Macbook air needs space availiable

Im trying to download the new OS X Mavericks!
Its telling me that 'I could not complete my purchase because i need 4.93 GB of available space to download OS X Mavericks. Remove items fromyour startup disk to increase available space." How do I do that, would you please help me?

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
  1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
  2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
  3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
  4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
  5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
  6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • Does my Macbook Air need a power converter in the UK?

I am traveling to the UK soon - will I need a power converter for my MacBook Air, iPad and iPhone?
    thanks

Input voltage for iPad and iPhone is same. 100 -240 Volts.
You will need plug adapters for those power adapters.
    No converters are necessary.

  • Macbook Air Squeaky Space bar

Hi I was wondering what some of the underlying causes of a squeaky space bar are, as recently I have noticed a faint squeak when the space bar is pressed in the center, but if it is pressed to the far right bottom corner it does not, this is recently my 4th replacement and I cannot really be all that bothered returning this one if the causes of the problem is miniscule.
As I am not a computor technician, or someone who has a vast knowladge of the macbook air 13inch base model, I throw this question to anyone who is willing to help give me more answers, and support in regards to my dilemma.
Reason for returning my other macbook air products, was A: They where damaged out of the box, or they had internal structural issues, and yes they where purchased from the apple store, and they might have had a bad batch of products, so I dont really blame anyone, as apple replaced all of the products that where damaged, and have outstanding customer service.
    Thanks

I just delt with it, as the problem was minor, and wasnt noticeable only when in areas of utter silence, but after acouple more days the (spacebar) seemed to adujst and the noise was less, and become fainter till it was no more, but before I decided to just ignore it and let it work itself out I did some research of course
And my research lead to the conclusion that apple have had problems with the macbook air 11-13 inch models reason for this was the spacebar was not responsive in some cases so apple adjusted the space bar and tried to fix the problem, the problem was (the spacebar) was pressed to the point of no response during production, where it was less or not responsive in some cases, and there for the adjustment has thus caused another issue altogether where the space bar has been adjusted but has to much response in the mechanism causing the sound that we are all hearing if only for a short while.
My adivce is this jose, do not under any circumstances try or attempt to remove the spacebar by yourself, the 2012 macbook air was somehow designed so that no keys can be removed without the entire keyboard being replaced, I suggest you wait 2-3 days as I did and let it adjust on its own, but if the noise is not improving by any means I strongly suggest taking it in to the apple store of purchase before the 14 day period and getting a replacement.
anyhow I hope that my advice has helped you in anyway possible.
    Thanks

  • Macbook air free space to high

My MacBook Air shows 549GB free Space... (I only have 512GB... the half of it is used!).

I just installed OS X again. Now all is o.k.! Not the fastest solution, but it works.

  • Does the Macbook Air need to have a fan under it to prolong its life?

I just bought a Macbook Air and would like to know if an external fan is necessary as it was for my Macbook. Even with the fan the Macbook would get really hot. I noticed that the Macbook Air gets warm also, but with everything internal being solid state I don't know if the external fan would be beneficial or not. Thanks for your thoughts, in advance.

Anytime you can keep an electronic device nearer to a preferred temperature, you will do nothing but good for it. In this case, you may make the fan work at slightly lower RPM. Primary cooling of the MBA is acccomplished by means of an interior fan, coupled to a heat sink/pipe leading to the CPU/GPU. This same fan also draws air over the logic board. Interior heat is also expelled, to a lesser extent, by means of being radiated and conducted by the case bottom.
However, blowing a fan across the bottom is probably the least efficient manner in which to aid cooling of the MBA, especially if you are drawing power from the MBA to run that fan.
If your goal is to extract heat from the case, you can more efficiently do so if your heat conduction to the case itself is more efficient than air, as the case bottom has a rather low surface area to exterior dimension ratio. There are heat conducting materials suited for contact cooling, such as the Targus Heat Defense Pad. This device also consumes no power from the MBA. The downside is that it is only functional for a finite period, wherein the crystals remain somewhat solidified and are able to take on heat.
If you are using the MBA for extended periods, perhaps a fan type cooler will offer some help, but don't expect much if it also contributes to heat generation by being powered from the MBA itself. Look for something that actually conducts heat from the case, and uses a fan across a high surface area element to transfer conducted heat to the air.
But as far as the MBA actually "needing" additional cooling, ...in most cases no. If it were the case, then Apple would be making the recommendation. However, there are definite situations where users are putting much more heat loading than what would be considered "normal", and in such cases, it is definetely something to consider. I use a heat defense type pad from time to time, and it works great.

  • Does the Macbook Air need a protective case to avoid scratches?

Hi.. My husband gave me a MacBook Air 11" for Christmas. I would like to ask if there is a need to put a protective case over it to avoid scratches. Also read reviews from MBA owners that putting a protective case makes the MBA heat up faster. I'm planning to get the iGlaze Moshi and considering its quite pricey, I would like your advice if there is really a need to have a protective case. Thanks!

    Hi Calcarballo.
    Many thanks for your question.
As a user of a 2013 MacBook Air I have used Specks Shell for my MacBook Air and I cannot see a difference in heat. I bought the Speck 13" SmartShell Case for the MacBook Air and personally I am happy. It keeps the font screen clean from dirt and minor scratches and the bottom safe and clean. Personally, the Shell cases will not be a massive benefit if you throw your MacBook Air around but it does add a layer of protection.
Highlights of the Specks Case include:
Durable, ultra-thin hard shell protects from scratches and scuffs
Sleek, glossy two-piece design is easy to put on and take off
Anti-tilt rubberized feet keep your MacBook stable and secure
The website for the SmartShell is here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/HD623ZM/A/speck-11-smartshell-case-for-macbook -air?fnode=50&fs=f%3D11inchmacbookair%26fh%3D36c2%252B2c0a
If you were looking for supreme protection, I would look at a Thule 11" Gauntlet Envelope Case. I have this case for the MacBook Air 2013 13" and it is way more protective, it is an envelope that is tapered to provide a perfect fit and safeguards your MacBook Air.
    Highlights of this envelope include:
Tapered shape provides a precise fit for MacBook Air
    Stitch-free, heat-welded seams
Semi-rigid EVA foam construction creates a glove-like fit and the padded protection of a sleeve
Nylex-lined interior lets MacBook easily slide in and out, preventing scratches
The website for the envelope is here: http://store.apple.com/au/product/H9933ZM/A/thule-11-gauntlet-envelope-case-for- macbook-air
Basically the choice is yours. The Protective case - the iGlaze Moshi and Speck's SmartShell will provide some protection against scratches and scruffs, but will not save your MacBook on big drops therefore do not utilise these SmartCases as an excuse to make sure your MacBook is safe. Your envelope will provide more protection but it is not as practical as the SmartCase.
    The Choice is yours!
Many Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you!

  • MacBook Air needs system reinstall but has no CD slot

I have a MacBook Air, laptop.  OS 10.6.8.  I can't give you the processor speed, memory and storage capacity because my computer won't restart.  I get as far as the Apple and the gear spinning and nothing else happens.  I then tried to restart in Safe Mode, but it does the same thing.  I tried different options, just "Option," just "Option-Command R", just "Shift R" -- the various ways that I found in the Apple forum to get to Safe Mode.  But I just get the Apple with the spinning gear.
I did get to the HARDDRIVE symbol when I just used the "Option" to restart the computer.  But there were no other options -- just the image of the HD sitting there.  I clicked on it but it just went to Apple and the spinning gear.
I read if I could reinstall the system, it would reinstall over any issues I may have, and at least leave all the data that exists on my computer; however, how would I reinstall the system if the MacBook Air has no CD slot?
I get these suggestions to use the disk utility or repair permissions, etc, but if one cannot even start their computer, there is no way to access anything on it to repair.  I first have to be able to access the computer itself and/or reinstall the system.
    Hope someone can help.  Thanks

By using the MacBook Air's original thumbdrive.

  • New to MacBook Air - need to set up emails

Hi all, I'm relatively new to apple software and have just purchased a MacBook Air (2008 I think) from a friend. I already have an iPhone and iPad which both seem to communicate fine between each other, but I now want to introduce the MacBook Air to them so that all 3 talk to each other and data / files transfer using the cloud, as my iPhone and iPad do already.......but I can't seem to figure out how.....?
Secondly, I am trying to set up my email account on my mac but again don't seem to be getting anywhere?
Any help would be much appreciated, feel free to ask me questions that might help you help me ;)
    Regards
    Stu

    You are welcome, Stu.
If you are going to iCloud that must mean you have Lion or Mountain Lion on the Air.
We are all fellow users on here and happy to help each other out so feeel free to stick around and ask questions...and, as you get experience setting up this Air, help others with your knowledge.  We like seeing new users learn and then feed that back to others, that is how we all got here.

How do I sink my iphone to my new laptop without losing all my apps and pics? I hook it up and it says if I sink it I will lose everything.

You will need a third-party utility such as Phone to Mac - Pod to Mac | Macroplant.com in order to sync.

  • Macbook Air 13" (Oct 2010) Locks up when connecting external display

Since I installed Lion my Macbook Air needs to be restarted nearly every time I connect an external display.   This did not happen prior to Lion and wondering if anyone has a solution.
    Details:
    - 13" Macbook Air (October 2010 version)
    - Dell 27" LCD display
    - Mini-Displayport <-> Displayport cable used to connect

OK. It was a guess anyway.
I changed my screen resolution and then did a search of system files to see what was changed today.
I sorted by descending date/time and that file was at the top of the list.
I opened it with the Property List Editor program and saw it contained the changed resolution, so I took a guess that deleting that file and rebooting would set you straight.
You might look for recently changed files with likely names in your personal settings folder:
    ~/library/preferences
and try deleting and re-logon (you don't need to restart if you're only changing your own files - a re-logon picks up the change)
Sorry - I don't have a better guess. Good luck

  • Macbook Air is locked. What command should I use to reboot? Why is this happening? Pics included

I recently got a MacBook Air from someone who owed me money. The MacBook Air is completely locked and Im not sure how to bypass the secured login screen or which code to use that will boot in an alternative mode. I've tried Command + R, Command + S, Option and none of these three worked. When I press Command + R, I get the following lock screen (the picture is just upside down, not sure why.)
I own a macbook pro and have reset my password using Command+R. Not sure if MacBook Airs need a different command. When I press Command+S I get a loading screen, then a screen that tells me "Your computer is disabled. Try Again in 60 minutes"
    Why is this happening?
What command can I press to bypass this?
Could I put a clean OS on a USB drive and install it that way to have a clean install? If so, how do I boot it, if I can only get to these screens?
Now that my computer is disabled and I have to wait 60 minutes, should I perform the correct command once the time is expired or can I use it immediately, while the disabled time is still active?
    Please help!!!!
Also, not sure which OS its running since I can't get pass this to fully inspect the Macbook Air.

That is an EFI Firmware Password.
There are only two ways around it: bring it and some money to Apple, who will certainly want proof of ownership, or obtain the password from its previous owner.
A third method that I do not recommend is to pay any number of sketchy third party outfits that allege a means of removing the password. There are several reasons I do not recommend it, among them: I have no personal experience with them, I have no idea if they will be successful, and you may have no recourse if they damage the Mac and render it permanently broken. Apple will certainly refuse service if anyone other than Apple or an authorized Apple repair facility tampers with it.
