Macbook Air Haswell-doesn't wake up

As mentioned in the title, literally, my Macbook Air doesn't wake up occasionally.
Sometimes (3 or 4 times out of 3-50) when i close the lid of my notebook and open, nothing appears but  the black screen appears and only the light of the keyboard glows. No input(including trackpad and the keyboard) helps get out of the black screen and the only thing i should do is to turn the power of and turn it on again.
It seems that some users using Macbook Air Haswell and some Macbook Pro models.  And some explains it happens because of chrome browser. I purchased this notebook about a week ago and I can get a new one by contacting Apple Store. Should I get a new one and see if it happens? or should i just restore my notebook and see if it happens again? It's quite confusing and frustrating.

As Linc says, use the phone support, but you may find that Apple tell you a fix is in the pipeline.
There appears to be a glitch with current MBA's where, if it goes to sleep and you try to wake it immediately, it can freeze (search this forum for MBA won't wake from sleep, MBA crash to black screen and similar for loads of info - for example this massive thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5118135?start=0&tstart=0). Your description of what happens matches this picture exactly. Until Apple come up with a fix, you can either switch off sleep or resist the temptation to wake the MBA too quickly after it goes into sleep mode.
Some of us (including me) found this unsatisfactory - particularly as Apple are taking a lot longer to find a solution than they originally claimed - and got a refund. In my case I put the money towards a retina MBP.
As for the Chrome issue, I do not and have never used Chrome but was plagued by the problem nevertheless.
By all means get a replacement using the 14 day exchange, but you may well find that the new MBA does the same (this is what I did within the first 14 days and the replacement was no different).  If you decide the problem is unacceptable, you could consider a refund - then the choice is yours whether to wait, jump ship to a PC or get a different Mac.

  • My MacBook Pro sometimes doesn't wake up from sleep mode

Dear users, my MacBook Pro (model 5,1 - 15" Late 2008) is behaving oddly since I upgraded to OSX Lion. Sometimes, after going into sleep mode, it doesn't wake up. When I hit a key (space or enter), I see the login screen, but it's not possible to type my keyword. The only thing active is "the spinning beach ball of death", so I have to manually shut down my Mac and start over. This problem (and also other problems) did not happen in Snow Leopard. The only thing that changed in my Mac is the OS; other programs remain the same. I already tried reseting PRAM and SMC, and fixing disk errors. Thanks for your attention.

try running a hardware test and see if you get an error code: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mh35727.html

  • New Macbook Air Haswell x64 unsupported

    Hi,
I've the new Macbook Air with Intel Haswell. I installed WIndows 8 and I tried to install the Boot Camp drivers.
When i try to do it, a message appear with "x64 unsupported version" written. I have boot camp 5.0.xxxx utility version.
I'd like to skip the problem forcing the installation as super user, but i know the new Air has some new hardware (like the WiFi adapter) so i think it won't work.
Do i have to wait the new version on Boot Camp?
    Thank you.
    Stefano

If the past is any predictor then there is a waiting (never short) period before the update appears. My guess would be when Mac OS X 10.9 is released.

  • Macbook Air 2011 won't wake up after sleep

My Macbook Air 13" 2011 won't wake up after sleep.  I've taken it to apple genies bar, but they offered to replace my logical board!
I bought the Macbook Air in last August.  Why cannot they replace a new laptop???

One thing you want to do is "Repair Permissions" in Disk Utility before you upgrade to a new revision, and afterward do the same thing.
On occasion files will become inaccessible to the logged-in user and cause certain components of the OS from acting cooperatively. This can most often happen during/after an update. Also, by resetting permissions before an update, it is to ensure that the update process itself can accomplish all tasks.
You may also want to consider applying/re-applying the downloaded 10.7.3 "Combo Update" from the Apple.com/downloads/ section. After resetting permissions, of course.

  • Macbook Air 13" doesn't go on standby

Hi, I just purchased Macbook Air 13" a month ago in May 2014. Whenever I put it to sleep and close the lid, it doesn't go on  standby and BATTERY DEPLETES QUICKLY within 1 day. This has been very annoying and did not happen with my previous Macbook. Kindly appreciate if anyone can help me with this issue.
Note: I've already activated the option of "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" in Energy Saving Preferences.

  • New Macbook air screen won't wake up after going to sleep - what's this?

When watching a movie on Netflix, for example, since I'm not touching the keyboard, the computer goes to sleep - sort of.  The screen fades briefly and if I fail to notice quickly enough to touch a key, the screen goes black.  The sound continues, however, and the keyboard is lit.  I can't wake the screen back up.  I have to restart it.
I've had the computer for less than a week.
What's going on - is my new MacBook Air defective or is there something I can do to stop this annoying glitch from occurring?

There is no need to diagnose such an issue, you just bought it and paid for service and 14 day exchange.
Return it for another unit, others here will concur on that fact.

  • MacBook Air Safari doesn't work after ML update

After I updated my MacBook Air 2012 to Mountain Lion yesterday, Safari stopped working. It says it's connected but Safari won't open any page.
This is the third time it happens and I'm getting sick of it (SL, Lion OS and now ML)
I had to reset my iMac (PRAM) to get it back working again, but is there another suggestion?
    Thanks in advance.

Hey I just foud this on this forum. It's worth a try :-)
Also, are you able to ping the network. Go to Terminal and type the following:ping google.com
you should get something like this:
    Arnolds-MacBook-Air:~ arnieaz$ ping google.com

Re: WiFi Issues With MacBook Air
Jul 27, 2012 11:26 AM (in response to curvetr)
I had similar issues to the ones that seem to be plaguing people in this thread. However, I found a solution that worked for me, and will hopefully help you and some others!
System prefs > Network > Cog/gear button on the bottom left (sorry dont now what it's called) > Set service order.
If you find that the service order puts bluetooth ahead of Wifi, try switching Wifi up to the top spot. It worked for me. Let me know how it goes, hopefully it works!
    Best of luck, Chris

  • When I connect my charger to my MacBook Air, it doesn't always charge..., When I connect my charger to my MacBook Air, it doesn't always charge...

While it isn't every time, there are many times that connecting the MagSafe adapter to my MacBook Air 13(late 2010) will not start it charging. There isn't always a green followed by an amber charging light. Sometimes, it is magnetically connected with no charging happening at all. No lights indicating anything.
A jostling of the connector usually gets things going. Could this have something to do with metal particles in the MagSafe port of the MBA?

SYMPTOPMS: Intermittent charging, magsafe light not lighting. Wiggling the magsafe adapter while connected to the laptop can make the light turn back and even make it turn off again.
APPLES SOLUTION FOR MY LAPTOP: I purchases a 2011 Macbook Air 13" and I was having the same issues. After taking the laptop to Apple they determined it's not the charger but the magsafe connector inside the laptop that was coming loose and affecting the charging capabilities. Check to see if you can move the magsafe connecter that's on your computer. IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO MOVE. The genius at Apple showed me how mine was moving around easily. If yours moves around, the part needs to be replaced or the screw inside the laptop that holds the magsafe connecter needs to be tighted. In my case, they replaced my entire laptop although the replacement is now showing the same symptoms again after 1 month of very careful use.
    Good Luck!

  • Set up iCloud on my Macbook Air, but doesn't work on my iphone

After setting up iCloud on my laptop, I went to my iphone and am getting a message that says "User name or password is incorrect." My only option is to hit "OK", but the message just stays there. Don't have access to my Settings anymore, and there appears to be no way to change the password or straighten this out. Stuck.

You must be correct, but the problem is, I can't even get into my Settings. When I hit that button, a pop-up appears that says "iCloud User name or password is incorrect." Even when I hit OK, it remains. Doesn't go away until I go back to viewing all icons.

  • Macbook Air 2011 doesn't start up

I've updated OS X to 10.9. So, macbook was hung and I turned it off by holding power button for 5 sec. After that I can't start my macbook, there is no any reaction after pressing power button, I tried to hold button for 10 sec and reset SMC.
What should I do? Is this software bug (OX S 10.9)?

  • Macbook air sometimes won't wake up

Ever since I bought it, my laptop wont wake up from sleep mode every now and then. I put it in to apple and they replaced..something? The motherboard possibly, but it happened again pretty much straight away. Not sure what to do, seems a bit strange for me to have to keep taking it in when this is how it was sold to me. Any ideas what theyll do?

Take the computer to Apple again.

  • MacBook Air suddenly doesn't recognize my keychain passwords. Now iCloud, Safari and anything associated (including Systems Preferences) won't work.  Plz help - any ideas?

The only thing I can think that I've done differently is that I'd downloaded a scanner driver from Canon.  Everything worked fine for days after that.  It wasn't until I shut down the computer and restarted it that I keep getting these prompts to enter keychain passwords and it rejects the only passwords I've ever used.  No idea what to do.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  :-)

  • Macbook Air 2013 Doesn't recognise Toshiba Ext. Hard drive... Tips?

    Hi all,
It's been a while since I last posted, but this one's got me tearing my hair out.
My MBA 2013 doesnt seem to acknowledge the existence of my external hard drive, which I'd quite like to load some home movies onto. I plug it in, and it lights up, as usual... But the mac doesnt give me any option to open it. I've checked through Disk Utility, and it doesnt show up there either...
    Any ideas?
Thanks in advance, guys and gals,
    Imran

Confirm you've looked for it in Disk Utility and via Go Computer in the Finder?
If so, and it is not appearing, is it USB powered? It might not be getting enough power through the USB port.

  • MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2011) doesn't wake the thunderbolt display after sleep

for some reason the display when connected to clamshell macbook pro 17" doesn't wake up when i go to wake up the display from sleep mode.
    what is going on?

The other day I got the blue screen, the fan going on high, and then when I disconnect my thunderbolt connection from my macbook pro - i get a shutdown.
Today I got flickering followed by the fan on high and then again I disconneced my thunderbolt cable and after a minute or two a shudown.
This never happened before.  Actually I was suprised to hear about a firmware update for flickering since that's never happened to me but since updating I now get the flicker.
Any ideas??  Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is my work labtop.

  • Logic   Macbook air   Duet 2 ?

I am a bassist who wants to start recording music. I was thinking of doing it with a macbook air haswell i5 4go, logic pro x and the duet 2 from apogee digital. What do you think about this set up? How far could I go with this ? Thanks for your answers

Personally, I would not purchase an Air for any semi pro or pro Audio work. The benefits of the Air over a Macbook Pro are that it is lighter and smaller with longer battery life.... and therefore more portable but as the host for a DAW it is not ideally suited at all. Its lack of real internal and external expansion capabilities are for me, a serious limitation... and for roughly the same price, you will get a faster, more capable Macbook Pro though one that is not as light or portable (though the latter is somewhat debatable!)
I have a top of the range 2012 Air myself.. and I have found it just doesn't cut it as a host for a DAW, for the reasons I gave above about lack of internal and external expandability, given the cost and what I could have bought in terms of a MBP for roughly the same price. The Air is a great little portable netbook for email and web access etc.. on the road... but for running a DAW? No...
LPX and a Duet 2 are okay choices... though again, personally I would choose a Motu interface over a Duet 2 but thats just my personal preference having used several different Motu's over the last several years without any issues of note... and having found their driver support to be excellent compared to a lot of other company's offerings out there.
