Macbook always boots up in Vista ?

Dose anyone know a way to stop boot camp starting up in vista every time you turn on ?
Thanks Matt

Change the startup disk from the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences in Mac OS X or the Startup Disk control panel in Windows.

  • Boot Camp and Vista SP1

Hi. I have a Macbook Pro running Leopard and Vista. Is it safe to install Vista SP1 in Boot Camp 2.0? I haven't heard of too many issues, but just making sure it wasn't going to break anything. Thanks.

I'm having the exact issues as webcat, but I'm on an iMac 2.8 (early 2008) ATI video & 4GB using 10.5.4/5.
The BC util worked fine through partitioning (32GB) and Vista-SP1 (Ultimate) install, and the the OS-X CD-1 driver update - but once in Vista the stated symptoms showed up. I had initially ran Windows Update, but no Vista Ultimate updates were found. There was also an attempt to run some Apple software update but the pop-up went away before I had a chance to read it.
I have down loaded the BCUpdateVista32.exe and tried to run that (GUI) a few times, but it always fails with the "Boot Camp UI transform Update has stopped working" error - faulting module listed as ntdll.dll 6.0.6001.18000.
So, where to now is my question? I have seen some hope from the Cmd-Line 'softwareupdate' method, or I can run through the registry and 'purge/change' as deemed needed. The confounding thing is that the BC 2.1 update is a Windows EXE, so I need to work in that environment to get it installed, and I had presumed that with my updated 10.5.4/5 before I started, that BC would have been at the v2.1 level.
It seems I may yet need to burn a CD of drivers and and update the supplied OS-X drivers with the BC 2.1 items - is this possible?
Thanks for any help and direction with this.

  • Can a Mini use a hard disk from a Macbook and boot OK?

My Macbook in the shop getting repaired for the RSD problem. I pulled the 120GB HD I had installed and put in the factory HD when I sent it out.
I needed a computer so I bought a Mac Mini with only a 80GB HD. My question is; can I swap out the HD and let the mini use the OS X install from the Macbook and boot up properly or is it like windows and the version of the OS is slightly different due to the hardware?
    MacMini 1.83GHz & Macbook 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hello,
I've done this with the PowerPC Macs (PowerPC to PowerPC), and it's always worked fine.
You should be fine doing this as well. Just don't install it in a PowerPC system since it's an Intel version of OS X.
But, you'll be fine. Understand that you'll likely void the warranty on the Mac Mini, and that removing the drive will be a lot more work than it was in the MacBook.
    But, it will work fine.
If you don't want to risk the warranty on the Mini, then you may want to just get an external FireWire or USB 2.0 portable hard drive enclosure to install the hard drive in (make sure it's Serial-ATA). And, then you can either boot from the external drive, or use that drive to clone it to your Mini's internal drive.
    I hope this helps.

  • I am trying to install windows 8 at my macbook air boot camp

I am trying to install windows 8 at my macbook air boot camp but Boot Camp Assistant i showing an error that the disk cannot be portioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disc and use disk utility to format it was a single Mac OS Extended (journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant Again.
I had already installed teh first time Windows on my MacBook Air and Mac Book Pro. Actually I had more issues to install on the pro than Air.
But my Macbook Air had an issue on November 2013, 3 weeks after buying it and Apple gave me a new MacBook Air but they only transferred the information on my mac and the windows partion was lost according to them, they could copy it in to my new MacBook Air. Now that I am trying to install my windows I can not access to the aprtion section and get the error message from above.
What can I do to to install it? I am using a 32GB USB and OEM Windows 8 at USB External Drive. The same I used before. I dont know understand what changed if I did it before?
    Please advise..

I think there's some remmants left over from when Apple transferred stuff over. We can try a quick fix, but if that doesn't work, I think the only option is to clean install OSX and then install Windows.
open disk utility, confirm that you only have 1 partition (mac journaled)
    restart and PRAM reset
open disk utility and repair permissions twice
    restart boot camp assistant
    Does it work?
If not, I would boot holding command+R, choose disk utility from the menu and completely erase your HD (formatting it as mac journaled again). Then, install OSX on this HD. Once OSX is installed, don't copy your files over from the backup yet. Instead, start boot camp assistant and see if you can get Windows installed. You can copy back your other files after we get Windows installed.

  • MacBook Air Boots to OS, then screen goes dark.

I have recently been working on an older style (A1304) MacBook Air with the 128GB SSD. I've been working on Mac's for years, and have worked on hundreds, but this is the first time I've ever come across this particular issue.
Liquid damaged MacBook Air. Keyboard and Trackpad mainly took the brunt of the spill. Popped off the keys, cleaned it all up. Button for the trackpad no longer works, but everything else does. Entire computer was disassembled, no other liquid was found.
MacBook Air boots up normally, and I was using it for a few hours to make sure everything was working fine. Left it to charge. Came back two hours later, and the screen was dark (but the image was still visible, as if the backlight was not on). Could see the mouse pointer moving, but backlight won't come back on. Turned off computer, turned it back on. Backlight works just fine, and it boots to the OS. Within 10 seconds of booting to OS, the screen goes dark (screen goes completely black with no image). Couple seconds later, light on the front starts to "breathe" indicating it's sleeping. Wake it back up, and image appears on the screen, but no backlight. Then it "goes to sleep" again.
Boot computer to a Flash Drive with Snow Leopard Installer and once the blue screen comes on as if the installer is just about to pop up, it "goes to sleep" immediaetly. Though, the backlight and computer will stay on in the Apple Hardware Test for as long as I want. (ran it several times, "no trouble found". Also reset the PRAM, nothing helps.
I was wondering if anyone has ever come across this. Completely baffled on whether it's a software or hardware (or combination of the both) issue I'm having.

The keyboard and trackpad reside on top of the motherboard and all the components of the computer.  The keyboard and trackpad are not liquid proof.  It is VERY likely that the liquid made its way to the motherboard and has affected those components.  If EVER there is liquid spilled on a computer, the last thing you want to do is A. Turn it on to make sure it is working.. and B. Plug it in and charge it.  Do the EXACT opposite.  Unplug and turn off all power, and, if possible, remove the battery from it.  The liquid itself doesnt do the damage...the damage is done when the liquid comes in contact with the circuits and shorts out the contacts and components.  You could try to connect to an external monitor, if you have the means to do so, to see if it makes a difference, but it probably will not.  I seems that the motherboard is not functioning correctly.

  • Dual booting with Windows Vista/OSX 10.5 Leopard with 2 GPU's?

Can I install a Nvidia GTX280 graphics card in a Mac Pro and use it to play games when booted into Windows Vista and use the included ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT card for booting into OSX? Or is this not possible? Is there any other way to install a GTX 280 card in a Mac? I would really love to buy a Mac Pro but need to be able to install a GTX 280 in it to be able to play games on higher settings than any of the available Apple supported cards.
I know this question may have been asked before so I am apologizing in advance...

  • Macbook Pro boots to a blue screen. Only boots in safe mode

Hi, I am a long time reader, first time poster.
OK so I just go a new Macbook Pro 13' from my school (my school made it mandatory to get a mac this year) and I was installing some of my applications. Then I got the "You need to restart your computer" message. I restarted, and all i got was a blue screen with my pointer. Then after a while it says the same restart message. Also I have tried booting from the Snow Leopard Disk, but I get the same message before the actual SL installer comes up. I have been able to get the Macbook to boot in safe mode and I repaired permissions and the disk, however that does not seem to help. I have also reset the PRAM and that did nothing. I am running out of ideas... how can I fix this?!? Help!

You should not be having kernel panics on a new Mac. Kernel panic causes is sometimes hardware related. Your computer is still under warranty since it's new. You can either call Apple tech support or try the suggestions mentioned in User Tips: Kernel Panics and this article - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1392

  • MBP always boots in removed windows 7 EFI partition

    Hi all,
i have a strange issue: after trying desperately to install windows 7 alongside Yosemite on an early 2011 MBP i gave up and deleted the bootcamp partition.
But now it always boots into a windows blue screen of death, even after i make yosemite the startup disk in system preferences.
I always have to start up with the ALT key and am regularly confronted with the blue screen when i forget.
Booting with the ALT key gives me 2 choices: OS X and 'EFI boot'
Windows is haunting me after i deleted it and come to think that i only wanted to try it out because i could. **** you Windows.
It tells me that windows cannot start and it needs repairs, which is obvious because i deleted the windows partition.
Something tells me that it has something to do with the EFI partition where some windows software has to be installed, but disk utility won't let me delete the partition, because it thinks it's the OS X EFI.
Is there a way to restore the EFI partition to a proper OS X partition or how do i delete it and how?
Thanks in advance for your time and effort,
    Best of regards,

  • How Do I Always Boot From An External Drive

I successfully installed Mac OS X 10.4.8 on an external hard drive. It boots successfully into OS X, but only if you press option on boot and select the drive or if you boot from the drive inside my Mac Mini and go to startup disk and select the external. Is there any way to just always boot from the external drive without doing anything? Thanks in advance for all of your help.
Mac Mini PowerPC Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If booting from a cold start doesn't work but restarting after selecting the drive does work, then most likely the drive isn't ready when the Mac is doing the cold boot.
Try turning the drive on several seconds before turning on the Mac.

  • My IMAC will not boot to Windows Vista

I can not get my IMAC to boot to Windows Vista.  I restart the computer, hold the option key, and it keeps getting hung up on the blank white screen that comes up when you first turn the computer on.  It just sits on this screen forever and never pulls up the two icons that give you a choice of whether you want to boot to the mac side or pc side.  If I don't hold the option key down, it boots to the MAC OS just fine.
I've never had this problem before and I haven't made any kind of major changes to the computer that I can think of, since the last time I booted to windows.  Any help would be appreciated!

I have asked the Hosts to move your post to the intel forum, you are in the PPC area.

  • My macbook wont boot up, black screen and the cd drive keeps making a constant sound. What to do?

My macbook wont boot up. When I turn it on, the screen turns black right away and the cd/dvd drive keeps making a constant "ejecting" sound.
The strange thing though is that once in a while starts up propperly, but suddely goes black again (after a min. or two), and the ejecting sound comes back. What to do, and yh, I've never done a back up so would it be possible to take out the HD and regain whats in there?
    Any help would be appriciated!

  • My macbook wont boot up :-( HELP!!!!

    Hi
HELP!!! My macbook wont boot up.
I was deleting some files off my system last night, Id put them in the trash and deleted them (there was quite alot!!) and the screen gradually went black and told me i needed to restart my computer by holding down the power key.
I tried doingt this but it wouldn't restart.
I left it a while and tried powering up, it seems to turn over once but the chimes dont kick in and nothing happens, the little light (is it the sleep light?) does come on but nothing else.
I really really hope someone can help!

Since you are still using Panther, try booting from your System Install DVD. Try running the +repair disk+ & repair permission options.
See Article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301287 My computer stops responding during startup
If you have AppleCare, suggest that you contact them.

  • Macbook air display problems in vista

i got a macbook air, and i installed vista on it and it worked fine....2 weeks later i power up vista only to find the screen format is out of wack, it has 2 black lines on the side, the kind of lines when you watch 4:9 on a 16:9 screen, its basically like a square in a rectangle....i tried everything and it has not worked, could it be driver problems, or screen problems (screen is fine on leopard, its just a vista issue)
    any help is greatly appreciated

One idea, Vista has automatic update by default enabled. It could be that your graphics driver was updated from the time you installed it. What is the graphics driver version?
