MacBook and Powerbook knocking each other of WiFi

Hi
I Have just purchased a 17 MBP and have discovered that I cannot have my old 17 inch Powerbook connected to the same wf fi network at the same time as the 17 MBP. Both are running the latest version of leopard.
Once one is connected the other one just timesout when trying to join.
I have a Belkin N1 Vision router which works fine with one or other but not both.
Anyone else have this type of problem?

Welcome to Apple Discussions
1) How are they getting their IP number, did you set DHCP on both or have you set a manual number ?
2) What sort of security are you using ?
3) Did you copy the settings from the old to the new using Migration Assistant ?

As I said before both app's send signals but none are received by Mainstage and both the ipad 3 (6.1) and macbook pro (10.7.5) see each other via WIFI on the network set up, which I think I did right. I have tried MIDI Disigner and Mainstage shows MIDI activiti, what can I be doing wrong?
    Thanx in advance.

I agree anti-relay can be using UBE feature. However, there is serious problem in reject the spam mail. My nms is using UBE feature to stop spam mail. According to the work flow of the UBE, the mail is received by nms completely and UBE is going to invesgate the mail address. Although UBE can stop the spam mail, the spam mail have a trouble in returning the mail to the sender. The reason is the sender address is usually not existed in the world. That will cause a lot of mail waiting in the mail queue.
In my experience, do not use UBE for anti-relay.

My brother and I will both be in Quito at the same time but staying in different hotels. If we both have iphones with facetime how would we call each other (over wifi of course)?

    Hello ajs42548,
The article linked below details how to go about using FaceTime. In order to use FaceTime over Wi-Fi, just verify that you are connected to a Wi-Fi network prior to initiating the call.

My husband and I share an Itunes account so use the same email address and password.  Our iphones are now connected and we get each other's messages and share each other's contacts.  How can we stop this happening?

    A couple of different approached:
Create a second AppleID for one of you that includes the email address and phone number you wish to use for messaging, but do not apply it to the iTunes and app store (just keep the current one). My wife and I do this and it works quite well. Also allows for easier syncing of Contacts , notes etc. using icloud if you wish to do that.
Add additional emails/phone numbers to the existing account and change the Send/Receive settings for Messages. this will not fix the Contcts isues for you however.

now i am trying join the Mumbai location PC with my Domain(CAPLDC) but they are not join with my DC and generate the error.
I have chek the DNS and nslookup all are correct but this is generate error.
Is this possible Mumbai location join with this Domain(CAPLDC)???
One more thing when i have created another DC with this name (papldc.com) then Mumbai location is joined properly.
Pls find the error message below and also find the attachment.

    capldcserver.capldc
    win-dyfq2poc88q.capldc
However no domain controllers could be contacted.
Common causes of this error include:
    - Host (A) or (AAAA) records that map the names of the domain controllers to their IP addresses are missing or contain incorrect addresses.
    - Domain controllers registered in DNS are not connected to the network or are not running.

Why are you using a single labeled domain? I would recommend renaming the domain name to be something like domain.com.
Please refer to the articles below to fix your current issue:

  • My iMac and MacBook can't see each other on the same wifi network

I've got a 2010 MacBook running Snow Leopard and a late 2009 iMac running Lion. They are connected wirelessly to a Belkin N+ router and can ping one another by IP. They can also share a mouse using Synergy by IP. They can't resolve one another's hostnames (<compname>.local).
Unfortunately, they don't show up in each other's local network in Finder. They have recognized each other twice in the few days I've had this set up but those times were directly after a reboot of both machines and even then, only one machine could see the other. One time it was iMac -> MacBook, the other it was MacBook -> iMac.

More information: After restarting my router and upgrading the firmware, the my MacBook was able to see my iMac (ping it directly immediately) and it showed up in the list of Shared devices.
My iMac was able to ping the MacBook eventually (after 22 timeouts, it eventually got a few high round-trip pings that lowered shortly thereafter), but it is still unable to see the MacBook in the Shared devices list.
I was, however, able to mount it with Finder > Connect to Server > afp://192.168.2.3. This is useful progress, but it's not ideal because I use some software like "teleport" that still doesn't recognize my MacBook is a shared Mac. The teleport software on my MacBook does recognize the iMac as a shared Mac.
Here's the output for my attempted ping from the iMac to the MacBook:

  • IMac and Macbook can't see each other via Airp

    Except sometimes.
Using Leopard on both new machines, I can share Internet connections and printers fine. The problem is in trying to mount volumes or share files.
I create a network on the iMac, connect to it on the Macbook, and use the appropriate password on both machines. I've set file sharing preferences perfectly and confirmed that at the store.
Sometimes, from the Go menu I can find one machine from the other. Sometimes I can't. When I find them, file sharing and accessing work fine--although for some reason, the volumes do not mount on my desktop! I have to use the Go Network menu item.
But other times they just don't see each other. I only get this to work by REPEATEDLY logging out of networks, turning Airport on and off, creating new network names, and so forth.
The worst results come from creating a familiar network with a name and password I've used before. The best results come from creating a brand new network, new name and pswd. And creating the using 128-bit WEP is the worst, but I think that sometimes that works, too.
My question is, am I doing something wrong, or is this another Leopard/Airport bug?
Also, if I can access the other computer in Go Network, how come the volume doesn't mount on my desktop??
    Thanks.

Don't know if this will help - but if you're using an Extreme base station go to the Airport Utility and look at the list of DHCP Clients. I had the same problem only I had an iMac and a Macbook running OS 10.4.11. Turns out that my printer and my iMac were sharing the same IP address. When I assigned a permanent address to the printer (out of the normal distribution range used for the other computers) the problems all went away. So, for instance, if the router was assigning IP addresses ending in 10.0.1.199, 198, 197, etc., and the primary computer ended witih 200, I named the printer 10.0.1.201
    Hope that helps.

  • Mac Mini and MacBook can't 'see' each other on the network

I have an 'old' Mac Mini set up to the Airport Extreme base station via ethernet cable and can happily connect to the internet. I also have a MacBook that connects wirelessly to the AEBS. A couple of things frustrate me..
Although I can connect to the internet from the Mini the Airport Utility can rarely find the base station so any diagnostics are impossible.
Also, the two macs are unable to find each other over the network. Both have personal file sharing turned on in the prefs. Occasionally the MacBook identifies my Mini on the network but when I try and connect (clicking on the alias) i get the "the alias XXX's computer could not be opened, because the original item cannot be found".
This is frustrating as I would like to share/copy files over the network.
Is there something simple I am missing?

A couple of things to check.
The Mini will need to have file sharing turned on.
And the appropriate holes in its firewall set.
It should be assigned its IP number by DHCP.
It should not be plugged into the WAN port on the
    AEBSn.
    Using Terminal (on the mini)
You should be able to PING the other computer,
And you should be able PING a computer on the
    internet.
    ie. apple.com
    Hi
File sharing is on and firewall is off. As I mentioned I have connection to the internet and can ping apple.com. It is not plugged into the WAN port on the AEBSn - the modem is plugged in there. The IP is assigned by DHCP
I can ping the macbook (when the alias is in Finder) but I get a "connection failed...server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and try again" when I try to connect.

  • Is there a difference in Airport between MacBook and PowerBook?

My husband has MacBook Pro and I have PowerBook G4. He is able to obtain wireless at times when I am not. Is there a difference in the Airport cards? I am considering purchasing the MacBook and wonder if this better technology, etc.?

We have the same problem at our house. My Powerbook connects with no problem while my wife's MacBook Pro loses the connection periodically. I've heard rumors that the latest Airport update may have affected the Macbooks but not the Powerbooks...?
I'm hoping someone fixes this, because my wife works from home and the unstable connection is frustrating!

  • Difficulties playing iDVD's on my MACBOOK and powerbook

I have burned some dvd's and supervideo discs on my MAcbook Pro 17 inch 2,4 duo, with iDVD but they wont play on dvd player. They DO play on my dvd player on my television, but not on my MAcbook or Powerbook
any ideas why these discs are readable only on my external dvd devices, and not on my poer or MAcbook pro?
    thanks
    artguide

    Hi a
Yes this is a common question.
    a. DVD is burned with iDVD and burn speed is not set.
    b. DVD is probably x16
    c. DVD might be of a cheep brand
    Improve DVD quality in iDVD08
    • I use the Professional encoding quality.
    • The free space on Your internal (start-up) hard disk matters and should read 25Gb or more
    • Way to import movie to iDVD: Don't use "Share/Export to iDVD from within iMovie = destructive
both to the final result BUT ALSO to Your original movie materials. If photos then You need to
re-import those and re-edit them. When iMovie renders it destroys.
I drop my movie project (icon with a Star on it) into theme window of iDVD.
    • I BURN at an as slow speed as possible eg x1 = less burn errors on disk
THIS CAN BE SET in iDVD08 but not iDVD 1 - 6 where You need to do a DiskImage and burn it
with Apple Disk Util tool or Toast™
    • I use Verbatim DVD-R (there are other brands but some are really lousy)
    • DVD-R (No +R or +/-RW)
Often I do a DiskImage first. Then play it with Apple DVD-Player to judge the result before burning.
