MacBook Air Upgrade in Store

I am planning to buy a Macbook Air in a few weeks, but I wanted to make the 2.0 GHz and the 8GB but do I need to order it offline or can I go into the store and just buy one with those upgrades? (been a while since I last bought a Mac haha)

The RAM upgrade must be done from the online Apple Store.

  • How to delete data from hard disk before returning Macbook Air to the store

I need to return a recently purchased Macbook Air to the store. How do I delete all data from the hard drive before I return the notebook?

Ahh, you want to WIPE the entire drive,.....command R on startup, disk utilities....select MacIntosh HD,......ERASE it format it in MAC OSX extended journaled.
after than, you can do a wifi or ethernet reinstall to factory OUT OF BOX new condition.    Usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours if you have a descent fast www connection.

  • I'm signed in to my account on my macbook air's apple store, but when I try to update any apps, it has a locked in apple store user which is not mine, any help removing this?

I'm signed in to my account on my macbook air's apple store, but when I try to update any apps, it has a locked in apple store user which is not mine. I have no idea where this user came from, but I need to update my apps and get this user off my computer. The users email is locked, it is grey in colour and I can not get it off. I've tried my system settings and the app store, logging in does not change the fact that there is a strange email there. I need help, please! I don't know if this is a hack or what, I brought my computer into the shop to get some work done so it may be their account, I just need the account removed.

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, the App Store may prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app may be something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
In the Finder, press command-F to open a search window, or select
    File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
    Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu of search criteria, initially showing Kind. From that menu, select
    Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select
    Raw Query
as the criterion, then click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of the menu of search criteria. That's where you enter the raw search query. Click in that box and paste the text you copied earlier by pressing command-V.
The search window will now show all the App Store products that are installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.

  • MacBook Air upgrade?

I've decided to get a MacBook Air. I won't be purchasing for another month. But I am going to be using it to run boot camp some and for some gaming. Mainly just the sims 3. But 95% of it for school work. Now since I'll be using boot camp. With windows 7. Would it be necessary to upgrade the ram and processor to i7 processor and 8gb of ram

You should get your MacBook with 8 GB of RAM, as 4 GB may not be enough with future Mac OS X versions. Respecting to the Intel Core i7, you may notice a difference with games, but the rest of tasks will be very similar. I recommend you to get it with the i7 too.
Respecting to Boot Camp, the Mid 2013 MacBook Air supports 64-bit Windows 7 and 8 versions, so you can install the one you want. In both cases, you need to install a System Builder or full Windows edition, which you can buy at Amazon or NewEgg

  • Just bought a macbook air through education store and didn't get gift card to app store

I thought there was a deal going that if you buy through the education store you also get an 100$ gift card to the app store with purchase. I ordered my macbook air a week ago when the promotion was still running and it still is, but I didn't get the gift card with my purchase. Did other people get it?

I am in a similar situation. I purchased a MacBook Air last week for my husband as a gift. We are both students right now, but I ignorantly bought the Air from the regular store. When I realized it I called Customer Care and all they offered to do was give me the discounted pricing. I am very disappointed... It doesn't seem right.
The Air just got to California, so it's still in the process of being shipped. Maybe I should go to a retail store and complain once it arrives. Any suggestions?

  • Mountain lion update with my macbook air "upgrading calendars".

Hello, I updated my macbook air to mountain lion and ever since i did that I the this progress box that constantly says "upgrading calendars".  Does anybody have any suggestions?

    Hello,
I have the same problem, and I would like to do what you suggested.  But in System Preference, I cannot find any place that turns on/off "calenders & reminders from iCloud".  Which subsection of System Preferences is it in?
Here are screen shots of Mail, Contacts and Calendars and iCloud, and as you can see there doesn't seem to be any way to do it...
    Thanks in advance...

  • Why is not mt macbook air upgrading the latest lion updates ?, Why is not mt macbook air upgrading the latest lion updates ?

I have downloaded the latset software updates, but the comp keeps saying it is installing the 2 items, it may take a few minutes, but even after 4 hours, the updates do not happen, the merssage continues as is.
    Please help!

I think this is a MacBookAir problem...
    Works beautifully on my MacBookPro
Constantly screws up on my MacBookAir
Have been on with Apple Support for HOURS on this.
Have built OSX on separate Hard Drive, and boot from that, STILL flakey at BEST.
(this TOTALLY clears me from ANY software I have installed)
I hope they get this resolved...
My MacBook air was purchased 3 months ago, running Mountain Lion
My AppleTV is 2nd generation, but have also same problem to 3rd generation i tested.
    DRIVING ME NUTS!
    NOTE!
SOMETIMES it works to reboot into SAFE mode (hold shift on reboot), go fully into
your account.  Then reboot normally... if you're lucky it might come back (not all
the time, but about 50-50%)... give it a shot and let me know how it works for you.

  • MacBook Air upgraded to Mavericks. I'm left with a spinning circle.  What next?

I upgraded to Mavericks last night and my computer won't launch. I'm left with a spinning circle with my desktop graphic behind a white box that has back greyed out and the  continue circle with forward arrow that does nothing.  A spinning circle in the middle is all I see.  What to do now?

I'd just hold down the power button unitl it shuts down. Restart and see if it actually gets through the setup routine.
If not, shut down again and when you restart, hold down cmd-opt-p-r right after the startup tone. keep holding down until you get the tone two more times, then let it restart normally. That resets NVRAM.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If problems again, restart holding down the shift key which will start up in Safe Mode.

If it boots up in Safe Mode, restart and see if it will boot normally.

  • Just bought macbook air; had macbook macbook with Tiger software. What is best way to upload photos to icloud on old computer without upgrading it's software? thanks.

just bought a macbook air upgrading from old macbook with Tiger software; what is best way to take photos from old backbook to icloud so I can see them or download on the new air; Have an external harddrive backup. photo library is too large to transfer directly.thanks.

Memory size has nothing to do with it. I can open my 60GB iPhoto library with only 8GB RAM. Perhaps you have an incompatible version of iPhoto under Tiger with iPhoto under ML.
As to downloading different photos from iCloud, you would do the same if you ...
    * open iPhoto under Tiger
    * dump the photos individually in to a folder on your external hard drive
    * shut down everything on the old MacBook
    * connect the external hard drive to new MacBook
    * open iPhoto on new MacBook
    * import the photos in the folder on the external hard drive directly in to the new iPhoto
IOW, you need not use iCloud (even if you could, which you cannot) to swap photos as you propose.
If you are at a loss for space on your external hard drive for whatever reason (perhaps that external hard drive is a full Time Machine partition), I recommend that you buy another external hard drive just for your photos.

  • MacBook Air SMC update 1.8 killed keyboard & trackpad? (on MBA 11,2010,1.6C2D,ML)

    Hi all,
A bit of a pickle. This is briefly what has happened:
    1. Beloved MacBook working fine with Mountain Lion and all updates applied
    2. Notified a single update is available so downloaded and applied "SMC 1.8 update for MacBook Air" using App Store
    3. On restart no response to trackpad or keyboard (apart from power key)
    4. MacBook responds to SMC reset key combination but this doesn't cure the problem, and now the Bluetooth assistant pops up to help me find a keyboard
    5. Other key combinations don't seem to work, and no green light on caps lock key
    6. NVRAM reset using external keyboard, this doesn't solve the problem
    7. With an external keyboard and mouse attached, everything seems to work perfectly, except the built-in keyboard and trackpad
I took it in to my local Apple Store today and their diagnosis software gave everything the green light apart from the internal USB devices. The "genius" advised this is probably due to a faulty trackpad and replacing that would perhaps cure the keyboard as well, especially as it seemed to be partially working at least.
I am out of warranty but I suggested as everything was working perfectly right up to the SMC update then perhaps they might replace my trackpad and possibly top case for free, if there are no signs of water ingress or physical damage when they open it up. They are considering this but I don't hold out much hope! Has anyone else experienced this issue? What would you do in my position?
Thank you for reading this and any responses are greatly appreciated.

In addition, if I try to do a software update I get a similar crash.
Firefox is working as i itunes and MS Office Apps.
What can I do to resolve? Thanks

  • Macbook Air at 1024 x 640 not a choice in Yosemite?

I was with a friend at an Apple Store - she wants to buy a Macbook Air but needs a lower resolution.  We could see 1024 x 640 on a Macbook Pro, but that's out of her price range.  On the Macbook Air in the Store, 1024 x 640 didn't appear (neither did 800 x 600).  Both of these are listed in the tech specs for Macbook Air.  The machines in the store are running Yosemite.
How does one go about getting this resolution?  At this point, not being able to get 1024 x 640 is a deal breaker.
    Thanks

You cannot; it's intentionally disabled to guard against accidental file loss. If you press Option when pasting the files, they'll be moved instead of copied.

  • Macbook air or Macbook pro retina?

I am in the market to buy a new laptop. I have been thinking about it for quite some time now. However, I just cannot seem to decide between the 13 inch baseline Macbook Air (possibly 8gb ram upgrade) and the 13 inch Macbook Pro with Retina Display baseline. I will be using this computer to surf the web, watch youtube, sometimes edit photos with aperture, maybe use imovie sometimes, and play the occasional video game. This is my forst mac by the way. Also, i am going away to europe this summer and would like to have a laptop with me. Should i wait for the refresh in june? Will they refresh in june? Will the Macbook air be able to suit my needs, will it be fast enough? Which would you recommend? Thank you so much.
    McGregor

I do have the lastest Macbook air 13" (8 gig RAM) since 5 months. I use it for pretty much the list you stated plus software dev on XCode and VisuaStudio in a virtual machine.
Don't get me wrong, Macbook air is wonderfull / near perfect machine and you can't really go wrong with it. No mather your decision, if you get a Macbook Air, upgrade to 8 Gig of RAM. Latest OSX take 2 Gig or RAM right at startup and you will easily get RAM at 4 Gig with couple of web browser and others. Don't even hesitate, get the 8 Gig upgrade so you will support next OSX version easily.
As for speed the MBA will not make you feel you are waiting for it. For comparison,  my main windows PC is a Quad Core i7 with watercooled overclock to 4.8Ghz, 16 Gig RAM and OCZ Vertex 256 SSD drive. Both (PC and MBA) feel equaly snappy and fun to use. The Macbook Air is powerfull and snappy computer and it will get tasks done in a breeze.
That being said, I ordered a Retina Macbook Pro 15" last week that I will received tomorow. I did it mainly for two things. The retina display and size of the display. Once you tasted that retina panel you simply have hard time getting back.
But if you are on a budget, and didn't get retina addicted, you will NOT be dissapointed with a Macbook Air (8 Gig) . It is such a good balanced Ultrabook. But for a +200$ price point, considering 8 gig ram upgrade on 13" MBA, I would recommed the MBP retina 13" too.
    Good luck !

  • My Macbook Air broke. Please help me, Russian Apple Customer Support don't want help me. I'm in despair.

My Macbook Air broke. Please help me, Russian Apple Customer Support don't want help me. I'm in despair.
Hi, I bought my MacBook Air  in your store. In the summer of 2012. My mac is included in the program MacBook Air Flash Storage Drive Replacement Program. I live in Russia. I called the Russian support Apple. They told me to bring mac to an authorized service center. An authorized service center I was told to wait 45 days of the new flash storage drive. It's very long for me. I can `t wait long. I work on a Mac. I do not have another computer. Russian support Аpple does not want to help me. Can you help me? Serial number my MacBook Air : c0*******rvc
    <Personal Information Edited by Host>

Leaving you without a computer for 45 days isn't acceptable. Call Apple and ask for a loaner or replacement. Some people have been receiving them.
If you still have no luck, then consider getting a USB 3.0 HDD and installing and running OS X on it until the replacement part is in.

  • Yosemite locks up MacBook Air then hangs on reboot

MacBook Air upgraded to Yosemite 10.10 (I think...can't login to confirm). Randomly freezes when it goes to sleep, won't allow login when I wake it up. I've tried resetting SMC, PRAM, holding SHIFT, pressing that... Nothing. I get nothing. I've read as many threads as there seem to be on the topics. Any other suggestions?
I'd also like to know if there is a simple way to get dual monitors from a MacBook Air, but nothing I've seen indicates it's possible.

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
