MacBook Air slow to reconnect with wifi

We just got a new 13" macbook air and it's very slow reconnecting to wifi when it's opened on and off during the day. Every other mac that we have is instantly or stays connected and we're off to the races when we need to email, etc. Shouldn't the AIR (latest model as of july 2013) work as well or better than all our older macs?

Hi, Richard.
Sometimes a simple power cycle of the router can correct the issue that you are experiencing.  However, the issue could be a little more complex.  Wi-Fi routers need adjustments to settings periodically for optimized performance with the constant progression of wireless device technology.  Below, I have included two articles.  The first article will cover basic Wi-Fi troubleshooting.  The second article covers the recommended settings for current Wi-Fi access points.

My wife has a MacBook Air that is currently running Lion. However, it's original 80 Gig 4800 rpm hard drive was replaced with a SSD from OWC. It's performance with Lion is acceptable.
If your MacBook Air had the optional SSD, you may also find that the Lion performance will be acceptable.
You should make an external hard drive backup before uprading. You could also do a trial install of Lion on the external beforehand.

It is true that older software written for the PowerPC platform will not run in Lion, as Rosetta is not available. However, there are increasingly newer versions of software that won't run in Snow Leopard. See: http://roaringapps.com/apps?index=a

  • Can I use my Macbook Air 13" mid 2013 with plugging charger even at 100 % battery full charge?

I can't decide whether using My Macbook Air 13" mid 2013 with charging power adapter connected even though it is fully charged Or using Macbook Air with unplugging charger after fully charged. Please advice me to maintain my Macbook's battery at good condition.

It will not hurt it as long as you do not leave it on the charger for an extensive period of time (say, days).

  • My new macbook air is not synching with my iPod classic anymore

any ideas on why my new macbook air is not synching with my iPod classic anymore?  It used to just show up on iTunes but it's not there now

iTunes will only transfer music from the iPhone that were bought at Apple's iTunes store. You'll need to use a third party program such as Senuti to transfer music you got from other sources.

  • HT3964 my macbook air keeps coming up with a message" are u sure u want to shut down..etc" after which it switches off by itself. now it's off and will not power on altogether. any suggestions?

Does it power on if you plug in the charger?
But to be honest I see in your description it says 'Late 2011' so there is a good chance you have warranty right, I would take it to Apple store and let them sort it out

  • Any way to share MacBook Air's external SuperDrive with PC?

Not really sure if this is the right spot to put this question but I couldn't really think of a better one. Here's my problem: I've got a PC which I need to run the backup disc creator on. Unfortunately, the optical drive on my PC doesn't work. My question is whether or not it's possible to share my MacBook Air's SuperDrive through my wifi connection. I know it's possible to utilize a PC's optical drive on a computer running OS X but does it work the other way around? Any answers would be greatly appreciated

System Preferences / Sharing, then check CD/DVD sharing. If you want to share files, check that area too, then—under Options—also check SMB protocol.

  • How to send a video from  a macbook air to a tv with dnla

how to send a video from  a macbook air to a tv with dnla ?without apple tv
macbook air with os mountain lion
    thank you

Do you have an Apple TV.  In which case AirPlay or if your Mac is too old, Eric Root's AirParrot suggestion.
If no Apple TV, then a miniDisplay Port to HDMI adaptor and an HDMI cable  (a Thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor is really the same as a miniDisplay Port to HDMI adaptor).

I've been given a Macbook Air as a gift (with OS 10.7.5). Garageband is missing and I can't dl the app store version because apparently my OS is too old. Help??

Try to by an iLife '11  installation DVD - perhaps you can find it at Amazon or eBay.
Or try to update the MacOS X version of your MacBook Air to MacOS X 10.9 Mavericks. If your  MBA qualifies for the Mavericks update, you should be able to buy GarageBand 10.0 from he AppStore.

  • My Macbook Air does not pick up wifi from Airport but iMac, iPad and iPhone do. Help please.

My Macbook Air does not pick up wifi from Airport but iMac, iPad and iPhone do. Help please.

Are you testing in the same room as the TC?
Power cycle the TC.. does it show up now?
Has it ever showed up .. ie is this a problem that just started from an existing setup, or has never worked?
Is the TC new? If old how old?
If you continue to have issues.. setup the TC from iMac and preferably using ethernet.
Change the wireless names to SMB compatible ones, short no spaces, pure alphanumeric.
    Use WPA2 Personal security only.
Then set the wireless channels manually.. try 11, 6, 1 for 2.4ghz and try 36 or 40 at 5ghz.
    Tell us how that goes.
