MacBook Air purchased at Best Buy

I purchased an "open box" MacBook Air today at Best Buy. It has no iPhoto, iWork, GarageBand or iMovie apps on it. I was under the impression it was pre-loaded. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks!

Open the Mac App Store, the stylized A in the blue circle, and click Purchases and see if it shows iPhoto, etc as available.
If OT, take it back to Best Buy and ask them where the software is that should have been loaded.

Also, I had to install the software twice on my same computer before because I had to reboot the computer. I don't know if this affects the limit.

You are allowed to have two activated installations so there should not be a problem having working installations on the two machines.  If by chance you have somehow tied up two activations for the one machine you can have Adobe support help resolve that thru chat.

  • Does Apple cover imac's purchased at Best Buy?

Also, can I extend the warrenty through Apple?
    Thanks

And yes, iMacs purchased through Best Buy have full warranty coverage. Best Buy is even an authorized Apple service center that can perform warranty repairs, though I've heard spotty reports as to their service quality.
As to AppleCare, you can purchase it through any Apple dealer including Amazon. Shop around; prices vary for the same package, and it doesn't matter where you purchase as long as you get the appropriate package for the iMac.
    Regards.

  • Can I get a protection plan if I bought my MacBook from another seller (Best Buy)?

I bought a Macbook Pro Retina from Best Buy but I didn't like their plan and wanted to get the AppleCare Protection Plan and was wondering how I can apply buy it and apply it to the Mac I bought from Best buy?

Buy it from the online Apple Store or a physical Apple Store normally.

  • I have an early model MacBook Air purchased 2008 with a removable back casing can I purchase and add an additional 2 GB of memory?

I have an early model MacBook Air purchased 2008 with a removable back casing. Can I purchase and add an additional 2 GB of memory?

Whether you open it or not, is completely irrelevant to the question.
All Macbook Airs have memory that is permanently soldered to the logic board, and there are no expansion slots. Hence, no Macbook Air may be upgraded from the memory configuration it had when it was manufactured.
Your system came with 2 Gb, it will always have only 2 Gb.

  • MacBook Air, purchased 2011. Stuck on grey apple screen. Help!

MacBook Air purchased in 2011, never had any trouble previously. Grey Screen stuck in thinking mode, will not accept any commands.  Have let battery drain and re charged but no difference. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Being stuck at the grey screen generally means there's something wrong involving reading something from or writing something to the hard drive. Letting the battery die may be something that is sometimes useful for a phone or iPod, but never for a computer.
Step 1: try restarting in Safe Mode. Reboot and when you hear the chime and/or the LCD backlight comes on press and hold the shift key until you see the Apple icon. The bootup will take longer than normal because the hard drive is being examined and repaired.  If this works you'll get to the desktop but Safe Mode only loads a minimal number of drivers so some things won't work. Reboot normally and see if you can get to the desktop now. If Step 1 failed or if after rebooting you returned to the gray screen try step 2.
Step 2: try restarting in Recovery Mode. Reboot and when you hear the chime and/or the LCD backlight comes on press and hold the command and R keys. You should boot into a utility mode where you can a) check the hard drive directory and repair it if need be and b) download and reinstall the operating system and that's what you should try doing.
If step 2 fails reboot holding option, command and R. This is Internet Recovery mode which is similar to Recovery mode except the drive will probably need to be formatted or partitioned before the OS can be reinstalled. This will erase all your data.
And if this fails call AppleCare or make an appointment at the Apple store.

  • How to switch unwanted Premiere Elements - purchased from Best Buy - to Photoshop Elements? [was: Is the Amazon chat assistance ever available or is it a myth?]

Chat is supposed to be available but never seems to be. Has anyone succeeded in getting through?

Thanks for the reply Barbara. I suspect I know the answer to this, but I was hoping to persuade Adobe to allow me to correct my stupid mistake: I purchased what I believed was Photoshop Elements. In fact it was Premiere Elements, which I blithely installed on my new Macbook. What chance do I have of getting the installation cancelled and replaced with Elements? I purchased the softtware fro Best Buy.

  • How can I know if the used macbook air I want to buy has been stolen?

    Hi!
I'm looking to buy a used MacBook Air 11 inch - mid 2013. I have the serial number, but I can't find the date of purchase. The seller is not the first owner, he doesn't have the bill or any papers, he doesn't know when the original owner bought it, and he doesn't how to reach him either. When I try to look at the infos on https://selfsolve.apple.com/RegisterProduct.do?productRegister=Y&country=FRA&id= C02M5570F5N7, the site gives me the model and it ask me to confirm de date of purchase. LIke this:
Is it safe to buy this computer or not?
    Thank you!

    I concur with Barry Hemphill.
In the USA, if the property is determined to have been stolen, it must be surrendered by the individual in possession of it with no compensation.
The circumstances you describe are too suspicious.
    Ciao.

  • I have a Macbook Air purchased in 2011 in the US.  I am traveling in South Africa and am unsure if I need a step down voltage converter before I plug my laptop into the wall to charge it (using an outlet adapter).  Am I ok to just plug in?

So standard electrical output from wall outlets in the US is 110V - 120V, and standard output from wall outlets in South Africa is 220V - 240V.  In SA I know I can plug in an iPhone using the iPhone charging cable and it will automatically step down the voltage, thus preventing my phone from overheating.  I cannot plug in a hairdryer or flat iron without step down voltage converter in SA.  Can I use the charger that came with my US 2011 Macbook Air and plug into a wall outlet in South Africa or do I need to purchase a step down voltage converter in order to charge my laptop while in SA?

You only need a plug adaptor as long as the voltage is between 100 and 240 volts.

  • HT5287 how do i install microsoft on my macbook air without having to buy a 80$ disk drive

i have a macbook air and im trying to install microsft 2008. i have the cd and product key..... how do i install this product without having to buy the external disk?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you have another Mac or PC, you can use Remote Disc to install Office > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5287?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If you haven't got any other computer, then you have to buy an optical drive. You can buy the external optical drive you want, without having to buy the official SuperDrive

  • Why did my MacBook Air (purchased 4/6/14 at Apple store) have no charge left on battery and did not come with Mavericks (I had to install)?

Could I have been sold an older model? (And yes, it was in its original packaging.) At the time, I was told that it was because I bought a maxxed-out unit, and that those tend to "sit on the shelf" longer than the less expensive units. I'd appreciate any advice.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
To check if you have got the most recent MacBook Air model, open  > About this Mac > More Info. If you see you have got a Mid 2013 one, you have got the most recent MacBook Air.
Note that you may have purchased a Mac which was manufactured before the Mavericks launch (in October 2013). You can check which OS X version your Mac has got in  > About this Mac; 10.9 is the most recent version, and the latest update for OS X Mavericks is 10.9.2.

    Hi drhdrh,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of your configuration. If you are using an external SuperDrive with your MacBook Air, you may find the information and troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:
