MacBook and Final Cut Studio 2

I am looking to purchase a Mac to edit short and independent films. I was thinking of getting the base MacBook and wondering if that Mac is capable of handling Final Cut 2 or Final Cut Xpress. If it is great, if not then what Mac should I get to perform the editing of the films.

I would get a MacBook Pro for that.

  • Sony HDR-CX7 and Final Cut Studio 2 ???

    Hey there people,
I live in Australia and I am new to this forum & couldn't actually locate a specific thread for my questions so hopefully anyone could be of assistance.
Basically, I have just bought a Macbook Pro 2.4ghz notebook, Final Cut Studio 2 and a Sony HDR-CX7 hi def camcorder.
Has anyone come across issues with Final Cut Studio picking up the hi def clips straight from the Sony camcorder when you try to import files to Final Cut? After some research, it seems as though this can simply be fixed by buying a FireWire cable to connect from the camcorder straight to the FireWire port on the notebook. Is this correct??
Any assistance would be great or if anyone knows of a link to a thread specifically for the Sony HDR-CX7 and Final Cut Studio 2. The standard def seems to work ok but the hi def isn't picked up on either the Macbook direct or Final Cut Studio. I just would like to ensure that i am able to use the camcorder hi def with Final Cut
    Cheers!!

You should be able to transfer from the camera to FCP through the log and transfer window with a FW cable... FCP 6.0.1 added AVCHD support anyway...

  • G4 and Final Cut Studio 2?

I'm running a dual 1GHz power pc G4. Thinking about installing Leopard and Final Cut Studio 2. I'm editing DV not HD. Is my G4 going to handle? Or, should I think again?
    Thanks,
    m

Don't do it. You will hose yourself big time like I did. Final Cut Studio 2 requires a processor speed of 1.25GHz or faster. It does not care thet you have a dual 1GHz. I have a Dual 1GHz G4 as well and FCS2 would not work. I had to uninstall it and start over by installing my first version of FCP and all of the upgrades to get it back to 5.1.2.
    Hope it's not to late.

No, FCP X will only work with Compressor 4.

  • MacBook 2.16Ghz Black and Final Cut Studio 2

    Hello,
    Is the black MacBook with:
    2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2GB memory
    200GB hard drive1
    Double-layer SuperDrive
Capable of running Final Cut Studio 2? Obviously I would probably need more hard drive space to edit a proper video so I'm thinking of buying a firewire hard drive as well but for now I would be editing videos that would be no longer then 30 minutes and recorded with a SD camcorder, not High Definition video.
Final Cut Studio 2 says it requires:
An AGP or PCI Express Quartz Extreme graphics card (Final Cut Studio is not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors)
    and
A display with 1024-by-768 resolution or higher
I couldn't see anything on the online store (mac) to tell me if this macbook has either of those. I assume it'll have 1024x768 but I know nothing about graphics cards.
If anyone can let me know about this I would GREATLY appreciate it.

    No.the MacBook's integrated GPU can't handle FCS 2.
Although it easily handles Final Cut Express.

  • MacBook/Macbook Pro and Final Cut Studio

I am about to buy a Mac, but im not sure if I should get the MacBook or MacBook Pro? Which is better suited for Final Cut Studio? Is there a specific version of the MacBook/MacBook Pro that would be best? Thanks so much!

Exactly. It will install, but if you have any problems and you need to call Apple, they won't give you any support. If you're going to spend $1,200 on some software, you should pay for a computer that supports the minimum requirements.

  • MacBook Pro and Final Cut Studio 2

Hello, all. I currently have Final Cut Studio 1 (with Final Cut Pro 5, DVD Studio Pro 4, Motion 2, LiveType 2, Soundtrack Pro, and Compressor 2). I have an old PowerMac G4 from 2003, which Motion doesn't work on (and DVD Studio Pro doesn't run so great on, either - I haven't worked with Soundtrack Pro, LiveType, or Compressor too much). I'm thinking about buying a new MacBook Pro, and I'm wondering if all of FCS 1 (and especially Motion) would work on either the 13" or 15" models.
If I got a 13", here would be the specs:
    2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
    250GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
    SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
    NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics
If I got a 15", here would be the specs:
    3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
    500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
    SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
    NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 512MB
Anyone have any experience with running an older version of FCS - or even FCS 1 - on a setup like the ones I described above?
    Thanks, everyone,
    Kevin

Short answer: 13", no, 15", yes

  • Macbook 2.0 and Final Cut Studio?

I need a notebook computer for traveling as supplement to my G5 dual 2.5 G5.
I would like to just go for a Macbook. It looks to be a snazzy computer at a very good price. But I've heard that the graphic card is not really sufficient for Pro applications.
So my question is: Can Final Cut Studio be run succsessfully on a Macbook 2.0 GHz with 2 GB of RAM?
    Dual 2.5, 4.5 GB RAM, 30" Cinema Display,   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

While the other responses are correct in that you will see somewhat better performance with a MBP, I have to tell you that the MacBook can run FCS perfectly well. I own both the MacBook and the MacBook Pro and I am running FinalCut Studio on both. The performance gains on the MacBook Pro are very marginal, and I would not consider them enough to justify the higher pricetag. Now for a more graphics-intense app like Motion, or Shake, yes, the Pro will be required. But for your situation, wanting to make some edits and do some work in FCS on the road, the MacBook will be fine. I would suggest a RAM upgrade to at least 1 gig, and optimally 2 gigs. Good Luck!

  • Firewire and final cut studio 2 question

I just got a Macbook Pro and I'm loving it! I also have Final Cut Studio 2 and i'm anxious to start playing. my question is about what type of firewire i need to get to capture video from my Canon hv20 camcorder. which is better, a 4-pin or a 6-pin? I see from a previous post that the 6-pin can supply the camera with power. I'm not so concerned about that, I'm just wondering what are the other important differences (if any) between 4 pin and 6 pin? differences in speed? vid quality? and if i decide to buy an external hard drive to keep my video files on, does that change my decision? thanks for any advice/answers!

+"I'm just wondering what are the other important differences (if any) between 4 pin and 6 pin?"+
Just two wires that carry power. A 4 pin connecter is a differnt shape to a 6 pin and are not interchangeable. All miniDV cqameras use a 4 pin system.
    +"differences in speed? vid quality?"+
    No different.
+"and if i decide to buy an external hard drive to keep my video files on, does that change my decision? thanks for any advice/answers!"+
Not at all. An external drive will require a 6 pin cable.
From camera to external 4-6 pin.
From external to Mac 6-6 pin.
This info assumes you are using firewire 400. Some Macs have firewire 800 which requires a different cable to the 6 pin.

  • Macbook and final cut express.

Hi. All can anyone answer me this. Why oh Why the @$^&*(£ **** you can't use fcp express on a macbook? and are stuck with imovie. I thought having read the website it was compatible with dual macbooks but oh no you have to have a agp graphics card what a con!!!!!!!!! this now means i have to go get a macbook pro. Don't get me wrong i love apple stuff and have g5 dual tower etc... but need to do stuff on laptop and am getting fed up with this. So if anyone has a solution to get it to work i would be very grateful.

    Hi guys
Final Cut Pro DOES indeed work on a Macbook. I have discussed it with both a Genius bar employee at an Apple Store, as well as an Apple-Certified Final Cut Studio professional.
I am currently running the entire Studio 1 (with the exception of DVD Studio Pro, but only because I did not have enough drive space) on my 2.2GHz 1GB Macbook.
You just need to be aware of the amount of hard drive space you use (the studio takes up several gigs in itself, and you also need to allot yourself at least 10g for batching, rendering, and exporting.
I run it fine with 1 gig of memory.. but if you want it to run well, get a memory upgrade!
    best of luck!

  • MacBook and Final Cut

    Grretings-
I am involved with film editing and production (small scale) and had a nice little 12 inch Power Book. unfortunately it was stolen and the insurance would barely even cover the purchase of a Macbook. I like the smaller computers anyway.
My major problem is the seemingly incompatability of final cut with the mac book (despite upgrading the memory to allow a program like it to operate...?)
I was told by an Apple store employee that some kinds of final cut work and I have also seen posts regarding the use of Final Cut on the MacBook.
    Any ideas?
    Any help?
    Any funky computer tricks?
I will send you my latest movie ....
    Cheers for the help.

You have to run the Universal Binary version of Final Cut Studio or Final Cut Express on any Intel-based Mac. These applications will not run in Windows, they've been compiled to run in Mac OS X on either a PowerPC or an Intel processor. Final Cut Express HD 3.5 should cover the vast majority of your video editing needs. It is supported by Apple to run on the MacBook.

  • Final Cut Studio and Final Cut Studio 2

At work, we have a Mac Pro running Final Cut Studio (original) and recently acquired a G5 and would like to purchase Studio 2 for it. Are Studio 2 projects compatible in any way with Final Cut Studio? Are there any compatibility packs for this?

FCP projects are not backwards compatible so a project created in FCP 6 will not work on FCP 5.
The workaround is using [XML exports|http://developer.apple.com/appleapplications/fcpxml.html].

  • Mac Book Pro and final cut studio 2

    Hi,
Bought a MBP last year and am looking to purchase Final Cut Studio 2 Universal. After looking through some discussions I'm still unsure how well this package will run with my setup. Yes it will be fine, or yes it will run but with some limitations, or yes it will run but I should get a different video card, etc.....? A definate yes or no would be appreciated and any limitations or known issues. I will be using a120GB external hard drive for my video footage.
    Thanks, Mick
Sorry if this is posted in the wrong area or if these questions have been answered. I'm new to Macs and forums and wouldn't like to spend that much cash on a maybe!
    Mac Book Pro 15   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Intel core duo 2.16 GHz 2GB ram/Radeon X1600 256Mb 80GB hard drive

    Yes, it will be fine.
The only limitation is Color which needs an external screen with at least 1650x1050 to be kind of useful though it runs at smaller resolutions.

  • Installing and Using Logic Studio and Final Cut Studio 2 On the Same iMac

In March of this year, I switched from being a long-time user of PC's to a 24 in. 2.4 GHZ iMac. In late May I purchased Final Cut Studio 2 and Aperture and have greatly enjoyed using both of these applications on my iMac. Both run with no problems under Leopard which I installed shortly after it came out. I am now considering the purchase of Logic Studio since I have enjoyed midi sequencing and audio editing for years on my PC's but wish now to do this on my iMac.
I note that two of the applications included in Logic Studio (Soundtrack Pro 2 and Compressor 3) are a part of the Final Cut Studio 2 suite of programs that I already have installed on my iMac. How will Logic Studio handle this issue when I run the install of that software, i.e. will it be aware that I already have Soundtrack Pro 2 and Compressor 3 and just have those install options grayed out or will it overwrite my FCS2 installation of those two applications? Are there other issues or conflicts between Aperture or Final Cut Studio 2 applications and Logic Studio that I should know before installing Logic Studio?
Thank you very much in advance for responding, and I look forward to reading this forum from this point onward.
    Tom

Thanks again for your prompt responses, blayzay. I look forward to getting and installing Logic Studio. If anyone has any precautions on using it with FCS2 or with Leopard, please add a comment to this thread.
