Macbook Air won't start up after shutting it down for about 20 minutes

I shut my MBA for about 20 minutes then I tried to turn it on but it won't let me, it is at 49% battery. I pressed the on/off button then waited for about 30 seconds but nothing happened, then i waited for longer and pressed again then it turned on. (I also heard the fans) Can you guys please tell me why this happened and how can I deal with it next time? Thanks a lot.

I would recommend a SMC reset.
SMC RESET
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
PRAM RESET
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

  • 11" MacBook Air won't start even after SMC reset attempt

I press the power button on my Air and the Apple sound chimes, a dimmed grey-black screen appears and nothing else.  I have combed through the communities and the suggestion was to do a SMC reset. I followed the instructions exactly and nothing changed.  I initially plugged into my Thunderbolt monitor and ultimately plugged into power with the standard MagSafe cord. Neither changed the outcome.  I have had this Air since November 2014.
One of my questions about the SMC reset was how could the device recognize actions while the computer is powered off?
    Please help me!

Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).

Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

You have to take the computer to the Apple store to have it checked out.

One of the keys you press when resetting SMC is the power button.

    Hi there abhishekgahlot,
You may want to try resetting the SMC as an initial troubleshooting step. Additionally, take a look at the battery condition. The articles below have more information.

    Hey Msazama30,
First, I would start off your troubleshooting by following the steps in this link:

  • I have MacBook Pro and whenever I start Aperature 3 it stays on for about 5 minutes then it shuts down with an error of shutting down unexpected... anything??

Hello, I have MacBook Pro and whenever I start Aperature 3 it stays on for about 5 minutes then it shuts down with an error of shutting down unexpected... anything??
Also does anyone know how to take something from one picture and add it to another in aperature?
    Thank you!!!

I had the exact same problem. Here is what an Apple Support person told me to do - and it worked like a charm!
Go to your APPLICATIONS Folder. Find a folder within that folder called TOOLBARS. Remove the ENTIRE folder. Once you remove that folder, your Aperture should work perfectly.
There is something in that folder that you don't need that messes with Aperture. Try it. Mine worked perfectly!

  • I can't RDP my VM anymore suddently after shutting it down for one day

I can't RDP my machine suddenly after shutting it down for one day. can anyone help please ?
If it's this reliable we don't need it but we will make this decision later. we prepared this machine for demo today spending one week on it and today when we need it, its not working. typical microsoft product.

    Hi,
Which region is that VM in? In addition, what error messaga have you recieved when you connected into the VM?
Firstly, I recommend you to check the quick glance of the VM to make sure that all the parameters are displaying. If not, please restart it to see if the issue persists.
In addition, you can refer to the article below for troubleshooting:

After listening to NPR for about a minute, screen fades to dim, then to black then stops playing.
I have to open the phone again, the player is still visible, so I start playing again and the same sequence happens about 1:10 later and on and on.
I thought it might be the facebook thing so I deleted my facebaook account from my iphone, restarted the iphone (reboot) and it still does the same thing.
What am I missing here? I don't see any screen saver settings or anywhere else I can stop this fom happening. I reach NPR on the Google search app.
    Could that have a connection?
Thanks!  Iphone 4s and IOS 6.0.1

    Steve Garman wrote:

That's why this is happening, you're not using an app designed to run in the background. Look in the app store to see if NPR has a dedicated app. If so, & you use their app, it should run in the background. The only other way to stop this would be to set Auto-Lock to "Never". However, if you did that, you'll be measuring your battery life in minutes.

  • MacBook Air won't turn on after repairing permissions

    Hi everyone!
I tried to update the software on my new MacBook Air; the updates started downloading and then it stopped because of a network problem. For some reason, my network wouldn't accept it so I thought *checking the permissions*; I asked for a repair, had the time briefly to see the long list of incompatibilities and then, bof, the Mac turned off, as simply as that. I did everything the Troubleshooting page suggested here:
+Press the control key, the command key, and the power button simultaneously and hold for three seconds to try to restart the computer.+
+Reset the PRAM. After pressing the power button, hold down these keys simultaneously: Command-Option-P-R, until you hear the startup chime at least one additional time after the initial startup chime.+
+On the MacBook Air, press (left) Shift-Control-Option along with the power button once. Note: You must use the keys on the left side of the MacBook Air keyboard.+
the only thing I can say is that at times I could hear the fan turning, but although I pressed the luminosity & sound buttons nothing changed.
    I wonder if it's a software problem.
I am frustrated as ****, especially as in my country I don't trust anybody to get close to it
    Any suggestions pleeeeeeease?
    Thank you!

    Hi Guys,
I'm having the same issue with my MBA. Basically, I press the power button, the SIL light flashes once for about 5 seconds, then goes off, then comes back on and I can hear the fans spin up (I have removed the back cover to confirm this). The screen stays black, the keyboard doesn't show any signs of life and the SIL light just sits there. I've tried the usual SMC, PRAM reset, all to no avail. Thought that maybe it could be a POST or boot ROM failure... Any ideas?
    Thanks,

  • Macbook Air won't turn on after SMC reset

    Hello,
The fan on my macbook air had suddenly started becoming very loud intermittently even with no apps running. I tried restarting the computer several times, but the problem persisted for about a week. Looking online, I found an SMC reset might solve the problem. However, after doing the reset, my Macbook now will not turn on at all. There is no startup chime or lights when pressing the startup button. The only thing that happens when I press the power button is that the light on the adapter turns from orange to green for second before turning back to orange.
I have an appointment with the Genius Bar tomorrow, but would like to seen if anyone has any suggestions. Thank You

    Try the SMC again:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
    Then try a Safe Boot;

    Any change?

Also try a different USB port on the iMac.

  • Macbook Air won't start after Yosemite update

    Hi all,
I have a late 2013 model macbook air (just out of the 1 year warranty). I updated to Yosemite last night and to complete the install I restarted the macbook when prompted, but it never turned back ok.
I can now hear the macbook trying to start up but it does nothing. I have tried to reset the SMC and I can see the power adapter change colour from orange to green for a few seconds but this does not appear to fix the issue.
    Any help is appreciated,
    Peter

If that doesn't work, this link may help you identify the problem
    https://www.ifixit.com/Wiki/MacBook_Air_Troubleshooting#Section_MacBook_Air_won_ t_turn_on
If you still think its SMC issue you can try manual SMC Reset (At your own risk ). Steps are..
    1. Open the lower case
    2. Disconnect the battery connector and after few secords connect it back and close the lid

  • Macbook air won't start

Hello, Need help with a macbook air, running mountain lion.  I don't know which version because my computer won't start.
It appears to boot normally all the way to where the desktop can be seen and the cursor is drawn properly and the cursor can be moved around using the touchpad.  It may or may not login to my wifi network according to the icon in the top bar. I see all the normal icons in the bar at the top - including if I see that the wifi has connected, I also see that the airplay icon appears there.
However, nothing on the menus can be selected using the touchpad by pressing or tapping or any gestures other than moving the cursor around.
The touchpad does however tell if there are 2 or 3 or 4 fingers down because if I for example put 4 fingers down and swipe to the left I get the dashboard, and if I swipe up with 4 fingers I also see the correct screen.  And if I put 2 fingers down the cursor does not move which is correct - and if 3 fingers down and move, the cursor moves which is also correct (no windows can be opened though so there are no windows to move around).
Also, the applications popup bar at the bottom of the screen does not pop up when the cursor is moved to the bottom of the screen.
Looks like the keyboard is working OK because if I push the power button in the state decribed above, I get a popup window that asks if I want to shut dwon the computer, and presssing the return key chooses the highlighted choice (shut down).
So... pretty useless computer right now, it will start but can't choose anything or open any apps.
    Thanks for any help.

OK got it to work... used external trackpad and for some reason it would operate corectly.  THen the internal trackpad also started working suddenly also.  So problem solved, but no idea what caused it to start working.
