Bring it right back to the Apple store and tell them what they did to try to fix the problem did not work..  They are responsible for fixing it since it is still under warranty.

  • Macbook Air suddenly goes to sleep

Sometimes when I'm using my Macbook Air in bed in my lap the screens goes dark and it goes to sleep on its own.  I think it may have something to do with having my phone in my pocket at the same time.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Yeah I've noticed that about my MBA too.  Not sure why it happens though.

  • MacBook Pro not going to sleep

This just started, but it seems the MBP does not really go to sleep.  This happens when I shut the lid or do so in the Apple menu.  The screen blanks, but the machine is still on and seems to get very hot while just sitting there.  The MBP is usually plugged in, so the battery charge is not an issue.  I've checked all the setting that I know of, nothing seems to help.  Any suggestions?

I took my macbook in a few days ago to the genius bar for the sleep issue. See below for my issue and steps taken to resolve:
Issue: Macbook running latest version of Leopard OSX with Intel processor does not sleep when closing the lid. Instead, it continuously shuts down and sleeps. In addition, my bluetooth module is missing and cannot pair with any devices or be set up.
Resolution: I took my macbook into the genius bar. After running a hard drive and bluetooth check, both the hard drive and bluetooth passed, meaning that the issue was not bad hardware. She instead believed the issue was corrupt files on the OSX software. She suggested a clean erase and install using my Leopard CD. I did a clean erase and install, which fixed both the bluetooth and the sleep function issues.
However, if you use Time Machine to back up your files, do not use migration assistant to migrate your files from your external hard drive once you have performed a clean install. Any issue that caused the original sleep/bluetooth problem will show up on your backup hard drive. Instead, manually transfer your files, waiting for about a day for each set of files transferred to ensure the problem does not recur. I've already had the problem recur after migrating some files, indicating that one of the files I migrated was corrupt and caused the problem. So be careful when you migrate, otherwise you'll have to do another clean install if you accidentally migrate the corrupt files that caused the sleep issue.

  • External hard drives not going to sleep

External HDs (I have two) connected to my 2.26 unibody macbook are not going to sleep even though I have the appropriate check box selected in System Prefs. Running 10.6.8. Connected through the USB ports in my 23" cinema display. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Lion may not be able to put them to sleep (as it can internal drives). The drives often come with drive management software to do that (check that it is Mac OS compatible). I have two Segate drives that backup my server and then sleep, but that is managed by the managment software.

  • MacBook not going to sleep when connected to WiFi

    Hi there,
my MacBook 3,1 is not going to sleep as long as it is connected to WiFi.
It starts the process of going to sleep as my VNC connection gets dropped but it stays awake. I can easily reconnect.
Everthing else is working fine. Any suggestions?

    Hello everyone,
I'm facing the same syptom. I tried many things and now havw to live with putting the MacBook to slee by hand. I had some other issues just before that:
1: The MB returned randomly from sleep while being closed. That was annoying. I think it was fixed after installing smart sleep and doing some cleanup in the preference files.
2: Then I was put "randomly" to sleep. I figured that came from overheating the processor (thus I'm gld it went to sleep). The fan speed control was set to constantly 2000 rpm. Installing fanControl helped.
3: Lid closing did not init the sleep mode and the backlight is not turning off. Niether does it wake up on opening when I put it io sleep manually (I have to press a key).
The sensor for closing the lid seems to work, if it is the same which controls the maximum brightnes of the sleep indicator light (pulsing). It is darker when the lid is closed.
I wonder if there is some settings tool.
Besides I think the issues started after the Software updates around 12th of dec. 2008, with MacOS10.5.6 and the EFI & SMC firmware updates.
    I'm eager to get answers.
    Kid regards, Ralf.

Good advice from Linc Davis that should sort out your query i think...
However you dont want to set your MBP to never go to sleep...
    Adjust reasonable sleep settings...
And the download an APP called caffiene...
When you click it you can have your MBP never go to sleep with a single click of your menu bar... and with another click it can go to sleep normally to maintain the laptop...
Simply click the cup... To toggle never sleep/sleep

  • Macbook air wot get off sleep?

I have a recently bought a Macbook air- at most 3 weeks old. Due to the close proximity of the power button to the delete button, I sometimes press the off button accidentally. The Air then goes into sleep mode, at which it is usually toggled off if I close the lid and open it again. However, there are some times when ono amount of closing the lid and re-opening will do the trick, or hitting the space bar (or any key for that matter.) LIghtly tappping the power button again doesn't work- what only seems to work is to restart the computer. This is very annoying- as I am writing someething and have to restart entirely and also re-login into my accounts.
I have unchecked "put all hardware to sleep" in System Preferences.
    Any solutions?

Common problem, for which Apple have yet to produce a solution.  It is said that they are working on a firmware update that will address it but this has been talked about for a long time and still no update.

The current "solution" (which is not a solution) given by Apple is to set sleep mode to 'never', or to wait a few secconds after sleep before waking the MBA, or install the free App 'Caffeine" which allows you to manually activate sleep and wake.
Some persons have claimed a "bare metal restore" of the operating system resolved the problem but others have tried this without success.

  • Computer not going to sleep when lid closed

My wife's new MacBook Air has a couple of problems we can't figure out.  First sometimes the computer is not going to sleep when lid is closed and when we lift the lid everything is frozen.
Second, the user Library folder is not seeable in her user account.  I know it's there because on the side bar there's a short cut to Preferences folder which we can open.
    Strange behavior.
    Thanks,
    Ron

    Ron,
The user library folder (~/Library/) is hidden by default in Lion. I assume Apple doesn't want people mucking around with the sensitive files in there. So this is normal behavior.
As for the freezing issue, I would suggest you reset your power management and perform a safe boot to clear out caches. You should also see if the issue persists after disconnecting USB perhipherals.
    Here's how:
    Power Management:
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
    Safe Boot:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).

  • MacBook Air not turn on, after hard disk eject, without guarantee

Hello i have two macbook air not turning on,
after ejecting external hard disk, when macbook air is sleeping.
External hardisk ( 2.5 sata) have one ending of USB Type mini-B
and two endings of cable (one for data, other for power), of USB Type A
    After next sequence,
-insert one tail of usb cable into macbook air, the second usb cable into 5v adapter (like iPhone usb adapter)
-after some time macbook air going to sleep
-without waking macbook air, pull out the cable what connected into macbook air
MacBook Air will not turning on.
    even after this instructions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1367
In nearest AppleStore they say that there is a problem with logic part of notebook,
And the minimal price of repair will be cost half price of macbook air.
In other words, they say what they will not searching the problem of this,
they only will replace mother board.
Would you suggest other solutions ?
May be somebody else have this problem ?

OK. I wasn't quite sure. So, the first thing to try is Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM followed by Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC). If neither can be effected then take it in for service as there has been a serious hardware failure.

  • MBP not going to sleep

I have had my MacBook Pro for a little over a week now and i am noticing that it is not going to sleep according to my energy saver preferences, or at all for that matter. Any ideas?

Something must be preventing it going into the appropriate sleep mode; either some software running or a lack of space for the sleepimage file (most unlikely at this point). Run /Utilities/Console, click 'All Messages' top left and then select Sleep from the Apple menu top left - there should be some lines in the Console Log that will give a clue about what's going on (post them here if you like).

  • Macbook will not go to sleep

Recently my macbook has stopped going to sleep. When I close it, the screen will go black, but then it will make the noise that it makes when it turns on continually every 15 to 30 seconds and the white light on the front side will not blink the way it does when it sleeps. It just drains the battery until I open it again. If I try to put it to sleep by clicking the blue apple and selecting sleep, the screen will go black for a few seconds but then it will make the noise and turn on again. It doesn't matter if I am logged off or logged on or if any applications are running or not. I have already checked my energy saving settings (they are on normal) and there is nothing out of place on my keyboard.
There have been no other problems with turning it off/on. The battery is still charging fine.
Anyone know what this might be? Should I take it in?

    Fixed by resetting the SMC.

  • Computer hanging on closing lid and not going to sleep, indicator does not blink

    i have a 1 month old Macbook Pro 13" i5 with 4Gb memory.
when i am closing the lid the computer is not going to sleep, hard drive continues to spin and power indicator does not blink and it remains solid.
on opening the lid again screen keep blank and does not show anything while i can hear spinning of hard drive. than i have to forcefully shut off the computer by pressing power key and than computer starts after that.
Apple support told me to press shift+control+option+power and than start computer, it fixed the problem only once and they told me to do it again when it comes again. but write now i am getting it everytime.

    Hi guys -
First off make sure you don't have 'Wake for ethernet access...' enabled in System Preferences/Energy Saver/Options - I'd also run Disc Utility and repair your permissions as well. OS X requires 'maintenance routines' to be performed on a certain basis and you can use this free application to help you with that...Onyx.
Check the obvious as well - that you don't have any applications that might keep your Macbook awake ...some printer utilities do this for example.
After all this shut down and restart and hopefully things will be better - if not, there may be a chance that the mechanical parts that put your computer to sleep may be at fault ...and you'll need to visit an Apple dealer to verify this.
    Hope some of this helps.

  • Macbook will not go to sleep on its own since Lion.

I have a macbook running Lion 10.7.5.  I also use an external monitor.  The macbook will not go to sleep on its own and I think it has something to do with the monitor.  Any suggestions?

You can test as to whether this issue has to do with the external monitor. Disconnect the display. If the MacBook now goes to sleep normally, then the issue is with the display. If it does not then the issue is with the MacBook.
    Best of luck.

New (3mo) macbook air screen goes black and sometimes won't come back on after I unplug it from the power cord.  Any ideas why it is doing this? Sometimes I have to hold power button for 10 seconds for it to shut off then back on. Sometimes holding the power button for a second is enough for it to come back on.

I took it to the Genius Bar, and they identified it as a hardware issue. Just got it back today. Parts replaced were:
620-5629 Display Module — Symptom: Distored/blurred/focus video issue
605-3284 Top Case with Keyboard — Symptom: specific key(s) do not work
So far so good. I'd suggest taking it in and not trying to work around it — it's a rare hardware issue (given the number of threads about it) and should be replaced.

  • MacBook no longer goes to sleep automatically

I asked the question in the Mac Pro forum by mistake.. Hopefully I can get some input here?
My MacBook no longer goes to sleep automatically after the 'Computer Sleep' period has elapsed and without me using it. I can however make the MacBook go to sleep by using a sleep command from the menu or the one on the logon screen, as well ask closing the lid.
I have tried hard to find out what the problem is, but to no avail
    1. I have reset the NVRam
    2. I have reset the SMC
    3. I have deleted the sleepimage cache
    A. I have turned off 'Wake for Network Access'
    B. I have a Magic Mouse, but have turned off 'allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer.
My MacBook won't sleep even if I close all programs beforehand.
These are the products that I have an start up:
    itunes helper
    radioshift helper
    colormunki
    media (mounted volume)
    skype
No one else uses my MacBook
I don't have any sharing services enabled that I am aware of. In any case no one would be accessing my MacBook from any other networked machine.
Time Machine is enabled and writes to a Netgear NV+
I have a similar problem with my Mac Mini. Can anyone help me analyse what is happening?
    Thanks for your help

Hi there, It's a very common problem. Some people seem to have solved the problem by checking Activity Monitor to see if there are any messages that may help identify if a piece of software is preventing the system from entering a sleep state. I did this and realised my external HD software was preventing the system from sleeping. Now my MBP 15" i5 predictably sleeps and my battery life is extended.
There is a lot of good advice here:--->>
