MacBook Alu (Nov 08): Internet is gone...

I bought a MacBook Alu 2.4 GHz in Nov. 08, and up till now it has worked like a charm both with Wifi and Ethernet. Yesterday in the middle of surfing it suddenly dropped the connection, saying that it cannot fint the page. Airport connection is still working - I did a reset of the Airport Express just to be shure. Then I tried with the ethernet cable: Still no connection, only self-assigned IP whenever I try to renew DHCP lease (I'm using a cable modem, no router). But the 2,5 year old iMac G5 works fine with the same cable (I use it now to post this).
This is terrible as I'm going abroad on Tuesday and need to be online with the MacBook daily. Anybody had the same problems, or know of any solution?

Dear Oy,
Thank you for saving the internet. We would have all felt badly if it had been truly gone...
You might download a free software package called "iStumbler" that reports on WiFi signal strength. If your airport is working then iStumbler will report signals. Then, if you still don't have a connection, you should check in Sytem Preferences>network to see if you have a connection. You can do some repair work from there, depending on the problem. If you did not buy AppleCare in November 2008, I strongly urge you to do so now. Then you can make a free call to Apple and they will troubleshoot for you.

Does anyone know how to connect my MacBook pro to the Internet through the 3G server on my iPhone?

There is a service called Personal Hotspot that uses your iPhone's connection to share with other devices. You will need to sign up for this service through your carrier. Good luck

    Hi Mark,
You need to Update to OS X 10.6.8 = Snow Leopard so you can Update iTunes to Sync your iPhone.
Upgrading to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
    Snow Leopard Tech Specs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    Other countries...

After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard and iTunes.
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...

    Hi,
Simply put(copy) the content of the UVIsoundbaks folder to where you want it. Then delete the original content. Make aliases of the content at its' new location, and move (copy) all those aliases back into the originating folders. Then delete the original aliases. That should do it.
    I'm confused about this.
First, I put the content where I want. Got it.
    Then delete it?
I don't have the room to put it where the application tells me to put it (not enough room on the HD), so I need to put the sample content on a external hard drive.
    Please advise.
    Thanks

  • My Macbook Pro 13" lost Internet connection last night. Why?

My Macbook Pro 13" lost Internet connection last night. It's still out today, but my mother's Windows machine still gets it just fine. What happened to my Mac? The folks at Comcast told me it's a problem for Apple to fix. I'm hoping someone here can give me some insight.

see if there is anything for you.

The MacBook connects to the internet no problem, the iTouch connects to the MacBook no problem, problem is iTouch getting on to the internet through the MacBook. How do I do this

System Preferences>Sharing Check mark the box for "Internet Sharing". Be sure to turn on Wi-Fi in Settings on your iPod Touch, Turn on "Airport" in your menu bar. Works for me.

I wouldn't advise reverting back as a solution, i had the
same issue and after another reboot it corrected it. So just try
rebooting again, and see if that has an effect.

Since downloading and installing Yosemite 10.10 on my MacBook Air, using the Internet via Safari on my Hevanet server has become a rather useless effort due to unreasonable slowness and frequent Gmail crashes when I actually do manage to get through to the Internet.

    What exactly is crashing?

  • My MacBook Pro (nov 2008) had to many windows open and hung.

My MacBook Pro (nov 2008) had to many windows open and hung. With no response I choose to hold down the shut down button till it forced a hardware shutdown and it did. Now it shows the apple on the screen and the spinning thing but after 2hr nothing happens. When I forced it down it happened again. Any suggestion on what else I can do. I don't want to have to leave it at the Mac store for a several days for I have a key presentation Wed. Thanks so much for the help.

You might try a PRAM reset followed by a Safe Boot:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379?viewlocale=en_US
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455?viewlocale=en_US
I've heard it recommended that you wait for the third chime, and then do a safe boot. It will take a fairly long time to do a safe boot.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US
One other thing to do is to boot from your install disc and repair your boot disk. The hard shutdown could have caused some disk damage that needs to be repaired. Repair until there is nothing left to repair. If you find errors that disk Utility cannot repair, then you will need a stronger utility like Disk Warrior or Tech Tool pro.
    Good luck!

  • MacBook connected to the Internet but won't load

I connected my MacBook Pro to the Internet, and I have the three wifi bars. However when I open Safari or Google Chrome it starts loading briefly but stops and then after a while says I'm not connected to the Internet even though it shows that I am.

    HI,
In System Preferences > Network what does it say for the WiFi connection ?
Does it say Connected with a Green Blob ?
Does it list the Network/router name ?
Does the Status say Connected ?
If all these are True then go to System Preferences > Security and Privacy > Firewall tab
In Here is the Firewall On ?
If so then Unlock the padlock if required and go to the Options Button.
IS it allowing Signed Software ?
Is your Browser listed as an Allowed software item ?

  • New MacBook Alu or new MacBook Pro

    Hello
I am considering buying a new MacBook. I hesitate between a MacBook Aluminium, or the new MacBook Pro. What are the differences, and in what the Pro is better? When looking at the specs, it looks like the MB Alu is faster (2.4GHz vs 2.26GHz), and has a bigger HD (250GB vs 160GB). So looks to me that the MacBook Alu is a better option.
Is there something important I'm missing?
    Thanks
    Laurent

Well, then. The Pros have two big advantages: FireWire and the longer-lived battery. The processor speeds don't mean that much in the real world, either, so except for the size of the HDD, I'd lean Pro.
The biggest difference I'd say is the longer battery. I believe the MBP have 7 hour battery lives. The Alu is lucky to get five. I also believe Apple promotes that it lasts longer in terms of long-term health.
The processor difference is a non-issue. You'll never, ever, ever be able to tell the difference between those two speeds doing average tasks. The HD size could be an issue if you have a lot of movies/music/pictures that take up a lot of room.

  • Macbook alu 5.1 ssd

Why only 1,5 Gigabit with intel new 520 ssd on Macbook alu 5.1

    Evening....
Just dropped my new Intel 320 Sata2 drive into my machine.
Its found and negotiated at 3Gig so SATA2 and SATA3 controllers do seem to the key.
Not getting the advertised speeds of the drive, but then I have a lower spec CPU and 4Gig instead of 8Gig of RAM (dunno if that makes a difference, feels like it probably ought to)
My speeds are 123mb/s Write and 225mb/s read
Have an optibay on the way to replace the optical drive, so I'll stick my older 80gig drive in there for more storage (this all really only happened because I was out of storage on the machine)
    Hows the Corsair holding up?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can't do that in AirPlay Mirroring. AirPlay Mirroring can only mirror your MacBook's display, so you can't do one thing in your Mac's display and another in the TV.
This is a feature that will arrive in Mavericks. Read > http://www.apple.com/osx/preview
