MacBook and Cinema Display Question

I have a MacBook and need to know if it will work with a 30 inch Cinema Display.  I think it will, but need to check since I have one that can be sent to me. The Thunderbolt displays do not work with the MacBook, which I did not realize until I tried it.  My MacBook is about 3 years old.
Any answers are appreciated.  Thank you so much!

I should clarify that my MacBook is a white MacBook, was probably new in 2009, and worked perfectly fine with a 24 inch Cinema Display.  That one died and I can either spend $600 on getting it repaired, buy a refurbished one, or use a 30" one that a friend has and is no longer needing it.  It's good to have friends, I just want to make sure it will work before they send it.

  • IMac and Cinema Display cable winders

Does anyone know where you can get those cool little flat squareish cable winders that you can stick onto the back of iMac's and Cinema displays.
They look sort of like this sketch

I can't find them, after seeing them on the web a while ago.

  • Color with Macbook Pro 15 inch and Cinema Display

    Hi Guys,
    Had a quick question.
Do you think if i got the New Cinema Displays and connected it to my MBP 15 it would work?
Because it states color cant work great with my macbook pro screen. So if i hook up the Display would that work or does it depend on the video card in my MBP?
Hope i explained my self good.
Thanks in advance for your help.

To add to Mr. Owens response, sure, it may boot as a second screen but then you need a dedicated input/output device and proper production/broadcasting/grade monitor to actually see what you're doing. How will you achieve this with your rig?

  • Can`t fully connect Macbook Pro and Cinema Display!!

Hello. I recieved yesterday a Macbook Pro 15 and a Cinema Display 27. When I connected them the weirdest thing happens: the display turns on and off along with the Macbook, and the screen savers are the same in both, and when I move the cursor it moves in the Display, but except this nothing else shows me that there is a connection between them. All that appears in the Display is the original wallpaper, not a single icon or anything else.
    What can be happening.
    Thank you.
    Sebastian.

It sounds like you're not using the mirror display setting, so you're seeing the extended desktop on the external display, which is the default setting by the way.
Also note: the external connection won't be maintained if the MacBook is on battery power only.

  • 24-inch Cinema Display and Mid-2010 Macbook Pro - Cinema Display still flickers after updates

I currently have a 15-inch Macbook Pro (mid 2010) hooked up to my 24-inch Cinema Display.  I have updated all the firmware for both the Cinema Display and the Macbook Pro but still get intermittent flickering.  Moreover, I have cleared the PRAM and VRAM.  I have done ever possible update I can find, the system is fully functioning.  Help?

I am having this exact same problem.  2010 iMac with NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256MB.  I have it hooked to a 30" display through a DisplayPort to DVI-D adapter.  The 30" is fine, but I have graphical corruption constantly on the main iMac screen.
This all started as soon as I updated to Yosemite a couple days ago.

  • Macbook Air and Cinema Display

I am looking to purchase a cinema display for the mac book air and am curious which size would be best to use? I'm going for biggest and per specifications the 23" looks like it would work but with possible resolution loss. I am trying to avoid the resolution loss but want the biggest size. Again, I am looking for the best cinema to go with the mac book air without major quality loss.
    Thank you.

On the specs it states 1280x800 is the max resolution. So if mirroring is off it will output a much higher resolution?
You only read the part of the video specs that's about the internal monitor. Only the internal monitor is limited to 1280x800. Further down there is a section that says
Extended desktop and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 1920 by 1200 pixels on an external display, both at millions of colors
It will drive the 23" no problem. The only Apple monitor the MacBook Air can't drive at full res is the big 30".
Apple doesn't organize the video portion of the tech specs all that well, so whenever you check the tech specs page for an Apple product with external video, be sure to locate both the internal and external display specs.

  • Retina MacBook Pro + Cinema Display = Only 25% of images visible when opened

Every single time I open an image, I can only see 25% of it. I have to hit Cmd+, Cmd- to zoom in & out every single time. It's ridiculous. I think the problem might have something to do with the fact that the retina display has twice the pixel density. This is just a theory, but I'd bet money that it's the culprit. I just realized that the problem doesn't exist when I don't have my external monitor plugged in.
Here's what I see on the external 27" monitor:
Then after hitting Cmd+, Cmd-, this is what I see (this web form has scaled this image down, but you get the gist):
Can someone please tell me how to avoid this maddening annoyance? I've contacted Adobe Tech Support, and they can't help me with this problem. They have given up; they simply ignore my emails at this point.
I'm using the latest version of Photoshop CC on a fairly new 15" retina MacBook Pro with a 27" non-Thunderbolt Apple Cinema Display.
    Thanks,
    Matt

Ah, it's nice to have a friendly and knowledgeable person replying to my question for a change.
Here are my display settings from Mac systems prefs:
The problem exists regardless of the Application Frame setting or the zoom tool's Resize Windows to Fit setting. I'm using windows, not tabs. Here's another example of what I see when I open an image:
And here's what I see after hitting Cmd+ followed by Cmd-
It's really just an incredibly annoying inconvenience.
    Thanks for your help!

  • CONNECTED TO LEAVE MY MACBOOK LED CINEMA DISPLAY

HELLO FRIENDS MY QUESTION IS: IS SUITABLE LEAVE MY MACBOOK CONNECTED TO LED CINEMA DISPLAY ALL THE TIME OR MORE AND CONNECTING TO COMPLETE THE CHARGING THE BATTERY.
    TKS

Take a look at the Displays preference panel to see if everything is ok, particularly the resolution and refresh rate.  Displays will probably try to put the panel for the ACD on the ACD where you won't see it.  So click "Gather Windows" to get the ACD panel on to your macbook.
One more thing, make sure you fully seated the mini displayport plug.  They can be sneaky little devils in that they need to be fully pushed in.

  • Mbpr and cinema display

Is it possible to plug a 23 inch apple Cinema Display into a late 2012 15 inch  MBP retina, and if so what cable converters would I need?

    thanks for the reply
just a couple more questions please:
does the magsafe power have to be connected to the macbook (different size fitting from my 2008 macbook - thats why Im asking) and will the monitor be able to be used at its native resolution?
    thank you in advance

  • DVI KVM switch to use with iMac and Cinema Display

I currently have a 20" iMac that I use with a 20" Cinema Display. I'd like to share the Cinema display between the iMac and a Dell computer. Assuming this can be done, are there any recommendations for a DVI-KVM switch? Most important is no loss in video quality when the Cinema display is used with the iMac. The Dell is seldom used and even a straight DVI switch without mouse and keyboard sharing would be OK.

I am also trying to link a Mac Mini and a HP PC with an nVidia FX5500 graphics card via a KVM switch. The mini works fine but the PC does not sync up and the screen is blank and the little white light on the lower right is blinking.

  • Help with a weird problem: MB Air, Internet, and Cinema Display

I have the first MacBook Air, running the latest Leopard release.
I use an Airport Extreme with Verizon FIOS.
I have no problems connecting with the Internet (knock on wood) on the Air. However, when I use a 23-inch Cinema Display (not the most recent CD) with the Air my Internet connection slows to a crawl, or I can't connect at all. I unplug the CD from the Air, and I can connect to the Internet again quickly.
Any idea what the problem is?
The Air works well with the CD. The only problem is when I use the Air connected to the CD and access the Web.
Thanks in advance for any help.

The Air is plugged in, and all appears to be OK with the Air's power. Same with the Cinema Display. The Air appears to have the power to render properly on the Cinema Display but not enough juice left to engage its built-in wi-fi to access the web? I am at a complete loss on this one. Will be calling Apple support or stopping by the Genius Bar, as I have one other item (different computer) I must deal with.
    Thanks.

  • Macbook w/Apple Display Questions

    Hi,
    Two questions:
    1. Would there be three connections between a Macbook and a Apple Display?
    a. DVI
    b. USB
    c. Firewire
    2. How would the Macbook (1 FW 400 and 2 USB 2 ports) treat the 4 USB's and two FW 400 ports on the display?
    Thanks!
    Donny

To connect one of the current (aluminum) Apple displays to your MacBook, you'll first need the mini-DVI to DVI adapter. This will connect to your MacBook's mini-DVI port and then the display will connect to the full-sized DVI port on the adapter. You can connect the USB and/or FireWire cables from the display if you want. It's not required.
If you do connect the FireWire cable to your MacBook, the display acts as a FireWire hub and will allow you to connect two FireWire devices. These continue to run at the full 400Mbps speed of FireWire.
If you do connect the USB cable to your MacBook, the display acts as a USB hub and will allow you to connect two USB devices. The hub inside the current displays is a powered USB 2.0 hub so you should be able to plug-in any USB 1.1 or 2.0 devices.

  • Windos XP and cinema displays

Hi. I just bought my first Apple Cinema 20" and have some questions. I bought it for my next PC which I am close to buying, but haven't yet. My current XP has a Matrox Millennium G550 (duel display with DVI) but it doesn't work with that. I am assuming that it is the card - its about 4 years old. After reading a bit, I see that the card must have DDC technology. I can't find reference to that on the web page of my future card, which will be an nVidia Quadro FX1700. The users guide that came with the monitor suggests reading article 301066, but I can't find that either! Any help would be much appreciated! At least if I have some major problem with my configuration, I am in a position to correct some major obsticle as I just bought this monitor a few days ago.
One more question - I was told that the 20" model only goes up to 1680 x 1050. Is that correct?

It definitely won't work from that cable because the ACD cannot run from an analog signal at all. It needs a digital video signal to operate. If you have a newer Xbox with the HDMI connector, you could try that. Some have claimed this works, although supposedly you get a repeat of the top of the screen near the bottom to reconcile the difference between 1080 lines of 1080p and the 1200 lines of the 23" ACD. And if you don't have the 23" ACD then don't even bother unless you want to invest in a very expensive converter like this one:
