Macbook air stuck in No bootable device, external keyboard not working.

Hello.
Yesterday tried to install Windows 7 via Bootcamp. As everyone else got to "No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key."
After few seconds I realized that keyboard is not working. Googled it and found out that I need to buy an external keyboard. So I did.
Guess what, external keyboard is not working too. Tryed with different PC, it worked with them.
So what now?

The Formatted test drive did not have Any OS on it. I just thought that since that was how I installed it originally, that it would work.
I put in SSD straight out of package, connected Firewire drive with SnowLeopard install, and it booted to it and asked me for to install to which drive, I choose SSD and it took off..
So what your saying is, do the same thing but hang SSD from broken Mini onto working Mini and boot up with same Firewire drive, and have it install OS back onto Broken SSD drive.
Assuming all of this works correctly, why would plugging it back into broken Mini work? Wont the Broken Mini still be looking for BootCamp to finish what it started? (just seems that way from what I've experienced so far)

  • Bootcamp "no bootable device" Option key not working

Ok recently rebuilt 2 older "Intel Core Duo" Mac Mini's with SSD drives. They work great and have been flying, however on one of them I wanted to setup BootCamp so that I could run Win7 Pro on it as well.
So here is what I did...
    - When I first built the Mini's I used a bootable Firewire drive with Snow Leopard installed
    - I had the drive divided into 2 partitions at first
    - when I tried to install BootCamp error message kept telling me it needed only one part, so I finally made Primary OSX part one big part, then I was able to get BootCamp going
    - I choose "I have Mac OSX Install disc" because "Download the Windows support software" would not work
    - Next it created the BOOTCAMP part and told me to put Win OS disk in drive
    - I put in an OEM Win 7 CD I borrowed from work, so I could see how it worked.
    - When it rebooted, it Did not recognize CD and all screen said was choose Option 1 or 2, (neither option had any text, and the keyboard would not take any input)
    - Tried numerous times to get back to OSX, used every boot option I could find online but none would work.. Also Mini would not give back CD for nothing
    - Next I opened up Mini to get to CD, I had a friend that was able to get one out by opening up the actual dvd drive but I was trying to avoid that. So what I ended up doing was using a putty knife to keep CD from spinning on bootup. After about 10 to 15 seconds of the CD not spinning, it finally kicked it out for me. (YAY!!)
    - New problem, now I have the "No Bootable Device - - Insert Boot Disk And Press Any Key"
    - I have tried the following. Removing the drive and plugging in a Sata to USB cable so I can access it from other Mini
    - I thought that if I deleted the BOOTCAMP part it would allow me to boot back to OSX, I tried renaming Part to what it was before, I have tried putting in a Formatted drive with no OS on it, I have tried installing the contents of a Win 7 OEM CD onto Formatted drive as a single FAT part.
Nothing Works, I am either stuck at the "No Bootable Device" screen, or if I turn on Firewire drive with Snow Leopard I get a blinking cursor that never shows any text.
At this point, I don't want BootCamp on that Mini anymore, I just want my working OSX, but I cant get anything to work and I'm afraid to stick a CD in the Mini for fear it wont give it back to me and I end up damaging it getting it out. I even created a CD with rEFIt on it, but after I formatted a totally different drive and the Mini is still expecting to finish what it start with BootCamp, it leads me to believe that there is some BIOS or data stored somewhere that is not on the harddrive. If so, could I pull the RAM, or push some sort of master Reset button some where?
I'm also thinking that I need a non mac USB keyboard, perhaps maybe there or know Aluminum Keyboard drives in the memory where the Mini is trying to finish the BootCamp install.
As a side note, I sure wish Apple would have designed the Mini to fail Safe not fail broken.
    Please Help.
    Randy

  • MacBook Air is just flashing on and off but not working after trying updates

This morning I got notification that I was supposed to update my MacBook Air with both update for iTunes and update for Firefox.
    I hit yes to both.
Now I am just getting a constant flashing on and off and blank screen alternating with brief picture of the Apple with bar underneath it.
Have turned on and off several times and still won't work.
    Ideas/

I don't think that the iTunes and Firefox updates could do this, but it looks like the logic board is damaged. What happens when you press Shift key while your Mac is starting?

  • Macbook Air 2013 OSX 10.9.2 iSight Camera not working

    Hello to everyone!
I have a problem here in my new macbook air 2013.
Since I updated my osx to 10.9.2 my iSight Camera is not working anymore. I tried to reset the SMC and PRAM without results. I also checked the permissions on my hard disk without any result.
I've also tried to delete my AppleCamera.plugin file from /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/ and I tried to use another one from OSX 10.8.4 but it's not working.
    What can I do more?
Is there any way to fix this problem without formatting?
    Regards,
    Marco Alioli

  • Keys on external keyboard not working

    Hi folks,
I recently purchased a USB keyboard (extended numeric) for my MacBook Pro, and all has been good until this morning, when the V and Y keys (both lower and upper case) have stopped working, i.e. when I try typing with them, nothing appears. With the V key, the Edit button flashes, and nothing happens (that I can notice, anyway) when I try the Y key. (Thankfully my macbook keyboard is all okay.)
I wondered if the keyboard might have shorted, but all other keys are working okay.
    Any thoughts?

Yes, the built in keyboard works perfectly well, both with the external keyboard connected and disconnected. I'm hoping the external one isn't beyond help... it's such a pain to have to replace!

  • 2006 Macbook Pro 17 inch duo 2 core backlight keyboard not working

I have a Macbook Pro 17 inch model MA611 L/A 2.33 duo 2 core.  I recently had to change the hard drive and when I put everything back, the backlit keyboard is not coming on.  I have reseted the SMC, downloaded labtick, and can see F9 and F10 light up and down setting on the keyboard.
It's not coming on.  I double check to make sure that the keyboard ribbon is on securely.  The keyboard is working as I am typing this post on it.
Nothing seems to be a problem other than the backlit keyboard not coming on.  Is it possible that the LED light is broken even though everything on the keyboard works normally?
Am I missing something?  Anyone have experience like this?
Any help or clues would be appreciated.  It is really bothering me and is annoying not having this feature at night.

A Core Solo or Core Duo Mac can go to Mac OS X 10.6.8. A Core 2 Duo or better can go to Mac OS X 10.7.2.

  • Some keys on external keyboard not working

I've got a user with a MacBookPro5,3  She has a USB iMac keyboard attached, which has worked for a long time.  Last week, she couldn't log in.  I saw that the "L" key wasn't working.  Bad keyboard, right?  Swapped it out, and all was well.  Today, same problem.  Fiddling around shows me that 9, 0, O, P, and L at least aren't working.  Because of the pattern they make on the keyboard, I'm suspecting that something is trying to pretend that there's no number pad and it's trying to "fake" one, like on some laptops you'd hold down Fn or similar to use a series of keys as a number pad.  Oh, and we have zapped the PRAM.
    1) Is there a plist or preference or somethign that could be deleted or reset for the keyboard?keys as a nuymber pad or some alternate use?
    2) Is there a known function that would try to use some

    Anyone?
90- op[ l;' ./  are the keys that don't work.
I plugged the keyboard into a different MacBook and it's doing the same thing.  But when this first started happening, we swapped keyboards on the first computer.  ***?  Can the Mac somehow set the keyboard permanently?

  • I have connected my new Macbook Air to my existing Samsung large external monitor with a VGA adaptor but I can't get the full mac desktop to display. No icons but then websites are coming up. Help!

I have connected my new Macbook Air to my existing Samsung large external monitor with a VGA adaptor but I can't get the full mac desktop to display. No icons but then websites are coming up. Help!  Further info:  I am a complete newbie to Mac.  Had three macs prior to 2000 then four PCs.  Just come back and struggling a bit with the unfamiliarity. On my old PC laptop I could simply switch from the laptop screen to the large external monitor (and back)  with the F4 function key.  While I can get the background image from my MBA to display, that's it.  Until I noticed on the far left of the external monitor, the very edge of one of the web pages I was on.  So Idragged it over to display in the centre.  But that's all that's there.  And now I have gone out of those web pages but they are still displaying on the monitor.  There is some wierd disconnect.  I'm sure it is just a setting thing.  Will keep searching for answer but any advice welcome!

Your dsplay is getting extended onto the external monitor. Chcnage the setting to duplicate it or only display on the external monitor and you should be fine,
Let me know if this worked for you.

  • MacBook Air - windows 7 / Bootcamp - External Display NOT WORKING

I run Windows 7 (Bootcamp) on a 9/2011 MacBook Air, how can I run an external display? Settings only give single display option there seems to be no way to either just display on an external display or to extend to an external display. Is this a bug?

You also may want to post in the Boot Camp forum, there may be some MBA users that can help you.

  • Connect macbook pro to macbook air as if it were an external hard drive?

can i connect my macbook pro to my macbook air as if it were an external hard drive?
i tried using migration assistant, which will work, but i want to look through my stuff as if it were an available external harddrive, then click and drag stuff onto my new computer.

If you are using Ethernet to connect the two computers, then enable File Sharing on the MBP. Select the MBP's Desktop drive icon. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window, check the box labeled "Shared Folder." You should then be able to mount the MBP's shared drive on the MBA's Desktop and browse to your heart's content.

    Hi ..
Which OS X is installed on your Mac ?
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac. The version is noted there.
Make sure your Mac OS X software is up to date.
Disconnect the iPad from your Mac.
Open System Preferences > Software Update > Check Now
If any updates are required, make sure to restart your Mac after the updates are installed then connect your iPad and see if iTunes recognizes it under Devices.
