Macbook air Safari close button issues

I got my new Macbook Air in Sep 2011. Recently when I use Safari, open multiple tabs the close button on them disappears. Also, the Command Q is not working either. I am not using it in full screen mode. Sometimes scroll bar also does not work in Safari.
Any suggestions how to fix this?
Thank you,
Shraddha

When I tried to open any application or Safari, all I get is the gray slate when you first turn on the MBA.
Are you running lion in full screen move?  If so, turn it off and see what happens.

My daughter's Macbook Air Safari (using Mac OS X 10.6.8) won't allow her to connect to Google, Yahoo and Facebook.  It will for some reason allow for Bing searches and connections to specific other websites.  The wifi seems to be connected fine.  We have done the "reset Safari" excercise and updated for the most recent software updates.  Also did the good old shut down and restart but no go.  Does anyone have any other suggestions or seen this problem before?
    Thanks!

There may be a redirect issue if an adware software has been
installed by accident or by intent; usually if someone goes to a
web site where questionable downloads of software are free,
there may be (included, added to) the packet you get, adware
    or perhaps even malware.
So, if this is the case, the symptoms you say are part of this

A way to help find some evidence of certain kinds of add-ons

if someone can spot some of the characteristics adware or
other malware may have included in the system.
There is another way to get a more lengthy report than etrecheck
as Linc Davis has posted, that uses more detailed effort on the
part of the user, in order to get a larger fuller report.

  • MacBook Air Safari doesn't work after ML update

After I updated my MacBook Air 2012 to Mountain Lion yesterday, Safari stopped working. It says it's connected but Safari won't open any page.
This is the third time it happens and I'm getting sick of it (SL, Lion OS and now ML)
I had to reset my iMac (PRAM) to get it back working again, but is there another suggestion?
    Thanks in advance.

Hey I just foud this on this forum. It's worth a try :-)
Also, are you able to ping the network. Go to Terminal and type the following:ping google.com
you should get something like this:
    Arnolds-MacBook-Air:~ arnieaz$ ping google.com

Jul 27, 2012 11:26 AM (in response to curvetr)
I had similar issues to the ones that seem to be plaguing people in this thread. However, I found a solution that worked for me, and will hopefully help you and some others!
System prefs > Network > Cog/gear button on the bottom left (sorry dont now what it's called) > Set service order.
If you find that the service order puts bluetooth ahead of Wifi, try switching Wifi up to the top spot. It worked for me. Let me know how it goes, hopefully it works!
    Best of luck, Chris

  • New MacBook Air: Safari can't open the page because the server where this page is located isn't responding

    Hi there,
I purchased a new MacBook Air on Sunday and am using OS X Yosemite 10.10.
Unfortunately since then I am having problems with connectivity with certain websites.  It is not just a problem with my MacBook Air, because I also have a MacBook and an iPhone which won't let me access those websites either with this network.  I haven't tried to access them from any other locations but I mainly use my devices at home so want to get this fixed.  I believe that it is a problem with my connection not the devices as other websites such as this, Facebook, twitter, google, etc all work fine.
I have checked on http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com and it's just me!
If relevant, the certain websites are futurelearn.com as well as bluehost.com and sites that run through bluehost.  I had problems with Bluehost not loading yesterday but Futurelearn was working absolutely fine yesterday - today I cannot access it at all.
Not sure what to do! Please help!
    Thanks in advance.

Restart your internet modem and router then try Safari.
And check the firewall. Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall.
If it's on, click Firewall Options
You may need to click the padlock icon bottom left side of the Firewall tab to proceed.
If restarting the modem and router don't help, try this DNS server.
Open System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS
    Click + and type:
    208.67.222.222
Click + again and do the same.
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
Quit then relaunch Safari to test.

  • Save and Close button issue in CRM 2013 for Activity Type Appointment

    Hi All,
Have come across a strange behavior in CRM 2013 and would like  to be sure that it really is an issue which others have encountered too.
Open a Case record, and click on Activity navigation link to see the Open Activity Associated View. Then try creating an Activity of type Meeting and click on
Save & Close button (not just Save). When you refresh the view, the activity might show up. But repeat the same steps and create another Activity of Type Meeting and this activity will not show up. It doesnt show up even in the All Activities
view. Seems like the activity does not get created when using Save and Close button.
This behavior is replicated even on online 30 day trial version. Any inputs?
    Regards,
    Yogesh

The problem only occurs when your appointment times clash.   "Save and close" just throws the appointment away.  "Save" tells you about clash (or perhaps it's just unavailability) and allows you to ignore and continue with the
    save.

  • MacBook Air/nvidia GeForce9400M/driver issue  font installation fails on xp

xp sp3 on a MacBook Air (bought 04-2009, 2x 1,86 GHz, 128 GB SSD) fails to install otf type fonts with an error message. Also Adobe Photoshop 10 (CS3) will crash upon trying to insert writing into a jpeg, tif, psd etc.
Source of problem: The nvidia graphic driver needs some more memory allocation than xp expects.
Remedy: open the registry editor (START>RUN>regedit)
    navigate to the following key:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\MemoryManagement
    add a new REG_DWORD Value
change the name of the value to
    SessionImageSize
    set its value (decimal) to
    20
    reboot
-- this problem would only seem to affect xp sp3 systems with nvidia graphics
-- be sure to backup your registry before changing it and
be sure to know what you are doing before editing the registry
Apparently this problem has been recognized by nvidia and implemented in their latest driver release. This is not suited, however, for Apple products, since they have further customized the nvidia driver (and apparently NOT included this fix!).
The fix will resolve the problems mentioned above with installing otf type fonts and inserting writing into pics in photoshop. Photoshop, however, continues to crash upon exiting, an issue not yet resolved.

    Hi and welocme to Discussions,
use the SafeBoot options of XP as described here http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B315222&x=10&y=11
Use Safe Mode (=Minimal) to startup XP with a minimal set of drivers and from there uninstall the not-working Nvidia drivers.
The reinstall the drivers that worked.
You might wanna tryout if 'Last Known Good Configuration' works.

  • MacBook Air 13" 2011 Bluetooth Issues

I recently upgraded from a MacBook late 2007 to a MacBook Air 13" 2011. Both systems were running Lion GM, and I transferred all my data from the old machine to new using the Migration Assistant that started on first boot on the new machine.
I'm having some weird issues with Bluetooth. I have a Magic Mouse, and when I open the Bluetooth Setup Assistant, it shows a list of Devices and Types, but all the devices show the Hardware ID (MAC address) only, not the device name (even for others like Printers/Smartphones). If I add the mouse from here, it works fine, but in the Bluetooth menu under devices it shows the MAC address of the device only instead of Apple Wireless Mouse, and it does not give me any battery information, just an option to disconnect.
The Bluetooth seems to have problems getting the names of any Bluetooth devices, and just shows everything by MAC address.
If I open the Bluetooth preferences, and I choose the mouse and go to Update Services it then shows it as an Apple Wireless Mouse but I still can't get any battery info. Also, after the computer reboots or if I disconnect/reconnect the mouse it again shows using the Bluetooth MAC address only. The Update Name option seems to have no effect.
Also, before doing the Update Services thing the computer doesn't even seem to know what type of device it is.

Wow, same problem - brand new, 2011 13" MacBook Air and also used migration assistant.
    Here's what I see:
    (1) Bluetooth Preferences - check box on (and I'm able to uncheck it), Discoverable box is dimmed and not checkable.
    (2) Discoverable box can be "auto-checked" if bluetooth sharing is turned on, but the Discoverable checkbox still remains dimmed.
    (3) All Bluetooth paired items (when I can get them to be paired) show up as hex addresses only - no names.
Called and talked with Apple Support - they suggested this:
    (1) reset PRAM and SMC - did that, no change
    (2) Then they suggested to create a new user and see if the bluetooth issues follow to the new user - they did.
    (3) So based on that, they suggested to boot (command-r) and re-install using the Recovery Option - I have not done that yet and I'm hesitant to do this because I believe that this will not fix the problem.
Some things I did that they did not suggest:
    (1) Ran Repair Disk Permissions - no change.
    (2) moved /var/root/Library/Preferences/blued.plist to something else and then restarted "blued" - no change.
For #2 - you'll need to do it this way - if you think this will make a difference:
    sudo mv -f /var/root/Library/Preferences/blued.plist /var/root/Library/Preferences/blued_bak.plist
    sudo killall blued
this will create a new blued.plist file - do this to see that:
    sudo ls -l /var/root/Library/Preferences
You should see your old backed up copy and the newly created one.

  • MacBook Air 11 2014 Wifi Issues After Sleep

I know that people have reported their wifi taking a long time to establish a connection after sleep.  I thought I would test my brand new MacBook Air 11 2014 by closing the lid for several hours to see what happens.  When I opened the lid, the wifi signal was full and not greyed out like other people have reported.  However, my internet was dead.  Could not connect to websites or find my iTunes library on my other Mac.  In order to get it working again I have to switch the wifi off, then back on again.  I'm not 100% sure why I am reporting this as it seems to be a big issue with Mavericks.  Its just the majority have reported the wifi logo being greyed out and taking a long time to find its corresponding network.

  • Macbook Air 2013(Haswell) fan issue?

    Hi Guys,
I've been having a weird issue with my Macbook air. I've noticed that it's been a little bit warmer than usual lately.
I downloaded iStat and upon watching a youtube video for 20 minutes my temps rise to 80-90 celcius. However, my fan speed never goes about 2000rpm. I tried setting the fan speed manually to check if there was an issue with the fan itself and it happily increases to around 6000rpm. Should my fan speed be compensating more for the heat at 80-90 celcius than it is? It's running 60 celsius on idle...
    Thanks for your help guys!

    Try a SMC reset:

If there is no change, bring the MBA in for service.
    Ciao.

  • Close Button Issue

    Hi Friends,
    My Project has two application......
    Second application have close button
Now i run second application means close button is worked...
if i run from main page(first application) its not working.....
    Pleasse tel me.....
What is the problem how will we resolve....
    Thanks & regards
    Mathi

Mathi I have sent you reply in your maill please check..
See Mathi, what is actually happening is that you are navigating to 2nd application from 1st application  and according to the logic of close function( that you used previously) it always tries to close tyour 1st application from which you navigated to the 2nd application. So what will be best is that instead of using close function methodology you put your 2nd view in a second window and 1st view in another window.. Now if you want to close the 2nd window and get back to 1st window then just destroy the instance of the 2nd window and get back to the 1st one... I have already used this technique in the application I sent to you...
    Thanks and Regards

  • 10.5.4 freezes my MacBook Air - Safari

    Hi Guys,
after updating my OS to 10.5.4 my Air is so slow that it is not usable anymore. After some playing around it seems that Safari is the problem. When using Firefox 3.0 Mac OS X has the same level of speed as before the upgrade.
Now of course i want to use Safari 3.x. Any ideas anyboday ?
    Thanks, Markus

    beesleep wrote:
looks like the 10.5.2 update was just highly highly coincidental. definitely seems odd the logic board would die at the exact instant of a restart from installing 10.5.2.
When a light bulb files, it's usually fails when it is turned on. Ditto for most electronic devices. Whether it's a surge or whatever, it's probably true that your logic board would have failed when you started the computer up for whatever reason. There is no evidence that software can damage hardware directly, or at least instantly. Besides, the update should not have any effect on the computer until the boot process is well under way.
Bad software might cause a computer to overheat, etc., but not to damage a component on boot.

  • MacBook Air Mid '11 Fan Issue

This morning, I downloaded SMC Fan Control because my mac was running really hot after running Skype and some other programs at once.
I decided I didn't want it, so I uninstalled it, and it said the fans would return to normal.
After restarting my computer several times, and then shutting it down and turning it back on, I noticed the CPU would be hitting 190-200 Degrees Farinheit and the fans would still be running @ 2,000RPM.
I'm worried I did something to it and I don't know how to fix it.

AppleCare/warranty is applicable for the first year, and is extended to three years if you buy an extension plan.
This case does bring up an intereresting point though. Would installation of a application which performs in this manner affect the warranty?
I would think that Apple would have a problem covering a hardware/firmware issue caused by an unruly program designed to obviate the built in control mechanisms of the computer.

  • Brand new Macbook Air 11 - Updates install issue

Just purchased MBA 11 2.0 8GB 256GB and so far I'm getting frustrated.
First off I'm surprised it doesn't come with Mountain Lion installed and second I can't do the system updates to take it from OSX 10.7.4 to 10.7.5.
The download isn't the issue, it runs and unexpected error each of the 3 times I've tried it.
Again the downloand happens with no issues, it's when I go to install the updates that the "unexpected error" occurs.
Apple care is closed, please help. I need to use this Sunday evening to get this done as I have a full work schedule.
    Thanks in advance!

If the problem is happening during the installation, then it could be related to errant permissions.
Repair your disk permissions, and verify/repair your startup drive. To do all of these, you can't be booted to the drive you wish to repair (unless you are only doing a permissions repair).
Boot to the recovery partition, by holding down the OPTION key, whilst booting to invoke Boot Manager. Choose the Recovery drive from the list of boot drives, then permit to boot. Open Disk Utility, then highlight the main startup drive, and then select "repair permissions" under the First Aid tab. After completeion, select "verify disk" and run the check. Lastly, (if Verify Disk reports any poblems, run "repair disk". Exit, shutdown and reboot normally. Retry your update.
This procedure is one that many people follow before any system updates. When one forgets to do so, it can often lead to permission related stalls during an update.
