MacBook Air DVD or CD Sharing on different subnets

I'm an admin testing the MBA and trying to figure out how to get a shared CD from my MacPro on a LAN subnet shared to the MBA on a Wifi subnet. I have multiple VLAN's across the enterprise and was wondering if remote disc only used the auto discovery feature within the same subnet. Can someone please clarify?

Contact the carrier to make sure you imputed all their information correctly.
Read your routers user manual, call their customer support department or visit their website for further support.
Other things to try - Change your router channel. Sometimes this is all you will have to do.
Power cycling the router. Read the router's user manual or contact their tech support for instructions.

Unlock the padlock
Locations: Automatic
Highlight Airport
Click the Assist Me button
In the popup window click the Diagnostic button.
System Preferences/Network- Unlock padlock. Highlight Airport. Network Name-select your name. Click on the Advanced button. Airport/Preferred Networks-delete all that is not your network.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined." Click the OK button and lock the padlock. Restart your computer.

No internet connection (wireless)
Check to see if an extra entry is present in the DNS Tab for your wireless connection (System Preferences/Network/Airport/Advanced/DNS).
Delete all extra entries that you find.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined."

Is there any way for me to download microsoft office on my macbook air and it will write in different languges like hebrew without looking wierd ?

I can not find how to download microsoft office from the apps in the appstore and have it work in hebrew . i need to be able to write in hebrew and that the letters will not mess up on the page . help ..

MS Office for Mac has never supported Hebrew/Arabic scripts. You have to use something else. Mellel is best, but Pages 5, TextEdit, Nisus Writer, or Open/LibreOffice should also work OK.

Sharing across different subnets

I have successfully connected a remote PC to my WRV54G using QuickVPN. That remote PC can ping computers across the VPN and those computers can likewise ping the remote PC. I have even successfully connected with Remote Desktop from that remote PC and controlled a computer across the VPN.
I can not, however, access shared resources on the computers across the VPN from the remote PC. (For the sake of discussion, assume that no firewalls exist in my scenario.) The remote PC has a local IP address of 192.168.1.4 and the computers behind the VPN have a local subnet of 10.109.220.0. I attempted to use the "run" command in windows and typed "//10.109.220.100/" from the remote PC to open the shared resources on the computer with that address. This did not work; I only received an error message. I didn't expect to be able to "see" computers across the VPN since the subnets are different, but I did expect to be able to access shared resources if I knew the IP addresses beforehand.
Can anyone help me?

Is the remote computer in the same Workgroup as the local computer? It might help if they are.

Control Lync desktop sharing between different subnets

Hi all..I want to control desktop sharing between differnet network.You consider this as we have multiple process.So desktop sharing should not work between other federated partners.
I have federation with xxxx.com for one xxxsubnet
another federation with yyyy.com for different yyysubnet
if i allow ports for desktop sharing with federated partner from both the network between theses partners all users can do desktop share.
But i neeed a solution like xxx subnet can share desktop only with xxx.com and yyy can share desktop with yyyy.com

DVD CD Sharing on Macbook Air only???????

Seeing how the DVD CD sharing is installed with 10.5, can any Mac computer share other drives, or can only the macbook Air utilize other drives??

Download the appropriate software from Apple for the machine with the optical drive, not the Air.

You will see Remote Disc on the left pane in the Finder on the Air. It will automatically find any discs you want to share.

A very interesting NOTE to this thread. In order to try and get the "ignore permissions" box to show up in GET INFO (so I could execute Matt the Magician's solution to file sharing issues)-- I ran the terminal command for disabling ACLs on my internal HD / start up disk (as indicated in the linked thread to BDAqua's forum).
Although I understand that this was useless for disabling permissions on the start up disk (as everyone here pointed out) and allowing me to see the "ignore permissions" check box - somehow it did seem to fix my file sharing problem...and that was the root problem I wanted solved in the first place! After doing the terminal command and a quick reboot, I went in and tested file sharing on the chosen directory and I can create new files or work from existing files in the directory, with both users being able to modify / and save from both machines and each machine sees the revisions and can build from them. Bottom line - I'm stoked and want to thank everyone for their help.
The only other tweak I made was going over to my wife's machine and instead of using her log in / password, I just used my name and password to connect to my main machine that was sharing directories. Maybe that's what fixed the problem or the ACL disable but either way...I'm up and running the way I want to be.
Hope this thread helps anyone else who has these file sharing / permissions issues with Leopard. Especially for anyone wanting to do such a simple file sharing set up between 2 computers. I wish I understood exactly which tweak fixed the problem, but at least it works the way I want now.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Dvd player macbook air

Just migrated from a macbook pro to a macbook air, and now I can't remove the "dvd/cd" features from the settings or uninstall dvd player. this is obviously cosmetic but a potential oversight by Apple team. any thoughts how i can fix this? edit my profile or something?

Don't forget that you can also use a shared SuperDrive from another Mac wirelessly! Quite a useful feature.
If you want to get rid of the CD/DVD options:
1. Open System Preferences
2. From the Menu View --> Customize...
3. Uncheck CD/DVD and press done.

Running dvd from MacBook Air

I am trying run a dvd on my new Macbook Air, I am running the dvd from my iMac but it is slow and not running correctly.
Any suggestions on running dvd's from the network to the Macbook Air?
