Macbook Air won't turn on after SMC reset

Hello,
The fan on my macbook air had suddenly started becoming very loud intermittently even with no apps running. I tried restarting the computer several times, but the problem persisted for about a week. Looking online, I found an SMC reset might solve the problem. However, after doing the reset, my Macbook now will not turn on at all. There is no startup chime or lights when pressing the startup button. The only thing that happens when I press the power button is that the light on the adapter turns from orange to green for second before turning back to orange.
I have an appointment with the Genius Bar tomorrow, but would like to seen if anyone has any suggestions. Thank You

Try the SMC again:

Then try a Safe Boot;

Any change?
Ciao.

  • 11" MacBook Air won't start even after SMC reset attempt

I press the power button on my Air and the Apple sound chimes, a dimmed grey-black screen appears and nothing else.  I have combed through the communities and the suggestion was to do a SMC reset. I followed the instructions exactly and nothing changed.  I initially plugged into my Thunderbolt monitor and ultimately plugged into power with the standard MagSafe cord. Neither changed the outcome.  I have had this Air since November 2014.
One of my questions about the SMC reset was how could the device recognize actions while the computer is powered off?
    Please help me!
    11" MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

You have to take the computer to the Apple store to have it checked out.

One of the keys you press when resetting SMC is the power button.

  • MacBook Air won't turn on after repairing permissions

    Hi everyone!
I tried to update the software on my new MacBook Air; the updates started downloading and then it stopped because of a network problem. For some reason, my network wouldn't accept it so I thought *checking the permissions*; I asked for a repair, had the time briefly to see the long list of incompatibilities and then, bof, the Mac turned off, as simply as that. I did everything the Troubleshooting page suggested here:
+Press the control key, the command key, and the power button simultaneously and hold for three seconds to try to restart the computer.+
+Reset the PRAM. After pressing the power button, hold down these keys simultaneously: Command-Option-P-R, until you hear the startup chime at least one additional time after the initial startup chime.+
+On the MacBook Air, press (left) Shift-Control-Option along with the power button once. Note: You must use the keys on the left side of the MacBook Air keyboard.+
the only thing I can say is that at times I could hear the fan turning, but although I pressed the luminosity & sound buttons nothing changed.
    I wonder if it's a software problem.
I am frustrated as ****, especially as in my country I don't trust anybody to get close to it
    Any suggestions pleeeeeeease?
    Thank you!

    Hi Guys,
I'm having the same issue with my MBA. Basically, I press the power button, the SIL light flashes once for about 5 seconds, then goes off, then comes back on and I can hear the fans spin up (I have removed the back cover to confirm this). The screen stays black, the keyboard doesn't show any signs of life and the SIL light just sits there. I've tried the usual SMC, PRAM reset, all to no avail. Thought that maybe it could be a POST or boot ROM failure... Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mark J

  • My MacBook Air won't turn on after it fell from 1ft high.

My MacBook Air fell about a foot and got a little wet on the back behind the screen. I don't think that's the problem but I'm not sure. I wiped it off and tried to turn it on but it won't come on. I can hear the fan and other noises but the screen doesn't show any sign of life. What can I do? I live in Belize and the closest apple store is in Florida.

I can pretty much guarantee you that dropping a computer from about one foot as well as getting it wet would void any warranty you might have.  Warranties generally protect against manufacturing defects, not actions caused by users.
I'll leave it to hardware folks to discuss PRAM and other stuff - I'm more of a software / programming person.  But my view is whatever measures may or may not temporarily work, once the poor machine has suffered these fates, it will never reliably work again.

  • My fully charged macbook air won't turn on after a forced shut down??

last night i forced my MBA to shut down because it kept automatically shutting down and restarting by itself. after that, i tried to turn it back on and nothing worked. i tried all those tricks by pressing different keys to turn it back on but none of that worked. i only got this computer like 2 months ago so im pretty annoyed right now.

A two month old MBA is under warranty.  An appointment at an Apple store genius bar will put your Air back in operation.
    Ciao.

    See this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Find the section that applies to your computer, and follow the instructions.

  • My brand new MacBook Air won't turn on all the way.

Hi my brand new MacBook Air won't turn on all the way. If I try to restart it or shut it down, it will go like it is starting up, but goes to a gray screen and stays there. I can see the mouse and move it, but it won't turn all the way on. What is wrong with it? It had been working fine since I got it, but today it hasn't been.

You may have to see if troubleshooting this issue can help, though the instructions on a process of elimination by symptoms are tedious in the following support article, and are suggested to be performed ahead of trying the process described in the title.
•Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
For the actual SMC reset, note subsection in above, instructions click-open on blue text:
    >Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
If the computer does not shut down, and just hangs there, try pressing the power button down for 15 seconds. Check the suggestions in the above article to see if any of them can be used, if the computer will power-up.
There is another item that sometimes can help, but the main issue you say could be resolved by the SMC reset; this other thing is involved NVRAM (non-volatile random access memory) so here's an article about it.
    •About NVRAM and PRAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    >Resetting NVRAM/PRAM opens in above, click-to-see instructions on how to reset.
You may have to call ahead to the nearest Apple Store for an appointment to see a Genius; or at authorized reseller, their service product specialist who should be trained to understand how to proceed, just in case there is a hardware issue behind the symptoms. When you call, be sure to have the serial number and purchase date available, when you call an official store.
Or use the 'Apple - Support - Contact Apple Support' to start the process...

    Hopefully this helps somewhat.
    Good luck & happy computing!

my macbook air won't turn on when it is plugged in.  The light on the connection is orange, not the usual green.

    Orange means charging.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
A green light means that your battery is full or that it can't be detected. If you can't start up the Mac, probably your logic board or battery aren't working.
Take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller to get your battery or logic board replaced. If the MacBook is in warranty, this repair will be free

  • MacBook AIR won't TURN ON!!

My MacBook Air Doesn't turn on. I did everything already, pushing the shift+ctrl+option etc. 5 seconds 10 seconds etc. still no power, there is a green light on the charger but no light or sound coming from the macbook air. This is like only a month old, so there is still warranty. the problem is I have "very important documents" in my macbook air and how would i get assurance that the files won't be corrupted, used, or lost?

    Guys! I HAVE THE SOLUTION!
I hope everyone with the same problem read this!
I posted my macbook AIR won't turn on.
I coulding risk bringing it to MAC Store and leave it there because I have PRIVATE FILES.
I tried almost every other options, instructions in youtube etc. but nothing worked.
    but now it WORKS
All i did was plug it for 24 hours straight. Tried turning it ON again but wouldn't work..
I left it in my room for about 1-2weeks, thinking it was hopeless.
one day I pressed the power button again THEN it came back to LIFE!!
So guys dont lose hope. Try resting it for a few days then try again.
    hope this helps
