Macbook and Logic Pro Quick question

im sorry guys i know there is alot of topics on this but im crunched for time and i need to get a computer as soon as possible. I found a macbook with 2.0 ghz, 80 gb 5400 harddrive, im going to get 4 gigs of ram, 667 mhz system bus. (im probally going to get an external harddrive)
potentially i can get a better one with 2.2 ghz
Which would be better? Is the first one enough?
I use logic to its breaking point with 40-60 tracks almost all have reverb and other effects (i make ambient music)
thanks

If your doing that many tracks with effects, go for the fastest cpu and the most ram you can get. Otherwise you going wind up freezing tracks a lot. You will also need a large firewire external drive running at 7200. If you don't need to move around an iMac is more bang for the buck. If you do and you have the money check out the new Macbook Pro. They're much faster, have a 17" screen option and can be purchased with a 200 gb 7200 internal HD.

  • Macbook and Logic pro, HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!

    Hey
Just about to buyy a Macbook 1.83, will this run my logic ok? I realise I might need more Ram but will it be ok?
I would buy the next model up but money is money.
    Thanks
    Dave

I don't see why not. My MacBook Pro runs it like a dream, and the hardware in the MacBook is pretty much identical with the exception of the GPU. And Logic certainly doesn't do much 3D rendering.
Besides, I've seen numerous reports on various Logic forums that it does in fact run great on the MacBook.
Back to the original question -- the 1.83 should do fine. I've yet to get close to maxing out my 2.0 in Logic. However, in my opinion it would be worth the upgrade to the 2.0ghz model. The one thing that really does matter with Logic is the CPU (and memory, but you already mentioned upgrading that).

  • The best use of my MacBook and  Logic Pro

    Hi i have this machine
    2.4 intel Core 2 Duo
    667 Ram 4 Gigabite
    I use Logic Pro 9.1.1
    I mainly work with midi
i use Kontact Philarmonic La strings all that stuff hard disk is internal 250 Gbite
What is the best way for me to go.(Use the Kontact as multichannel?
I cannot add more Ram that is the Max i can have on this machine!
Do the midi tracks and then convert audio and add other midi? Then convert them audio and go on?
Do everything audio after the midi is done.
What is the best way to use the potential of this Machine.
I usually have 2 3 bus where i put the effects and send the signal to them ,instead to have a effect insert on every channel.
    Thanks very much for help

  • Macbook and Logic Pro Information

Folks, I currently own a 1.8 dual G5 and run the latest version of Logic Pro on it and it runs fine.
However, I'm looking to get a laptop in addition, to make the whole thing more mobile and was wondering whether I would be able to get the latest macbook (not Pro) and effectively run the latest version of Logic Pro on it? I'd be putting 2 Gig of Ram in it and have at least a 120 gig HD.
Has anyone tried this yet? Will the saving over getting a Macbook Pro be a false economy or would it be powerful enough to do it justice. Any pros, cons, dos and don'ts would be much appreciated.
    Cheers all.

The processor in the MacBook and MacBook Pro is essentially the same with a slight edge in speed for the MB Pro, so you really shouldn't notice a difference. Where the MB and MB Pro differ substantially is in the graphics card-but that only becomes an issue with video editing and 3D apps.

Re: Macbook Pro 10.6.8 RAM Upgarde to 8 GB
The amount of RAM is not dependant on the operating system. It is all about the model of you Mac.
10.6.8 is the version of OS X that is installed on your system. It has no real baring on the amount of RAM that CAN be installed.
Personally I have never had good luck with Corsair RAM. I have always had good luck with Crucial and Kingston.

  • 2012 MacBook Air running Photoshop and Logic Pro

Looking to buy a laptop. The most I do with my current iMac is record music using logic pro, edit video in iMovie and edit photos in photoshop.
I'm planning on travelling for a decent length of time and would like to continue to do this on a laptop.
The weight and SSD of the macbook air are really appealing to me. I'm wondering if it will be able to perform the above tasks? I read some reviews of people using photoshop on a 2011 macbook air with no issues, and from what I understand, the cheapest 2012 macbook air 13' is faster then the ultimate macbook air of 2011?
So I'm considering purchasing a 2012 MacBook air 13' with the 1.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 and upgrading the RAM from 4gb to 8gb.
Will this be able to meet my needs? I say I will be editing photos and recording music with it, but I'm still really amateur and I'm sure my needs are also.

    Thanks for the reply DWB,
USB should be fine as far as I can see. Is there a firewire adaptor just in case?
I was planning on keeping an external drive, and if I wanted to edit any substantial amount of footage, transfer it from the external drive to the MBA hardrive then just edit it from there.
The main thing I'm wondering about is wheter or not the applications photoshop CS6, imovie (maybe even final cut pro?) and logic pro will run smoothly on a 2012 13-inch 1.8GHv i5 macbook air with 8gb ram.

  • Is there a difference between Logic Pro and Logic Pro X?

Maybe this is a stupid question, but is there a difference between Logic Pro and Logic Pro X?
    Already thx!

    Hi
    Short answer: No
    Longer answer:
Logic Pro X is the latest release version of the DAw known as "Logic Pro". Previous versions were: Logic Pro 9, Logic Pro 8 etc.
There was also a "Logic Express" (no longer available) which, though similar to Logic Pro, was missing a few features of Logic Pro in it's later versions)
    This might add more details:

eBay or Craigslist would be the only choice.

The installer for Logic Pro 8 has a bug which keeps it from operating in Lion or Mt. Lion.  Use the program Pacifist to install it.

  • HT4561 I have an iMac (2.66Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo) and recently updated to OSX10.6.8. At first things worked as before, but suddenly a bunch of applications are not working; including videos wont play in any browser, plus Skype and Logic Pro won't work

Recently updated to osx10.6.8. Was fine at first, but now have problems with various applications freezing/hanging.
These include Skype and Logic Pro.
In addition, cannot play videos (including YouTube and BBC) on Firefox (my usual browser), Safari or Chrome.
Application becomes frozen, and I eventually get an 'unresponsive script' message.
With Firefox I have tried clearing the cache. My Flash is upto date.
These are all the apps I use everyday, and this is driving me crazy. Can't seem to find answers on line. Very grateful for any help or advice.

Please download this app ... etrecheck, run it, copy or paste the results and post them back to us here.
From that we may be able to see more background to your problem.   Be assured, it is safe.

  • I installed Lion OS X and Logic Pro won't run. I downloaded the 9.1.5 update: "An Eligible Logic Pro Version Was Not Found in the Applications Folder.  This Update require Logic Pro Version 9.0 or higher".  I have Logic Pro Version 9.1.1 installed.

I even pulled the dmg file into the Logic Studio folder in my applications directory and it still does not recognize it.  What do I do now?

    Niel:  Thanks.
For others benefit, here is what happened.
I had installed Logic Studio 9.1 some time ago.......not knowing what all the programs were nor what they did, I created a "Logic Studio" subfolder in my applications folder and put all Logic Studio programs into it so I'd know where they were and could review each at my leisure over time.
My assumption now is that when the updater looks for the Logic Pro program, it looks only in the applications folder.  It seems lame that it would not also look in the subfolders of the applications folder, but that apparently IS the way it works.  Because my Logic Pro program was located in the "Logic Studio" subfolder, the updater just didn't see it..hence the error message I received when I tried to update.
Solution:  I moved all the Logic Studio programs out of the subfolder and now they reside in the applications folder. Ran the 9.1.5 updater and it worked like a charm.

  • Can you run Logic Pro 8 and Logic Pro X on the same machine?

    Hello all!
Congratulations to us on the release of the new Logic Pro!
I am still running Logic Pro 8 (and was waiting for X to come out since I knew it wasn't too far off) but am concerned over the loss of 32-bit plug-ins with Logic Pro X (the wrapping of my old VST plug-ins alone hurts!).  I've heard that installing Logic Pro X doesn't in any way gimp Logic Pro 9's usage, but can someone confirm whether or not Logic Pro X and Logic Pro 8 can operate in harmony on the same Mac?
As a bonus, is there any reason to believe that Apple would disable earlier versions of Logic Pro (such as version 8) from running on Mavericks?
I am planning my Logic Pro and Mac OS migrations!  Thanks!!

  • External piano and Logic Pro

    Hello
I have Logic Pro 9 and external keyboard KORG SP250
I can play the keyboard and Logic Pro can record what I play from keyboard, it will play back as well, but it will use the speaker from the keyboard for output.
I dont know how to redirect to the speaker of my computer
    Thanks in advance everyone

You understand that MIDI is not audio (sound), it's only a simple set of instructions that describe the MIDI performance. It (MIDI) can be routed to and sound producing keyboard, module , virtual instrument... etc.
In any case, you have it routed back to your keyboard so natually tha sound will come out of the keyboard, it's the keyboard that is producing the audio. If you want the sound to come out of the computer the audio outs of the keyboard have to be routed to the audio inputs of your sound card, an audio track selected, software monitoring enabled and the track record enabled. (that's one way)
You could also create an instrument track, load a virtual instrument and slide the MIDI performance over to the virtual instrument track.
If you're unsure of the terminology I'm using you might want to ge here and read:

  • M-Audio Fast Track USB and Logic Pro X

I wanted to share this tip in case anyone else has the same issue I had.
I attempted to use the Fast Track USB audio interface with Logic Pro X. It had worked in every version of Garageband since version 3, as well as older versions of Logic Express and Logic Pro, so I assumed it would work out of the box with Logic Pro X.
With it plugged in correctly, and my guitar connected to it, I added a new audio track to my project - ensuring the Fast Track was set as the input device, and input 2 was selected (input 1 is the XLR input on the device) - and enabled playback monitoring. There was no sound. Additionally, the button to enable recording was not present for the track. The same was true for every new track I added that used the Fast Track as the input device.
I tried everything: in Logic Pro X > Preferences > Audio > Devices, I toggled between the built-in input and the Fast Track; I restarted the software; I unplugged and plugged in the Fast Track, and I restarted the system. None of these worked. Then I had an idea.
In the Applications > Utilities folder on my Mac, I opened the Audio MIDI Setup app. This opened the Audio Devices window. I clicked on the plus at the bottom left and chose to Create Aggregate Device. I named this device by double-clicking the name on the left, then on the right I checked Built-in Input and Fast Track, taking note of which inputs belonged to the Fast Track in this new device (for me, inputs 3 and 4).
After restarting Logic Pro X, I chose this new aggregate device as my input device, chose input 4 for recording, and suddenly everything worked correctly.

I contacted Logic Pro X support and they said that they are working on an update.  They were very helpful, so no worries guys.  They know that there is an issue and they are working on it A.S.A.P.  They told me if I needed to continue production to use time machine and go back before the update and restore Logic Pro X (before 10.0.5).
They understand, so give them a break...    They are working as fast and hard as they can.  I talked with one of the programmers directily.   They are probably not getting any sleep over this.
