Macbook Air general question

Ok, guys i have a question which sounds really ridiculous but as a new mac user, i cant stop thinking about it.
Recently, i just bought my macbook air 13 inch.
Yesterday, my wife was using it and she constantly used her fingers to drum around the area next to the trackpad and when she drums, she drums hard and i could hear her fingers hitting the aluminium body repeatedly.
She also used her thumb to hit against the smooth aluminium edge on the area below the trackpad repeadtedly.
My wife's really rough with my laptop and she did it for almost half the day. Is the Macbook Air's aluminim body able to withstand all these actions or will the trackpad and battery get damaged?
Sorry for the stupid question and thank tou  for all your feedbacks/answers

Unless you start denting the case, the internal components will be fine.  No hammers, please.
Ciao.
The only time I dented a MBP is when I dropped a three foot 2" x 4" piece of wood on it.  (very stupid of me).

  • Macbook Air resolution question - text not crisp

I have the 13" Macbook Air (mid-2011 model). I found the text to generally be too small on the default resolution so I changed it from 1440x900 to 1280x800. Everything is bigger but the text actually looks slightly blurry and not nearly as crisp or sharp as before. Is this expected? How can i make everything bigger without losing the crispness??

Yes indeed, I myself do not have one, but I got one for my wife, and she loves it. Last month I swapped out her hard drive for SSD and it is so much faster. What she loves is the ability to run Windows and Mac OS at the same time. She runs XP for her Lotus Notes for work, since she has so many programs that are windows only. But being able to run both at the same time and secondly, that the laptop is SO LIGHT, with incredible long battery life, gives her the ability to bringing it to work and go to meetings without dragging her down for weight. Nearly all the doctors at UC Davis Medical have MacBook Airs and iPads. They all are loving it.
Next time you see somoene with a MacBook Air, just ask them, how do you like it.
And the answer will always be the same. They love it.
Don't take my word for it, ask the person. There are plenty of MacBook Airs to ask the person.
Yes there is now compition and claiming that they are like a MacBook Air. The only problem is that they can only run Windows OS.
That is where the Mac shines, it runs both. And just as fast

  • Ipad or Macbook air more questions

I have an ipad and a iMac G5- intel core duo as host computer. We use airport extreme at home .
I am considering the purchase of a new ipad 2 or a Macbook air
My needs are mobility around the house as well as travel, place to up load photos during travel.
We are retired and travel a good bit.
    My questions are Here:
My questions for tomorrow night are:
    1. Will backup continue to be dependent on being tethered to the home computer? Will all software upgrades continue to be dependent to go through the host computer? If I have 2i pads where is the separate content (not photos) stored on the host computer.
    2. how would it work with cloud backup storage? any chance for time machine on the ipad?
    3. security issues unique to the ipad while using in public wifi areas?
    4. What is the possibility for the ipad to be scalable as technology changes. Are there functional differences in the apps for a Mac computer and the app store product for an ipad?
    5. Is there a disk utility on the ipad for usual housekeeping such as checking permissions and running a disk utility?

The iPad will probably continue to need a host computer. But, anything could happen. Each iPad is recognized as unique by iTunes. Each one would have separate syncing preferences and back up.
    2. how would it work with cloud backup storage? any chance for time machine on the ipad?
You'd need to see if the cloud storage option you're interested in has an iPad app. Dropbox, for instance does. However, cloud storage is not a subsititute for syncing your iPad to your computer. You can't really backup the iPad that way through something like Dropbox. Whether or not Apple ever enables something like Time Machine for the iPad, only Apple knows and they haven't said.
    3. security issues unique to the ipad while using in public wifi areas?
    None that I know of.
    4. What is the possibility for the ipad to be scalable as technology changes. Are there functional differences in the apps for a Mac computer and the app store product for an ipad?
A Mac and an iPad use completely different OSs. The apps available for both reflect the differences in OS and hardware. You're going to have to look at the features of the apps in which your interested.
    5. Is there a disk utility on the ipad for usual housekeeping such as checking permissions and running a disk utility?
    Not necessary.

  • MacBook Air Flashing Question ? Mark Folder - Troubleshooting Help!

I am trying to figure out a problem for a friend's Macbook Air. Not sure on the year it was manufactured, but it doesn't look to be but 2 or 3 years old. I have no clue what operating system she was running.
The problem she is having is the flashing question mark folder. I have tried doing a safe boot, but when I hold down shift after powering it off and back on nothing happens. I have tried doing a PRAM reset, it chimes 3 times then goes back to the flashing question mark folder.
The furthest I have gotten is holding down "alt/command" to see if the system preferences would pop up. But all I get is the option to select a wifi network. So that's something! Does anyone have an idea on how to solve this issue? I would like to have a bit more knowledge before I take it to the apple store. Has anyone ran into it asking for a wifi network instead of being able to boot it? Please advise. Thanks!

  • Installed new hdd in MacBook Air 2008, question folder and forbidden sign in screen, what to do?

    Hello
I installed new hard drive to my MacBook Air 2008 and when I try to install lion/snow leopard/ mavericks it won't show up the disk. I can't find the hard drive.
I don't now what to do. I tried everything. I spoke with a guy in macsupport here in Sweden and he said I have to buy snow leopard and install it from the original dvd in order for computer to format. My computer is old like I said its from 2008. I've never update it or upgrade. This is first time. It laid in storage for three years so I decide it to use it again but hdd was damaged so I had to change it, and now all I get is flashing question folder and forbidden sign, you know the sign for auto traffic.
Is it true that the only way to restore or to find the new hdd or to boot the question mark and forbidden sign marks by installing osx from its original dvd or buy snow leopard?
After I spoke with the guy from Mac support, I got little suspicious so I spoke to another one and he told me all I need to do is format hdd with the help of a sata hdd cable with help of another macbook and then I was good to go.
    What do u think?
Should I buy snow leopard or can I burn it from my sister computer?

I first would try Target Disk Mode to format and install an OSX on the new storage drive.

You will need a OSX source that is compatible with the MBA.  If you have the original, use that.

  • MacBook Air software question.

hi how do i know if when i **bought** the macbook air was it the OS X Lion or it wasn't and the people in the store updated it?

I'm a little confused. Did the people in the store show you the computer, demonstrate it for you, and sell you that one, rather than handing you a brand new one in a box?
A brand new MBA right out of the box would have the software put on it by the "factory" not by the store. The store--we assume--wouldn't open any boxes of new machines and update them. The store, however, might have a demonstration model that was Snow Leopard rather than Lion.

  • Macbook Air hinges question

just got the Decoded leather cover for my Macbook Air (which is just beautiful with no covers!)
it got a leather and elastic straps that won't let the lid close completely (few mm gaps)
asy idea if this would harm or loosen the lid hinges over time?

A: it wont let the lid close , I can tell that by looking without you telling me that that is so.
it can keep the unit from going into sleep because the magnetic reed switch isnt making contact with the magnet in the display to activate it.
if there is any hinge torque when close due to the gap from squeezing it while closed at the opening point, there could be an issue, but that requires firsthand examination, which I cannot see.

  • Macbook air flashing question mark

any solutions for flashing question mark on start up?

There are four general causes of this issue:
    1. The computer's PRAM no longer contains a valid startup disk setting when there aren't any problems with the disk itself. This can be checked for by pressing the Option key and seeing if the drive appears.
    2. The internal drive's directory structure has become damaged. This requires usage of an alternate bootable system to perform the repair.
    3. Critical system files have been deleted. This requires usage of an alternate bootable system to reinstall them.
    4. The internal drive has died or become unplugged. This is the most likely case if the computer took a sharp impact or there are unusual sounds coming from its location.

  • Macbook air folder question mark

I have a folder with a question mark in the middle. I tried holding Command + R but in return i get a big lock asking for my password. I don't remember what password i had. How can i fix it?

You have a failed SSD. If it is a 2012 model Apple has a recall on them for this problem.
In any event you need to take the system to an Apple store to be checked out.

  • General question about iTunes Match and multiple libraries

    Hello to everyone,
I have a general question about the iTunes Match service, which is available since yesterday in my country (Italy). Currently my library situation is the following:
Computer A (desktop, Windows 7): "big" iTunes library (about 20 GB), at the moment not associated with my Apple ID
Computer B (MacBook Air 2011): "small" iTunes library (about 5 GB), associated with my Apple ID
At the moment, both my iOS devices (iPhone 4 and iPad 2) are synchronized with the smaller library on the MacBook Air.
Question is as follows: should I subscribe to iTunes Match, would it be possible to upload the "big" library (provided I associate it with my Apple ID) to iCloud while keeping my devices synchronized with the "small" one?
Ideally, at the end of the day, the situation should be the following: both iOS devices with music from the small library + possibility of downloading songs from iCloud (coming from the big one). Is this possible?
Maybe the question sounds stupid, but I want to be sure about this before paying for the service.
    Thanks a lot.

Yes, you could also associate your larger library with iTunes match if you associated your Apple ID with it. However any purchases in the library made from another Apple ID will not be matched with iTunes much.
If both libraries are part of iTunes match, then all your devices will see all of the content from both libraries, which content you choose to have on those devices and which you have accessible via iTunes match is entirely up to you.

  • How can I install Windows 7 on my Macbook air

I recent purchased a Macbook air mid-2011 and I want to install a copy of Windows 7 by Boot Camp. But I did not know why I cannot reboot the Windows after the distribution completed (I had a Sumsung mobile DVD-ROM which works well when I use it to install apps). With my old Macbook 2010, of course, which had a DVD-ROM inside, it will automatically reboot into Windows installation . According to the Boot Camp, the 1st step is to make a ISO-image of Windows 7. However, I did not know how to do it. Please help me.
    Thanks!

As this is not a Macbook Air specific question, and is entirely a Bootcamp usage query, the best place to post this is in the BootCamp forum of this community.
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp
i only post this because I know that you are likely to get a much faster array of repsonses that will resolve all your questions if you post in the forum most suitable.

  • Macbook Air difference between two models?

My lovely other half has offered to buy me a Macbook Air - my question is (being an ignoramus) what is the difference between the model having a 80GB 4200-rpm PATA hard drive and the much more expensive model with 64GB solid-state drive.
can anyone explain in simple terms?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I hope simple enough ;-):
    a) 80 GB 4200 rpm PATA model: This model uses a regular hard disk drive to store long-term data. This means, there are a couple of thin glass disks spinning at 4200 rpm. These glass disks hold a thin metal layer that is magnetized in either one or the other way. That way the computer can store data like your files or the operating systems files for long-term retrieval. The disk is rewriteable.
    b) Same usage principle for the SSD model. The difference is, no moving parts, no glass disks, but small "ic-chips" storing the data just like the memory (RAM) of your computer does use. The difference to the RAM is that the data is not forgotten on power down, like with the glass disks.
The pro's of b) are less heat, no moving parts, faster access. The con's limited size (only 64 GB) and more expensive. If I would be you, I would take the HD version and ask for an external hard disk or even a TimeCapsule (for wireless Time Machine backups).
