Macbook Air second thoughts. PLEASE RESPOND.

I just recently purchased a MBA '11 64 GB, so far I love it but I'm scared about the storage. I'm a college freshman and I'll be using it mainly for papers and maybe powerpoints and of course web browsing, twitter, facebook, and a little recreational use. Am I good on storage or did i make a bad decision? Please someone respond, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'll be using it mainly for papers and maybe powerpoints and of course web browsing, twitter, facebook, and a little recreational use.
You will never fill up the internal drive with papers and such. What will fill it up is a large media collection: music, photos, and video, or a large collection of software such as games. Media files can be stored on an external drive, but of course, you have access to them only when the drive is attached. Games and other software generally have to be stored on the internal drive.

My Macbook Air broke. Please help me, Russian Apple Customer Support don't want help me. I'm in despair.
Hi, I bought my MacBook Air  in your store. In the summer of 2012. My mac is included in the program MacBook Air Flash Storage Drive Replacement Program. I live in Russia. I called the Russian support Apple. They told me to bring mac to an authorized service center. An authorized service center I was told to wait 45 days of the new flash storage drive. It's very long for me. I can `t wait long. I work on a Mac. I do not have another computer. Russian support Аpple does not want to help me. Can you help me? Serial number my MacBook Air : c0*******rvc

Leaving you without a computer for 45 days isn't acceptable. Call Apple and ask for a loaner or replacement. Some people have been receiving them.
If you still have no luck, then consider getting a USB 3.0 HDD and installing and running OS X on it until the replacement part is in.

  • Mid 2013 macbook air keyboard/trackpad stop responding

    I have a mid-2013 13" Macbook Air - 512GB SSD, 8GB RAM - 1.7Ghz i7
I spend a good deal of time working at my home, where I have two external monitors (one via USB, one via the thunderbolt port) and a bluetooth wireless mouse and keyboard.  Things are great.
I also go on the road, and when I do, I simply unplug my monitors, close the lid, and go.
Lately, I've had some very odd behavior happen which acts a lot like what is described in the latest 13" Macbook Pro Retina EFI fix:  http://www.macrumors.com/2013/11/07/apple-releases-fix-for-13-inch-retina-macboo k-pro-keyboardtrackpad-issues/
Here's what happens....when I'm traveling and away from my bluetooth keyboard/mouse, I will open up my MBA and the trackpad and internal keyboard are unresponsive.  I can press the power button and get it to turn off...power it back on and am able to use the keyboard to control various boot options (diagnostics, single-user, safe-mode, recovery model, etc).  Booting up full, however, the issue will still exist.  Looking at the console log, when this is happening, there are a ton (about 4000 every minute) of the following :
11/1/13 7:45:26.000 PM kernel[0]: Error: AppleHSSPIController::doSPITransfer CRC from device was invalid
11/1/13 7:45:26.000 PM kernel[0]: Error: AppleHSSPIController::InterruptOccurred Failed to transfer interrupt data with Err (0xe00002eb)
Eventually, something happens and things start to work -- I will generally see the following in the console log when it starts working:
    11/1/13 7:45:27.000 PM kernel[0]: Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad::start Start Succeeded
If I let the machine sit at the unlock screen, eventually a dialog comes up and says "unable to find external bluetooth keyboard/mouse..."  It says it will continue to search and will pair with one eventually....it's the same message I would get from my mac mini if it couldn't find the bluetooth keyboard (and has no internal/hardwired keyboard).
When it is happening, I can use "cmd-r" to boot into recovery mode and recovery mode will complain about not having a mouse/trackpad - yet the keyboard seems to work to control what happens at boot time.
I called Apple and got sent to the apple store with a "it sounds like a faulty logic board or a connection that needs soldering".  The Apple Store "genius" didn't quite think that was the case and has instead suggested I re-install the operating system.  I'm non-plussed by both suggestions. This has happened both before and after Mavericks...
On one of my latest trips, I had a case where I took my laptop out on the plane to try to use it...only to have this issue occur.  I landed, got to the hotel, tried again and everything worked fine.  Went to dinner - leaving my laptop on the desk plugged in - only to come back to have the keyboard unresponsive....  I've now resorted to traveling with my bluetooth keyboard and mouse "just in case".
    Any ideas/thoughts?

I will open up my MBA and the trackpad and internal keyboard are unresponsive.
Do four things to test for fault on this,
    reset SMC ,
    reset NVRAM,
uncheck "put hard disks to sleep"
and UNPAIR both your bluetooth mouse and keyboard from this Mac that you are using with it currently.
yes, the notion that your logic board is at fault is extremely unlikely, additionally (though far more likely) that your Mavericks OS is corrupt.
    RESET SMC
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
    RESET NVRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
Lastly, go into SYS PREFERENCES > ENERGY > uncheck "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" in both tabs.
Let your Mac go into sleep or close the lid for a few mins. and reopen and verify that your trackpad and mouse are fine.  They should be after this,.........
If not contact Apple for full in shop diagnostic, theyll run a hardware test (unlikely causation) and reinstall the OS, then retest and LASTLY replace the logic board (very unlikely).

  • Yosemite made my macbook air slow. Please help.

Hello, my computer has been almost unusable for the past few weeks, I'm quite sure since I installed Yosemite. I read on another thread that I should run EtreCheck and start my own discussion. Here are the results, please help
    Problem description:
I installed Yosemite and now my  computer is crawling, the fan goes on for long periods and gets overheated. My hard drive was full but I migrated many of my files to dropbox and made sure to only selective sync files that were necessary on a regular basis.

  • HT4399 I purchased my Macbook Air second hand, didn't get a software reinstall drive. Where can I purchase one?

How do I tell which version Macbook Air I own??? Can't tell the date manufactured anywhere..../?????

The last MacBook Air to contain a physical reinstallation disk/drive was the 2010 model, which came with a USB flash drive. Subsequent models utilize the built-in Recovery Partition, along with Internet Recovery to enable the user to reinstall the original OS.
If yours is a 2010 model, then you should go through Technical Support to order a replacement drive. It is treated much the same way as if you were ordering a replacement part for your unit.
If you consult an application called MacTracker, you can compare your model as shown in "About this Mac" in the Apple menu, the database in Mactracker to obtain your model# and generation type.

  • 3rd Macbook Air ALREADY! PLEASE HELP APPLE FOLKS!

so im watching some clips on my macbook air with my apple headphones plugged into the audio jack. I noticed that there was an annoying high pitch ringing noise and it wouldn't stop. I would mute the sound on the MBA and unmute it and it would stop. Then i would load up more clips and it would do it some more! Im wondering if i need to call apple about this? Someone Reply Thanks so much
    -Cody

I would first check your earphones in another PC or media device to make sure they are not the issue. I would then make sure that the earphone jack is seated all the way into the MBA. The port is not recessed (so to say), but there is a "lip" on the drop down drawer. I use an extension and it works great and allows for a USB device to fit as well.
If that does not work, call Apple.

  • I am getting a content protected error that won't allow my downloaded HD content from iTunes to play on my macbook air!  help, please

I am getting a content protected error that won't allow my downloaded HD content from iTunes to play on my macbook air!  help, please

This may seem obvious, but presumably you have authorized the MacBook Air in iTunes?

  • I can't log onto my MacBook air, onboard keyboard not responding

I have not been able to log onto my Macbook air 2010, the keyboard will not type the top row of letters.
    No liquid spills involved...
I have resored from time machine and still no joy.
I also cannot exit OSX recovery after validating he HD is ok
Thank you for any help you may offer!

Check that the shift keys are working - it's not uncommon for one to get stuck (happens with other keys, too).
Try teasing the key upwards with the corners of a couple of credit cards or similar flexible, non-conducting tools.

  • Macbook air (late 2009) not responding

It started in january. At first erasing and doing a clean install solved it for a month or two. Now nothing works. It takes forever to boot and once it does nothing works. I get the spinning ball everytime I click for something to open. I managed to run all the tests possible. It says hard drive is ok and when trying to repair permissions I get a long list of "error 5 input/output".
Any ideas? This is the computer I use daily. I'm afraid that it'll be a matter of the computer not being designed for such an intense usage.
    HELP PLEASE!!!!

I'm currently trying to repair permissions with the install CD and I'm getting a very long list of "open error 5: input/output error in system/library/frameworks/screensaver.framework......"
Does it mean my HD is dead or in the process if doing so?
SMART status says verified and I've managed to run Onyx to restore a few things. What I haven't been able to do is verify the disc with Onyx. I'll try with the install CD and see if there's any luck.
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.

  • Bought Macbook Air second hand, still under guarentee but already registed to someone else.  How do I change to me?

Cannot find the link to contact support Every time I put the serial number in it says it's already registered

Just call AppleCare directly and provide them the serial number. They may have to manually register it to you.

  • Hi, Please does anyone know of good Apps on MacBook Air for children with Down Syndrome for learning? - Many thanks :)

Hi, have bought a MacBook Air second hand which is wonderful, but learning apps for children (especially those with extra learning difficulty) seem to be only accessible on Ipads..... grrr!.... Please has anyone found any good ones on their MacBook air?  Thanking you for any help...

I'm not current in what's out there, and, depending upon the developmental age of your child it would be hard to offer something suitable. However if there are elementary schools in your area who use Apple Computers their Assistive Technology department/specialist or Special Education Department/specialist should be able and willing to help you.
I suggest you contact the public schools near you... you might even qualify for an educators discount on software you buy.

Please help me resolve my issue with macbook air adaptor.
    Please help.
    Thanks
    Jan

The power adaptor will always get a little warm or even hot during use.
How hot did it get? Was it smoking, melting, or discoloring?
If not, then that little bit of heat is usual and you shouldn't worry about it too much.
    Hope this helps,

  • Boot MacBook Air from remote CD?

I just bought a MacBook Air second hand and Verified Disk Permissions to see if anything was wrong, there is. Now, it works fine, I only need it for light work, but it recommends that I boot from the install CDs, which I have... but I need one of those external Optical Drives.
Now, I do have an iMac and I seem to recall that there was some software that came out that would allow a wireless connection but am not sure if that will work when booting from the CD, my suspicions are that it will not. It's my day off and I only get one so I do not want to spend the whole day trying to figure this out, of course I could have tried it but I thought that reaching out to the community might be best.
    Any ideas please?

It is my understanding that the pre-Lion-OSX was on a USB drive rather than CDs:

  • HOWTO: Make Virtual WiFi work in Windows 7 for MacBook Air (Late 2010)

I just spent several hours figuring out what is a bug in the Broadcom WiFi drivers for my new MacBook Air, and thought I would post how I fixed it for others until Apple can get Broadcom to fix their drivers.
    Virtual WiFi:
First, what is Virtual WiFi. Virtual WiFi is a feature in Windows 7 that allows a single WiFi adapter in a computer to look like more than one adapter. The most common use for this is for software like Connectify that allows you to use your laptop as a wireless access point (AP) when you travel. For example, you might settle into a hotel room, pay for an Internet connection for your MacBook, and then want to share that connection with your iPhone, iPad, and other devices. For Virtual WiFi to work, the WiFi drivers for your WiFi hardware need to indicate that they support the feature, and then in Device Manager in Windows Control Panel, under Network Adapters you will see the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" listed. Notably, this adapter was missing after installing Windows 7 and BootCamp 3.1 on my MacBook Air (Late 2010).
    Why it Doesn't Work:
The strange thing is, this was working fine on my wife's MacBook from 2008, with similar Broadcom WiFi hardware. It turns out that whoever made the Broadcom driver file made a small copy-and-paste error, and neglected to support Virtual WiFi for the slightly different chip that is in the MacBook Air versus the MacBook. By fixing the driver file, the issue can be fixed. The problem is right here in the file, which we'll get to more below:
    %BCM430N_DeviceDesc% = BCM43XNM_NT61, PCI\VEN14E4&DEV432b
    %BCM430N_DeviceDesc% = BCM43XNG_NT61, PCI\VEN14E4&DEV432c
    %BCM430N_DeviceDesc% = BCM43XNM_NT60, PCI\VEN14E4&DEV4353
My wife's MacBook uses the first line with DEV_432b at the end. Note that it uses the installation section BCM43XNM_NT61 which refers to Windows 7 and correctly installs Virtual WiFi. The newest MacBook Air uses the last line with DEV_4353 at the end (a slightly different chip). Note that it incorrectly refers to the installation section BCM43XNM_NT60, which is Windows Vista with no support for Virtual WiFi.
    How to Fix It:
    1) You first need to extract the Broadcom drivers that are in the latest version of BootCamp so that you can modify the INF file. To do this, I followed all of the instructions in the BootCamp Assistant from Mac OS X on my MacBook Air to download the WindowsSupport folder with BootCamp drivers, which you can save to the hard drive or burn to a CD. Once you have this, open the folder "Boot Camp\Drivers\Broadcom". We need to extract the file BroadcomNetworkAdapterWin7_32.exe or BroadcomNetworkAdapterWin7_64.exe depending on whether you are using a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows 7. I was able to do this with WinRAR installed, by right-clicking and selecting to extract the file to a folder.
    2) In the folder from the last step, there are 31 files on my installation, but the one we want is bcmwl6.inf. If you open that file the first two sections (BROADCOM.NTamd64.6.1 and BROADCOM.NTx86.6.1) are the ones with the error as reproduced above. The first section is for 64-bit installations, and the second section is for 32-bit installations.
    3) Modify the last line of each section to change BCM43XNM_NT60 to BCM43XNM_NT61, and save the file.
    4) Now we need to install the driver from this folder onto the MacBook Air. I did this by opening Device Manager from Control Panel, right-clicking the "Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter" under Network Adapters, and selecting "Uninstall" followed by "Update Driver Software". Point the update dialog to the folder where you modified the driver, and let it install.
    5) Note that because the INF file is modified the driver is no longer correctly signed. You will see a warning to this effect, and you should select to install the driver anyway.
    6) You should now see the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" in Device Manager, and software like Connectify should work to share your WiFi connection.
Hopefully Apple will fix this the correct way soon, by getting Broadcom to fix their driver and updating BootCamp to include it. At the time of this writing, the Broadcom driver version is 5.100.57.8 so anything later than that may be fixed.
    Good Luck!

That is one heck of a post for a newcomer here. Your instructions worked like a charm, with one exception:
When uninstalling the Broadcom Device, I had to check the box to delete the driver, and then had to scan for new hardware to get the device to show back up. Then I was able to load the edited driver software.
I am not complaining, but very grateful, as I was pulling my hair out on this one.
