Macbook as every computer

I have a Mini and am about to purchase a MacBook. I want to sell the Mini for financial reasons. With the mini-DVI to VGA adapter, can I use the MacBook as a desktop replacement or should I either:
a) rethink the MacBook purchase
b) rethink selling the Mini
I wanted a notebook computer when I bought my Mini, but I got caught up in the Mini as an HTPC craze and bought one. The thing is, I am not using for that. I am using it for everyday computer and I ended up using my Dell as my MTPC.
I would have it now if the Apple store wasn't out of them, so now I have more time to think and discuss this before I do it.

You will get better battery life if you shut it down and disconnect the power adaptor at night, webpoet73. LiOn batteries don't like being fully charged all the time, and the added heat from leaving it running 24/7 will reduce battery longevity too. At the very least I'd be running it from the battery for a fair amount of time every week or so.
Occasional restarts can also be helpful in reducing memory issues with some less than perfectly written software, too.
I used a PB12 as a "desktop" for a couple of years and experienced the battery issue as a consequence myself.
One big plus of using a notebook in this fashion, by the way, compared to a "regular" desktop, is that the battery essentially provide you with a "built in" uninteruptible power supply!
Downsides include higher initial cost than an equivalent desktop, smaller HD's, slower internal optical drives and the fact that it actually takes up more desk space if you add an external screen and keyboard, and then compare it to an iMac.
It can certainly be a workable solution for many people though.
Cheers

Press any key on the wireless keyboard after you close the MBP and it goes to sleep. The computer will wake up with the external monitor as its display. This is called Clamshell mode.

I can receive emails, but I cannot send emails. This just started happening. I have an iPhone and I can send emails from my phone fine. It's just not working on my Macbook. Every time I try to send an email it goes straight to my outbox. Can anyone help?

Thank you for heading me in the right direction.  I reset my Mail account for Outgoing Mail Server to outbound.att.net:(customer ID)@att.net (instead of smtp.att.yahoo.com, per Apple's online troubleshooting information).   I'm not sure what "(Offline)" means when it appears at the end of my Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)??  In the Advanced box I clicked on "Use custom port:  465" and checked "Use Secure Sockets Layer."  Authentication:  Password; I have correct User Name and Password put in.  After doing all this, when I try to send emails again today, they go directly to the Outbox and sit there.
What's curious is that my first sent email this morning did go out using the Outgoing Mail Server, smtp.att.yahoo.com: (customer ID)@att.net(Offline) but subsequent emails I tried to send with this server were rejected with the message:  "Cannot send message using the server smtp.att.yahoo.com (etc.).  The SMTP server doesn't support TLS(SSL) on port 587.  Verify your account settings and try again."  That's when I tried resetting my Outgoing Mail Server to outbound.att.net (etc.), as mentioned above, and was unsuccessful in sending out any further emails.  I guess my next step is to contact my email service provider, AT&T, and see if they can help me.  Thanks, again, for taking the time to respond and for giving me your input!  Much appreciated!

I have a MacBook Pro 17" computer, and I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 phone, how do I get iTunes on my Android device?

You don't get the itunes program on your Android devise at all.
You would need to read the directions for your phone to learn how to put music on it.

It's not a virus, or any other kind of malware.
Most likely, you've got a problem with the Flash Player software. First, download and run the Flash uninstaller for Mac OS X 10.6 and up:
    uninstall_flash_player_osx.dmg
Then, download and install a fresh copy:

Something certainly is wrong.  Do not plug the external HHD in the MBP.  Male an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and bring the Lacie with you.
    Ciao.

I cannot deleted.  Computer keep telling that my dropbox is open.  Don't see how to shot it off.  Do I need to delete all pictures from dropbox first and delete application after.  Will I loose all these pictures? Usually, I copy all photos to iphoto app.

Restart your phone, hold the home button and the off button down till the apple symbol comes up. If that doesnt fix it , you need to do a restore in itunes by connecting to itunes , click on your phones name to the left, then click restore in the center of the screen and restore from backup.

  • Itunes hangs every time i connect iphone3G on every computer i plug it into

    Hi all
I am having a problem...itunes hangs literally every time i connect iphone3G on every computer i plug it into.. I use windows XP and have even just bought a brand new laptop, installed itunes and it does the same on that. It indicates to me that the lead may be faulty (tried different lead and same issue) or there's something in the phone OS that tries to start but doesn't when plugged in ...
When i do ctrl alt del and crash out of itunes the iphone happily charges itself so its not the USB ports...oh and i have left it running for hours so it's not a time issue...
I am at my wits end.

I have not seen a blue screen. iTunes simply hangs, forever, until I crash it.
I have tried on multiple different computers and it happens on all of them. ItUnes runs fine but when i try to connect it iTunes hangs. I have also tried plugging it in before and after iTunes kicks in but the result is the same.
This of course means that I cannot update the OS or download/organise music...eeek

I am having difficulty opening my iPhoto on my macbook. Every time I try to access it, it freezes or the application will just not open at all. What can I do to open it successfully?

Select iPhoto in the Applications folder the type Command+i to bring up its Info window.  That will tell you what version it is.
As a first fix attempt do the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
