Macbook air shuts down when unplugged
Hi,
My macbook air is just 2 months old. Since yesterday my laptop shuts down when unplugged. And the time settings changes and I have to reset the time again everytime i switch it on. I tried reseting the system using time machine. Even that didnt work. Please tell me how to solve this.
Thanks
Shahzad
Hi shafi.shahzad,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your new MacBook Air. Based on your description (issues with power management/charging, not retaining time settings, etc), you may want to try resetting your System Management Controller (SMC) and PRAM, as outlined in the following articles:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support
OS X Yosemite: Reset your computer’s PRAM

My MacBook Air shuts down when its more than half way charged and won't turn on unless I plug it in to the adapter? Why is this happening and how can I fix it?
If you really do have a Mid 2013 Mac Air model then it is still in warranty, as the standard Apple warranty is one year from date of purchase. So take it into an Apple store and have it diagnosed and fixed under the warranty. There is some type of hardware problem that only Apple can fix.

MacBook Pro shuts down when unplugged
I have a late 2008 MacBook Pro work computer. Here's the sequence of events:
I fully charge the battery
I unplug the Mac from the power cable
The Mac immediately shuts down
Before unplugging the Mac, I press the battery power indicator button and all lights are green. When I unplug the Mac I press the indicator button again and only one light is green.
I've tried resetting the PRAM, SMC and even bought a new battery but the problem persists. Here is the System Information.
How can I get my MacBook Pro to stay powered on when not plugged in?Hi Ryan,

System Profiler shows you have 195 cycles on this batt and says "Service Battery" so I'm not sure if that's the old batt or you bought a used one, but either way, it looks like that batt is nearly dead. If you have a new/different batt, install it, give it a full charge, and post System Profiler info for that one.
Also, have you tried different power adapter and/or tried your power adapter on a different MBP? -
My MacBook air shuts down when Apple logo appears
Hey. My MacBook started to run slow and I forced a shut down and now when I try to start the mac, everytime it shuts down when the apple logo appears.
What can I do and i also haven't backed up any of my files and I really need that stuff. If you really do have a Mid 2013 Mac Air model then it is still in warranty, as the standard Apple warranty is one year from date of purchase. MacBook Air shuts down when I close it
Whenever I close my MacBook, it shuts down instead of going into sleep mode. At first, I thought it was a problem with my MacBook not waking up from sleep at all, but if I use the Sleep function from the drop down menu, it will wake up normally.
I've looked around the community to see if anyone had a similar issue, but most people say they need to reboot it to start it up again, which isn't my case at all. It just does a typical shut down. How do I make it go to sleep instead of shutting down when I close it?Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
bzgrep 'Previous Shutdown' /var/log/system.log*
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
Post any lines of output that appear below what you entered — the text, please, not a screenshot. -
Macbook Air Shutting down when power is removed
Helping my friend troubleshoot his Macbook Air, purchased summer 2014. He said it was a pain to get it to turn on, and I advised him against taking it to our university's help desk (If you can really call it even that).
I have reset the NVRAM, PRAM, and SMC. I did an Apple Diagnostics Test three times, twice plugged in and once unplugged. Got ADP000 when plugged in and PPP007 when running on battery.
When plugged in it does not shut down, however when unplugged it'll stay on 10-20 seconds before crashing. The first time I did the diagnostic test it shutdown before the test could be completed, the second time however was the longest it had stayed on before crashing maybe 30-40 seconds before I restarted to test while plugged in.
I believe they only option left is to take it to an Apple Store, we are both from an area with an Apple store that is close however it is currently about 2-3 hours away from our campus.
On a side note, I think there was some sort of malware/adware on it. The homepage in chrome and safari just didn't look right so I changed them to Google, and it got changed back to the odd looking one. The url said something like search.searchbenny - He also had kaspersky internet security installed, but it was expired or something. I don't think this could be causing the issue but I thought it was worth mentioning. If you click on the Apple menu's, "About This Mac," and then click on "System Report....," it will give a battery condition report. Best guess, as stated by Kappy, is that the battery needs to be replaced.
If he bought in the summer of 2014, it should still be under warranty. -
MacBook automatically shuts down, when unplugging the powercord!
My battery is %61 healthy. Today it started to shut down automatically when I unplug the powercord. I don't know what to do. I tried everything like resetting PRAM, PMU etc. But no change. The battery is now fully charged. But whenever it is unplugged from the powercord it shuts down (even if it is working). Please help!
hi Eren,
Quite a wordy post i know I have no help for you Im afraid but find this helps to talk to someone experiencing the same problems as i am very pi**ed with this.
Im having exactly the same problem as you, and just as annoyed. As you start up your macbook, with the AC adapter unplugged, does it make the 6 mechanical whirring sounds that it usually does when starting / waking up and then just cut out instantly. My battery is now 100% charged as this problem has been ongoing for the past couple of days. It has 80% health, which i think is perfectly reasonable, but obviously my mac doesn't like it. As im sure you have done, i have downloaded the apple battery patch and completed the battery configuration that apple recommends you do regularly, but to no avail. During this time my dock has also had problems as it has 'reset' itself to the factory default but cannot find some programs - highlighted by the dreaded semitransparent, grey question mark. As well as this on startup ( with the power cord inserted - of course! ) the 'finder' window decides to automatically open............. -
My MacBook Pro shuts down when unplugged, even though fully charged. why?
I keep my computer plugged in 99% of the time, but when I use it unplugged, it only works for a couple of minutes before it shuts down & won't come back on until I plug it back in. When I do, the battery is above 90% charged. Why does it shut down?

Problem description:
Mid-2013 Macbook Air 13 inch. Shuts down when unplugged from power adapter. It 1st started just shutting down intermittently on battery power. Sometimes when it powers back-up on the battery power only the fan would be blowing hard. But it is now at the point that if it is not connected to the power adapter it will not come on. I have tried resetting SMC and PRAM but to no avail. The battery is showing 100% charge with only 137 battery cycle count.

I was able to restore to Yosemite. Here is the result of the latest estrecheck and battery info:

At this point, the computer works fine with the adapter plugged in, light remains orange, the battery is not being charged. I believe the computer will still turn off once I unplugged the adapter from the computer although the battery is supposedly 88% charged.
If this is a hardware problem I hope it's just the battery. I believe that's the next step I have to take. Unless anyone has any other ideas. -
My MacBook Air shut down is slower than other macs I have seen
I think this is due to the recent Mac OS 10.8.2 update
My MacBook Air shuts down slower than usual. It will get slow and show a white screen with a spinining wheel taking up to 15 seconds.
This is longer than the startup time.
When it was new, I think it was running Mac OS 10.8.1. Shutdown was super speedy and took maybe just 3 seconds. It then asked me to update, so I obviously did, since I thought new improvments were made.
So how can I get rid of this slow shut down timings? You might try resetting the SMC. If that does not work, take it in for service (you are under warranty).

My macbook wont shut down when I close lid, how do I prevent this?
This had happened before and I seem to recall having to disable blue tooth.
Is this correct?
CharlesIt's not suppose to shut down when closing the lid, it's supposed to sleep.

Macbook only shuts down when battery is flat and date and time revert to 2008
Hey Guys
My Macbook only shuts down when the battery goes flat.
When I switch it back on everything seems to be fine though the date and time are incorrect. Seems to go to default date which is 2008.
Other things seem to affect my browser, Facebook won't login properly and certain websites seem to propmt that the website can't be trusted, which is strange because gmail is one of them and should be fine.
Appreciate all the help from you cyber friendly folks!
My system specs

MAC OS X Version 10.6.8To answer your questions in sequence:
1) You can't, really: the symptoms your Mac is exhibiting point at a loose or next-to-dead back-up battery. Only way to find out is to test it, and to do that, you must open your machine, locate the battery and test it with a battery tester (see here for more info on how to open your Mac; make sure to select the right model)
2) It's actually the opposite: when you must use your Mac on the battery, well, then, do it, but if you're sitting at your desk, or, like me, on your sofa, with your MBP on your lap, simply keep it plugged into the main.
An additional measure to preserve your battery, that applies less to the recent Unibody design, but is helpful for ealier adopters of the MacBook Pro: don't leave your machine plugged in when it's turned off; it prevents a slow, natural depletion of the battery, and will play against you in the long run.
Last but not least: battery calibration is required once a month for older MacBook Pro models (non-Unibody, basically). If your machine belongs to that era kids the age of Justin B. don't even imagine ever existed, check here. -
MacBook Pro shuts down when i close the lid
Hey,
My MacBook Pro shuts down when i close the lid.
It started to do this one or two times, but now it is every time.
I have the latest battery update, so this should not be the issue here..
Any sugestions??
I have started to suspect the it might be some faulty conecctions or somthing..If it's unable to go into the proper sleep state for some reason then it will do that.
Run /Utilities/Console and click 'All Messages' top left then close the lid, wait a minute then open it again - if it's shut down then reboot and open Console again and check the latest log lines looking for 'sleepimage' - it should give you an indication of what happened/didn't. If you're not sure what it all means post _just those lines_ here.

I have gotten drag and drop working with Swing in JDK 1.4b2 using "URL-based" files instead of operating system native files. The way this was accomplished by creating a wrapper class that sub-classed File and would download the contents of the URL t
