Macbook air multiple monitors

Can you run multiple cinema displays on a Macbook Air 2011 version?

According to this apple article you can have one thunderbolt display connected to a MBA.
Other alternatives that may work (i have no idea) for more than one external monitor are (assuming you can connect them to mini-displayport/thunderbolt):
Matrox DualHead2Go
USB to DVI/HDMI/VGA Adapter (there are other alternative besides this one device for USB)

  • Mid 2013 Macbook Air External Monitor Issues

I am running on 10.8.4 and am using a fully upgraded 2013 macbook air. i7, 8gb of ram, 512 ssd. Recently, I have been having issues connecting my computer to external displays. I have reset the PRAM, and the SMC multiple time with no luck. I have also deleted the windowserver plist files and that did not seem to do anything as well. The issue is as follows: when I plug in my laptop through the thunderbold port to the hdmi on my tv, the screen on my laptop goes blue, as normal, but then nothing shows up on my tv. I have used the same cable with my roomates macbook and it works just fine, on multiple tv's. Mine is not able to connect to any of those tv's. When looking at the display settings in system preferences, I do not see that it ahs detected any external displays. I am not sure what to do at this point.

I think I have fixed it somehow. I reset the PRAM while the tv was plugged in and it worked, but it seems that something may be wrong with my video card, because there was a bunch of fuzziness and weird colors on my computer's monitor for a few seconds before everything went to normal

  • One Macbook Air, multiple shares displaying in Finder?

Since installing Yosemite the Shared area of the Finder sidebar is now showing not only my Airport Extreme USB HD, but is also displaying my Macbook Air (named GSB). Okay, whatever. But it's also racking up multiples over time so I have GSB (2), GSB (3), and so forth.
I don't really care, but it's messing with my AppleTV and ROKU finding my shared movies and playing them. I have to keep removing the share from the players and re-adding it. Any advice? I know NOTHING of networking really.

    Doing it again today:

  • MacBook Air 2013 Monitor slow response bug

Hello, I have very big trouble with my Macbook Air Display.
The monitor has a big response.
During my work, my eyes are very tired.
Bug very well seen in the video.

Given that you purchased it only recently, if you believe this is a hardware fault contact AppleCare and have them fix it. What you describe is not a commonly known problem.
It's your Mac; if you want to modify it with third party junk like TotalFinder the consequences are also yours.

  • 2011 Macbook Air - Multiple logic board failures - possible causes?

I have a 2011 i7 macbook air - 7 months old.  About a month ago I went to use the computer after allowing it to sleep and it was totally dead.  Apple authorized repair center said the logic board failed and needed to be replaced.  Fast forward a month and I finally get the machine back.  It works fine for 6 hours, I put it to sleep, and soon as the screen went out, I hear a pop, fizzle, then the machine is dead again.  The authorized repair center wants to replace the logic board again, which should get me up and running, but its not likley that that is the root CAUSE of the problem here, since it happened twice now.  I suggested to them that perhaps the power adaptor, battery, or some other component is the issue and they don't think so.  I'm located overseas, and every repair attempt takes 1 month b/c of parts (total joke if you're listening apple!!).  My biggest concern is that they replace the logic board again, I'm out of commission for 2 months now, and it just fails again.  Does anyone have any suggestions on the possible causes of this problem?
As FYI - I'm using the same power outlet and power strip with another laptop and haven't had any similar issues.  Thanks for the help!

I have logic board problems too. I have had a late 2010 mac book air for 2 and half years. Its been a great machine in general - although it did go back within the warranty period for the track pad
Now it has logic board failure - symptons are the sound going and  the battery is dead and it is unable to charge which means every time you put the power lead on the computer thinks it is starting from scratche.
I have been quoted over £400 for the repair!  Like the above post I do not believe that this part should fail - and if it does then it is a major design problem and Apple should be doing something for us. I just dont know where to start.
I have used macs for 14 years and owned eight along the way. Most have them have lasted many years with full functionality  the record was my G3 imac which was still working after 13 years.
I really cant believe the situation I am in and rather think I have bought my last mac!

  • What is a good macbook air compatible monitor around 250$?

Look at the Dell Ultra Sharp models or ones from LG and Samsung.

  • Trouble with Macbook Air to VGA display using miniplug.

I purchased a plug that fits into the digital output and has a VGA female plug on the other end.  I have connected this with a VGA cable to a monitor.
I can see about half of the desktop (the default celestial stars picture) but no desktop Icons that display on my computer.  Is there a special setting to allow the Macbook Air to output to a VGA monitor?
    Thank you.

In the display settings you'll have to choose which monitor you want to be the primary one, the default is your MacBook Air's monitor is the default, so all the icons are visible on there and on your external monitor you can only see background or whatever windows you place there.
System Prefernces > Displays > Arangements and drag that little white rectangle on top of one of the screens to whichever monitor you want to be the "main" monitor.
    Did this help?

  • Multiple Monitor Capability

Can anybody advise if the MacBook allows multiple monitor capability and if so what adaptors I would need. I wish to connect my MacBook to 2 other screens.
    Many Thanks

Yes - but you'd need additional hardware - one of the Matrox Graphics eXpansion Modules.

  • How do I tell if my new macbook air is 64 bit or 32 bit

I have a new macbook air 13" monitor. I need to know how to figure out if it is a 64 bit or 32 bit. I have Yosemite. 10.10 (I think)

It's 64-bit. All the current Macs are 64-bit and have been since 2006. Yosemite is a fully 64-bit OS.

  • Turbo boost on MacBook Air.

Do the MacBook Airs have TURBO BOOST? Or only the MacBook Pros?

According to intel's specifications for the processors Apple uses, the MBA does indeed have turbo-boost.
While Apple does not mention "Turbo-Boost", by name, they do indicate in the specifications that processor speeds are monitored and adjusted. "MacBook Air continuously monitors system thermal and power conditions, and may adjust processor speed as needed to maintain optimal system operation." In other words, it raises processor speed when thermal conditions and power needs/availability permit.
Anandtech's review of the MBA also indicates that Turbo-Boost is indeed evident by testing.

  • TV Apple TV MacBook Air:How to connect my computer's monitor and TV as multiple monitors (NOT mirroring)

I have an insignia TV, an apple TV I just bought less than a month ago, and a Macbook Air (mountain Lion) and a MacBook pro (mountain lion).
I am able to connectboth of my computers with the TV to mirror my screen/monitor, but I have not been able to figure out how to use the apple TV to use my TV as a second monitor, like I was able to do with my HDMI cable.
when I bought the Apple TV the person who I talked to at the store told me I would be able to do it, but I havent been able to do it through system preferences and the options for display only show as mirroring through Airplay. I dislike mirroring because while I play something on my computer (or somebody else does) I'd like to still be able to use my computer for browsing or doing homework.
Please help me find a way in which I can make my TV as a second monitor tu my computer without having to have an HDMI cord across the room. I have a puppy and I have had problems with that. That is actually the reason why I considered buying the Apple TV device.
NOTE: In case you know a way to connect my TV to my Macs I have a time capsule and my TV has a DVI, two HDMI, and a USB ports.
    thank you!

  • Hook up 2 external monitors to Macbook Air

I have 2x dell monitors sitting around (different models and resolutions). I know that with cinema displays you can now daisy chain them together to get multiple screens. Is there any way that i can close my macbook air's lid and hook it up to both of my dell displays and have them in an extended view (non-mirrored)?

The USB video solutions are fine for basic/office apps, but often are limited in their support for advanced graphics like OpenGL. If you need more resolution, power, or speed than the basic USB video solution and you are not already using the ExpressCard slot in the side of your MacBook Pro, look into an ExpressCard video card.

  • External Monitors w. MacBook Air 2010

I bought my new MacBook Air to use often with external monitors up to my 30 inch Dell.
Problem is: The combination does not return the maximum 2560x1600 pixel resolution of the monitor.
I was assured by multiple people at the Apple Store that all Mac products have top end graphics cards and that any Mac would power the large external monitors. My Air is the 2gb model with 256k ram. I have tried two different Mac accessory adaptors for my SVGA monitor.
    Any solutions??

The other quoted specs are for the internal display. To get your desired resolution, you'll need the dual-dvi adapter that was already mentioned.
Your resolution is supported per the apple macbook air spec page: "Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on an external display, both at millions of colors"

  • What MacBooks can support multiple monitors?

I am shopping for a MacBook but I love having multiple monitors (preferably two, in addition to the screen attached to the laptop). Can older MacBook Pros (such as 2013) support two additional monitors? What about MacBook Airs (I am assuming not because it does not have HDMI)? Or is it just the latest MacBook Pro model (Retina)? To be clear, I am interested in extended displays, not merely mirroring displays.

I would recommend you a MBPR with about 8GB of RAM to securely avoid lag and a nice graphic card, perhaps the GeForce?
