Macbook Air not completely erased

Hi,
So I went to the Genius Bar and an Apple employee gave me directions on how to erase my macbook air's disk utility and ten reinstall the OS but when the computer started back up there are still contents from the previous of the erased disk utility that is still on disk utility. Somethings did erase, but there are still stuff there, so I was wondering if anyone has any idea on how to fix this issue?

Maybe you can go to you're local apple store, that's even better, so they can help you. Sorry I hope this helps and this is really good advice.

  • MacBook Air not turn on, after hard disk eject, without guarantee

Hello i have two macbook air not turning on,
after ejecting external hard disk, when macbook air is sleeping.
External hardisk ( 2.5 sata) have one ending of USB Type mini-B
and two endings of cable (one for data, other for power), of USB Type A
    After next sequence,
-insert one tail of usb cable into macbook air, the second usb cable into 5v adapter (like iPhone usb adapter)
-after some time macbook air going to sleep
-without waking macbook air, pull out the cable what connected into macbook air
MacBook Air will not turning on.
    even after this instructions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1367
In nearest AppleStore they say that there is a problem with logic part of notebook,
And the minimal price of repair will be cost half price of macbook air.
In other words, they say what they will not searching the problem of this,
they only will replace mother board.
Would you suggest other solutions ?
May be somebody else have this problem ?

OK. I wasn't quite sure. So, the first thing to try is Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM followed by Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC). If neither can be effected then take it in for service as there has been a serious hardware failure.

    Hi Bockworld1,
I'm afraid you did an error when erasing your hard-drive, this has automatically erased the "local recovery". In order to pass-by this, you must use a former Mac OS X installation DVD (such as Snow Leopard 10.6.3) and then when updated to 10.6.8 you may access the Mac App Store to recover the Yosemite Installer and proceed to a fresh "update" OR creating a Bootable USB Installation drive with DiskMaker in order to alway get a installation copy.
I also suggest you to create a USB Basic Operating System (you must select a local USB device to install Yosemite or whatever OS you want) with only the base operating system to launch your computer in case of Main Operating System issues.
Given the amounts of issues reported by users with 10.10.2, I command you to download 10.10.2 version to get a stable OS working.
Let me know how it is going.
    Good Luck.

  • MacBook AIR not functioning correctly

    HI everyone,
I have a 2014 MacBook Air running Yosemite and it has been completely functional until Friday morning when it rebooted itself without any input from myself. I was on a webpage and the screen went white before going to the Apple logo and loading bar. It stays on 50% and does not move... Occasionally after powering it down I cab get to the log in screen but cannot actually log in (the beachball of death spins and spins)
I have loaded it in Safe mode but cannot log in, have gone through Disk Utility (Cmd R) and checked the drives are functioning and I have reinstalled the OS. Just now i have done a PRAM check too... I am totally stuck now and if anyone has some advice then I am all ears.
    Thanks in advance,
    HQ78

If you have reinstalled the OS and it still doesn't work, then I'm sorry to tell you it's likely a hardware problem, which needs checking at a Genius Bar in a local Apple Store or at a Certified Service Provider.
Use this page to find one near you: https://locate.apple.com/country
If you have none nearby, I suggest you get it sent to Apple to get repaired. To do so, contact Apple Support here: http://www.apple.com/support/contact/

  • Why is my macbook air not compatible with mountain lion?

When i want to buy montain lion in the app store i get the message that my machine (Macbook air) is not compatible. Why is that and can i do something to solve that problem?

Because your model is old and does not support the 64-bit EFI ROM requirement to install Mountain Lion. If you meet the 2 GB RAM requirements you could install Lion:
Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
             7. Xserve (Early 2009)
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
Am I eligible for the free upgrade?
See Apple - Free OS X Mountain Lion upgrade Program.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

  • Macbook Air not booting up

I have '11 inch and 64gb Macbook Air, Mid 2011. I am using Mountain Lion 10.8.2. I was using Magican and find duplicates. I found some, and I erased. Then my computer started to turn off. I turned it back on, and there was only an Apple Sign and a mouse. How do I solve this problem without my files disappears?

You may well have erased files essential for the system.
Hopefully you have a backup to have your files safe?
Or you can boot from an external disk to then be able to access the files on the internal SSD?
In any case, you will likely need to re-install the OS X. Then leave your fingers from files you don't know. Best stay away completely from any of these silly "cleaners".

  • Storage space on Macbook Air not adding up

    Hi everyone,
Recently I noticed that when I go to about this mac and look at storage I see this:
The numbers don't add up at all! Plus, before I deleted all photos from iphoto, the photo section was at 1.5 TB!!!
I don't have any photos or movies from what I can tell on my computer (searched .jpeg and .mov). Not sure why it is saying I have so much space dedicated to them.
Don't know why this is happening but it is really bugging me...
I have a 2013 Macbook Air 11.6" and works great, just confused as to why the numbers are way off.

Yea, . . .That is all kinds of wrong. I have witnessed this many times during the Developer Previews. This should fix it:
    Open the Spotlight system preferences.
    Go to the Privacy tab.
Drag your hard drive to the list to add it.
Select your drive, and then click the minus button to remove it.
When you complete these steps, if you check the storage calculations before indexing is complete, then you will see the About This Mac window progressively update and change as more files are added to Spotlight’s index. Therefore, wait for the Spotlight index to fully rebuild (the progress of which can be seen by opening the Spotlight menu) before you check the storage use in the About This Mac window again.
Since this bug seems to still be active in the final release, I would highly suggest Kappy's answer for more reliable data.

  • Macbook Air not starting at all

    Hi,
i have a MacBook Air 11" (mid 2011), purchased in Australia.
the other day I powered it down, unplugged the power, re-plugged, and it won't start at all.
    no beeps, no fan noise.
Green light on the Magsafe connector.
Magsafe power works on a different Macbook.
    checked Magsafe connection for dirt/debris.
    tried with battery unplugged.
    tried with SSD out.
    tried SMC reset.
ordered and installed a new I/O Board.
i left it unplugged for a week.
    still nothing,..
when it has power connected, the top/middle of the keyboard is warmer than the sides, indicating that power is getting in.
Unfortunately i'm in Mallorca, Spain, with no Genius bar available and only 3rd party repair shops.
So before I head off to be quoted an exhorbitant amount to replace the main board, are there any other magic suggestions out there ??
    thanks in advance!

Back up all data before making any changes.
If you've installed something called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and reboot. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
If you've installed an equalizer called "Boom" or anything similar, update or delete it and reboot.
If there's no improvement, or if you're not aware of having installed anything that fits the description, post again.

Bring it right back to the Apple store and tell them what they did to try to fix the problem did not work..  They are responsible for fixing it since it is still under warranty.

  • MacBook Air not accepting new password.

I updated my MacBook Air to new OS and had to restart system, now its not accepting my password. I went online and reset password a couple of times but still cannot get Mac to accept latest password. Ideas?

You can reset your password with the install cd or usb ...
Follow these steps to reset a password when there is only one administrator account on the computer, or if the original administrator account needs a password reset. "Original" administrator account refers to the one that was created immediately after installing Mac OS X. If the original administrator password is known, that administrator account may be used to reset the passwords of other administrator accounts using the steps described above. These steps require an optical drive; if your Mac does not have an optical drive and you have a Mac OS X v10.6 Install disc, see below.
Start up from a Mac OS X Install disc (one whose version is closest to the version of Mac OS X installed).  Usually, you can start from the disc by putting it in your computer, restarting, and holding the C key. Or, put it in the computer and click the Install or Restore icon you see in the disc's main window (after which the computer will start from the disc without you needing to hold C). Or, you can use Startup Manager or the Startup Disk preference pane to select the Install disc.
Choose a language, click the arrow button to continue,
Mac OS X v10.6 or later: Choose Password Reset from the Utilities menu.
Mac OS X v10.5 or v10.4: Choose Reset Password from the Utilities menu.
Mac OS X v10.3: Choose Reset Password from the Installer menu.
