewlocale=en_US
If your battery on your portable Mac runs out of charge more quickly than you expected, check your battery’s condition.
Hold down the Option key and click the battery icon  in the menu bar of your Mac.
You will see one of the following conditions:
Normal: The battery is functioning normally.
Replace Soon: The battery is functioning normally but holds less charge than it did when it was new.
Replace Now: The battery is functioning normally but holds significantly less charge than it could when it was new. You can continue to use your battery until you replace it without harming your Mac.
Service Battery: Your battery is not functioning normally, and you should have your Mac serviced.
    Monitor your portable computer’s battery
If your battery won’t charge completely
If your battery’s status is Not Charging
If an X appears on the battery icon in the menu bar
I hope this information helps ....

  • Spilled water on MacBook Air - safe to use after a week?

Last Friday I spilled a glass of water all over my MacBook Air's keyboard. I jumped up, tipped the laptop over to get as much water off as possible, and dried off the outside. I took it in to Apple immediately and was told it needed so many repairs, that it would cost more than the laptop itself. The guy who looked at my Air was able to turn it on, but the monitor was flickering and had horizontal lines. He took it apart and said the motherboard was fine, but I would need a new logic board, speakers, screen, etc. and said I should be able to get my files off onto an external hard drive. Since it was such a costly repair that I couldn't go for, I didn't get a list of everything that had to be replaced.
When I got it home, I wasn't able to power it on like he could. I let it sit on my dresser all week, open and upside down, to let it dry and allow any extra water to drip out the front. Tired of looking at it, tonight I decided to try one more time and turn it on, and it did! I was able to email myself some important files that I thought I would never see again, so programs and internet worked. The monitor seemed completely fine, the brightness goes up and down normally, the speakers work, and I didn't notice any problems with the keyboard.
It seems to be completely fine, but I'm a bit worried about whether or not it's safe to use, and if there's anything I should be looking out for. At the Apple store I was told that it needed so much, but maybe it's fine for now? If I am able to use it, should I be thinking about replacing it anyway? I'll be wanting to use it next fall for school. Sorry for the huge wall of text, I thought it would be best to know as much as possible.
    Thanks.

That's great news. I'm not a computer guy but I am very experienced in automotive. The way I see it is even when you took it in and they cleaned it there is no way to get all the water out if it's really bad. The water will cause shorts and all kind of thing will malfunction. Now that the water is dried I would take it in and get it retested. You see, the first test they did on it was not accurate because of the water (causing it to short). Now you can get a good test. Who knows, it might be just fine. I remember drying  cars for weeks at a time. One thing to have them look for is any corrosion that might had formed. My guess (only a guess) is that if it's working good now you got really lucky and it will be fine.

  • Macbook Air won't start after Yosemite update

    Hi all,
I have a late 2013 model macbook air (just out of the 1 year warranty). I updated to Yosemite last night and to complete the install I restarted the macbook when prompted, but it never turned back ok.
I can now hear the macbook trying to start up but it does nothing. I have tried to reset the SMC and I can see the power adapter change colour from orange to green for a few seconds but this does not appear to fix the issue.
    Any help is appreciated,
    Peter

If that doesn't work, this link may help you identify the problem
    https://www.ifixit.com/Wiki/MacBook_Air_Troubleshooting#Section_MacBook_Air_won_ t_turn_on
If you still think its SMC issue you can try manual SMC Reset (At your own risk ). Steps are..
    1. Open the lower case
    2. Disconnect the battery connector and after few secords connect it back and close the lid

  • MacBook Air 2011 Fan increased after installed mountain lion

    Hi all,
I have a Macbook Air 2011, Intel core i7. After when I installed ML I noticed that battery go down very fast (about 2:40h) and the Fan speed RPM is about 6500 all time, but I haven't any strong operation pending or App. I have the same app open since lion (Internet, chat, jdownloader) in background (skydrive, evernote, weatherhd) the same app and background task I have with Lion.
In monitor activity all task is from 1% to 20-30% of usage.
    Any Tips?

I only have the fan kick in when the graphics is getting hit hard (playing games, driving external displays, etc) with crappy intel on board graphics.
Is your MacBook Air in a protective case, skin or having anything block the vent hinge?
Definitely sounds like the OS thinks it needs to keep running the fan.
You might try this smart temperature desktop widget and monitor your temperature to see if there is any sane reason for the fans to be on (they are loud!).

My CPU Temp A Diode reports 117 plugged into AC with no fan running on a 13" MBA mid 2011
