Macbook aluminium unibody (not pro) not recognizing my cinema display

hi guys, i have an issue as you can read on this topic, i just purchased a macbook aluminium, and tried to connect my cinema display with the mini displayport to dvi, and does not work at all. when i connect the adapter it seems the machine suddently recognize that theres an external monitor hooked, but the display doesnot show any image. i went to preferences and noticed that the display was not there. my display is an adc connector with the adc dvi adapter. any help

it´s the large one, the one you connect to the adc port and goes to the wall for power, and has a usb cable extension, and a dvi in, the i connect the the mini displayport adapter to the dvi of the adapter and just happen like when you press f7 (in older mac) to choose if you want to mirror the display or not, thats makes me think that maybe something is wrong (the adapter you said), the only thing is that i dont have another dvi monitor to make a test

  • Having problems installing snow leopard. I have a macbook aluminium unibody 13'' running on 10.5.8.

Having problems installing snow leopard. I have a macbook aluminium unibody 13'' running on 10.5.8. I need snow leopard for ios6 and my new iPhone 5. I am trying to install using a snow leopard dvd for macbook pro but it comes up with an error message saying I can't install on this computer. I am pretty sure that my computer is late 2008 and has the spec. Is it because the dvd is for a macbook pro? If so where can I get one specifically for my computer?

    1. Yes.
    2. Phone the online Apple Store and order it.

  • Mid 2009 13" MacBook pro mini-dp to Cinema Display screen jumps from blue to desktop

I'm using a kanex brand iAdapt mini-dp to dvi adapter to connect my macbook pro to my 23" cinema display from early 2007, but it seems like the macbook is having trouble recognizing that the display is connected. The screen will go blue for a second, then show the desktop, then go back to blue. it repeats like this for as long as the adapter is plugged in.
I've gotten the screen to connect properly twice, but as soon as I unplug my laptop and try to plug it back in another day, I run into the same issue as before. I've seen other discussions about screen flickering, but this isn't really a flicker. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this, though it seems likely that this has happened before.
    Any solutions? Thanks!

    Hi,
Create a play list that you wish to burn. Select playlist, the file from main menu which gives to an option to burn the playlist. A pop up box appears allowing you to select burn speed and disc format.

  • MacBook Pro, 27 inch LED Cinema Display and OSX 10.7

I do have a MacBook Pro and 27 inch Cinema Display. To improve the wireless connection I have to open the macbook. Doing so whilst running OSX 10.7 my Cinema Display changes autimaticaly to the settings of the MacBook display.
With OSX 10.6 this was OK.
Is this a bug or does anybody know how to overcome the change in display whilst opening the MacBook ?

Having the exact same issue, same set of circumstances.

  • 09 Mac Pro with Apple 24 Cinema Display or Another Display?

Is the 24 inch Apple Cinema Display the best choice for Final Cut Studio 2 on a new Mac Pro or is there a better non-Apple choice?

I have Cinema Displays on my current setup and like them a lot, never had an issue with pixel response time. When it's time to replace them, I will not be buying the new Cinema Displays, but that's just because I don't like glossy monitors.
Consider also that FCP presents a low-res proxy image to better use resources for real time playback. To truly assess the picture quality an external pro monitor is required, or at the very least an excellent consumer TV.

  • Four monitor setup on 2013 mac pro using old 23" Cinema Displays

My current monitor setup on a 2009 mac pro is four monitors.  Three 23" Apple Cinema Displays (aluminum, mid 2000's) and one large Sony HDTV mounted to the wall as a fourth monitor.
I achieve this via 2 Geforce 120 video cards, each with a mini display port and a Dvi port each.
My question is, can I retain this same exact monitor setup on a new 2013 Mac pro cylinder?  If so, what adapters will be needed, and do they all plug into the thunderbolt ports?
Hearing all kinds of nightmares about multiple monitor problems with the new MP so want to be sure this will work before I drop big bucks.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the quick reply!
For the Tv I'm currently going VGA out of that to a Dvi adapter into the old Mac Pro.  The 3 Cinema Displays are all ether direct Dvi to the video card and two I have to use a Dvi to mini display port adapter.
So for the new Mac Pro, assuming I don't use the HDMI port, I would need Dvi to minidisplayport adapters for each of the 3 cinema displays and a VGA to minidisplayport for the TV?
EDIT: And the mini display ports may as well all be active I guess, and they need to plug into the usb bus for power?
    Thanks

  • Apple TV not working with new 23" cinema display

OK so I finally found a functional use for my new Apple TV, which has been sitting unused in my living room. My MacBook Pro already connects to the HD projector in there, so Mac TV is just less functionality and redundant.
I decided the only use I have for a keyboardless Mac interface for just music, podcasts, photos, and videos is the bathtub.
Being the Mac fanboy that I am, I wanted the solution to be all Apple.
So I headed down to my local Apple Store with the intention of buying a new 23" Cinema Display for my Apple TV and an iPod HiFi for the sound. I was dismayed to see them showing off the Apple TV on Sony LCD TVs. Why wouldn't Apple want to sell people a triple-play package and have it set up as a demo? After all, they weren't selling the Sony TVs anyway.
But my first sign of trouble was the very nice store employee who didn't know if the Apple TV would work on a cinema display. But he definitely wanted to find out when I got home. Searching here, I found posts that seem to confirm that it would work, but the actual source is related to an older ADC cinema display, not the new ones.
I set everything up and used a Toslink-minijack adapter to run the optical digital audio from the Apple TV to the iPod Hifi. I used an HDMI-DVI-D adapter to connect the cinema display to the Apple TV. I powered it all up.
I got the white Apple logo on the screen, then everything went black. I used the Menu and + keys on the remote for 6 seconds to cycle through the resolutions. Still all black. I used the Menu and - keys on the remote to reset to factory settings. Again booted into blackness.
Interestingly, while using the + and - keys on the Apple TV remote, the iPod HiFi volume was lowered and raised simultaneously with the moving of the menu selections in Apple TV (I could hear the clicks). What this means is, 2 remotes, each paired to each device, will be needed for proper operation. This is why having too simple a remote is lame.
At this point I am dead in the bathtub water. I drop more money on Apple than it costs to get a new iMac (which is plan B) just so I can give the Apple TV a shot in my bathroom. But it all doesn't fit seemlessly together on first try.
Any suggestions? Could the HDMI-DVI-D adapter be blocking the HDCP signal needed to display an image? Is DVI-D the wrong adapter to use? Any help is appreciated.

I've not been convinced a monitor will work with the tv, but I have to accept the word of those that have had success. I'm not so certain that a monitor is a suitable first choice, maybe if you have one lying around OK, but to buy one instead of a tv is not only a very expensive alternative but even if it works you will have no way of controlling the brightness etc.
Any suggestions? Could the HDMI-DVI-D adapter be blocking the HDCP signal needed to display an image? Is DVI-D the wrong adapter to use?
Possibly, Did you ever manage to repeat getting the apple logo or indeed anything even if only for a few seconds. DVI-D or DVI-I would be the right connector, don't use a DVI-A

  • MacBook Pro compatibility with old Cinema display

This subject has come up in other posts, but I didn't find my problem. We've just purchased a new 15in MacBook Pro 240/4/320, OS 10.6.4. I want to connect it to a circa 1999, 22" Apple Cinema Display, M5662. This has two connectors, a USB and DVI. I have the DVI adapter to Mini Display port. Nothing shows up at all on the Cinema display with this connected. The display works just fine with an older MacBookPro 1,1 (Intel Core Duo) running on OS X 10.5.8; this hook-up has a direct DVI plug. Apple support thinks its an incapability problem and doesn't really offer any else...they don't support them anymore. Any suggestions?

    Hi Larry!
I know it seems like a silly question, but I believe these older displays had a fancy protocol in the DVI cable that allowed them to power-on automatically when you turned the computer on. This may not be supported through the adaptor. Have you tried touching the small power button area on the front right corner of the display bezel?

  • Bridge CS5 preview / slideshow not working on 27" Apple Cinema Display

I'm using my 2009 (black key) MacBookPro and Mac OS X 10.6.7 running Snow Leopard.
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Adobe Bridge CS5 works beautifully on my MBP, my photography workflow depends on Bridge.
However, when I attach my 27" Apple Cinema Display and try to preview images by hitting the space bar I get a gray screen. Likewise, the slideshow renders only gray.
It's not the "black out other monitor". I've cleared the cache to re-render all the previews.
I've scoured these forums as well as the Apple ones, and the helpful folks currently at Photoshop World in Orlando advised me that, collectively, the kind people here know everything.   I know I can't be the only photographer who uses this configuration. I'd like to use the display for client previews/ordering.
I would so appreciate any tips you may have for me; thank you in advance for your time.
    Warmly,
    Darcy

Yes, thank you. I found that post - among others when researching before I asked. I tried all the suggestions in that one and in the others.
My issue isn't low quality rendering in the preview and slideshow - my issue is NO rendering at all in slideshow and preview. It's just blank. Gray.
I deleted the cache in my library and through the Bridge program itself to rebuild the previews. I tried the various options of "software rendering" on and off, and different configurations in the preferences and none seem to make the preview or slideshow work. I have all the updates from Adobe and from Mac.
I tried importing the photos I need to show my clients (who are coming to my studio this evening!) into Lightroom 3, and the LR slideshow works. But using LR and having to import photos into it is an extra step not in my workflow.
Ideally, I can make Bridge work instead of making yet another resource-consuming copy of these photos on this computer via the Lr library.
So - current state is unsolved.
Lightroom 3 slideshow and preview works, but isn't ideal since it involves importing the images into Lr. Since that works - would that mean my video card is acceptable?
Bridge can show thumbnails on the 27" display but no preview or slideshow.
Bridge preview and slideshow works perfectly on my 15" MacBook Pro.
I'm so disappointed since I bought the 27" Apple Cinema Display this week and was told it would work with my computer "out of the box" - I was sure to ask several times, "so there's nothing else I need to buy or do to make this work with my programs? Just plugin and go?" and several times I was assured, "Yes... plugin and go."
I sure would appreciate anyone who's made Adobe Bridge work with a 27" display. Thank you!

  • Connecting 08 MacBook Pro to new 27" Cinema Display

I have a MacBook Pro purchased in 2008 and am trying to connect it to a new 2011 27" Flat Panel Cinema Display.  The DVI port from the display will not fit into the DVI port in my laptop.  Any ideas why?  Both Apple and our IT people have given us several things to try and nothing has worked so far. Please help!

These are the ports on the left side:
These are the ports on the right side:
And these are the different DVI ports. The top is the one that actually fits into my MacBook Pro (it's connected to an old display). The bottom is a cable we bought that we thought would help convert the mini DVI to DVI but it doesn't fit into my DVI port on the computer.

  • New MacBook Pro & 27" Apple LED Cinema Display Don't Go to Sleep

I recently purchased a new 13" MacBook Pro (MacBookPro8,1) and a 27" Apple LED Cinema Display. When they are connected the computer occasionally has a problem being put to sleep. When clicking sleep, the monitor will take a little while to shut off, but in about 10 seconds, it will turn back on. Immediately when turning on, the image on the screen is quite scrambled (it does correct itself). Usually, if I attempt to put it to sleep multiple times, it will end up working. When it does go to sleep (correctly), the screen will turn off much faster than the times where it doesn't sleep.
Anyone else have a similar issue they found a fix to? When speaking to Apple support, they thought it was part of an issue with 10.6.6, however, the update to 10.6.7 did not solve the issue.
PS - I keep my MacBook Pro lid closed when using the display.

Is your 2.6 the CTO upgrade from the high end 2.3 15"?
Yes, both will work under OSX and Windows. One note, when you boot Windows, you need to unplug the USB from the LED Cinema display or Windows will not boot. Once booted, then plug the USB back in to regain brightness, etc controls.

  • Will 2008 macbook pro work with 27" cinema display?

    November macbook pro 13"
will this work seamlessly with new cinema diaplay?
also - how come it's not HD but 30" is? thanks.

I am using and enjoying my 27" Cinema Display with my October 2008 MacBook Pro 5,1. The display is breathtaking and its operation with my computer is flawless. I strongly recommend that you consider getting an Apple external keyboard and Magic Trackpad to use with your MBP and Cinema Display.
If you have a MBP 5,1 as your post indicates, it has both a 9400M and a 9600M GT GPU, not a 9200M.
