Macbook air free space to high

My MacBook Air shows 549GB free Space... (I only have 512GB... the half of it is used!).

I just installed OS X again. Now all is o.k.! Not the fastest solution, but it works.

  • Macbook Air Squeaky Space bar

Hi I was wondering what some of the underlying causes of a squeaky space bar are, as recently I have noticed a faint squeak when the space bar is pressed in the center, but if it is pressed to the far right bottom corner it does not, this is recently my 4th replacement and I cannot really be all that bothered returning this one if the causes of the problem is miniscule.
As I am not a computor technician, or someone who has a vast knowladge of the macbook air 13inch base model, I throw this question to anyone who is willing to help give me more answers, and support in regards to my dilemma.
Reason for returning my other macbook air products, was A: They where damaged out of the box, or they had internal structural issues, and yes they where purchased from the apple store, and they might have had a bad batch of products, so I dont really blame anyone, as apple replaced all of the products that where damaged, and have outstanding customer service.
    Thanks

I just delt with it, as the problem was minor, and wasnt noticeable only when in areas of utter silence, but after acouple more days the (spacebar) seemed to adujst and the noise was less, and become fainter till it was no more, but before I decided to just ignore it and let it work itself out I did some research of course
And my research lead to the conclusion that apple have had problems with the macbook air 11-13 inch models reason for this was the spacebar was not responsive in some cases so apple adjusted the space bar and tried to fix the problem, the problem was (the spacebar) was pressed to the point of no response during production, where it was less or not responsive in some cases, and there for the adjustment has thus caused another issue altogether where the space bar has been adjusted but has to much response in the mechanism causing the sound that we are all hearing if only for a short while.
My adivce is this jose, do not under any circumstances try or attempt to remove the spacebar by yourself, the 2012 macbook air was somehow designed so that no keys can be removed without the entire keyboard being replaced, I suggest you wait 2-3 days as I did and let it adjust on its own, but if the noise is not improving by any means I strongly suggest taking it in to the apple store of purchase before the 14 day period and getting a replacement.
anyhow I hope that my advice has helped you in anyway possible.
    Thanks

  • Macbook air needs space availiable

Im trying to download the new OS X Mavericks!
Its telling me that 'I could not complete my purchase because i need 4.93 GB of available space to download OS X Mavericks. Remove items fromyour startup disk to increase available space." How do I do that, would you please help me?

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • What games from the app store can i buy & play on 13" macbook air???

Hey i just got a new 6/2012 macbook air and love it.
just wanted to get some games for it.
and ive gone to the app store, but alot of the good games require certain graphics cards etc...
can anyone tell me what games i can download and play?? as its not very clear.. all it says on spec is intel 4000.
which i know is the new chip/cpu etc..
im keen on playing games like jedi outcast 2/knights of the old rep. sims. etc...

Don't play any games on your MacBook Air.  Use that for your seriuos endevors and just purchase a cheap Windows Samsung or Dell for $500 bucks and use that.  Or pick up that Google crap Adroid with a new OS every week for $150 bucks and use that.
But keep your MacBook Air free from any garbage.

  • Macbook Pro 13" 2012 OR Macbook Air 13" 2012

I am thinking of buying on of the two macbooks, but I am not sure which one to choose. The 2012 refresh made them really similar, specs. wise. The only significant difference I could find was that the Macbook Pro has a superdrive. I am kind of pushed towards the Macbook Air because of the higher screen resolution, but is it really better than the Macbook Pro's screen?(also it's size)
I would use the laptop at least two years and I will use it most for web browsing, video editing and some gaming.
Which one would you recommend to me and why?

if your major concern is portability get the air.  i own both a early 2011 macbook pro 13" and a 2012 11" macbook air.  i love my mba because its extremely lite and portable. it turns on and  is ready to use in 9 seconds.  very quick.  but once im on the next it might be half a seond to a second faster than my mbp when clicking on the same web page.  i have put them side by side and clicked on the same sites synchronized.  unless you are very impatient the speed is not that much different.  im assuming the new mbp is just as quick as the air if not faster. the SSD is faster when you are retrieving data, not while you are surfing the web.  with that said the pro comes with way more storage. people have commented so far just get an external hard drive.  well the point of the mba is portability.  carrying around an external hard drive kind of negates that luxury, and add in an external superdrive and now you are just cluttered with external peripherals.
yes the mbp is heavier but it feels way more solid.
with that said i want to clarify about the screens.  my early 2011 MBP has a much much better picture quality than my air.  colors, photos and videos are much more vibrant and crisp than on the mba.
unless your concern is portability  the mba is best used to compliment a mbp.
and if your still thinking about the 13" mba the only benefit is weight.  its the same width as the mbp so portability is really not that much of a difference.
    i hope this reply helps.

  • How can I permantely delete photos from iPhoto in order to free up space on my MacBook Air?

I am trying to delete photos (which I have backed up on an external drive) from my MacBook Air in order to free up storage space.  When I simply drag the photos into the trash and empty, I see no difference in the amount of storage.  I also read somewhere that they are also stored in iPhoto, so I have tried to delete them in small batches, only to return to the trash bin and find that the remaining (undeleted) ones are missing.  What's going on with this?
    I have a MacBook Air (late 2010)

Are you aware that iPhoto has its own trash area?  Find it on the left sidebar.  Go there and empty the iPhoto trash.

  • My start up disc is full i have a macbook air, i back everuthing up with time capsule and  have movies all my music libraries and photos onto that too so as i have free space, but my max still says my startup disc is full with "other"

my start up disc is full i have a macbook air, i back everuthing up with time capsule and  have movies all my music libraries and photos onto that too so as i have free space, but my max still says my startup disc is full with "other"

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
If you're using Time Machine to back up a portable Mac, some of the available space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of files you've recently deleted. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as "Backups." The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight as described here. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can also use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • How to free up space on Macbook air

How can I free up space on my Macbook Air? I can't seem to find any large files that I can delete

keep large media files OFF your Air unless you know you need them.
NO computer is a data storage device, especially for static files (large one most certain) just sitting there on the computer "collecting dust"
In the case of a Macbook Air or Macbook Pro Retina with ‘limited’ storage on the SSD, this distinction becomes more important in that in an ever rapidly increasing file-size world, you keep vital large media files, pics, video, PDF collections, music off your SSD and archived on external storage, for sake of the necessary room for your system to have free space to operate, store future applications and general workspace.  You should never be put in the position of considering “deleting things” on your macbook SSD in order to ‘make space’.
Professionals who create and import very large amounts of data have almost no change in the available space on their computers internal HD because they are constantly archiving data to arrays of external or networked HD.
Or in the case of the consumer this means you keep folders for large imported or created data and you ritually offload and archive this data for safekeeping, not only to safeguard the data in case your macbook has a HD crash, or gets stolen, but importantly in keeping the ‘breathing room’ open for your computer to operate, expand, create files, add applications, for your APPS to create temp files, and for general operation.

  • I have both an iMovie.app and iMovie 9.09.app on my Macbook Air.  Can I delete one of these apps without losing iMovie?  I need to free up space on my computer as I don't have any space left.

I have both an iMovie.app and iMovie 9.09.app on my Macbook Air.  Can I delete one of these apps without losing iMovie?  I need to free up space on my Macbook Air as I don't have any space left.  I've ordered an external drive in order to move photos and video there to free up space.  In the meantime I have to make some room for incoming emails and to open programs.  I've already deleted some documents.

You should find out which app you are using when you double click on a movie.
