Macbook and isight auto-turns on!

Hi
I've bought a new macbook, the middle one, and i don't have reinitialized it, so i have the original tiger installation.
I know which software i have installed, but i don't understand why my isight auto turns on randomly!
Happens some time, i see the green light, but i have not opened any software that use the webcam and, if i try to start ichat, it says that the webcam is already in use....
So, it's an hardware problem? it's happen only to me?
Thanks for your attention.
Luke77
Macbook Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Hi Luke,
check your dock for any application opened that might use your iSight. Any application open will show black arrow/triangle at the bottom of the icon.
Suspected application are iPhoto, Comic Life, Instant messenger, etc.
Also reset PRAM and SMC on your macbook:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319
And repair your permission by opening application folder > utilities > disk utility > repair permission.
Update your software and hardware to the latest and do another repair permission after that.
Good Luck.

  • Macbook keyboard backlight auto turn-on when room is dark?

I have a late 2013 13" Retina Macbook Pro (running Mavericks) and am a relatively new OSX user. I know that I can modify keyboard backlight settings and have the brightness level adjust automatically (similar to how the screen brightness adjusts) however I don't actually want the keyboard's backlight on when the room is light. The fact that the auto-adjust setting makes the keyboard brighter in a light room is annoying to me.
Is there any way to have the backlight automatically turn on ONLY when the room is BELOW a certain brightness threshold. Perhaps there is a 3rd party app that can add this functionality? Manually pressing F5 and F6 works fine, but ideally I'd like to have this automated somehow.
    Thanks!

Billy_budd,   Unfortunately it's not even that things are finicky for me. I haven't experienced any auto-turnon functionality at all. Are you running Mavericks? I've seen some older posts referring to this being a possibility. Is there a specific way you've enabled this option? I don't see anything in my settings.
If I select the tickbox I've highlighted in the screenshot below, the brightness of the keyboard mimicks the auto-audjust behaviour of the screen's backlight. With it unchecked, I have to use F5 or F6 to see any keyboard brightness changes. I haven't experienced the keyboard automatically turning on when the lights turn off.

  • I receive Security Information Required message when I try to rent an itunes movie from my apple tv. I rent fine from my macbook, and have sharing turned on, WTH?

My apple tv appears to work fine, watching netflix and other apps. but when I try to rent an itunes movie I receive the Security Information Required message. I have sharing turned on, the apple tv and macbook are logged into the same apple ID.
    WTH?
    pretty frustrated.

It's telling you to verify your payment details. You need to go into iTunes on your computer and check that your address and credit card info are accurate. You will also need to make sure you have put in your security code.

  • MacBook and iSight crashes

I recently purchased a MacBook with built in iSight.
Whenever I start an iChat video call on the MacBook, 1/2 second into the call iSight crashes.
I have tried different AIM and .Mac accounts.
I have an existing Mac Mini with external iSight that works normally on the the same wireless network.
    Help!

    1) Thanks, will do this
    2) Yes Airport express: I have 3 airport express linked to a cable router
I do not know if I have port forwarding
I use DHCP when I use my Mac to connect to the Network at work
    3) I ran this again, and yes it did crash, full log below.
I am not that familiar with all the tech jargon. I set the network up myself using the airport setup assistant.
    Thanks again, Ralph

  • Battery wont charge and isight camera wont turn on-macbook, battery wont charge and isight camera wont turn on-macbook

i bought a macbook from a guy and when i started it up... surprise it wont turn on if its not connected because the battery is not being detected.... then what i checked first was photobooth surprise the isight camera is not working... i searched in internet about smc but i do not understand it.... is there a way to recover it using the cd?

Try resetting the PMU - Resetting MacBook and MacBook Pro System Management Controller (SMC). If you have no success then you'll need to take it in for service or replace the AC adaptor if it's gone bad.

  • Macbook and (built-in) iSight

About every fourth or fifth time I turn on my Macbook, the iSight (green) indicator light is on--from a fresh start up. There are no applications open (like Photo Booth, for example); only open apps are the usual finder and dashboard. The only way I can get the camera to turn off is to shut down and restart. Anyone else have this problem or know how to remedy it? BTW, my system is current with updates/patches. Tks!!!

SOLUTION FOUND! If anyone else has had issues after installing 10.4.8, resetting RAM (2 chimes after apple/contro/p/r at boot up) may fix--but one thing I neglected to do was repair permissions. When I ran "verify permissions," I found tons of issues. "Repair permissions" fixed it immediately. I'm new to Mac, so I'll add this to my bag o' tricks after major system downloads. Tip courtesy of Tampa's Internation Mall Apple Genius Bar. They rock! Thanks for the other hints.

My iphone5 was accidentally disconnected while updating OS8.2 in my MacBook Pro and now it's stuck with an apple logo on its screen and won't turn on or off. What should I do?

Connect to iTunes and restore. If you have difficulty, you may have to put the device into Recovery Mode. See the instructions in this support document. If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

  • My Mid 2010 MacBook Pro wifi keeps disconnecting, and doesn't turn back on. Help.

    *Mountain Lion 10.8.2*
    Here's what's happening:
I'll be browsing the internet probably surfing reddit (because what else do college kids do right?) and I'll click one of the links I'm interested in:
The page won't load at all, as if I have NO internet connection.
Click the wifi icon in the status bar. Before several networks (not just my current network) would show up. Now ONLY the network I'm currently connected to shows up.
Turn off the wifi to try to "refresh" it.
Turn Wifi back on. Now it will say "Searching for network" and show that I'm connected to a network, but the bars never fill the status bar icon. If I go to System Preferences > Network and try to turn on the wifi there it lets me click the button, but nothing happens.
Get frustrated that the wifi WILL NOT TURN BACK ON and restart computer
Start browsing the internet again or doing whatever college students do on the internet until it disconnects again.
    See 1
What I've done to try to aleviate this:
Made a genius bar apointment. I'm out of warrenty, but he did confirm for me that my wifi card is working as expected, and it's not a hardware issue, but more than probable a software issue. He did some cool trick where he went to Library>Preferences>System Configurations and deleted the entire contents (I think this is where the network information is stored according to some of the plists I looked through) then restarted the machine and everything seemed to work ok for a while, but the problem came back. I actually still do this sometimes when it happens but results seem to be the same every time (Plus I have to re enter network information when I do this).
Genius bar guy suggested that I try reinstalling Mountain Lion. Didn't want to get rid of my data, so I just did an install over my current build. This took some time, but it seemed to work for a while, but alas the problem came back.
Genius bar guy suggested (as a last resort) a fresh install. So That's what I did. I backed up my computer (Really I just coppied my documents folder and music folder to an external. I did not use a time machine back up because "ain't nobody got time for dat") and I then formatted my hard drive (Which is an SSD if that may have anything to do with anything), and installed mountain lion again. For a while things seemed good, but the problem came back.
    For clarification:
It has happened on multiple networks, not just the same network.
On top of that, every time it happens I have other devices connected to the same network and they work fine.
It has not always happened, this recently started about 2 weeks ago.
I have not recently installed any software that could have possibley done this (I use mostly MAS store stuff with the exception of Bartender, TotalFinder, and xQuarts, but all 3 of those had long been installed before I had to format my machine)
I can't really force the problem, but it seems to happen sometimes after the machine falls asleep, but I know for a fact it's also happened mid use (as described above)
Can anyone give me any kind of clue as to what is happening, why, and how I can fix it?

Years of fine internet use via WIFI then randomly it starts dropping then one day (weeks later) it is no longer accessible at all and even saying "No hardware installed" when I click on WIFI icon at the top right on screen. Here is how I finally fixed it!:
For six months I wallowed in this problem and had to connect my macbook pro to the internet via ethernet cable which as you can image was very restrictive :/
I have had numerous laptop technicans befuddled by this WIFI problem and most concluding with how my WIFI card must be broken and that I will need to buy a new one. The last suggestion I had on the matter was to buy a USB wifi dongle.
So I ended up buying this one, http://www.asus.com/nz/Networking/USBN10_NANO/Unfortunately my macbook pro didn't want to read the install disc and it didn't autorun so it didn't work. After reading more forums I saw that you could download the program from the net and sure enough it worked.. BUT STRANGER when I took the USB dongle out the WIFI was still working!! The program appears to have reminded my four year old macbook pro that it is indeed WIFI capable.
So to find this miraculous program its located herehttp://www.asus.com/nz/Networking/USBN10_NANO/HelpDesk_Download/
Same link as above just under SUPPORT>Driver&Tools
You then click on a file when its downloaded and a file called MAC will appear, then click on install. Within 5 minutes you should have your WIFI back. My macbook pro crashed again today but without having to get the shortest ethernet cable you've ever seen out again - I was able to install the program again and WIFI was up and running once more. Moral of the story - didn't need to spend any money to fix this and not even using the USB dongle.
So happy!! Hope it works for you too!
This also worked on a MacBook that lost its WIFI when a user accounts password was changed and the keychain password wasn't known to them - another random way to lose WIFI apparently

  • My 13inch MacBook Pro randomly shut off and won't turn on

My 13 inch MacBook Pro will not turn on at all. It randomly shut off while I was using it and now it won't come back on. The light on the charger is faintly blinking... But it is no longer charging. I tried a different outlet, and a different MacBook charger... Nothing. The screen is completely black and none of buttons or keys are responsive. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but it seems that it shut off not even one second after I connected my iPhone to it via USB. I guess I should include that this was the first time my iPhone was connected to my MacBook since upgrading to ios 6.0. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you..

    jc1122,
by “boot” I mean “use as the disk from which OS X will be run”. At the moment, all that is known is that your computer won’t start from its internal hard disk; my suggestion is to see whether it is able to start from your grey Mac OS X Install DVD, which is bootable (i.e. able to be used a disk from which OS X can be run).

  • My macbook pro all of the sudden shuts off and when I turn it on it says it shut off due to an error and then it tells me if I want to ignore or report the problem. Please help? I've barely got the pro in August..

MY macbook pro shuts off by its self. Then when I relize it and go to turn it on a white screen appears saying it shut off due to an error. Then a little box pops up and says if I want to report the issue or ignore it. Please help I got the computer in August.

  • My wife and I have separate login for the Macbook, and separate iCloud accounts, by my contacts still sync to her iPhone. Why is this, and how can we fix it so every time she turns iCloud on, she doesn't end up with all my contacts?

    Hey everyone,
This problem has been bugging me for a very long time, and have not been able to find the answer I am looking for.
My wife and I both have separate iphone's with separate iCloud accounts and all. We also both use a Macbook Pro with separate logins.
The issue is, when my wife logs in to her account on the macbook, and turns the contacts on to sync with icloud on her phone, all of my contacts are saving to her phone.
This has happened multiple times, and she says she just wont use it, but I rather have everything work together correctly.
    Please help!!!

If you share an Apple ID, both of your phone numbers should be linked to that ID. You should be able to use your phone number as well. My wife, my daughter and I all share an Apple ID for purchases, and we each text from our iOS devices using our own iPhone numbers.
When iOS 6 came out, you were able to link the phone number with your Apple ID to use for Messages and FaceTime. You will need to sign out of messages on all devices and then start the process all over again.
    Take a look at this.

  • MacBook Pro Mid 2014 shut off randomly and won't turn back on.

    Hello,
My MacBook Pro(Mid 2014) won't turn back on. I was just typing up my essay and it just turned straight off and won't turn back on. It has happen several times before and all I had to do was press the buttons(SMC method) and the PVRAM thing and it would turn back on. But now it doesn't turn on at all. How do I fix this issue? I had went today to the Apple Store and had a appointment at 3:15-3:25 and I was late by 2 minutes, so they couldn't help me and offered me to come back at 5PM, but will busy so I asked for 5 Monday. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Back when it was operating it would shut off whenever I was using it at the random times. This is my first MacBook so I don't know if it's suppose to get Hot and loud sometimes when operating and then cool off afterwards if that helps out. It shutoff last week wednesday and doesn't turn on at all, but will charge to fully green though. Anyone got any suggestions? I do have a MacBook screwdriver to open it, so if anyone knows anything about the inside and how to resolve the issue it would be great. I don't know how to remove the battery so if you do know please tell me or some keyboard trick would be helpful!   All my data is on this so I would like to solve before Apple erases my data.

  • I`m getting a saffire pro 40,and want to know what and how to turn anything I dont`t need to have running on my 2011 Macbook Pro

I plan to do some simple live recording ( 6 or 7 simultaneous tracks, and possibly add a few more later ) I want to keep my machine running smooth with the least amount of competition for resources while recording. Any tips and info on what and how to turn off what I don`t need? Or am I getting ahead of myself here?...Just read the manual, fire it up and see what happens?...hmmm, I think I`ll take any help I can get! Oh, and yes,I`ve got the 400 to 800 Firewire cable/adapter situation handled. Thanks!       2011 13" Macbook Pro   Intel i7   firewire 800  5400rpm serial ATA 500Gb  4Gb   2.7Ghz. in System Preferences make sure FileVault is off, i'd turn off AirPort, and make sure Energy Saver is set to it's least restrictive settings (like not allowing the hard drive to sleep)

a bit, i wouldn't worry about problems until you run into any. i've recorded a lot more, with a lot less

that is probably the only stumbling block i can see. if you run into an issue where the drive isn't fast enough for the number of Audio tracks with which you wish to work, you can buy a FireWire hard drive to solve it (and shopping around they can be had for under $100 [a lot less if you're willing to "roll-your-own"])

  • After sleeping my macbook pro 15.4" mid 2012 model for overnight and pass 24 hours time, on wake -- the dock background is white for a few seconds and then it turns back to normal color. . .

After sleeping MacBook Pro 15.4" mid 2012 model (running Mac OS X 10.10.2 Yosemite) for overnight and pass 24 hours time, upon wake from sleep-- the dock background is white for a few seconds and then it turns back to the normal color.
Is this normal? Should I be worried? Is my GPU defective?
    My specs:
MacBook Pro 15.4" Mid 2012 model, Ivy Bridge Quad core i7 2.3Ghz CPU w/ hyperthreading,
    16GB RAM, Nvidia 650M 512MB VRAM/Intel 4000 HD 1GB VRAM, 500GB HD

    Thanks to all in advanced.

It doesn't happen all the time but sometimes and i tried zapping the PRAM and it still happens!

  • I updated to snow leopard recently and when i turned on my macbook every file from pictures and music was on my desktop.. are these copies? is there an easy way to put them where they belong like music with itunes, pictures in iphoto and so on

Hi, I updated to snow leopard recently and when I turned my macbook back on icons from every file of pictures and music i have were all over my desktop
how can i get them to all go to their programs like music to itunes, pictures to iphoto,  do I have to do it individually? thanks for any help

If the icons have a black arrow bottom left corner, then the icons are just aliases, not the Application itself. You can move those icons to the Trash.
