Macbook air ssd problem
I have a 2011 mabook air 13 in core i5 with a 256 ssd my problem is when i tried to install windows 7 i failed about 3 or 4 times so it created a partition on my ssd after removing them and giving up on windows 7 i was checking if i had anough room to install some apps but when checking my mac shows 250.14GB and lost from its original 256GB plz help i would like to restore the missing GB's
Your SSD may be spec'd at 256Gb, but in fact the actual capacity is 250.14GB.
This capacity has nothing to do with your attempts to install Windows 7, my mid-2012 MBA has always had the exact SSD capacity as yours. So what you are seeing is completely normal.

My MacBook Air has problems connecting to a saved network when I first open it.
My MacBook Air has problems connecting to a saved network when I first open it. When it idles, the connection gets lost and even clicking on the network won't connect it. Then I have to turn off wireless and turn it back on for it to connect. My boyfriend's MacBook Pro does not have this same problem and this problem started maybe 2 months ago and nothing about our internet or router has changed, and its only my computer having the problem. Its a 2013 MacBook Air and my softward is: OS X 10.9.1 (13B42). Please help!
Hello, nheredia05.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
There are a couple steps that I could recommend trying. Power cycle the router and test to see if the behavior persists. Next, try an remove this prefered network from your list and then add it back again. Make sure all firmware updates have been processed on the router side and the settings have been optimized for performance. If the issue still persists try the steps in the second article.

Has your Macbook Air overheating problems been solved?
Hi All,
Has there been a solution to the Macbook Air overheating problem for you?
I'm considering selling my MBA but want to see first if there has been any new updates on this issue.
I have a Macbook Air with the specifications as follows:
Model: MacBook Air 1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Production year: 2008
Production week: 15 (April)
OS X Version 10.5.7
Have had the computer for about a year now and it has been constantly overheating and becoming more or less unusable when doing so. Have been hoping upgrades to the software would solve this eventually but that does not seem to have happened.
As I'm writing this room temperature is about 20 degrees celcius. Laptop sits on a table with power cable plugged in. Not running any external screen. There is no video streaming or music playing. Only the Firefox browser and a few more idle apps are active such as Mail and Skype (in the background). Even under these conditions the fan is currently running loud at 6100rpm and the Macbook Air is very hot underneath.
CPU temperature is currently 54 degrees Celsius. Both cores seem to be active.
Now, as an experiment I will head over to YouTube to watch a video and open up Microsoft Word in the background, a perfectly normal usage for a computer this new. This is what happens:
The computer starts to become painfully slow. After for example clicking an item in the browser there is a 1-3 second delay before the click actually becomes effective. It's now so hot underneath that I would not want to keep it in my lap. It is hard to use the mouse pointer properly as it does not update in realtime, I have to assume where it will land based on my movements. When scrolling, the spinning wheel icon becomes active. Everything is now happening in slow motion.
Video is lagging heavily. I can only see probably 1 out of every 10 frames or less of the video. All applications running are very slow. CPU temperature is now 64 degrees celsius. Fan is at 6200. Computer is now unusable for me. When I scroll a page in the browser it takes about 2-3 seconds before anything happens. Changing tabs takes 5-6 seconds after I click them. I will have to shut it down before re-starting and resuming work. When room temperature is even higher on a hot day needless to say everything gets a lot worse quicker.
Is this normal for Macbook Air's? If that is the case they are more or less unusable for most types of normal 2009 year usage (video, audio, browsing, office work etc).
What solutions have you found? Coolbook? Software/Firmware updates? Hardware changes? Please let me know if you have been able to make your MBA not overheat under normal usage.Hi Everybody,
Thanks for your replies to start with.
I have tried to install Coolbook now and has it running. When using 'throttling' and letting it change CPU speeds (I think..) the problem still remains. When watching a video or other demanding task the temperature goes way up. Running a CPUTest (small or big) gets CPU temperatures of up to 84-85 C. Fan of course at 6200rpm all the time.
Right now, I have Coolbook set to 800Mhz and 0.9V. Apps running are Firefox, Skype, Mail and iTunes with no audio playing. CPU temperature at 56 c and fan speed (as usual) at 6200rpm. I can use the computer now. It is still lagging and not very fast at all. Sometimes text appear 1-2 seconds after I have written it on the keyboard.
So Coolbook has made a difference for me, but only when putting the CPU speed down to 800MHz. I wouldn't call reducing the CPU speed to half a 'solution' though and will not keep that as a long term solution. Reducing voltages for higher CPU-speeds 0.9875V for 1600MHz does not work, it still heats up massively.
Have used the MBA for the whole day today and can't recall a single time the fan has not been around 6200rpm except right after boot.
Thanks for the tips on upgrading to 10.5.8. I will try that right away and let you know how it works out.
Have also considered buying some cooling device but just as you say that feels like a bit of a last thing to resort to.
I'm surprised Apple hasn't responded stronger to this. Had this happened in the car industry we would have seen thousands of cars being sent back to the garage to be fixed.
If this only has to do with some specific production weeks then the right thing to do would be for Apple to let those people have their computers either fixed or replaced. -
ArchLinux Installation disk doesn't recognize Macbook Air SSD[SOLVED]
I want to install ArchLinux on my new MacBook Air (dual boot), I made a dd of the installation iso to a usb disk. The usb disk can boot and run, but it cannot recognize the hard drive(SSD) of Macbook air.
There are three disk files in dev: /dev/sda /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb
/dev/sda is the usb disk, /dev/sdb cannot be opened by parted and cannnot be mounted (it reports "no medium found") and I believe it is the sd card reader.
What can I do?

Hi,
I'm having a Macbook Air with 128GB SSD and 4GB RAM with OS X Mavericks. I was using my Mac normally but suddenly chrome got stuck. So I held down the power button and shut down the Mac. When I switched my Mac on again, it wont start.
I tried to repair my SSD using diskutility from Recovery Partition. But it says something is wrong with my Partition Map and that I have to erase and reinstall OS X. But I cannot erase my SSD. The progress bar gets stuck at 50%.
When I used command line diskutil eraseDisk, it shows Waiting for disks to reappear and is stuck at 50%.
Is it a problem with my SSD. If yes, will I be eligible for Warranty? Is this MBA functional? Will it boot to an OSX?
You may try OPTION+COMMAND+R which would install the original OSX.
You could get an appropriate enclosure for the SSD and connect it to a working Mac and erase it that way.
Ciao. -
I cant erase my air ssd, always create about 5G used extended partition..

Macbook airs ssd has no space left
I have this problem where my macbook air says it has no space left on its 128GB ssd but when i look in terminal and such things i can only find about 56GB used space.
But when i look in "about this mac" it says that i have 194GB of programs.
Ive tried backing up with time machine but it only made 5GB free.
Thanks in advanceIgnore it. Select the drive on the Desktop. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. Look in the top panel to see your drive information.
About This Mac will not report correctly unless the drive has been re-indesed. To do that open Spotlight preferences. Click on the Privacy tab. Drag your drive's Destkop icon into the empty list. Wait 30 seconds then remove it from the list by selecting it and clicking on the Delete [-] button. Allow the system several hours to reindex the drive. -
MacBook Air and problems with Time Capsule in 5GHz Radio Mode
We have our Time Capsule configured to 802.11n only (5 GHz). We've done this to work more efficiently in a particularly noisy wireless area. The problem is that the MacBook Air can't maintain a connection to it and when it loses the connection, the wireless interface seems to disappear from the Mac altogether - the wireless status indicator just shows an empty cone. The only solution is a restart. Sometimes it loses the connection after a couple of hours, sometimes within minutes, though it always goes eventually. All other machines on the network are fine, and switching the Time Capsule to 802.11n only (2.4 GHz) solves the problem, though there's a lot of noise at that frequency and our network performance as a whole suffers.
I know there's similar threads around dealing with the MBA and wireless issues (I've tried all the solutions vaguely related, e.g. deleting and recreating the wireless interface), though none that deal with this specific problem, which I'm convinced is caused by the radio mode of the Time Capsule.
All software / firmware is the latest:
MacBook Air 10.5.2 Wireless Card Firmware Veriosn Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (4.170.46.5)
Time Capsule Version 7.3.1
I was hoping the recent firmware updates would sort this... any one else running a Time Capsule in 5GHz mode with a MacBook Air?I'm running my TC in 5ghz mode with my MBA. My original problem was the lack of signal strength coming from my AEBS caused the MBA to have a slow connection. There are a number of pipes in the wall that separates the two rooms where my MBA lives and the AEBS is.
So, I hard wired the TC to the AEBS and placed the TC in the room where my MBA lives most of the time. Now that the signal strength is really good I'm not having any issues. -
Any resolution for new macbook air hibernation problem?
I know this problem has started to surface online where the macbook air goes into sleep but doesn't wake and the only option is to hold the power key to reboot.
After having read posts, resetting PRAM and SMC, I still am encountering this issue.
Has anybody found any solution that has worked or is this a machine or software defect?
ThanksI have the exact same problem. Has it been confirmed that this is a software issue and not hardware related?

New MacBook Air camera problem
Got my new macbook air (mid 2012) and camera doesn't show anything:
Mac recognizes the FaceTime HD Camera (on System Information),
but when turning on FaceTime / Photobooth / Skype etc.. the loading icon just stay
on the screen and nothing else come up.
Already installed all software updates and tried setting up a new user - still same problem.
I use OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4 on Macbook air 13.3" Mid 2012.
What should I do?Jacob ..
Try troubleshooting the built in camera > How to Troubleshoot iSight
Since the same thing happens in more than one user account, try Resetting the PRAM first. -
New Macbook Air - graphics problem
New mid 2011 Macbook Air with Intel HD300 graphics card
Seems to be a problem with brushes in photo editing software. Brushes don't render correctly on screen at certain sizes.
Problems experienced in Aperture, Photoshop and Lightroom.
No problems at all with this software on my 2009 MBA or MBP runnining Lion10.7.1
Problem is just on this new Macbook Air
Any advice or solution much appreciatedProblem still there is 10.7.2. No work around. It makes using Photoshop on a MB Air very difficult. On the Photoshop.com forum (Adobe), they are blaming Apple the the graphics drivers, and disavowing any resposibility.

Iphone 5c and Macbook Air wifi problems
Just bought an iphone 5c and got the new macbook air in September. Everything has been great with my macbook air until I got my iphone 5c. The problem comes when I have both the phone and laptop together, connected to my home wifi. Only one will connect at a time, on my iphone it wont even recognise my home wifi but as soon as I disconnect my laptop the wifi becomes visable. I know its not a router issue, Ive turned it on and off and it only works for about 5 minutes. Can anyone tell me what the think is going on or how to fix it? Thanks, Eva
kbevz wrote:
i have tried to configure my Router, tried many options and nothing... when connected , have internet connection 40 sec ... then no internet at all ... heeelp ! thanks
What exactly have you tried? Did you try different security settings? Which ones did you try? Were there any more successful than another? Which one was it on when it worked for a few seconds? Is the router running the latest firmware? -
Macbook air display problems in vista
i got a macbook air, and i installed vista on it and it worked fine....2 weeks later i power up vista only to find the screen format is out of wack, it has 2 black lines on the side, the kind of lines when you watch 4:9 on a 16:9 screen, its basically like a square in a rectangle....i tried everything and it has not worked, could it be driver problems, or screen problems (screen is fine on leopard, its just a vista issue)
any help is greatly appreciatedOne idea, Vista has automatic update by default enabled. It could be that your graphics driver was updated from the time you installed it. What is the graphics driver version?
