MacBook Air & Photoshop - Your Experiences

The one issue surrounding the Air that causes some concern for me is how it handles Photoshop CS3. The Air would never be my primary machine but I would really like to hear how users running PS on their Air are finding it. As a point of comparison my primary machine is a 24" iMac 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB of memory. I don't expect the Air to compete with this but also can't find myself pulling my hair out when I'm on the road.
Your thoughts are welcome and appreciated...

I've only had my MBA a few weeks, but it runs photoshop pretty well (especially as a second machine). I'm using CS3 mostly for web and photo (raw processing) stuff, not heavy-duty print work so your mileage could vary. It's not as fast obviously as my mac pro at work, but it's very usable.

I don't think so, because this is not about garageband specificaly, it's about the mac using internal speakers and iphone headset microphone at the same time. Input Microphone via Jack and Output speakers on the laptop.

  • TS4611 Guys if you have these build: 12E3200 and your wifi is dropping, is not the your mid 2013 macbook air, is your router, I solve it by setting up my time capsule as a new network problem solved

Here is what I have been doing:
I got my new macbook air 11" two weeks ago, and have been haven problems with wifi connection dropping, I'm using verizon fioz at home, and their router
I also have a time capsule not set up as a network just join it to my current one.
After looking online all these days, I though, maybe is the verizon device that is updated..
I then reset the time capsule, created a new network
connected my system to the time capsule network, and there it is
    DONE, everything works now.
So if you are haven the same problem,, that is the fix
    hope that helps.
Oh  before I did these I try everything, the wifi update from apple don't work it keeps dropping it
I try everything, so don't and delete the system as some people have done, I read somewhere.
try my fix hopes that works.

I have seen lots of issues on Yosemite with Wifi (and have been having issues myself), but yours seem different. It is a pretty new computer, have you tried taking it in under Applecare (if you live somewhere this is convenient)? Maybe you just got a defective wifi card.  I won't defend Apple over this wifi mess, because it really is terrible, but your issue seems not the same as the ones I've read about while researching how to fix mine (unsucessfully....).

  • Macbook air Photoshop screen glitch

Im using the mid 2013 macbook air, when I set any brush in photoshop over 100px my screen starts flashing and glitching up.
I turned off the setting to use the graphics proccessor and set it to basic, nothing is making it stop. My photoshop is up-to date.
    Any ideas?

Same here as well, any larger brush new MacBook Air 13", Haswell 1.7 GHz, 8GB, 512 SSD, Photoshop CS6 v13.1.2 20130105.r.224, OS X v10.8.4.
Called Apple support, and was told to call Adobe support. Called Apple support again and had better help the 2nd time. Did the following:
    - Created new user account, system restart
    - Did a hardware test (press D key and start computer)
    - Changed performance setting in CS6 (Preferences-> Performance-> Graphics Processor Setting-> Drawing Mode = Basic)
The problem persists no matter what and larger brushes are unusable. I hope someone is listening to these issues as I don't seem to be alone.

  • New MacBook Air Photoshop CC Problems

I recently bought a 2014 Macbook Air. I own a Mac Pro which I generally use for Adobe CC, but I wanted something I could do light work on portably. As soon as I started working on Photoshop things were going crazy. The images started distorting, backgrounds would show my computer background instead of the default white background on photoshop, and the paint brush tools were pixelated. I don't know what is going on, and any help would be appreciated, as I have never had these kind of problems on my mac pro.

My thought is that the GPU shares the main memory and I'm thinking 4 GB is very sparse. Can you at least bump it up to 8 or 16 GB?

  • Who has a MacBook Air from Refurbished products source?  Good or Bad?

What has been your experience? Is there anything I need to be aware of if I order a refurbished MacBook Air. My experience with other refurbished Apple products has been 100% satisfaction.

I bought a refurb Air the first day they appeared on apple.com. It has been fantastic; I haven't seen any of the common problems talked about here. I can get one of the cores to shut down, say after a while of ichat video, but I haven't noticed that the system becomes especially slow when that happens. My only complaint is that my trackpad button doesn't like to stay clicked without a fair bit of force *in the center*. Next time I'm in a city with an Apple store I'll check that out.
I'm wondering if maybe refurb isn't the way to go -- perhaps an overheating unit that got some special attention from an Apple serviceperson that reapplied just the right amount of thermal paste?

  • I have used Airport Time Capsule with my iMac for several years. I recently purchased a MacBook Air and when it tried to backup to Time Capsule it couldn't because Time Capsule is full. How can I now use the 3TB Airport Time Capsule to back up both?

I have used Airport Time Capsule with my iMac for a couple years. I recently purchased a MacBook Air and when it tried to backup to Time Capsule it couldn't because Time Capsule is full. How can I now use the 3TB Airport Time Capsule to back up both the iMac and MacBook Air? I don't mind losing earlier backups. I have excluded some items from backing up, but since the Airport Time Capsule is full, I can't even begin to back up the MacBook Air.

    On your Mac.......
Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click on the Disks tab at the top of the window
    Click Erase Disk
On the next window that appears, select the Quick Erase option, then click Erase
The operation will only take a few minutes.
Now you are ready to start new backups of both Macs.  Back up one Mac first, then back up the other.  Do not try to back up both Macs as the same time.

  • Transfer pictures from a MacBook Pro to a MacBook Air?

I have 3,500 pictures in iPhoto on my MacBook Pro and want to transfer them to my MacBook Air - what is the best way?

Why not try to add that library to Macbook Air via your network, go to File-switch library and navigate to your library on your Macbook Pro.  If you were planning to access it via a network you'd be all set that way only thing would be that it is not physically on the Air.  You would need the Pro powered up/available to access the library.
You could probably copy/paste via your network to transfer it, but "Shared Library" is explained here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US and may or may not be the answer to your question.

  • Asus external drive and macbook air

My sister in law recently purchased a macbook air from an online store that's affiliated with her work. Unfortunately, the apple products that they got their are too expensive. At the same time they are not new models but definitely brand new. I recently bought an asus external usb drive (SDRW-08D2S-U). I actually bought thiss o I could fix her other laptop that runs windows 8. I was wondering if this would work on OSX mavericks? You see the macbook air would arrive next week. I believe this macbook runs mountain lion. I plan to upgrade the software to osx mavericks once it gets delivered. Do you guys suggest buying a super drive instead for the macbook air?

Your questions don't really make any sense, especially the last one.
The Apple Superdrive is an external DVD drive. The Macbook Air is a Complete computer (except it does not have a DVD drive built in).
As to the drive it can be formatted to work with any operating system, Mac OS X, Windows, Linux, Solaris, Whatever.

My Macbook Air broke. Please help me, Russian Apple Customer Support don't want help me. I'm in despair.
Hi, I bought my MacBook Air  in your store. In the summer of 2012. My mac is included in the program MacBook Air Flash Storage Drive Replacement Program. I live in Russia. I called the Russian support Apple. They told me to bring mac to an authorized service center. An authorized service center I was told to wait 45 days of the new flash storage drive. It's very long for me. I can `t wait long. I work on a Mac. I do not have another computer. Russian support Аpple does not want to help me. Can you help me? Serial number my MacBook Air : c0*******rvc
    <Personal Information Edited by Host>

Leaving you without a computer for 45 days isn't acceptable. Call Apple and ask for a loaner or replacement. Some people have been receiving them.
If you still have no luck, then consider getting a USB 3.0 HDD and installing and running OS X on it until the replacement part is in.

  • How to sync iphone 5 to macbook air

i'm on wifi and just updated my iphone 5 contacts.  I tried to sync with my macbook air but it isn't working.  Any advice?

    Hello Matt,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your calendar events syncing.  It sounds like you may have a syncing service setup on your MacBook Air and iPhone 5, and there are a few things I recommend checking.
The first thing I recommend checking is if the default calendar on both devices are the same.  You can check the default calendar on your MacBook Air by going to Calendar > Preferences > General, and you can check the default calendar on your iPhone under Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    Calendar (Mavericks): General preferences
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14994
iPhone User Guide - Calendar settings
    http://help.apple.com/iphone/7/#/iph3d11102c
If you checked your default calendars but your events are still not syncing to your MacBook Air from your iPhone, I recommend checking to see if you are using iCloud to sync your calendars.  You can verify this on your MacBook Air by verifying Calendars is checked in System Preferences>iCloud, and you can verify Calendars is enabled in Settings>iCloud on your iPhone:
    iCloud: Change iCloud feature settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2613
If you are using iCloud, you can use the following article to further troubleshoot the calendar syncing issue:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • How Play Blu-Ray on MacBook Air?

    Mavens,
Have you ever travelled with your MacBook Air...intending to view a few Netflix originated Blu-Ray discs to fend off the boredom of yet-another-bland-hotel-room...only to discover the Apple SuperDrive doesn't support Blu-Ray?
What did you do? Is there a legitimate way to view Blu-Ray discs on an Air? Are there reliable 3rd-party drives/software available?
    Your suggestions are invited.
    Thanks,
    Plane Wryter

Step 1: Connect the Blu-ray drive to the MacBook Air via the USB interface
Step 2: Get the MacBook Air Blu-ray Player
Step 3: Install and run MacBook Air Blu-ray Player software on your MacBook Air
Step 4: Play Blu-ray Disc, Blu-ray ISO file, BDMV folder on MacBook Air
Insert your BD into the Blu-ray driver and MacBook Air Blu-ray Player software will load and the BD will be played automatically.
Otherwise, you can press "Open Disc" button to select BDMV folder or press "Open File" button to choose Blu-ray ISO file to play.
Finally, you can have a great Blu-ray fun on your MacBook Air.
By the way, you can change it into full-screen mode, which will bring you into a more fantastic Blu-ray media world.

  • I recently bought a Macbook Air and a Thunderbolt Display and the laptop's power is supposed to come from the display, but the power cable on the display does not fit into the Macbook Air.

I recently bought a 11" Macbook Air and a 27" Thunderbolt Display. The laptop's power is supposed to come from the display when connected, but the power cable on the display does not fit into the Macbook Air.

If your MBair is a 2012 model, it has a Magsafe 2 power connection.  The monitor probably has the old magsafe connection.  If this is the case, you need this adapter.
