Macbook air stopped connecting to The Cloud wifi network in the UK

I used to be able to connect to The Cloud wifi network in local bars, cafes and restaurants on all my apple devices, but my macbook air has stopped connecting to this network. My iPhone and iPad still connect no problem. The bar at the top of my macbook air tells me I'm connected to The Cloud wifi, but I am not taken to the login page and hence can not connect to the internet. This used to work no problem. I'm not sure, but this issue may have occurred around the time I installed OS X Mavericks. I have recently installed OS X Yosemite and still have the same connectivity problem. My macbook air connects to other wifi networks such as my home network and my work clients' networks. Any help or advice anyone can offer would be much appreciated.

G-band networks generally will have a stronger signal than n-band.
Tell it to ignore the g network and only connect to the N-band network.
Open Network System Prefs, select WiFi, and click Advanced...
Click on the WiFi tab.
Find you g-band network in the list and delete it.
Check the box to Remember networks this computer has joined.

It might help to reset the connection settings on your Mac using these steps one at a time until the problem is resolved, recognizing that, depending on your problem, not all of these steps will make sense:
    1) Use the AirPort/Wi-Fi menu bar item to turn AirPort/Wi-Fi off, then on again.
    2) Try to select your Wi-Fi network from the AirPort/Wi-Fi menu.
    3) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort/Wi-Fi item from the left column, then add it back.
    4) In the same panel as (3), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
    5) In the same panel, select the AirPort/Wi-Fi connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".  Note that the fix this step implements may be temporary.
    6) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( _not_ <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
These steps may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try.  Before you try these, if you have any special network settings on your Mac for things like DSL credentials, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them.  If you got all the way to the last step, if things don't work any worse than before, you can trash the saved SystemConfiguration folder.
By the way, you've been misled by poor field labeling on this forum into typing a large part of your message into the field intended for the subject.  In the future just type a short summary of your post into that field and type the whole message into the field below that.

  • Macbook Air only connects to the internet for a few seconds at a time.

My 2013 Macbook Air (10.8.5) will only connect to the internet for a few seconds. It recognizes the wifi, but will just timeout when trying to access a website. If I turn Wifi off and then back on, it will work for another few seconds, only for the same issue to come up. I've tried EVERY SINGLE troubleshooting tip I could find and nothing works. I've renewed DCHP, rebooted my Mac, rebooted the router, network diagnostics, everything. I've scanned with Sophos multiple times and nothing has been detected. My 2007 MacBook Pro works just fine on the network as well as my roommates Macbook and my Apple TV. I have no clue how to fix it and am praying someone knows what to do. Please help!

Start by getting rid of "Sophos," which is worse than useless.
Remove the Sophos product by following the instructions on this page, and also this one, if applicable. If you have a different version, the procedure may be different.
Back up all data before making any changes.

  • I have a dualband Airport Express. Why is my Macbook air default connecting to the 802.11g network instead of the n one?

I'm using a dualband Airport Express:
    http://www.apple.com/airport-express/specs/
Recently, I've noticed that my wi-fi speeds vary alot. I went into About this Mac---> System info -----> system report and went to wi-fi. Turns out it says my current configuration is on the 802.11g network. Under other connections, it lists my identical wi-fi as 802.11n.
How can i make it connect to the 802.11n connection by default?
    Much appreciated,

  • Macbook Pro stops being able to detect wifi network

This is bugging me - over the course of the last 24 hours my relatively new (ie < 6 months old) Macbook Pro has started to drop its wireless signal. I can be sitting with both the new Macbook Pro and an old Macbook (circa 2006) both connected to my network via Time Capsule with both of them working fine, only for the Macbook Pro to suddenly seize up and lose the wireless signal. Hours later it works again, as if by magic! The strange thing is the Menu bar shows that I am connected to my network, but Airport Utility cannot see either the Time Capsule or the Airport Express on my network
Are there are diagnostic tools or terminal commands/logs I can use to try an pinpoint what or where the problem is? Any advice gratefully received
I intend on taking this Macbook in for servicing but I'd like some evidence first otherwise I'll look like a bigger bozo

Open System Preferences / Network / Wi-Fi / Advanced... and delete the unwanted network from the list of Preferred's. May want to uncheck the Remember networks.... option as well, to prevent auto-join.
If it insists to join the other network, it's probably cause the signal is stronger and the Wi-Fi protocols indicate a search for the strongest. Once you click OK, you can check the  Ask to join networks option on the previous page, so at least you'll get asked (every time) and have some say in the matter.

  • The internal camera on my macbook air stopped working.

The internal camera on my macbook air stopped working. The camera is non available in settings also. Please help.

Check if it is a hardware issue. If it is take the MBA to an Apple dealer.
Apple menu / About the Mac / More Info / System Report.
On the left, under Hardware, click on USB. The right side will show the USB Device Tree. Check to verify the camera is listed. Should be called Built-in iSight. If it is not listed, take the computer in for a full diagnosis.
If the camera is listed, click on Launch Pad then click on Photo Booth. Do you see anything?

  • I am trying to set up internet sharing from my macbook air but there does not seem to be an option for this because the air is connected to the internet via wifi connection. Is it possible to still share this?

I am trying to set up internet sharing from my macbook air but there does not seem to be an option for this because the air is connected to the internet via wifi connection. Is it possible to still share this?

It depends upon how the other machines are connecting to your MBA:
If the the other machines are also using wi-fi, they can connect directly to the wireless access point (router) without going through your MBA
If the other machines are connecting to the MBA using ethernet you can share your wi-fi connection to them

My Macbook Pro keeps connecting to the wrong wifi.  How do I stop it from doing this?

Select the wi-fi tab in the menu bar then select "Open Network Preferences..." Select the "Advanced" button, then select the network that it is interfering with your MBP, then hit the - button and it will "forget" that network. Hope that fixes your problem, good luck.

  • I have a BTHub4 - My iMac, iPhone, and children's iPads all connect to the internet no problem. I cannot get my 2 MacBook Pros or my partners MacBook Air to connect. Have tried diagnostics - says to change DNS but  it is correct.

I have a BTHub4 - My iMac, iPhone, and children's iPads all connect to the internet no problem. I cannot get my 2 MacBook Pros or my partners MacBook Air to connect. Have tried diagnostics - says to change DNS but  it is correct. I have re-set both router and all laptops - no joy. They can all see the network but cannot connect.

This is extraordinary. I have moved the router and also tried resetting it to its factory strings.  We have had this router for over a year and all our devices have always worked. Now all four laptops will not connect to the internet. Only one oMac and our phones and iPad.
I have had far more devices running at once before but now all laptops are timing out on connection. Some say this iIP address is already being used but if I manually set to a slightly different IP address it does not help, noir if I manually set to the correct IP address. Why would all our laptops (four) suddenly be unable to connect?

  • Hi I have this problem that my iPad 4 stops connecting to the wifi at around 9:30 every night

Hi I have this problem that my iPad 4 stops connecting to the wifi at around 9:30 every night but my iPhone 5 and Mac mini still connects to the same wifi network I have called apple support and they had no clue what the problem is, have tried changing the http settings to auto and resetting the network setting on the iPad but no luck so far would appreciate any help thanks josh

One possibility is that there is an allowed time period for access programmed into your WiFi router for the MAC address of your iPad.
What make, model, and version WiFi router do you have?
Another possibility is that you are getting some WiFi interference from a nearby WiFi network which is automatically turning on at 9:30 PM. A nearby home security system could be the culprit.

  • Macbook air charges fine with the Thunderbolt screen connection but only sometimes with the 45 W chargers.

My Macbook air charges fine with the Thunderbolt screen connection but only sometimes with the 45 W chargers. It seems to be the combination of the chargers and the computer. I was thinking whether the Thunderbolt screen has a larger power supply which easier activates the computer to actually receive the charge. It reminds me a bit of the Nokia Lumia 800 telephone, which when totally exhausted needs a strong charger to be activated again. I am as frustrated as most others.  I have got two chargers, and both of them sometimes work, other times not. Sometimes, they start working after a while. Is Apple meanwhile coming up with a solution or advice how to handle such situation?

I just got my ATD and late 2011 MBP up and running. I've not tried running without the power adapter from the ATD plugged in, but I just tried and didn't have any problems with the display not waking. You may want to take your query to the ATD forum - https://discussions.apple.com/community/peripherals/thunderbolt_display - perhaps someone there has experienced a similar issue.
    Good luck,
    Clinton
