Macbook + Aperture 2 + Canon 350d

Wondering if anyone can help. I'm trying to use my Canon 350d for tethered shooting in aperture 2 but I'm not really getting any response. If i have the camera set to ptp mode then the capture button in the HUD is greyed out and i can't use the shutter. If i have the Camera set to PC mode then every time i try to open a tethered shooting session, aperture crashes.
Has anyone had a similar problem?

Hi,
I'm not familiar with the 350D but with the 1D's I have to use the Canon utility to tether to the camera. This gives full function and remote operation of the camera including live view etc. The Hot Folder app looks at the folder and imports the image into Aperture. The 1Ds Mk3 isn't supported at this date by Aperture either.
It's not a work around but something better since I still have full operational function of the camera and not just a release button. Check your canon CD or to Canonusa.com to see if they have the utility for that camera.
Cheers
Mark

  • Canon 350D (Rebal XT) using Canon RAW software

    Hi,
Has anyone with a MacBook used the Canon software for their 350D (Rebal XT) when using RAW images. i.e. :
    "Digital Photo Professional"
    "Digital Photo Professional Batch"
    "EOS Utility"
    "EOS Capture"
    "ImageBrowser"
    "PhotoStitch"
I mailed Canon and they said:
"As of yet, we don't have any information regarding the compatibility of products running on an Intel Mac with OS X v10.4.6"
Tried using iPhoto but it has done a few odd things.

    Hi,
Been playing with Aperture, not tried Lightroom yet. But found it just runs too slow on the Mac I tried it on (PowerBook 17" 1.67) at least the Canon software I can batch convert RAW into 16bit TIFF for PhotoShop which is what I'm doing now (want to get the MacBook)
What IPoto is doing is this:
I tend to drag an image from iPhoto straight into PhotoShop in the dock and it will do this fine if the image is "landscape" it send to PhotoShop the RAW version.
If the image is portrait (my canon has an auto rotate feature in the camera which iPhoto can read and rotates on intial import) then it send it to PhotoShop as a jpeg, so no RAW features.
The work around is to export any portait images to desktop then drag into photoshop.
Not a big deal but when you have shot 200-300 images its a pain

  • IPhoto (and preview) not recognising Canon 350D raw files

    Hi,
I'm using a Canon 350D (UK version of Digital Rebel XT) and OS X (specifically preview and iPhoto) won't recognise the .cr2 raw images it produces.
The images have finder thumbnails but if I try to open them I get:
The document "xxx.cr2" could not be opened.
Couldn't open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn't recognize.
In iPhoto I get an 'Unreadable files' alert telling me it can't read them and then lists the files.
I know that it should work fine and am stuck in terms of what I'm doing wrong.
This problem has existed since I was on 10.4.7 when I bought the computer and camera - I'm now on 10.4.9. I did download the Aperture trial to see if that helped and had the same problems. Reinstalling OS X made no difference.
    Any ideas?

Actually, I was getting support for my Canon Powershot S50 in 10.4.8 (at least I could open the Raw files, although Image Capture mysteriously stopped downloading them from the camera), after doing the 10.4.9 Combo update Preview announced it could not open the files. I went in and hacked this file:
    "/System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/ ImageIO.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Raw.plist"
Changed the entry for Canon S60 (which I don't have) to Canon S50. Preview will now open the files, haven't tried Image Capture yet to see if it is still broken (works fine in Panther BTW). See this discussion in MacOSXHints:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20051101035330228
It worked sort of for me (at least I can open the Raw files I already have).

  • Unable to recognise Canon 350D raw images

    Hi,
I've posted this in the Tiger forums and someone suggested I try here too.

Note that I've tried the Digital camera raw support download and also editing the raw.plist file (have since done an archive and install so I know I haven't damaged it).
    Any ideas?

bought the computer and camera - I'm now on 10.4.9. I
did download the Aperture trial to see if that helped
and had the same problems. Reinstalling OS X made no
    difference.
If you hadn't said that you'd reinstalled everything, then I'd be less puzzled.
Firstly - are these files straight out the camera/off the card? Or are you using some Canon software to copy or look at them first? It's not unheard of for software like DPP to modify the files slightly and make them unreadable by third-party programs.
Next - It's worth checking what versions of frameworks are installed on your system, against someone else who also has a Mac working with Aperture.
This can be done by running "System Profiler" (Applications -> Utilities; or by going to the "About This Mac" menu (first option on top left Apple menu) and then clicking on "More Info...", select the "Software" option on the left hand side, and then select "Frameworks".
Key ones to look at are:
    - ProKit (3.1)
    - QuickTime (7.1.3)
    - QuartzCore (mine's 1.4.11, but I've not updated to 10.4.9 yet.)
also ImageIO (a part of ApplicationServices) is quite critical - but unfortunately SystemProfiler doesn't report that. But you say you've applied 10.4.9 (if you've installed either of the DigitalCameraRAW updates hopefully they were installed before updating to 10.4.9) so it should have been updated to the latest, correct version then.

  • Advanced RAW processing which doesn't support Canon 350D RAW?? Surely not??

I am the owner of one the most popular DSLR's there is - wanted to make certain of compatability prior to purchase and found marketing material specifically naming my camera as supported (Rebel XT - same thing). Now seething owner of a $699 pretty software that is of absolutely no use to me. Tried update 1.01 with hope, only to be crushed again! Have seen some references to how to fix it oneself with administrator access but don't want to mess with it and, frankly don't think I should have to. Does anyone have a suggestion/knowledge of when the Canon 350D is supported? Feel like bringing the box back to the store and shove it down someones throat. Like buying a potato peeler which only peels oranges. Seriously ******!!
    Imac   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Really, you're asking for support of a low-end
consumer camera in a pro app.
Surely it would be nice to have that support as I
expect that some folks use the rebels as backup gear,
but it should hardly be a priority in this app.
However, since iphoto uses the same converter, and
since iphoto really really should support the rebels,
I'm sure we'll see support for this camera appear in
    aperture one day.
That's such a total canard. OSX should be striving to support just about everything out there like ACR just about does and I consider CS2 and ACR a heck of a higher level of "pro" app then Apeture. I don't want some elitist deciding what's "pro" equipment and what people "should" be shooting with. That's why I switched to Mac in the first place. I just want it to work. I don't want some equipment snob deciding what takes "professional" pictures. It should strive to support just about every raw format.

  • Importing garden pictures from Canon 350d, too much blue

    Hi,
I'm importing RAW images from my Canon 350d. The motives are pictures from the garden in summer with lots of green. When Aperture does its color correction the pictures look too blue. The fresh green is gone.
Are any others also seeing this behavior? What are you doing against it?
I usually correct the color temperature. But why does Aperture produce such a (IMHO) bad color quality?
    Regards,
    Rainer Joswig

No idea - but you can always save to the desktop in any program (Navigator in this case) making sure that the photos have the sRGB color profile and then importing into iPhoto from the desktop - in general since iPhoto imports photos they must be saved someplace - and the desktop is a good temp place

  • Why do not Canon 350D show up in the Finder?

    Hi
I have connected my Canon 350D, using the USB connector. It does not show up in the Finder window.
IPhoto will automatically start and I can download the images.
I prefer to use Photoshop CS2, but the canon is not shown there eighter! How can I get it to be shown on the bridge of Photoshop and in the find window???
Is there a driver or an update that I have to download for this???
The thing is that I now have to download all the images into Iphoto and then open them in the bridge. I dont want that. I want to use the bridge and pick the pictures I want to work with directly from the camera memorycard without loading then into Iphoto first!
    Please help!

    Hi there,
    go to Applications-->Image Capture-->Preferences-->General.
Change the setting so that Bridge is the selected Application.

  • IPhoto 6.0.5 + Mac OS 10.4.8 won't import photo from Canon 350D

    Hello,
I am using a Canon 350D and iPhoto since 18 months. Since my latest set of upgrades, iPhoto opens correctly when I plug my camera in but the Import process is not starting.
I upgraded simultanously Mac OS X to 10.4.8 and iPhoto to 6.0.5 (316) I am therefore not sure what caused the problem, one thing is sure, before my upgrades, everthing was OK.
Fortunately, I have an external card reader, which is correctly recognized and allows to import my pictures.
Any other users having the same problem ?
    Any tips ?
    Thanks
    Seb

    You're not alone.
I had to buy a card reader yesterday. This is obviously a 10.4.8 / 6.0.5 issue.

  • I can't download photos from my canon 350d to my apple mac - even using i-photo (what's image capture). The card doesn't fit in the computer and I don't ave a card reader. Is there a simple solution?

Can anyone help? I'm trying to get the pictures off my canon 350d onto my i-mac (I've tried through i-photo).

Option 1: Download Canon's software. Attach the camera to the computer (USB A to mini B) and the software will ask where to download your photos.
Option 2: Buy a CF card reader.  I recently purchased a PIXELFLASH card reader for $16US.

  • Communication between Canon 350D software suite and OS X 10.4.3

I have recently acquired a Canon 350D SLR camera and also decided that I would upgrade to OS X 10.4.3 in order to upgrade my Iphoto to version 5.0 (only available via the bundelled Ilife05 package unfortunately).
However, now that I am on 10.4, I have found that Installation disk for Canon software (camera window, image browser etc)is no longer able to install correctly - this did not seem to be a problem when I was working with OS X 10.2.
I have advised by Canon that it could be a firewall function that could be causing the problems. Anyone out there got any ideas as to how I might get over this hurdle?

So you are running iPhoto 5.0?
If so, do you still need the features of the canon software suite? I have used iPhoto for quite sometime with no issues. I have a canon and an Olympus.

  • How can I print from my MacBook Pro to Canon MP560 using rear tray?  I can't find that "option" in the print selection possibilities.

How can I print from my MacBook Pro to Canon MP560 using rear tray?  I can't find that "option" in the print selection possibilities.

    Sure can.
With a document open in Pages, select to print so that you can see the print dialog as shown below.
Note that to see this view, you may need to press the Show Details button in the bottom left corner. In the image above, since I have the expanded view displayed, this button changes to Hide Details
So with the view shown, first change the Presets menu to Default Settings. Then click the Layout drop menu and select Quality & Media. Make the changes you want and then click on the Presets menu and select Save Current Settings as Preset...
At the next window, give the Preset a name and select the Only this Printer radio button and then click OK to save it. That's it.
As for the Preset that you already have, if you no longer want this preset then you can delete it via the Show Presets menu pane that you've used already.

  • IPod and Canon 350d

    Hi.
I'm going to get an iPod Video (30 Gb) to be used as download tool of my camera using the iPod camera connector.
I have a Canon 350d: on the apple site, this model is not in the list of compatible model: any experiences using canon 350d with iPod via apple connector?
Moreover: when I download picture into iPod, Do the iPod save them using the original format (i.e. size) or is going to manipulate them?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ciao

one reason is to have a simple place to download my photo from my SLR-Camera when I'm far from my iMac: so I'm going to take also a travel charger and the iPod camera connector).

    Hey!
    Roberto,
This is a cut and paste from a reviewer of the Apple camera connector....
"I bought the iPod Camera Connector to use with my 60Gb iPod and Canon 350D camera. Took it out of box, plugged it in and it worked with prompts, downloaded sample of 11 (off) 3 to 4 Mb JPEG photos straight to the iPod and surprise, surprise, I could even view the photos which I was not expecting until next connected iPod to laptop from Appple product information. A good buy and cheaper than extra memory cards for my camera. "
