Macbook Air - where is Photos vs iPhoto

I undertand iPhoto is gone with 8.0.2 but how do I put Photos on my Macbook Air?  Also, Airdrop no longer working with my iPhone 6.

Thanks Barney re: Airdrop.  iPhoto is on my Air but locked now - won't allow access.  I have Photo on my 6 which the book doesn't recognize.  Trying a backup of the 6 to my book now but maybe I should just let things be until Yosemite.
Did you recently upgrade to Mavericks? There is an update for iPhoto that works with Mavericks. Check Software Update (App Store Updates).

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

just bought new macbook air, where do i find iWork?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
iWork applications (Numbers, Pages and Keynote) do not come preinstalled. Instead, you have to download them from the Mac App Store, so open the Mac App Store, choose Purchases at the top and you should see iMovie, iPhoto, GarageBand, Numbers, Keynote and Pages as waiting to be accepted, so accept them. Note that you need OS X Mavericks.
If you do not see the iWork applications in the Purchases tab, see > http://www.apple.com/creativity-apps/mac/up-to-date/
(You can check which OS X version you are using in  > About this Mac. 10.9 is OS X Mavericks, and 10.8 is OS X Mountain Lion. If you are using OS X Mountain Lion, first you need to download OS X Mavericks from the Mac App Store and upgrade).

I have bought a 2nd hand late 2008 macbook air and can't install iPhoto as it says it requires update 10.9 or higher i can't seem to update any further than 10.7.5 can anyone help please???

Thankyou for your response... being new to this i have had a look and it says the following
This system can run the last version of OS X 10.8 "Mountain Lion" as well as the current version of OS X 10.9 "Mavericks," but does not support the AirDrop, AirPlay Mirroring, or Power Nap features. It is not supported booting into 64-bit mode when running Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard." It does support "OpenCL" and Grand Central Dispatch introduced with Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard."
Please note that OS X "Lion" 10.7 and subsequent versions of OS X, like Mountain Lion and Mavericks, are not capable of running Mac OS X apps originally written for the PowerPC processor as these operating systems do not support the "Rosetta" environment. To run PowerPC applications on this Mac, it will be necessary to use Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" or earlier
    what do i do next
Thankyou once again for your reply

That's an App Store problem not an iPhoto one. That forum is here

but perhaps you just need to try again later, as the message says.

  • IPhoto/5S/Macbook Air/Yosemite Duplicate Photo Question

I own a 5S and Macbook Air 2011 running Yosemite. When I connect my phone to my computer to upload photos from phone to computer, duplicates appear in iPhoto. This is not a result of cloud/photosharing bc I don't use them. I also don't use the HDR function on my phone. Can someone tell me why this could be happening? Thanks!

It's bug and other posts on the forum found a simple workaround: open the camera app on the phone, then connect it.

  • Trying to show macbook air to use EHD as iPhoto library but it wont accept the change?

I am trying to get more space on my macbook air by moving the default location from internal HD to EHD.  I hold alt down and click on iPhoto.  Select the EHD, then select the folder with all my photos and it wont allow me to click open.  What am I doing wrong?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can only open iPhoto with an iPhoto library, not with any folder with photos inside.
By default, the iPhoto library is stored in the Pictures folder, so go there and move your iPhoto library to your external drive. Then you can open iPhoto with the Alt key and choose your iPhoto library in your external drive as the default iPhoto library. After checking this, remove the iPhoto library in the Pictures folder

  • MacBook Air and transferring photos

I have recently purchased a MacBook Air. I have a late 2009 MacBook with about 80gB of iPhoto photos and a bunch of other random pics within the picture folder. I also have an external hard drive which has a huge number of unorganised photos and folders of photos from many sources both Mac and PC.
What will be the best way to import everything to the new Mac? I was thinking of putting eveything from the MacBook onto the hard drive just with drag and drop and then importing into my new Air through iPhoto. Is this the best option? Will iPhoto sort the duplicate photos and give me the option to not import them? Will it copy the photos to the MacBook so I have access to the photos when the drive isn`t connected?

    You need to clarify:
a: Some of this material is just loose photos in folders?
b: Some is an actual iPhoto Library?
In the case of the iPhoto Library - under no circumstances import anything, just move it.
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
Fo the other material just add them to the Library after it has been moved to the new machine.

    Hi,
All you need is an Adaptor for the Wall Plug Connection... Everything else will be fine...
Line voltage: 100V to 240V AC
    Frequency: 50Hz to 60Hz
    Cheers,

  • Brand New Macbook Air. How to update iPhoto without giving postal address?

I have a brand new New Macbook Air. Since the same day I bought it I keep getting software update notifications for iPhoto and iMovie, but when I try to download them Apple asks for my postal address and phone numbers. This is outrageous. Apple will not allow me to leave any address fields blank. No way are they are  going to get my address to put on their database, I would rather switch off iPhoto and iMovie update notifications, but can't see a way to do this. Can anyone help?

Have you tried calling Apple Care?  They're very helpful and could help you trouble-shoot this.
I agree with you-- one should not have to give one's credit card and address information, unless one wants to, to get an update.
Even on a purely practical level, there are people who do not have credit cards.
One other thought-- these are updates, right?  Or, are they pitches for a new version of the software programs-- which could have to be purchased?  If they are new progrms, in which case, you would have to supply credit card and address to buy them.

  • Target Disk Mode on new MacBook Air - where to find Thunderbolt to Firewire cable?

I use a MacPro desktop with a RAID set-up at home, and will use the new MacBook Air on the road. I need to use Target Disk Mode when I return home to sync my Macs. The MacPro only has Firewire 400/800; the new Air only Thunderbolt. Does anyone know how to find a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter, please?

I, too, would like a TB<->FW adapter, but I'll wager that for 99% of those purchasing a new MBA it is not an issue let alone a serious ommission.
For the rest of 'us' (the remaining 1%) Sonnet has an adapter listed with info due 'later this summer' as to pricing/availability so as Waymen has already stated it may be a while before we see one.
In the meantime, I'll use a combination of USB2 drives (one of my dozen or so USB2 drives--120GB to 1TB--I have lying around), an Ethernet cable, SuperDrive, or AirDrop.  Not as convenient but a usable work around.

  • If I upgrade from snow leopard to mountain lion on my macbook pro will my photos in iPhoto 09 be ok?

What happens to my photos in iphoto 09 when I upgrade from snow leopard to mountain lion?

    Nothing.
That said, you should ALWAYS have a backup as anything can happen at anytime.

  • My MacBook froze whilst uploading photos from iPhoto to Facebook and now the album is empty. Any way to find my lost snaps?

I Was trying to upload photos, in an album, from iPhoto to Facebook on my MacBook. It crashed and I had to do a hard reboot. When I we t back into iPhoto my oictures had gone. Is there  any way to find them.

Do you have a back up?
What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
