Macbook (Airbook) screen flickering/fading into a white screen?! How to fix it?

Hi, I bought the computer in 2010 and have been using it without problems.
Lately it happens more and more often, when I'm using the computer, without attaching to other external screens or other devices (no power adapt connected too), the screen will suddenly turn white little by little and fade out to a whole white screen. While it happens, the computer looks freeze and screen has horizontal white flashing lines. I noticed that it's not related to the battery, either the battery is full or not full, it would happen. Then I have to try to move the lid up and down, then the computer display will turn back and become normal, i don't need to restart the computer or totally close the lid.
Looks like it may have connection problem between lid and the base? Or is it really the display problem? It may happen several times during the day if I keep using the laptop for a day. It's out of warranty, so will I have to give up on the laptop or have to pay an expensive fee to fix it or is it an easy thing to fix?
Thanks so much and I'm eager to know the answer.

If it were sudden, and not gradual, a stronger case for the problem being an electrical connection or cable issue. That the computer freezes may also be contraindicative of a display connection. I would more suspect the graphics subsystem on the main board and heating. You will need a more thorough diagnosis than can be achieved in this venue. I would suggest a visit to an Apple Store Genius Bar or other qualified Authorized Service facility.
If it is the main board, the cost could approach or exceed  that of a replacement unit of the same. You may have to decide whether to repair with used parts, up to replacement with a new unit altogether.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Further on Option 3, this can often be a good choice for older iPads, iPads out of warranty, or if you are looking for a cheaper option than Apple is offering.
Many communities have local repair shops who can fix broken iPad screens.  Try Yelp or another local search tool.
You can also try a variety of National Mail In repair companies who specialize in iPad Repair such as RepairZoom:  http://www.repairzoom.com/ipad-repair.html
Always check online reviews and BBB ratings before sending your iPad off for repair!

  • Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display produces small white spots, how do I clean the screen?

How do I remove the white spots from the Macbook Pro display? The cleaning cloth takes out few of the spots, but I don't want to apply so much pressure on the display, as it may damage it. I'm a little nervous about using liquids, should I? Any solutions? Cloths? Liquids? Etc.

I've noticed that people offer various personal advice on this, but nobody references the engineers who actually designed and built the screen.  I'm assuming Apple did consult the engineers on this issue and they actually took the time to write about it in the "MacBook Pro Important Product Information Guide."  They probably thought it was important or something. ;-)
I'll quote page 2 from the 2012 rMBP version:
"Cleaning the McBook Pro Screen  To clean your MacBook Pro screen, first shut down your MacBook Pro and unplug the power adapter. Then dampen the included cleaning cloth with just water and wipe the screen. Do not spray liquid directly on the screen." (Emphasis added.)
Coming from a machining background, I would recommend using a swirling motion to avoid wearing the screen in a uniform manner.  Take note that this is not explicitly stated in the guide, and is probably not necessary considering the included cloth is so soft that it probably wouldn't affect the screen this way.

  • HT5219 my thunderbolt shows the sleep screen instead of the MacBook Air screen How can I get my screen to show up on the Thunderbolt?

I cannot see my MacBook Air screen on the Thunderbolt display. All it shows is a screen saver. How can I get simultaneous screens to show on the Thunderbolt?

I think changing the symbols from movieclips to graphics helped, thank you.

Right-click on any blank space on the Veetle page. A dialog box will appear, at the bottom will be listed "View page Info." Clicking on "View page Info" brings up a Firefox dialog box with the following tabs: General, Media, Permissions, and Security. Under the Permissions tab there are six functions listed that may be "allowed," or "blocked." Inspect the function for "Set Cookies." If this setting is checked "block," channels will not be displayed in Veetle. In order to recover the channels, "Set Cookies" must be checked for either "allow," or "allow for session."

  • Greyish smudge on Macbook Pro screen, how do i remove it?

Hi there. I bought a macbook pro from a cash converters store. It was online and in the description didn't mention anything about this issue. I can't really explain it very well so here is a picture. I'm sorry it's not very clear but it's only noticeable on a dark screen. I've tried cleaning the screen and no luck.
Is there any way to fix this, if at all? I don't really know very much about macbooks and since i just got this yesterday i have no idea what caused this. Thank you very much for your help.

Are you under warranty? If so, tell Apple about it. This is likely a manufacturing defect, as the dirt was probably introduced during the manufacturing process and is not something you can clean yourself.
    Good luck!

  • There is a blue/black/mostly white band on the right side of my screen, how to fix

Wondering why this band suddenly appeared and how to get rid of it

As it could possibly be a hardware/graphics subsystem problem or the display itself (e.g. flex cable connection), you had best have it physically examined by an authorized service center or a Genius Bar Tech at an Apple Store. Software generally doesn't produce such symptoms if it also visible during an independent boot to a recovery disc or partition.

  • Dim/Dark Screen, How to fix it?

I own a Black 3G iPhone that has recently suffered from water damage. I had fixed it from the water damage a day after it had dropped into the toilet (the toilet was clean thank god) but a series of other problems had occurred after fixing it up. Such as harder to press Home Button, some problems regarding its performance, but nothing as worse as having a Dim/Dark Screen.
I had used it one night from texting and calling people to leave it in my charger cradle for the rest of the night. But that morning I had awoken to my phone being a dim/dark screen. I've tried adjusting the brightness meter but it still was dim. I tried blocking the proximity sensor and the ambient sensor with my finger to see if anything would happen but nothing happened. I opened the phone and gave it a yonder and everything was securely in and dry.
I had already restored it, restarted it, what else could I do to preserve me from going to the apple store.

Nowadays with all the chips/circuitry so embedded into single chip sets and boards a problem in one area will effect the unit as a whole and is unfixable other than to replace the whole board unfortunately but welcome to the disposable generation is one of the downsides of downsizing (pun intended) electrical equipment. you could try to find a repair centre to look at it but it sounds like you have multiple failures over multiple portions of the elec board and i would say by the time you had replaced all the damaged components the total cost with labour and all would be far and above the cost of a new phone sorry but i reckon unless you can live with the issues (which will probably get worse over time as more components are affected) i would suggest looking at buying a new one

  • My iPod does not work properly when plugged into the computer. How to fix?

    I have a 4th generation 40 gigabyte iPod, non-color.
Today, I plugged it into my computer to update my playlists.
My iTunes and Windows were lagged down. Eventually, when things caught up, my iTunes didn't show my iPod as being connected. I looked in My Computer, and it didn't say iPod -- it said "Removable Disk". I couldn't disconnect my iPod via Windows, even using the Safely Remove Hardware didn't work.
After looking around here and trying things like Disk Mode and Resetting the iPod, nothing worked. I can't get the iPod to work with the iPod Updater so I can try restoring it.
I dunno really what to do. If it's a hardware problem, then I'm not going to bother to get it repaired, since the music that's currently on it plays perfectly fine still.
I just dunno what else to try.

    you basically are stuck. apple won't do crap for you. i went to the apple store today because my second ipod crashed (the first one they replaced) and they won't do anything for me and told me i had to buy a new one (2 in 1 1/2 years is what happened) so they wanted me to buy a third one when their product obviously *****. and the manager even basically admitted that the ipod that they claim is durable and relible isn't. that people go through 3-4 a year. the supposed "apple genius" told me to send it out to a third party repair. he wouldn't even look at it and lectured me for not getting the extended warranty. if you look at the website below and read you'll find that a lot of people got screwed over like me with the extended warranty;
    http://www.consumeraffairs.com/computers/apple_ipod.html
put it this way i won't go back to that apple store again or purchase another ipod. ill keep my piece of none working crap

  • MacBook Pro is corrupting media cards - any suggestions on how to fix this?

Memory cards become corrupted when inserted into the card reader slot. When I put the card back in the camera, the camera malfunctions (Error 99 message). I have had the camera cleaned and sent in for repairs, but there in nothing wrong with it. New media cards work until they are inserted into the Mac. Now the Mac is telling me some file formats can't be read, but the format has not changed from previous images it reads off the same card, taken during the same sessions. Images I was able to see on the camera become unreadable after trying to download in the Mac. The Mac is messing up the cards -- corrupting them, so they aren't usable in the camera anymore. I have been told to try using a media card reader, but that is just a band-aid fix. Does anyone know of a real fix that could remedy this problem?

Make sure that you haven't disable background images.

  • Audio is out of sync when importing mp4 into premiere pro CC, how to fix?

Earlier versions had this problem, but while I was working with CS6 it was never an issue. Now it is an issue again. It is not simply the issue of audio lagging, or I could fix that by unlinking and adjusting. The audio is fine in some areas, lagging in others. Sometimes it is the video that is lagging and not the audio. The clips are perfectly fine outside of Pr.
