MacBook Air Kensington Lock?

I use my MacBook Air in Hotels and Coffee Shops etc. whilst travelling - has anybody found a 'Kensington Lock' or any otherr device that can be used in the absence of a 'Kensington Slot' on this Model?

There have been several posts regarding this.  Use the SEARCH function to locate.

What is the Pin Code for unlock for Macbook Air System Lock ?

It usually means that the  owner of the device sent a directive through icloud(find my mac), to lock the device because it has been stolen.
The only means to unlock the device is to have Apple (Apple Store) unlock it for the owner. If you are the owner, be prepared to show proof of legitimate ownership. It is likely that Apple will want to contact the registered owner to make sure that the device has been legitmately transferred.
I'm really thinking you may have bought stolen property. Ask the seller why it is locked, and if the device is registered to him/her, to release the registration on Apple's website. Only then, will you be able to re-register the device in YOUR name.

  • MacBook Air - cable lock port?

Hi all - quick question - I just ordered MacBook Air and one thing that completely slipped my mind is if it has a place to attach a cable lock?  I don't think I'd really need to lock it 99% of the time, but I'd just like to know if its an option should I ever need to.

Sorry for delayed response - yes, I received the computer and see that it has no place to install a Kensington type of lock.  Its understandable that there's no connector for the lock since the computer itself is so small. Will just have to be extra careful with it then.

  • Macbook Air is locked. What command should I use to reboot? Why is this happening? Pics included

I recently got a MacBook Air from someone who owed me money. The MacBook Air is completely locked and Im not sure how to bypass the secured login screen or which code to use that will boot in an alternative mode. I've tried Command + R, Command + S, Option and none of these three worked. When I press Command + R, I get the following lock screen (the picture is just upside down, not sure why.)
I own a macbook pro and have reset my password using Command+R. Not sure if MacBook Airs need a different command. When I press Command+S I get a loading screen, then a screen that tells me "Your computer is disabled. Try Again in 60 minutes"
    Why is this happening?
What command can I press to bypass this?
Could I put a clean OS on a USB drive and install it that way to have a clean install? If so, how do I boot it, if I can only get to these screens?
Now that my computer is disabled and I have to wait 60 minutes, should I perform the correct command once the time is expired or can I use it immediately, while the disabled time is still active?
    Please help!!!!
Also, not sure which OS its running since I can't get pass this to fully inspect the Macbook Air.

That is an EFI Firmware Password.
There are only two ways around it: bring it and some money to Apple, who will certainly want proof of ownership, or obtain the password from its previous owner.
A third method that I do not recommend is to pay any number of sketchy third party outfits that allege a means of removing the password. There are several reasons I do not recommend it, among them: I have no personal experience with them, I have no idea if they will be successful, and you may have no recourse if they damage the Mac and render it permanently broken. Apple will certainly refuse service if anyone other than Apple or an authorized Apple repair facility tampers with it.

  • My MacBook Air randomly locks up

    Hello.
Last Friday I was working on my MacBook Air (13', mid-2011, OS X Mavericks) as usual when suddenly right in the middle of something my Mac just locked up. It completely froze – I was not even able to move my cursor. For a minute I tried to press different buttons, but nothing helped, so I ended up hard resetting my Mac and continued to work, thinking that it was a random error and it would never happen again.
However, on Saturday my Mac froze in exactly the same way when I war reading my Facebook feed. Then, a few hours later, it froze right in the middle of web surfing. Today, it froze on the desktop, and just a couple of minutes ago it completely locked up when I was editing a Pages file.
Yesterday I ran Disk Diag and it said I had a few errors that I needed to fix in a safe mode. I did a restart with Command+R, ran Disk Diag again and after a few minutes of some work the utility said it fixed all problems and my disk was okay. However, as my Mac keeps locking up, it seems that this didn't solve the issue.
Is there any way to see what's going on exactly when my Mac locks up? Are there any log files or other means of checking what's exactly going wrong?
I suspect there might be a hardware problem (wither SSD failing or memory leaks), but it's better to be sure before I make any conclusions. I was planning to do a full restore of my Mac, but changed my mind for now – if there is indeed a way to make sure this is a hardware failure, not software, I don't see the point in reinstalling everything.
I will appreciate any help. Thanks!

Anti virus software installed? Any apps such as MacKeeper or other third party cleaning utilities?
Make sure there's enough free storage space.
Control click the MacintoshHD icon on your desktop or open the Finder, right or control click startup disk in the Sidebar on the left then click Get Info.
You'll see Available and Capacity. Make sure there's at least 15% available disk space.

That kernel panic indicates you are running Lion, not Mountain Lion. If you think you installed Mountain Lion, it might not have completed correctly and is what is causing the kernel panics. You should try to reinstall Mountain Lion from the Recovery HD.
    If that still fails,
You don't have any third party kernel extensions, so it would likely be a hardware problem.
There have been a few graphics card related issues, but I think that is with the NVidia cards.
Do you have anything connected to the Air (hard drive, usb hub, etc) when you get the kernel panics?
Do you have an Apple Store with a Genius bar nearby? Or, contact AppleCare and report the issue.

  • Help please...MacBook Air is locked up.

I cannot get close anything...restarting doesn't help.  There is a phone number it wants me to call but its scam.  There is also several warnings... I am unable to click off or close them...

There are several ways to recover.
    1. Some of those scam pages can be dismissed very easily. Press the key combination command-W to close the tab or window. A huge box will pop up. Press the return key and both the box and the page will close. If that doesn't happen, continue.
    2. Press and hold command-W. You may hear repeating alert sounds. While holding the keys, click the OK button in the popup. A different popup may appear, which you can cancel out of as usual.
    3. From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and uncheck the box marked Enable JavaScript. Leave the preferences dialog open.
Close the malicious window or tab.
Re-enable JavaScript and close the preferences dialog.
    4. If the Preferences menu item is grayed out, quit Safari. Force quit if necessary. Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. None of the windows and tabs will reopen.
After closing the malicious page, from the menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
to get rid of any cookies or other data left by the server. Open your Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize.

  • Locked up MacBook air

My MacBook air is locked and showing the coloured ball symbol. I have shut it down using car/alt/cud and start button, several times, when switched back on, although all applications are closed, it s fine for about 1 minute then it locked up again.

Can you boot to the Recovery HD?
    Boot Using Command+R keys:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
"COMMAND" and the "R" keys together.
      3. Release the keys when the Utilities Menu appears.
If so, then try repairing the drive:
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
If the drive is full and you cannot boot from it normally, then the disk directory is corrupted and cannot be repaired. You will have to erase the drive then reinstall OS X. There is no way to recovery your data if it isn't already backed up.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should install the version of OS X that you had installed.

  • Macbook air lock

has anyone used the silicon cover and lock?, Macbook air lock: has anyone used the silicon cover and lock?
    http://www.maclocks.com/index.php/macbook-air-lock.html

I was trying to figure out how the macbracket actually worked, and this youtube video explains it better.  However it does seem fiddly and would take a bit of practice to get used to it.
An alternative solution which is simpler but not as aesthetically pleasing is this macbook air combination lock.
Then of course there are the USB audio alarms, but they won't physically stop someone from running away with your precious MBA.
Would be interested to know if anyone used any of these products.

  • Locking down Macbook Air

Just wondering how other owners of the Macbook Air are stopping people from walking off with their laptop?
since the thing has not got a way to use a laptop lock what creative ways have people come up with?
The people in my local applestore were rather useless when I asked them for a suggestion to stop the $3000 laptop being stolen..
Wondering how long it will be before Apple release a new lower case with the ability to at least lock it to a desk to stop it walking off - in the mean time I am going to have to continue to use my PC when I am on the road.

Extract from my MBA review here: http://www.notebooks.com/2008/05/29/macbook-air-user-review/
"The MacBook Air lacks one security feature, which many notebooks and also other Apple notebooks have: a slot for a Kensington lock to tether the notebook to another object such as a table. Therefore the Macbook Air should be with you, if you fear the possibility of someone walking away with it, while it is unattended."
Since it is small and thin, I put the MBA into a lockable drawer in my desk at work.
"I’ve made it difficult for people to access my data by enabling a strong password to protect access to my user account, encrypting my user data with FileVault, choosing a secure screensaver and by installing Apple’s Open Firmware, which will require the user to enter a password in order to install Mac OS on the hard drive. I also use third party software from Orbicule to increase my chances of recovering my laptop, or at least to make the MacBook Air hard to use for a thief."

  • Locking device for macbook air 13"

My daughter is off to college and I am trying to find a lock for her new macbook air.  It does not have a built in slot for the Kensington locks like the other macbook pro's have.  Any thoughts? I know that you can use find my iphone for the computer and remotely lock and wipe it clean.  However, I am looking for something that she can use in the dorm to attach her Air to her desk to keep her Air safe while she is not in the room so it is not stolen to begin with.  This is a definite design flaw, especially since Apple includes a locking port for their other laptops.

    check macbracket.com

  • Does the MacBook Air have a slot for a lock?

My current MacBook has a slot in which I can insert a lock to protect the computer in a public location (a library, for example).
Does the MacBook Air have the same slot?
    Thanks.

Unfortunately the MBA is too thin for the Kensington lock. I've seen a couple solutions but they aren't inexpensive. I've seen this one and some of these. I recommend Prey for after the fact.

  • Help, I have locked myself out of my macbook air and there seems to be no way back on.

I have literally just got my first mac computer today (a macbook air) having previously been a PC user. Needless to say, I am not familiar with how to use them at all and am pulling my hair out here trying to work out why I have been locked out after just 5 minutes of using it.
I guess there must have been a setting on it to automatically log me out after a certain amount of time as I left my computer for a while before returning and came back to a login screen. It is now prompting me for a password to get back into my mac - even though I didn't even set one! When I click the ? button, it says i should go to appleid.apple.com to reset it from another device, but I have tried this and all it allows me to do is reset my Appleid - not my computer password. (By the way, have also tried typing in appleid password with no luck.)
Has anyone got any tips? I have tried running multiple internet searches across the forums and have found nothing even remotely close to helping me. It seems so ridiculous for something so simple - especially as i never even set a password!!!
Any help much appreciated - I am on the verge of throwing this machine across the room and I've only just got it.
