MacBook and TC trouble connecting wirelessly to PC network

Linksys modem on a PC accepted my new MacBook just fine. Tried to install the TC (500GB) today. AirPort utility recognized the TC once, but when I tried to add it to the established network I apparently failed somewhere and the TC went away. Now AirPort Utility just doesn't recognize the TC no matter how many times I rescan, even when the Mac is sitting on top of it. The amber light keeps blinking which the ever-so-useful manual says is because there's not an ethernet plugged in. But this is obvious, as I'm not trying to connect the TC with an ethernet cable. Any ideas as to how to get the TC to be recognized by AirPort Utility?
This being my first Mac I'm just still a little hazy on a lot of the interface.

To try and be more precise, I repeated the process and recorded everything I did. Also, I've tried to install AirPort on the PC and work from there, but there's a .dll file missing and it won't even open.
Here's the step-by-step.
1. Open Time Machine Utility
2. Prompted to Configure. Proceed to AirPort Utility
3. Select TC on Left. Click Continue
4. Name Time Capsule. Create Password
5. Select "I have a wireless network and want to add Time Capsule or replace an existing device on my network" and Proceed.
6. Select "I want Time Capsule to wirelessly join my current network."
7. Prompted to choose a wireless network from a list. The only option is the one created with the name "Apple Network [Time Capsule Name]." So I type my current network name and enter password and Continue
8. Given this summary:
"TIme Capsule will use the settings below. Please make sure they are correct.
Time Capsule Name: [My Name]'s Time Capsule
Wireless Mode: Join an existing wireless network
Network Name: [My current, working PC's network name]
Wireless Security: [My security type]"
I click update and get a prompt telling me that "This device and its network will be temporarily unavailable." I click continue and then the load circle appears with "Writing the TIme Capsule Configuration..."
Error Screen Appears
Repeating steps 1-6:
7. Prompted to choose a wireless network. I select the one created by the TC under the name "Apple Network [Time Capsule name]."
When I continue through the summary and try to restart the TC, it never restarts.

  • Having trouble connecting Wireless Router to Network

Hey everyone, I ordered two Encore ENHWI-2AN3 wireless routers and am having trouble configuring the one I want to use as the wireless access point (other one will be used as a repeater.)
    I followed the advice here
    http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/Wireless-Router-Doesn-t-Work-After-35ft/m-p/206716/highli...
I disabled DHCP, and set a new IP on the local network. I disabled WiFi on the verizon router as well. When I run an ethernet cable between the two using LAN ports, and try to use WiFi I get a signal, but it doesn't go load.
I'm assuming I need to tweak something in the "internet" section of the Encore router, the main options are Dynamic or Static IP, PPPoE, PPTP and L2TP.
To clarify, I am not looking to replace the Verizon router, only use the Encore router for Wifi

Can you see the network in the Mac's wireless network list?

If no change after restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup, there is a hardware problem.

Place the photos into iPhoto on your Mac.  Then when syncing your iPhone using iTunes, clock on the "Photos" tab behind your iPhone's summary tab and make sure the sync instructions are set correctly.

Setting up new ipad 2. Won't accept my PW for my Airport Extreme (Wi Fi network?)  Where is the PW for my Wi Fi? I am stymied. Can I set up through my MacBook Pro, which IS connected to my WiFi network?

If you could provide the make and model number of the modem that the AirPort Extreme will be connecting to, we can likely tell you a bit more about what to expect in the way of getting the AirPort set up and working.
Unfortunately, "plug and play" does not apply here. You will need to set up and configure the AirPort Extreme using your iPad or iMac to name the AirPort as a device, assign a device password, name the wireless network, assign a device password and a few other things.
Once the AirPort Extreme is set up, you can connect the PC to one of the LAN <--> ports on the AirPort Extreme using an Etherent cable.
The iPad and iMac will connect to the wireless network that the AirPort Extreme provides.

  • My MacBook Air has problems connecting to a saved network when I first open it.

My MacBook Air has problems connecting to a saved network when I first open it. When it idles, the connection gets lost and even clicking on the network won't connect it. Then I have to turn off wireless and turn it back on for it to connect. My boyfriend's MacBook Pro does not have this same problem and this problem started maybe 2 months ago and nothing about our internet or router has changed, and its only my computer having the problem. Its a 2013 MacBook Air and my softward is: OS X 10.9.1 (13B42). Please help!

    Hello, nheredia05.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
There are a couple steps that I could recommend trying.  Power cycle the router and test to see if the behavior persists.  Next, try an remove this prefered network from your list and then add it back again.  Make sure all firmware updates have been processed on the router side and the settings have been optimized for performance.  If the issue still persists try the steps in the second article.

My Apple TV all of a sudden refuses to show the movies from my MacBook and says it needs to set time network. What is that?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV should set it's time automatically from the network time server, if it isn't doing this try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for a 30 seconds, if this fails try resetting or restoring it.

  • Trouble connecting wirelessly only at home MacBook

At home Actiontec router connects wirelessly flawless when using Apple TV or this MacBook running Windows XP (via Bootcamp). Only connects to home network by first starting XP and then simply restarting to OS 10.6.6. Works good until any sleep session or restart; then must restart XP again (connects instantly) and restart back to Mac OS to connect wirelessly. No such issues connecting to any other wireless sites (libraries, coffee houses, other family wireless homes, or businesses)...no need to connect via XP first at such sites. No issues using router with ethernet except MacBook ceases to be portable.

So what happens when you simply shut down and restart directly in MacOS without restarting in Windows first?
I'm not an expert, but I can't think of anything related to AirPort that Windows would 'set' that wouldn't be 'reset' by then rebooting into OS X (although I know my own MacBook used to reset the internal time of day clock when switching from XP to OS X and vice versa, but that was with 10.5.x.)
Do you have a custom 'location' setting created for home, or are you using 'Search' for every wireless connection? You might try creating a custom 'home' location for AirPort and see if that helps.

  • New MacBook Air having trouble connecting to the network and staying connected

I have an iMac as my prime and a MacBook Air as my remote. My network is all Apple. If I close the lid on my MacBook Air it immediately disappears from finder as a shared resource. However, if on first run though I put it to sleep and then close the lid, it will remain on the network as a shared resource. From hereon in, I can just close the lid to put it to sleep and its fine.
If I restart either computer or both computers, I have to go through the first run routine again. What makes matters worse is I’m trying to do an 11pm Retrospect backup of the Air and if it gets lost from the network Retrospect is unable to find the device. I have to do a locate in Retrospect and then let it do its backup.
I think this putting it to sleep on first run and then closing the lid to maintain stability is just a workaround I accidentally discovered. I don’t think it should be working like this. I think if I just close the lid and let it sleep that way on first run it should remain on the network as a shared resource and I should continue to see it on my iMac in Finder but this isn’t the case.
I’m really looking for opinions on this issue, if others have experienced this and is there anything that can be done about it. I’ve got mixed messages from Apple Tech support but Retrospect tech support said I’m doing everything right. This to me seems like a bug in probably the software. The machine runs fine except for this one little quirk.
    Kerry

Yes its ticked. I’ve worked at this for two weeks and have gone through every iteration I can think of. Apple said that it is normal that the lid has to be open to have the shared resource but as long as on first sleep I put it to sleep first then close the lid it remains in the iMacs finder Window as a shared resource. And I can open and close the lid from thereon in and it is always there as a shared resource and Retrospect can locate it for backups.

  • Just bought a macbook and can't connect to the internet.   very frustrating

i can't connect through my wireless router. it reads it but can't connect. my brothers hp laptop connects to it and works. i brought it to work and tried to connect to the router at work but it failed again. but my bro's hp just reads it right away. i need some help please.

    Hi,
The same happened to me, but here's a fix.
If it is password encrypted, when you first turn on your macbook, and they give you the internet connection list, Click on advance, and select "This computer does not connect to the internet" Then everything will finish installing.
Now when you see the wireless symbol on top of your screen (right next to the blue tooth) select Airport ON if it isn't enabled. Then connect to your wireless router, and when it asks for the password, click on the internet password type, and select the "Wireless WEP 12/48 key...or something like that" and it should connect. That is what I did to my macbook and it worked

  • Self assigned ip and can't connect wirelessly on any apple device

Man oh man... this issue has been festering for almost an entire year now and I have not found a solution. Last August (2009) my macbook stopped wirelessly connecting to my ATT 2WIRE dsl modem saying it had a self assigned ip address. I bought the computer in July and could connect with no issues for about a month. Ever since then, I've been connected via ethernet with slow connection. At the same time, the 2 iPhones in our household also could not connect wirelessly. One G5 could connect wirelessly but was extremely weak and often dropped the signal.
I did tons of research and found zillions of other people with this issue and no resolution. I've tried every solution on macrumors, and apple discussions with no results... I've disabled firewall, renewed DHCP, tried DHCP manual (which then changes the status to say I'm connected, but nothing works in my browser), restarted, etc. At work, I can connect to our Linksys router wirelessly with no issues. When my friends come over, their macbooks and iPhones don't work either!
Originally I thought the issue was my modem so I ordered another one. Same issue. Just this week I was at my wits end and cancelled my service with ATT and switched to Clear. I acquired a Linksys router to connect to the Clear Modem and I'm STILL having this issue. The difference is now that my iPhone can connect wirelessly but my macbook still cannot. The router is a Linksys WRT51ab. My macbook pro is on version 10.5.8. I can only assume that some kind of update to airport is causing the problem. As of now, my IPv4 address is: 169.254.111.225
Please someone help me! I promise some kind of reward if you can help me fix this.

Based on the model number, your Linksys router is OLD.
I'd actually suspect that your router has been the problem.
You can download the full user manual here --> http://homedownloads.cisco.com/downloads/wrt51ab_ug.pdf
I don't know if you ever secured your wireless router or renamed it from the factory defaults.
If it your Linksys wireless router is not password secured, it's possible that someone else changed settings about the time things stopped connecting.
Regardless, you can completely reset the Linksys to the factory defaults by holding down the Reset button on the Linksys for more than 10 seconds.
    Do that first.
Then see if things 'magically' start connecting again. I'm guessing the phones will connect, but the Mac still won't, because of the IP address in the current configuration.
If not, here's how to configure your Mac network settings.
On your Mac, in System Preferences, Internet and Network, Network,
    Click on Location, Edit Location
Click the + sign to create a new location called '_test'
(The underscore before the name will put it at the top of your Locations list where it's easy to find)
    Select Ethernet (wired)
First, we'll let DHCP try to set the address.
    Click Apply.
Move the selection back to Ethernet, and watch the Status.
If it shows Connected and IP address appears after a few moments, at least the WIRED configuration is working.
Now IF the Wired configuration works, lets move on to the wireless configuration...
(If the Wired configuration is still not working, post back and we'll work through it.)
Still in System Preferences, Internet and Network, Network, with the _test location you just created...
Select the AirPort interface in the left column.
    Turn AirPort On.
If no Network Name appears, click on the up/down button and select Join Other Network and select your Linksys router name.
    Click 'Apply'.
Leave DHCP settings alone and watch the Status to see if it connects.
    Let me know what happens!

  • Can't get Macbook and Iphone to connect..Wrong Password?

Ok, so I used the airport utility setup on my Imac and the connection works great. The airport is also sending out a full signal that both my iphone and macbook are picked up but says im unable to connect...grr, iv triple checked the password and everything is correct...suggestion?

Scratching my head. I can't duplicate the error to try to figure out a fix.
On the MacBook you might try opening System Preferences (gear icon on the dock) and opening Network.
Click on AirPort on the left to highlight it, then click Advanced at the lower right.
Locate and highlight any old networks in the list of connections and click the - (minus) button to delete them.
Then open Applications > Utilities > KeyChain Access
Locate the name of any previous wireless networks that you have used and delete them.
Restart both the AirPort Extreme and the MacBook and try to set up a new connection to your wireless network.
If this works, then you can in effect do the same thing on the iPhone by clicking Settings, then click Wi-Fi, click the arrow on your network name and then click Forget this Network on the next page.
Then setup a new connection for the iPhone.
