Macbook and (built-in) iSight

About every fourth or fifth time I turn on my Macbook, the iSight (green) indicator light is on--from a fresh start up. There are no applications open (like Photo Booth, for example); only open apps are the usual finder and dashboard. The only way I can get the camera to turn off is to shut down and restart. Anyone else have this problem or know how to remedy it? BTW, my system is current with updates/patches. Tks!!!

SOLUTION FOUND! If anyone else has had issues after installing 10.4.8, resetting RAM (2 chimes after apple/contro/p/r at boot up) may fix--but one thing I neglected to do was repair permissions. When I ran "verify permissions," I found tons of issues. "Repair permissions" fixed it immediately. I'm new to Mac, so I'll add this to my bag o' tricks after major system downloads. Tip courtesy of Tampa's Internation Mall Apple Genius Bar. They rock! Thanks for the other hints.

  • USB Webcam on Macbook with built-in Isight?

Has anyone been able to use an external webcam via USB on a Macbook with built-in iSight?
This should be very straight-forward, but it's not working for me. Is it possible? Thanks.

I have an older logitech 3000 and have been able to get it to work with 3rd party software such as macam and btvpro, but can't use it for Yahoo Messenger or similar programs. It won't work with photobooth either.

    Hi Dennis Moore2,
Does not look like it's working yet. Looks like a driver problem:

  • Macbook Pro built-in iSight in Adium and MSN Messenger?

All of my contacts (about 100 or so) have MSN messenger accounts. Is there a way for me to use my built-in iSight as a webcam in Adium or MSN Messenger? It just seems pointless otherwise since I only know 2 or 3 other people with .mac or AIM accounts that I could chat to via iChat.
    Thanks

  • MacBook Pro Built-in iSight not found.

As the title suggests the built-in iSight camera on my MacBook Pro has stopped working.
All i get when i try and start photobooth is "photobooth cannot open b/c no camera is attached or the camera is in use by another application. Make sure digital video camera is attached and turned on. If you are using the camera with another application close that application before opening photobooth again.", in Skype and iChat the camera just does not show up at all.
    Things i have tried to figure this out;
    - Restarted in safe mode and rebooted.
    - Created a new user account.
    - Cleared the PRAM.
    - Reset the SMC.
I had gotten it working a few days ago via some random combination of the above, but it has gone again now and nothing i'm trying is bringing it back.
This has become a really annoying issue, esp. as it would be really nice for my girlfriend (currently in the US) to see me when we talk.
I'm going to make an appointment to see the techs at the Apple store, but i'd really like to get around this issue without it having to be sent off as i am a contractor and this is the machine i do all my on site work on.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

    Thanks for your reply Ralph.
This does seem to be a strange intermittent problem. On Wednesday i started Skype and the camera was working. It proceeded to work for an hour or so, then abruptly stopped working. I restarted and it worked again, until i moved the screen back a little, then it stopped again and i couldn't get it back.
Now this morning i start my laptop at work and photobooth is working again.
I haven't taken it to the store yet as i bet 9/10 it will work for them until i get home lol.
I was wonder also though if there could be some process running that would cause it to lock up. That or could it be a little more serious like loose wiring?
    Thanks again,
    Rei

  • Can I use my MacBook's built-in iSight camera to record footage in FCE?

I want to know if I can use footage I shot with the built in iSight camera. My regular video camera is not working, and I have some footage taken from my iSight camera. Is there anyway I can use my built in iSight camera in Final Cut Express 4?

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2264
you can also capture from your iSight using Quicktime Player and then export the movie for use in FCE

  • Skype and built in iSight on my MacBook Pro...

I would like to video chat with my young grandson, but all they see is a beginning snapshot of me. My son has the latest version of Skype and so do I (he is on a pc) but we can't seem to get video to him, even tho my little window shows the video of me. I have checked all the preferences etc, and it is getting frustrating. Any suggestions? One more thing - I am currently in the Cancun area of Mexico, so am not sure if there is anyone who can help me here. If it is very technical, I am going to need a graphic description, I am not super savvy about tech stuff. If someone can promise me they can fix this, I will offer a great place to stay for a few days here in paradise while you are working on it.

    Hello Isla-Maggie
Here are some links for your best solutions.
All are non-technical, and on-site assistance really shouldn't be necessary.

  • MacBook White Built-in iSight Camera stuck on after 10.7.3 upgrade but not producing video

I upgraded today the OS of my iMac and MacBook from Lion 10.7.2 to 10.7.3. The iMac is fine but the MacBook is always having the iSight camera on (light is constantly green.) But no video is produced in Skype, FaceTime, and iChat. I rebooted several times with no results. The green light is always on. Any advise to solve this issue is greatly appreciated.

I updated three Macs to 10.7.3 with no trouble.  I credit ALWAYS using the Combo Update for my reliable updates:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1484
If you have trouble later, try applying the Combo version.  Even if you are already using the same version, the Combo may fix your problem.
Use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions before updating and again immediately following the system restart that completes the Combo update.

  • MSN Video and built in iSight ?

    Hello all,
Well, the title of the post speeks for itself. Is there any way to to set up a vieo conference via msn using the MBP's iSight ?
    Thanx in advance

    Hello,
I downloaded the latest aMSN onto my MBP because I heard that it supported the nice camera onboard the computer. I recently migrated from PCs and like the apples a lot better. All my friends, family etc have MSN accounts so I am trying to figure out how to get the video to work. When I tried to open a video conversation it aMSN said the request was closed. I tried the help section and it says that I am behing a Firewall or router. Is there any way to get around this issue? I use the computer at work (ethernet at University), at home (cable), and in coffee shops (wireless). I don't think that I can go and reconfigure any router settings to fix an IP address for the camera to use at all those places. In any case I would have to do it every time even if I could. I saw some of you have gotten the program to run the camera with aMSN, please help!
    Thanks.

  • New MacBook with built in iSight problem

Green light is on but when I go to photo booth or iChat the screen is black?
I can't take pics or video:(

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, klassikgirl
Having tried all the suggestions on the boards, I think you should take it back to the retailer and exchange it for one that works. The problem cannot get better with time, and a same day exchange for a non-functional Mac should be no problem.

  • MacBook and iSight crashes

I recently purchased a MacBook with built in iSight.
Whenever I start an iChat video call on the MacBook, 1/2 second into the call iSight crashes.
I have tried different AIM and .Mac accounts.
I have an existing Mac Mini with external iSight that works normally on the the same wireless network.
    Help!

    1) Thanks, will do this
    2) Yes Airport express: I have 3 airport express linked to a cable router
I do not know if I have port forwarding
I use DHCP when I use my Mac to connect to the Network at work
    3) I ran this again, and yes it did crash, full log below.
I am not that familiar with all the tech jargon. I set the network up myself using the airport setup assistant.
    Thanks again, Ralph

  • Macbook built in isight not working

first off, isight is recognized in system profiler....however, the green light does not come on, and no software (photobooth, imovie, ichat a/v, iris, etc.)can use it. i,ve tried everything in all posts regarding isight troubleshooting. Just trying to figure out if theres anything else i can do before i send it off for repair.

    Welcome to Discussions, kmcleod
You have landed in the Power Mac G4 (MDD) and (FW 800) Forum.
Having tried everything in all posts regarding isight troubleshooting, your only remaining option for fixing your MacBook's built-in iSight is to contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • External webcams -- do any work with built-in isight?

I have an intel Macbook with the built-in isight camera. I'd like to be able to use an external web cam -- but I can't get any to work -- the machine simply ignores them.
Can anyone tell me which, if any, external cams have worked with this setup?
And for those who may ask -- the isight works fine, but I'd like the flexibility of having a cam on a cord so I can point it around the room without have to move the entire laptop.
    Thanks,
    John

This appears to be the closest thread I could find regarding the use of external webcams with OSX.
I recently acquired an XBox 360 webcam which for all of my pre-purchase research told me was suprisingly compatible with Macs. I am running 10.4.11 on an Intel Macbook, but the webcam does not produce an image. Before I accept the reality that I've possibly purchased a faulty camera, I wanted to check here to see if perhaps I needed a driver, or some additional software to make it operative. I've installed the most recent MacCam app as a precautionary measure although my understanding is that the XBox 360 should run natively on Tiger and above, a simple plug & play. Although the camera is recognized in my System Profiler, again it doesn't produce an image, nor does it appear to to powering up via the 2.0 USB port, not even with the addition of MacWeb.
I'm I missing something, or have I just purchased a lemon? Any feedback?
macam is not required for your XBox 360 Live webcam (or any other UVC webcam) when used with Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later. You can uninstall it from your 10.4.11 Mac.
If you have not recently done so, shut down your Mac and do a cold boot (not merely a "Restart.") If restarting your Mac does not correct the problem, try all suggestions related to built-in iSight from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
(You can use the suggestions for your webcam because both it and built-in iSight are USB cams.)
If your ONLY problem is with one particular app that is supposed to use a webcam, you may simply need to reinstall that one app.
However, if the testing suggested there shows that your webcam problem occurs in all apps in more than one user account, the reset suggested there may restore proper webcam function.
However, if your XBox 360 Live webcam still does not work after carefully following all relevant suggestions in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight" article but it does show as a USB device in your Mac's System Profiler, your problem may be with your Mac OS. Try applying the 10.4.11 Combo Update using the following process:
    • Use Disk Utility to repair permissions.
    • Download and install OS X 10.4.11(Intel) Combo Update: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL172
(PPC Mac users should use http://support.apple.com/kb/DL170)
    • Immediately after the restart that completes the update, repair permisssions again.
If necessary, use the suggestions from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 again after applying the Combo Update to determine if the symptoms are the same.

  • Built-in iSight produces heavy load (Tiger) using flash applications

On my MacBook the built-in iSight produces a heavy processor load when the camera is used in a flash application and the skype viedo beta.
The load is about 120% in Firefox, Safari and Skype, when the application connects to the iSight camera. In other applications (iChat, photoBooth) I don't have that problem. Under Windows, the same application in the same Browser (Firefox) works just fine with round about 11% processor load.
Does anyone else has this problem (maybe in other applications) ??

I like the idea to put a camera in the computer.
I have not seriously used a macintosh since 1992, when I was in 2nd grade. Ever since I tinkered on my dad's mac now and then when he was not looking. But, I need to know where in the settings do I go to enable the built-in iSight camera to work on the web or any flash application
