Macbook Air suddenly crashing
Hello guys,
I really would appreciate your help with this problem that i'm facing on my Mac.
I have this Macbook Air 11", 1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Dup, 4 GB RAM DDR3, 128 SSD HD and Mac OS X Mountain Lion updated to the version 10.8.2.
I don't know what happens, but it suddenly crash/freezes.
It's happening very often - something around 3 or 4 times per day.
When it happens, the screen just go dark (sometimes white, red and even blue - it's so wired!), and then i have to hold down the power button, until it turns off. Then, i press it again and it turns on normally.
Everything works fine while it's on, but it's very annoying when i'm in the middle of some work and it crashes. I always loose something.
I would be glad if someone could help me.
Thank you very much!
I,
Yes it could very well be if you have particularly an Intel MacBook Air it would shut down if it's overheating.
http://gigaom.com/apple/is-mountain-lion-too-hot-for-your-mac-to-handle/
Scroll down and read about overheating issues with Intel.
One of the things to do is feel the heat on the left underside when first turned on & compare a few hours later.
You can use Utilities, Activity monitor to see what is hogging memory & also which processes do a lot of IO read/writes. See if you have things auto loading in the background via System Preferences, User, Logon Items.
Is the fan noisy just before it shuts down? If it is and there is heat then something is overloading the CPU. It could be, believe it or not, an app that misbehaves. I had that with a Wundershare Video app. So think back to when this was not happening & if you know what apps you installed after that. Simply deinstalling sometimes works but if the app. changed some root content then you may need a clean install of the OS and carefully add apps a day at a time.
If the fan is NOT noisy but there is heat get thee to an Apple store because if the heatsink fan is broken that can wreck your MBA over time or pretty quickly.
I would in your shoes, if it is overheating get a laptop cooling stand or pad. I have a Logitech one with great speakers built in and two cooling fans.
Hopefully these tips help you diagnose.

My late 2010 MacBook Air suddenly crashes and will not stay on.
I returned from a trip during which I used my MacBook Air (Late 2010) constantly. Upon leaving the hotel I closed the computer and put it into my carrier and did not open it until arriving at home later that day. There was moisture on the keyboard and screen at the corresponding position in an area about the size of a 50¢ piece, I cleaned that up and turned the machine on and it booted up and then created. Several times it would turn off and on a few times without any input from me. At times it will boot up like all is well but with any keystroke it crashes to a black screen. If I had to guess, I'd say the HD is toast. It was replaced under warranty once already. The moisture is a complete mystery. Any ideas?
What method were you using for travel? I think sometimes condensation can happen in flight. Sounds like there was more moisture on the motherboard as well. Leave it for a few days in the sunlight if possible and see what happens after that.

macbook air suddenly running slow. Closed all applications, rebooted, doesn't solve the problem. Any ideas?
It's very likely that your boot drive is failing. Back up all data immediately and schedule a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

Macbook air keeps crashing?
So basically I was using the macbook air as always and suddenly it changed to the gray 'screen of death'. It crashed 2 times in a single day. I was using pages and BAM, gray screen of death. Just in case it's relevant, It's a 2013 macbook air, with OSX mavericks installed. Uh, not much applications downloaded outside the app store. just steam.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select the most recent panic report (with a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic") under the heading System Diagnostic Reports on the left. If you don't see that heading, select

In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Mid 2011 Macbook Air constant crashing
Hello,
I am experiencing random kernel panics with my Mid 2011 Macbook Air.
I have taken the laptop in to an Apple store where it passed every single test and they could not find anything wrong with it.
However, there clearly is something wrong with it. There have been times where it hasn't kernel paniced for a couple of weeks, but then it starts back up again. I have pasted below the first panic of this evening, which was then followed by 7 more whilst restarting and after logging back in.
I am currently using the laptop in safe mode, I have not used it long enough to know if this stops the kernel panics or not, but it does seem more stable.
I am now unsure what I can now do from here. Apple cannot find anthing wrong with the laptop that I have only had for 18 months, but this is clearly not fit for purpose if it cannot run OSX without crashing, something is wrong.
Where can I go from here? I can't carry on using this laptop for work it's that bad.
Thank you for your time.

I do not have anything plugged in to the laptop.
Booting into safe mode does seem more stable, but I am unable to use safe mode for prolonged periods of time to test it.
I have completely uninstall VirtualBox from my my machine since my previous post, and I am still getting kernel panics. Here is the most recent.

Hi Folks
I have been having some major issues with my Macbook Air (mid 2011, Yosemite 10.10.1, 1.6GHZ core i5, 2 GB 1333 MHz DDR3)
It randomly crashes during use. Programs stop working and then the spinning beachball pops up for a few seconds before everything crashes and I have to power off/on
I did a number of system resets and reinstallation's and for a while now I have had it running generally ok except a few crashes here and there when I am using it a lot. Just had a few issues tonight and had 3 crashes in quick succession and also the ? folder pop up once.
For the first time though the system reported an error code and I have pasted it below. Has anyone seen this before or can anyone decipher what it means? I am no expert so it means very little to me. Any help would be much appreciated
Many thanks

Applications on my MacBook Air keep crashing
Hi,
I have a mid-2012 11-inch MacBook Air, with Mountain Lion installed and all software updated to the most recent versions.
Over the past few weeks, I've been dealing with an increasing number of crashes among open applications (Safari, Mail and Skype), whether they are active, in the background, hidden or minimised. Lately, whenever Safari crashes, it takes around a minute to start loading up web pages properly. I'm not sure how to fix this - I've tried running Disk Utility and it reports no problems. I have Avast! and it repoorts no infections (though more than a few warnings of corrupted files).
Any suggestions as to what could be causing this, or how I might get around to dealing with it?
-CI wasn't clear, I meant utilities such as menubar items or other types of add-on (SIMBL, for example.) The other thing to consider is that something is corrupted that is causing the crashes. Consider setting up a new user account with admin privileges. Log into this new account and see if the same crashes occur. If they don't, then there's a problem with one or more things in your normal user account - preference files, temporary files, cache files, for example.)
And, I can't urge you enough to uninstall the AV software. Avast should have an uninstaller to use. -
My macbook air suddenly has no sound
All of a sudden there is no sound on my macbook air. I can click the volume up & down buttons and they look like the volume is getting louder or softer, but there is no sound at all.
And I just checked - iTunes is no longer playing (I just did the update).
Help! Thanks Kappy - it fixed that and the other problem I was having. It's usually the first thing I do after trying obvious stuff - I must be tired to have not thought to do it this time.

Hi guys,
I have a 2010 model macbook air, and it is constantly crashing! I can be using the internet, photo editing software or waching a movie and I get the spinning beachball and have to reboot the machine. Once rebooted the problem will persist, usually crashing faster than the last time and keeps happening until I leave the mac for a while and can only do light tasks such as facebook, news etc. as anything heavier causes it to crash again.
It has already been in for a repair to apple a few weeks ago and they replaced the logic board citing fluctuating voltage to cpu. If that is the case then why is this still happening? When it was repaired before it got to the stage where it froze on the grey startup screen.
I have been through the basic ways of starting up in safe mode and resetting PRAM with no luck. I also cannot do software updates without it crashing
Can anyone offer any other advice?
many thanks

My 2011 MacBook Air suddenly takes a long time to shutdown!
My 13-inch Mid 2011 MacBook Air running OS X 10.7.2 used to take less than 2 seconds to shut down. Recently it's been taking a lot longer time to shut down. Usually it takes 15-20 seconds, but occassionally never shuts down even after waiting for over 10+ hours. I just see the loading wheel keep on spinning. I've checked the disk permissions, ran ONYX to clean up everything, reset PRAM, and read through the system logs. I couldn't find any reason why it's taking so long to shut down.. I'm trying to avoid the last resort of reinstalling OSX 10.7.2.
Does anyone have any ideas on what's slowing down the shut down process?
Thank you!!I had a similar "problem". Before the issue, my MBA would literally take less than 2 seconds to completely shutdown. Then after installing some 3rd party software, shutdown time increased to 10-15 seconds (the screen would go white and then I'd get the whirling activity symbol). Really not a huge deal but it kind of bothered me and I thought it could be some inefficient process going on.
Short answer: There must be some software process that is taking longer to release the resources that it is using before the computer can shut down. (I'm no expert, so I don't know if I described that accurately)
It's likely some 3rd party software that you may have installed or some setting in a program. In my case, I installed 3rd party software that was a user-written driver for the Xbox 360 controller. I mounted the .dmg and intiated the Installer, then chose "Show Files" from the Files menu of Installer to see exactly where the files were being installed. Deleted all the files and was still getting longer shutdown times.
Went into Activity Monitor and chose "All Processes" from the drop-down menu in the upper right corner instead of just "My Processes" and I noticed one process that had a name that was related to the 3rd party driver I had installed, found its location and deleted it. Apparently, I missed a file location in the Startup Items folder of the current user's Library folder. After deleting that file, shutdown now takes literally less than 2 seconds as before. -
Update to Mavericks Macbook Air Keeps Crashing
Since Updating to Mavericks every day my Macbook Air Hangs and Freezes. Most of the time it starts with one program and then quickly cascades to all of them. It usually takes about 10-20min for the Beach Ball of death to go away and then for everything to resume. Please Help!

8GB late 2012 MacBook Air 512GB SSD with iTunes for Mac 12.1.0.50. Yosomite 10.10.2
This happens on movies and TV titles that have happily run before. It is everything.
Downloading again doesn't seem to work. I deleted all my films and then just re-downloaded Pixar's 5 minute short film Boundin', but the error message popped up as soon as I pressed play.
The only thing I can think of is that last couple of times I ran Disk Utility a new error appeared that I haven't seen before. I have added a link to a screenshot of the Disk Utility report and it refers to "displaypolicyd should be should be 0, group is 244". It says it has been fixed, but the error still persists each time. This may be a red herring, but I can't help thinking that it is something to do with the problem.
