Macbook air's fan is running, but screen is black.

I spilled milk on the top right corner of my macbook air (beside the power button). I immediately wiped it off but I think some may have leaked inside. Now, the screen is fully black, but the fan is still running. Sometimes when I press random buttons, a "ding" sound pops up. I also tried plugging in the power source but there is no green light. I have a lot of useful information stored inside. Can anyone help please?!!

  • Imac G5 20" makes startup sound, and fan kicks in, but screen stays black

Hello. I have read the many similar postings and tried alot of ideas with no luck. Here are the specs on the model:
    G5 20"/2.0/512mb/250gb/Super/56k/BT/AP EMC2056 Model A1076
When you push the power button, you get the bootup sound, and the fan turns on. Then 30 seconds later, the fan goes into hyperdrive. The whole time the screen stays black. I have tried resetting the pram, get no sound then. I have tried the internal startup button below the fan housing, and it does NOT have the 2nd button there as it is an ambient light model. So I held the power button and plugged in the power cord, still nothing. When plugged in, the 1st green light lights up on logic board. When I hit the power, the 2nd green light lights up. I have tried an external monitor with the adapter plug and still no picture. I do not even hear the hardrive try to read. Could it be a power supply? What are the other 2 lights on the logic board for, as there are a total of 4? I have not tried to boot from a cd or change the battery yet. I don't know if there is a point in doing that, as the screen remains black. I cannot use a conventional pc power supply tester either. Any other ideas on this situation?

"Could it be a power supply?"
More than likely if everything else possible has been ruled out. Your model G5 had an extension repair program which has long expired for your exact issue. Shame you missed it.

You won't know if it will do any good until you at least give it try. You should also run Apple's Hardware Test from the Install DVD #1. The DVD label will tell you which key to boot up from to run the AHT.

  • Screen turns black, computer is running, but screen stays black...

Hi Everybody, i could do with your help...
I will try to discribe the problem,.. if the screensaver comes on after 15 minutes, and i try to wake the computer, the screen turns black, like it would when turned off... you can hear the computer is on and running, but nothing on the screen, touching the mouse pad, or any button on the keyboard will not wake the computer... if i than close the lid, i can see the little white light and when i reopen the lid.. nothing.. sometimes briefly like a millisecond or so, you can see the screen on, but than goes to black again....
    Any ideas??
it does not happen when working on the computer, only when it comes out of screensaver, or if left alone for longer than 30 minutes or so.... really strange...
    Anyway, your help is appreciated!!!

    Harry,
Did this just start happening after your update to 10.6.3? There is a thread over in the OSX Snow Leopard area about the backlight not coming back on after sleep that might interest you. Here is the link ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2384628&tstart=0 ).
    Hope this helps,

You can transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:

You can transfer other music to a computer by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:

  • Macbook air charges fine with the Thunderbolt screen connection but only sometimes with the 45 W chargers.

My Macbook air charges fine with the Thunderbolt screen connection but only sometimes with the 45 W chargers. It seems to be the combination of the chargers and the computer. I was thinking whether the Thunderbolt screen has a larger power supply which easier activates the computer to actually receive the charge. It reminds me a bit of the Nokia Lumia 800 telephone, which when totally exhausted needs a strong charger to be activated again. I am as frustrated as most others.  I have got two chargers, and both of them sometimes work, other times not. Sometimes, they start working after a while. Is Apple meanwhile coming up with a solution or advice how to handle such situation?

I just got my ATD and late 2011 MBP up and running. I've not tried running without the power adapter from the ATD plugged in, but I just tried and didn't have any problems with the display not waking. You may want to take your query to the ATD forum - https://discussions.apple.com/community/peripherals/thunderbolt_display - perhaps someone there has experienced a similar issue.
    Good luck,

  • MacBook Air loses connection to internet but not LAN

Hi, I am using a MacBook Air 11" (mid-2012) running OS X Mavericks (10.9.3). I'm connecting to my home LAN via WiFi connection to a TP-Link 300M Wireless router that is setup as a switch (per instructions here http://www.tp-link.com/en/article/?faqid=417), which in turn is connected via wire (ethernet-over-power) to a Technicolor cable modem/router provided by my ISP (UPC in the Netherlands; I can look up the model number of the router if needed, but it's two floors down right now and doesn't strike me that this is the cause of the problem).
I have a problem that my MacBook Air intermittently loses connectivity to the internet for extended periods (minutes) even though (a) the MacBook Air maintains full connectivity to my LAN at the same time through WiFi and (b) other computers connected to the cable modem/router maintain their connection to the internet while my MacBook Air has lost its connection.
My test to see where the breakdown is occurring is to have four terminal windows up and running ping processes:
    1) ping to 192.168.0.1 (my router) - this always stays live, with essentially no lost packets
    2) ping to an external address (I'm using 74.125.136.94, a google.nl address) - this is my main test for access to the internet and where I see ping failures (I'm also testing with pings to other sites when the problem is occurring to ensure it's not something on the remote end).
    3) ping to 192.168.0.13, which is a Synology NAS attached via ethernet cable to my main cable modem/router - this always stays live, with essentially no lost packets.
    4) a login to the Synology NAS, where I am also running a continual ping to 74.125.136.94, and this external ping does NOT fail when the one from my MacBook Air does, it stays live with essentially no lost packets.
The problem will usually correct itself after 1-3 minutes (though the time is not consistent), and also gets corrected if I turn the MacBook Air's WiFi off and on again.
Any suggestions for what I can do to stop this problem?
    Thanks
    John

    >     a. the Technicolor SSIDs, is the behavior the same (poziom-k testing shows that a second AP causes problems).
No. If connected to WiFI served by Technicolor, the problem does not occur (even if the other AP is connected to the network).
    >     b. can the Technicolor be replaced easily by an Airport Express/Extreme, to repeat this test?
Unfortunately, Technicolor in router mode is required by my ISP.
    > 2. Instead of WiFi, if the MBA is cabled to the secondary AP, is the behavior the same?
    Yes.
    > 3. Has Wireless RF interference been ruled out for dropped connections?
Yes. A Windows machine and several iOS mobile devices work flawlesly for me.
    > 4. If the MBA has a wired connection to the Technicolor, does the problem still exist?
No. The problem occurs only if connected through additional AP.
    > 5. Have packets been captured at each interesting point in the topology to see where are packets drops occurring? netstat -s is probably worth looking at > such points. Wireshark (or similar tools) can help.
Not yet. I will not have a chance to do it for the next few days though :/

  • HT5678 I get an error message when trying to actualise my MacBook Air. It is running OSX 10.8.3

I get an error message when trying to actualise my MacBook Air. It is running OSX 10.8.3. Exactly the same thing happens on my iMac24 !!

I'm having a similar problem. Using software update, iTunes 8.2 begins to download. It gets to about 41 megabytes and then times out. I get various error messages including that I'm not connected to the internet, and the directory didn't have the right permissions, etc.
I don't really use iTunes that much, but I use my iPhone ALL the time and would like to upgrade my iPhone software. Unfortunately, I have to have iTunes 8.2 to do that.
Is anyone from Apple listening?? There seem to be multiple posts about this problem. This is a very un-Mac-like problem.
    Thanks

If you have tried every relevant suggestion from How to Troubleshoot iSight but your camera is still not recognized anywhere in your System Profiler's USB Device Tree, you likely have a hardware problem.
Properly applying the Combo version of the latest update for your Mac OS can sometimes correct software problems, but, if your trouble is caused by a hardware problem, there are no user serviceable parts of the camera.  For hardware help, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service on your MacBook Air.

My MacBook Air is stuck on the login screen, each time I enter the password it stops (but does reject an incorrect password)

    Restore OS X.
If your Mac has v10.7, v10.8, or v10.9 installed, startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you can restore OS X using OS X Recovery
For OS X prior to v10.7, boot from your install disc while holding down the C key.

Thank you, but I followed all instructions to reset the SMC and it has not helped. Looks like I'll have to take it in to Apple for repair.
