Macbook Air Random crashing
Hi Folks
I have been having some major issues with my Macbook Air (mid 2011, Yosemite 10.10.1, 1.6GHZ core i5, 2 GB 1333 MHz DDR3)
It randomly crashes during use. Programs stop working and then the spinning beachball pops up for a few seconds before everything crashes and I have to power off/on
I did a number of system resets and reinstallation's and for a while now I have had it running generally ok except a few crashes here and there when I am using it a lot. Just had a few issues tonight and had 3 crashes in quick succession and also the ? folder pop up once.
For the first time though the system reported an error code and I have pasted it below. Has anyone seen this before or can anyone decipher what it means? I am no expert so it means very little to me. Any help would be much appreciated
Many thanks

Mid 2011 Macbook Air constant crashing
Hello,
I am experiencing random kernel panics with my Mid 2011 Macbook Air.
I have taken the laptop in to an Apple store where it passed every single test and they could not find anything wrong with it.
However, there clearly is something wrong with it. There have been times where it hasn't kernel paniced for a couple of weeks, but then it starts back up again. I have pasted below the first panic of this evening, which was then followed by 7 more whilst restarting and after logging back in.
I am currently using the laptop in safe mode, I have not used it long enough to know if this stops the kernel panics or not, but it does seem more stable.
I am now unsure what I can now do from here. Apple cannot find anthing wrong with the laptop that I have only had for 18 months, but this is clearly not fit for purpose if it cannot run OSX without crashing, something is wrong.
Where can I go from here? I can't carry on using this laptop for work it's that bad.
Thank you for your time.

I do not have anything plugged in to the laptop.
Booting into safe mode does seem more stable, but I am unable to use safe mode for prolonged periods of time to test it.
I have completely uninstall VirtualBox from my my machine since my previous post, and I am still getting kernel panics. Here is the most recent.

Macbook Air random freeze and reboot, plus other problems
I've had my Macbook Air for about 6 weeks and am having several issues. It is the 13" model, special ordered with 8GB of ram so it came straight from the factory. I copied all my data over from a mid-2010 15" Macbook Pro using migration assistant, and for the most part it has been a wonderful machine. There are a few problems, however, and now it is getting more serious.
First, I visited my closest Apple store to have them look at the wifi and bluetooth connection. It was not picking up wifi after waking up, and the same for my bluetooth mouse. They replaced some files and tested it out and it appeared to be fixed, but the problem persists. At least 50% of the time when I wake it up after leaving for 30-60 minutes, I click the mouse and it wakes up, but then there is no response when I move or click the mouse again. I often have to turn the mouse off and on several times to get it to connect.
Wifi is the same, though not as bad. Probably 10% of the time, it will not connect to a known wifi spot after wake. Sometimes it even tells me that none of my trusted networks are available, even when the network I use everyday is listed as available. This is a minor inconvenience, but it is a problem I never had with the macbook pro. Instead of picking up wifi within 10 seconds of wake, it can take as long as 60-90 seconds.
Now the real issues begin. Yesterday morning I stepped away from the computer for a few minutes, and when I returned it had rebooted itself. I do not know why. Only a few programs were running, nothing like system update that would restart the computer. I did a search online but could not find anything recent enough to point to a possible problem.
Then this morning it froze while I was using it. Mouse and keyboard (both external and the ones on the laptop) stopped responding. After a few minutes of waiting I finally shut it down by holding the power button until it turned off. This was alarming, especially less than 2 months after buying the machine. I will likely make an appointment at the Apple store again but these issues happen randomly and if I can't reproduce it they have little hope of diagnosing the problem.
Has anyone else had similar issues? I have run system update and nothing else is pending. This weekend I may restore it to factory settings and load all my data manually instead of copying from timemachine, but that is a royal pain. I'm looking for any suggestions of what to do because I planned to use this computer for years and the first 6 weeks have been very frustrating. It is probably best to return to the Apple store for assistance, however, you do have 90 days of phone (in the US 800-275-2273) access to Apple which you can use too. If you buy Applecare anytime in the first year of ownership, the warranty and phone access is extended for a total of 3 years coverage (warranty and phone).

Macbook Pro Randomly Crashes w/ Most Recent Crash Report
Hey, everyone. Hopefully someone can help me with this one. Within the last two months, my 15" Macbook Pro has been randomly crashing on me, normally right after a boot up. I currently have version 10.6.8. What may happen is that I'll be 5 minutes after I've booted up the computer, the screen will go black and every time that I've had music playing during this time it skips. I've checked just about every software update I could think of and I seem to be up to date with everything and/or any updates I do install don't seem to affect this problem either way. I have past crash reports after this same incident happened as well, so I can provide those if needed. I must add that I do take this laptop just about everywhere, so it is totally possible that I've just handled the machinary too rough. Thank you very much to whoever can help.

I have a MacBook Pro mid 2010 with ML on it and i take it everywhere, i mean it. i have between two and 5 random crashes a day where i get a black screen and immediately later i get a grey screen attached below before it starts booting.
i've been saving the crash logs and started to notice a trend in which both
com.apple.driver.AppleUSBUHCI and com.apple.filesystems.smbfs
are the star players in the last loaded and unloaded kext. below is a snippet from one of the crash logs
last loaded kext at 322317713273: com.apple.filesystems.smbfs 1.8 (addr 0xffffff7f977af000, size 229376)

does any one have some clue as what may be the problem? -
My late 2010 MacBook Air suddenly crashes and will not stay on.
I returned from a trip during which I used my MacBook Air (Late 2010) constantly. Upon leaving the hotel I closed the computer and put it into my carrier and did not open it until arriving at home later that day. There was moisture on the keyboard and screen at the corresponding position in an area about the size of a 50¢ piece, I cleaned that up and turned the machine on and it booted up and then created. Several times it would turn off and on a few times without any input from me. At times it will boot up like all is well but with any keystroke it crashes to a black screen. If I had to guess, I'd say the HD is toast. It was replaced under warranty once already. The moisture is a complete mystery. Any ideas?
What method were you using for travel? I think sometimes condensation can happen in flight. Sounds like there was more moisture on the motherboard as well. Leave it for a few days in the sunlight if possible and see what happens after that.

Macbook air keeps crashing?
So basically I was using the macbook air as always and suddenly it changed to the gray 'screen of death'. It crashed 2 times in a single day. I was using pages and BAM, gray screen of death. Just in case it's relevant, It's a 2013 macbook air, with OSX mavericks installed. Uh, not much applications downloaded outside the app store. just steam.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select the most recent panic report (with a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic") under the heading System Diagnostic Reports on the left. If you don't see that heading, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Post the entire contents of the report — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post any other kind of diagnostic report, such as a hang report. -
My MacBook Air randomly locks up
Hello.
Last Friday I was working on my MacBook Air (13', mid-2011, OS X Mavericks) as usual when suddenly right in the middle of something my Mac just locked up. It completely froze – I was not even able to move my cursor. For a minute I tried to press different buttons, but nothing helped, so I ended up hard resetting my Mac and continued to work, thinking that it was a random error and it would never happen again.
However, on Saturday my Mac froze in exactly the same way when I war reading my Facebook feed. Then, a few hours later, it froze right in the middle of web surfing. Today, it froze on the desktop, and just a couple of minutes ago it completely locked up when I was editing a Pages file.
Yesterday I ran Disk Diag and it said I had a few errors that I needed to fix in a safe mode. I did a restart with Command+R, ran Disk Diag again and after a few minutes of some work the utility said it fixed all problems and my disk was okay. However, as my Mac keeps locking up, it seems that this didn't solve the issue.
Is there any way to see what's going on exactly when my Mac locks up? Are there any log files or other means of checking what's exactly going wrong?
I suspect there might be a hardware problem (wither SSD failing or memory leaks), but it's better to be sure before I make any conclusions. I was planning to do a full restore of my Mac, but changed my mind for now – if there is indeed a way to make sure this is a hardware failure, not software, I don't see the point in reinstalling everything.
I will appreciate any help. Thanks!Anti virus software installed? Any apps such as MacKeeper or other third party cleaning utilities?
Make sure there's enough free storage space.
Control click the MacintoshHD icon on your desktop or open the Finder, right or control click startup disk in the Sidebar on the left then click Get Info.
You'll see Available and Capacity. Make sure there's at least 15% available disk space. -
Hello guys,
I really would appreciate your help with this problem that i'm facing on my Mac.
I have this Macbook Air 11", 1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Dup, 4 GB RAM DDR3, 128 SSD HD and Mac OS X Mountain Lion updated to the version 10.8.2.
I don't know what happens, but it suddenly crash/freezes.
It's happening very often - something around 3 or 4 times per day.
When it happens, the screen just go dark (sometimes white, red and even blue - it's so wired!), and then i have to hold down the power button, until it turns off. Then, i press it again and it turns on normally.
Everything works fine while it's on, but it's very annoying when i'm in the middle of some work and it crashes. I always loose something.
I would be glad if someone could help me.
Thank you very much!I,
Yes it could very well be if you have particularly an Intel MacBook Air it would shut down if it's overheating.
http://gigaom.com/apple/is-mountain-lion-too-hot-for-your-mac-to-handle/
Scroll down and read about overheating issues with Intel.
One of the things to do is feel the heat on the left underside when first turned on & compare a few hours later.
You can use Utilities, Activity monitor to see what is hogging memory & also which processes do a lot of IO read/writes. See if you have things auto loading in the background via System Preferences, User, Logon Items.
Is the fan noisy just before it shuts down? If it is and there is heat then something is overloading the CPU. It could be, believe it or not, an app that misbehaves. I had that with a Wundershare Video app. So think back to when this was not happening & if you know what apps you installed after that. Simply deinstalling sometimes works but if the app. changed some root content then you may need a clean install of the OS and carefully add apps a day at a time.
If the fan is NOT noisy but there is heat get thee to an Apple store because if the heatsink fan is broken that can wreck your MBA over time or pretty quickly.
I would in your shoes, if it is overheating get a laptop cooling stand or pad. I have a Logitech one with great speakers built in and two cooling fans.
Hopefully these tips help you diagnose.

Week Old MacBook Air - Random Kernel Panics - NEED HELP!
Specs : MacBook Air 11" - i7 - 8GB RAM - 256 SSD
I have had this laptop for a little over a week now and continuously keep having KPs, what seem to be random and not tied to any specific program, just seems to happen while I am download a file from the internet. Frustrating because I can not even download the update form 10.8.0 -> 10.8.2!!!
I have done the following:
-Reset PRAM
-Reset SMC
-Restored from SCRATCH
-Disconnected all peripherals
-Tested RAM with memtest (OK)
-Tested HDD with DiskUtility (OK)
I would just bring it back to an Apple store, but I live in the Dominican Republic and picked it up while I was passing through Miami.
Below is the log form the most recent KP.
Please help!

After doing an extensive Hardware Test, I believe that I found the culprit. Looks like my "brand new" Macbook Air came with a faulty hdd. Seems to me as if Apple is starting to cut corners and be the Apple of old... Using their image to demand premium price and maximize profit while progressively using cheaper and cheaper parts within their products.
1. You clearly have no understanding of statistics and failure rate. Even a company with the most efficient and best products will have a certain rate of failure (even some products arriving dead on arrival), regardless of how much they do or do not spend on components and quality control.
2. Apple doesn't manfacture the hard drives.
3. How do you know how much they spend on parts? -
Macbook air randomly shuts off and won't turn back on
I have a 2011 Macbook Air that was given to me by my sister. She told me about a year ago she spilled water on the keyboard and it stopped working for a while. She took it to apple and they told her it was going to cost 700 dollars to replace so she decided not to. After a while the laptop randomly turned back on and started working fine. I ended up getting it as a free gift and it was working perfectly fine for about a month and a half until recently it randomly shut off on me. After it shuts off, it wouldn't turn back on through pressing the power button I left it alone and after a day it randomly turned back on and worked like normal. After about 15 minutes of use it randomly shuts down and won't turn back on. I tried resetting SMC to no avail. It randomly turns on for about 15 minutes before it feels like it gets slightly hot and shuts off. Any help will be great!
Try running an Apple Hardware Test:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509
If you find you can't, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar. The evaluation will be free and then you should know what the problems are with your MBA.

Applications on my MacBook Air keep crashing
Hi,
I have a mid-2012 11-inch MacBook Air, with Mountain Lion installed and all software updated to the most recent versions.
Over the past few weeks, I've been dealing with an increasing number of crashes among open applications (Safari, Mail and Skype), whether they are active, in the background, hidden or minimised. Lately, whenever Safari crashes, it takes around a minute to start loading up web pages properly. I'm not sure how to fix this - I've tried running Disk Utility and it reports no problems. I have Avast! and it repoorts no infections (though more than a few warnings of corrupted files).
Any suggestions as to what could be causing this, or how I might get around to dealing with it?
-CI wasn't clear, I meant utilities such as menubar items or other types of add-on (SIMBL, for example.) The other thing to consider is that something is corrupted that is causing the crashes. Consider setting up a new user account with admin privileges. Log into this new account and see if the same crashes occur. If they don't, then there's a problem with one or more things in your normal user account - preference files, temporary files, cache files, for example.)
And, I can't urge you enough to uninstall the AV software. Avast should have an uninstaller to use. -
My MacBook Air (13" 2010) randomly logged out twice today.
The only new software is a Flash update.
Anyone experiencing anything similar?
Any suggestions?
DarinDdevore,
Console is located in the Utilities folder, which is inside the Applications folder. I've attached a screen shot of what I'm referring to for visual reference. The import thing is that you get the information that Console logged just prior to the logout occurring. -
Hi guys,
I have a 2010 model macbook air, and it is constantly crashing! I can be using the internet, photo editing software or waching a movie and I get the spinning beachball and have to reboot the machine. Once rebooted the problem will persist, usually crashing faster than the last time and keeps happening until I leave the mac for a while and can only do light tasks such as facebook, news etc. as anything heavier causes it to crash again.
It has already been in for a repair to apple a few weeks ago and they replaced the logic board citing fluctuating voltage to cpu. If that is the case then why is this still happening? When it was repaired before it got to the stage where it froze on the grey startup screen.
I have been through the basic ways of starting up in safe mode and resetting PRAM with no luck. I also cannot do software updates without it crashing
Can anyone offer any other advice?
many thanks

It has already been in for a repair to apple a few weeks ago and they replaced the logic board citing fluctuating voltage to cpu. If that is the case then why is this still happening? When it was repaired before it got to the stage where it froze on the grey startup screen.
I have been through the basic ways of starting up in safe mode and resetting PRAM with no luck. I also cannot do software updates without it crashing
Can anyone offer any other advice?
many thanks

Brand New MacBook Air Randomly Resetting (IMO WiFi Issue)
Good evening,
My problem is as follows:
I purchased a brand new Macbook Air last week and since the get go have been having issues while transferring large amounts of data over WIFI. The issue is that it seems when there is no activity (I leave the files transferring and have no interaction with the computer) and the files are transferring, some sort of error occurs and creates the system to panic and subsequently reboots.
I have contacted Apple, and they ran me through a few common procedures (Reset SMC, RAM, Disk Repair, etc...). On my own I also ran the Hardware Tool several times and the results was always the same (everything in perfectly working order). I also did a restore in the event that it may be some faulty system file, yet to no avail as the problem persists.
As per my title, I believe it has something to do with WiFi card, as I even disconnected all peripherals (USB Apple Keyboard & My Passport External HDD), yet again and as mentioned above the system continues to reboot without any apparent reason.
Below is a copy of the log, certain information has been changed such as UUID, but everything else is as is.
Could it be a hardware problem? As I am only seeing (as of now) this happen whenever I leave the computer and it is downloading a file.
