MacBook Air, Promise Pegasus R4, AppleTV

Hi,
I'm not very technical, so excuse my ignorance..
I have a MacBook Air, Promise Pegasus R4 and AppleTV.  The iTunes library is stored on the Pegasus, which is accessed via the MacBook Air.
My issue is that I don't want to keep my MacBook Air stuck sitting next to the Pegasus all day.
Does it make sense to buy a mac mini and have that attached to the pegasus?  Would I be able to use the MacBook Air as the display for the Mac Mini?
Is there a better solution?
Thanks

Power it off.

    Any help is much appreciated.

  • Trouble Streaming shows from Macbook Air to AppleTV

Every time I try to stream a television show, movie, etc. to my AppleTV that was purchased from iTunes on my MacBook Air, the content is so choppy as to be unwatchable. Oddly, the blue bar at the bottom of the display on AppleTV indicates that the show is fully "spooled up." Still, the shows pause randomly and very frequently. The pauses sometime last as long as a minute or more.
This has only started recently and I have not made any significant changes to my Air or network. My home wireless network is comprised of a Time Machine and Airport Express.
Is this is problem with my Air, AppleTV, Time Machine, Airport Express, or a combination of the above? It seems like there should be a simple fix for this.
    Any ideas?

If this only started recently, try restarting all your equipment, if the problem persists you may be encountering interference from another device, try changing the wifi channel that your network operates over.

My MBA fans start running when I play video too - the CPU's video processor is working pretty hard to decode the video. The fans job is to provide better airflow.  The time to worry is when you play video and the fans don't run.

  • MacBook AIR + Time Capsule + AppleTV

    Hi everyone
These are my 3 Apple components (plus an ipod classic 80G)
My idea was to keep all my music and movies in the Time Capsule (in a music and pictures folder previously created) and only my pictures in the MacBook AIR, due to its limited space... I would then tell itunes to add media from the Time Capsule (or I would drag to itunes)
Everything seemed to work just fine for a few months, but lately I´m having quite some trouble
It happens that sometimes I open itunes and it doesn´t find some or all of my media, when everything was fine when I previously closed itunes
In preferences, I have the itunes music folder this way:
Macintosh HD:users:xxx:music:itunes (all though as I said before music and movies are in the TC)
The funny thing is that itunes can´t find the media (I get that sign to the left of the song´s name), but if I press play it does play it
It wouldn´t bother me so much if it did also sync my apple tv and ipod without problem, but I get problems everytime
Is ther a solution to this?
Thanks for your help and time

I don´t know what afp is, I will investigate on that, but it did work fine for a while and is working fine now (hope it lasts).... it got messed up with no reason a couple of weeks ago, I changed nothing, and it was a nightmare fixing everything because it takes forever to create a library with all this wifi going on, and then bucking up apple tv again, and go through that endless process about the "playing without pause"
I just couldn´t go through all that again
I´m really afraid this could happen again... Do you think mounting the TC using afp could be the solution?
    Thank you very much

  • No video mirroring AppleTV ver 2 or 3 from new Macbook Air (very latest)

I have both a 2nd gen and 3rd gen apple TV and a brand new Macbook Air with Mountain Lion plus all updates installed on all devices. I can see both Apple TVs in myAirplay menu and can select either one. In both cases the sound works but the TV video goes blank and then later returns to the screensaver while the sound continues to stream. I have tried every possible resolution setting and nothing seems to work. The Apple TVs have hardwired ethernet and the Macbook Air is using wireless through my Airport Extreme (less than six months old).
Any ideas on what the problem is or how to resolve?

I'm in a similar boat to you, wondering whether I should replace my 2006 MBP 2.4 C2D 4Gb/160Gb with the top spec 13" MBA, or wait unti the next MBP refresh at the end of the year / begining of 2012.
FWIW, I think for your needs a MBA would probably do the job quite admirably... it should be able to handle rippng and Handbrake with no problems (faster than your current set up, but not as fast as a MBP).
I guess the real test is how well it can handle HD editing. I'm sure it will be fine for the occasional use, but then again a MBP would be better.
Personally though, I think you'd probably get more use and life out of a MBP. Mine is still going strong and it is more than adequate for my daily uses, but it's time for a change anyway.

  • Macbook Air with appleTV

    Hi,
I have an old Mac book air with Mac OS X 10.6.8 (2008 or 2009) and I want to buy apple TV. I am not sure whether it will work with my old macbook air. Could you please advice? does it help to upgrade the operating system if it does not work? thanks

    Hi buket39,
For AirPlay Mirroring with OS X your computer is probably too old. See the system requirements here.
About AirPlay Mirroring in OS X - Apple Support
    A supported Mac
AirPlay Mirroring in OS X takes advantage of the hardware capabilities of recent Macs to deliver high frame rates while maintaining optimal system performance. The following Mac models support AirPlay Mirroring when using OS X Mountain Lion or later:
    iMac (Mid 2011 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)
Mac Pro (Late 2013 or newer)
Of course you can still use the Apple TV independent of the computer and maybe with an iOS device.
    Take care,
    Nubz

  • Can I connect my MacBook Air wirelessly to my Panasonic Viera HDTV

I would like to connect my MacBook Air to my Panasonic Viera HDTV wirelessly, so that we can view family photos, videos etc on the large flat screen. Is it possible and, if so, how do I go about it?

I believe you would need an Apple TV:
    https://www.apple.com/appletv/
FWIW, you are not running iOS (any version) on a Mac computer, it would be Mac OS 10.x.x (which is helpful for anyone trying to help you).

  • How to use my macbook air as a dvr

I would like to use my MacBook Air as a DVR in this manner:  I would bring up a flick that I missed and stream it (after the "live" broadcast").  I would like to record it to my "MacDVR" and play it back enabling me to Fast Forward thru the commercials (saving time and patience).  The recording can be done in the background, even if the MacBook's cover is closed -- a set it up and let it run for a given time type of process.  I do not necessarily want to edit the recording.
I do watch some programs on NetFlix thru my AppleTV, but CBS is notorious for NOT allowing this for their programming.  I do not have cable TV, only TWC as my ISP at 20Mbits, and a hefty price ($66/month).  I use OTA antenna for my TV (not a big watcher).
So is there a program out there that can do this?
    Thanks.

If you have a valid sim card or know somebody who has one, stick that in there to activate your phone, then just take out the sim after you're done activating it an it should work fine.
    Hope this helped!
    Cheers

  • Cannot connect Macbook Air to Samsung TV via HDMI

Hello, I have been completely unable to get my Macbook Air (13-inch, Mid 2011, running OS X 10.9.1) to connect to my new Samsung TV (UN32EH5000F)  I feel like I have tried everything I can think of, have spent hours now looking for a solution online.  I also consulted Samsung tech support, who were not helpful in that they insisted the problem is with my Macbook (because the HDMI port on the TV works when I hook up my DVD player).
I'm trying to connect my Macbook Air to the TV using a Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt Compatible) to HDMI cable.  I have gotten the connection to work on my LG monitor (via the same HDMI cable), but this did require some switching back and forth between sources before it would appear as an external monitor on my Mac and doesn’t seem to work reliably.  Sometimes I can get the LG monitor to work as an external display over HDMI and sometimes I can’t.
I have also gotten the TV to work ONCE on my Macbook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008, running 10.9) by plugging the cable into the Mini DisplayPort while the computer was asleep.  I have not been able to replicate this in many tries since that first time.
When I insert either end of the cable (either into the TV or the Macbook Air), the screen flashes as if recognizing that the cable is plugged in, but the TV always says "No Signal."
    I have also tried:
Every possible combination of plugging in cables
Shutting down my Mac and the TV and rebooting
Switching the source on my TV back and forth
Plugging the HDMI cable into both ports on the TV
Changing the name of the HDMI source on my TV (to available options like "PC", "DVI", "DVI PC", etc.)
    Battery power and AC adaptor
Resetting the PRAM and the SMC
Using the Option button in Display preferences to click “Detect Displays”
    Any help would be appreciated!

  • How can i stream video and audio from macbook air to my tv?

how can i stream video and audio from macbook air to my tv?

Wirelessly: you need an AirPlay - enabled device such as an AppleTV.
Wired: if your TV has an HDMI port, you need a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter such as this one:
Mini DisplayPort to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support
If your TV does not have an HDMI port you will need a converter that will convert HDMI input to whatever input your TV requires.
