Macbook Audio Echo problem

My MB has suddenly started emitting an echo sound on all audio. i noticed it first whilst using logic and thought i must've had a delay plugin instantiated, which i did not. i then tested on itunes, quicktime player and all other audio generating programs... the echo is on everything. it's not a massive echo, but it is clearly noticeable when i have instruments or drums soloed in Logic or am auditioning sounds in finder. Obviously i cannot continue to produce music on the system whilst this problem remains.
I have bootcamp on the MB also and the problem does not exist when running audio programs in windows.
Any ideas??
aj ok

I'm also interested in the solution to this - I have a similar problem. My audio isn't playign in stereo anymore, but it seems to be a software problem because everything is fine in Windows. I created a test audio file with sound in the left channel only, and it plays out both (although the right channel has significant echo; I'd almost describe it as sounding like a stereo with speakers hooked up out of phase).
Interestingly, I reinstalled the OS a week ago, and the problem was fixed (for a while). Sometime after that, when I was installing software and whatnot, it went back to this weird mono with echo. So, last night I did an archive and install of the OS, and it was fine again - until I ran software update (installing 10.5.7 and the other current fixes). This morning when I rebooted to finish the updates, it's back the way it was. I haven't made any other changes.
I'm wondering if we have the same problem? I'm wondering what software you have installed - to be honest, the only things that I can think of that would mess with audio are iTunes, VLC, Toast, Skype, and maybe Adium? Beyond that, I don't have any particularly exotic installs. How about you? Match anything on my list? Maybe we can narrow this down.
Anyone have any ideas?

  • Macbook Audio In Problems

    Hi,
On my early '08 Macbook I was using Garageband and thought it would be a good idea to plug the output from my guitar amp into the audio in. Turns out this was not at all a good idea as it now doesn't work at all. I believe it's a hardware issue as using the audio utility it detects nothing when feeding in audio and I've tried hard wiping the computer and starting over. The audio out is fine and works as usual.
Does anyone know how much of an issue this is to fix? Will I just be able to replace the audio or will the entire motherboard need replacing?
    Thanks, Ed

I have the same problem, I'm running it on a macbook air with and i7 and 8 gigs of ram and I get cpu load readings of >100%. It's slightly ridiculous, I may downgrade till a fix comes or I figure out the problem. On a side note I have tried the 64bit version and it runs flawlessly I'm just unable to use many vsts so its not practical to use.

  • New Powerbook Audio Stutter / Looping / Echo problem

I though people would like to hear the problem that some of the 15" and 17" powerbooks have been having.
I tried recording the sound from iTunes using Audio Hijack, but when the weird audio issue happened and I played back the recording, you couldn't hear it in the recording (i.e. it played normally), so it seems to me that it's related to some basic audio issue (because Audio Hijack couldn't hear it when it was recording iTunes) rather than a specific application.
I was able to record the sound using a cable from my powerbook to another computer (which then recorded the line-in using Audio Hijack).
Here's a short quicktime capture of the sound:
    http://s89317810.onlinehome.us/AudioStuttering.mov
Has anyone heard anything about a fix? It doesn't seem to be related to Airport use for me since I don't often use Airport at home.

    Hey guys (first post
I own the PowerBook G4 high res model and I've noticed this 'echo' effect when listening to my iTunes. I remember creating another account for my sister and from what I've heard so far, her sound did not stutter.
Although unrelated, my system sounds did not work after some time (emptying bin, copy paste sounds etc.) even though in System preferences the option for such sounds was checked.
I've come from the Windows world and with the normallity of formatting that computer, I decided to format my Mac for other reasons aside (with the included discs) and to my suprise the stutter/echoing problem has seemed to dissapear on my primary account. It's been 3 days since the install and I've been listening to garageband files, midi, iTunes, internet streaming, DVD viewing all of which the sound did not stall/loop.
In terms of a corrupted file, it seems plausable that this may be the case.
    Cheers

  • Does anyone have a solution to fixing the Facetime echo problem?

I get this echo that occurs only on my end. It's louder than my friends who I video chat with. They use an older model of the MacBook Pro, but they do not have this echo problem. Does anyone have a solution to this?

I have the same problem.  If I use an iPad for facetime, it works fine. If I use skype or voip, it works fine. If I use facetime, the other party hears an echo. To fix it 'i have to turn the audio down to inaudible levels. "use headphones" isn't a solution, when it works fine in Skype.
What probably happened is, previous macbooks have had the microphone and speakers sufficiently separate that they've never had to bother with echo cancellation.  Now they've screwed up with the positioning on the retina macbook pro and facetime testing never even occurred to them. I've seen plenty of posts about this issue, not a single apple response. Apple really needs to respect their customers more.

  • Mac mini audio output problems

This is similar to a problem that appeared before, but with a different twist.
On 4 July all was well. On 5 July I switched on and there was no "chord" from the Mac. When I collected my mail - no sound from my speakers (which are part of my screen). Logged on to a couple of sites - no sound.
The System Profiler, under the "Audio (Built In)" category, says: "No Built-in Audio." I know that's wrong because it's always worked before and when I plug my headset in it works fine.
When I go to the Sound preferences panel in System Preferences, it finds the headset but if I unplug that it finds nothing.
I tried running the hardware test (by putting in the OS X install disc and holding D during startup.) It couldn't find a problem.
So, as far as I can see, audio output is fine for the USB headset output but not for the others. Is there a simple fix? The nearest Apple store is about 200 miles away and I don't fancy the idea of posting the Mac off.
(And I think it's still under warranty for a couple more weeks.)
Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

hello mini users with the "no audio output" problem
it seems that there are faulty output jacks in the macbook and the mac mini
there are two things you can try:
i tried everything and began thinking about what new software i had installed. it was "macam" which enables you to use older webcams on OSX. i needed that to use my webcam on skype.
macam installs a file called "macam.component"
if you have the same, do this - take that file out of:
    (your hard drive)/library/quicktime - macam.component
and just put it on your desktop
restart, then in your sound pref's choose your audio output (if doesn't work restart again)
the first time i took it out, i had my sound back instantly, another time i had to choose audio output in sound prefs. you kind of have to try different things. after you get your sound back, you can put back "macam.component" to use your webcam.
it seems macam causes the problem, the two can not work at the same time.
the second thing: if you dont have "maccam" try plugging and unplugging output jack a few times and restarting until you have sound.
the problem still could be with the OSX 10.4.10 update / quicktime...or maybe even a hardware problem like others with macbooks were saying (with the red light), not sure.
people with macbooks and who have the red light on, say to use a paperclip to turn off the switch inside.
my mini does not have a red light on. i tried using a paperclip but it doesnt work.
hope this helps, beleive me i feel your pain!!!!
what good is a computer without sound?
extremely annoying problem that i hope apple looks into and fixes

  • Audio Echo Issue

    Hi,
I'm building a audio/video chat. When I use the Audio sample which is in LCCS SDK, I faced some problems.
When we increase gain then echo increases even with the headset. But when we reduce the gain to 50% then echo problem is very little bit but the volume is so low that we have scream a bit to get heard. Is there any way to increase the volume and also keep the echo low. With the same internet speed we are able to hear in skype loud and clear-without echo or volume problem.
Do we have any other levers of control beside gain to play with echo and volume? We have echosupression ON on both the sides. We are using exact same code as in the LCCS sample called " Audio/Audio.mxml"
We used both the codecs SPEEX and NELLYMOSER but didn't get any help. we have faced same echo and volume issues.
    Thanks,
    Sanjay

  • Flash videos playing with audio echo on initial load.

I have been having issues playing Flash videos in the current version of Firefox (10.0) as well as the previous version (unknown) over the past few months.
When I open a page with a video it will begin playing with an echo as if two videos are playing at the same time with a slight delay on the second video causing an audio echo effect. So basically one video with echoing audio. The websites that I experience this the most are yahoo sports (happens practically every time) and gamespot (happens occasionally). If I refresh the page the echoing effect goes away.
    I am running Windows 7 64-bit.
I have updated video drivers on my ATI Radeon HD 5800 series.
My flash player / shockwave is 11,1,102,55 (updated) but I know I have experienced the same problem with previous versions.
I have the following plug-ins enabled:
    1. Adobe Acrobat 10.1.2.45
    2. Current version of Ad-Block
    3. Divx Plus Web Player 2.2.0.52
    4. Divx VOD Helper Plug-In 1.1.0.6

    8. Veetle Plug-Ins (3 total plug ins) 0.9.17.0
I have some others as well but I thought these were the only relevant ones.

  • MacBook Audio Output Not Working, Except for Garageband?

    Good day everyone,
I have a 13-inch MacBook '08, current version 10.6.8 (can't upgrade to OS X Mavericks – hardware is too old), and I've had a serious problem, and I feel that I've tried EVERYTHING to fix it.
My Macbook audio output does not work AT ALL while trying to stream video (i.e. YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) or listen to music. When I play with the audio adjustment buttons, it doesn't even make the "popping" sound. It DOES however have audio output when I open Garageband and play the instruemnts i.e. Grand Piano. It also plays the "start up" sound when I boot my MacBook up. Otherwise, the audio seems to not work at all.
I've played with the "Sound" settings on "System Preferences." I've played with the audio jack (note: there's not red light, so that's not the problem), I've blown into the hole, stuck paper clips in there and fiddled around... nothing. Please help, I'll take any advice!
    Thanks in advance.

Well, even though the input jack had no red light, I performed the actions demonstrated on YouTube in the video "How to fix macbook red light head phone jack" and the problem is fixed.

  • Audio Sync Problems With Share YouTube -- OSX not iOS

I've replicated this several times. It's maddening and bizarre. *Share YouTube*
Exporting a FCPX video using the "SHARE" menu and choosing YouTube causes the resulting upload to be out of sync when viewed in Safari or other browsers on iOS
Viewing the same video on the iPad with the built in YouTube app, the video plays in sync
Viewing the same video on AppleTV 2 (with the 5.1 update), the video plays in sync.
If I export using Export Media menu item under the SHARE menu, and then from QuickTime Player choose Export For Web (under the File menu) and manually upload, the video is in sync.
    Note, that using
Feel free to try on this short simple and silly video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGTQNMJdPRQ&list=UUiDxioBFJCPC-8OUFifsx8A&index=2 &feature=plcp
Anyone else experience this. Is this a bug or a feature? Rather not go through three steps to upload a simple YouTube video.

We've got the same problem and yep, it's infuriating that are so few posts about it.
It doesn't happen with every video, but the vast majority of files that we've tried to either export directly to YouTube from QTX or export locally and then manually upload to YouTube end up with shockingly bad audio sync (and also some colour issues, but that's another story).
As a small video production company we were chuffed to bits with the improved export speed in QTX and quick to make use of it. But when we realised there was a problem, we had to revert back to using QT7's painfully slow export.
We've run experiments on a brand new iMac and MacBook Pro running the most up-to-date version of OS X and still no joy. Always the same audio sync problems with the same video files.
In the meantime however,  we've found that the settings advised on this YouTube help page have given us the best (albeit slow) results at both 25fps and 30fps when exporting from QT7:

  • Audio echo during capture CS3

During capture I get this terrible audio echo.  If I go into the Windows mixer panel and set a slider called Premiere down to zero that will stop it.  But if I then wish to hear the audio (from Premiere) after the capture I have to turn it up again.  Sureley this is not the correct way to do it.
It seems as though the input audio is being monitored and the delayed Premiere output at the same time.  This will only happen when the capture screen is open.
Anyone any idea how to stop this without constantly playing with the mixer?
    Very annoying.

Problem is only while the capture screen is being used. The delay is very pronounced.
So, your Captured footage does not exhibit this echo. Is that correct? Obviously, you have a latency issue. What are your Audio playback settings? I would also wonder about the Matrox card, as these have caused all sorts of Audio issues, though I do not recall any with Capture.
If the first statement is true, then your footage is clean and good, and all you have to do is adjust the necessary settings during Capture.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Has your Macbook Air overheating problems been solved?

    Hi All,
Has there been a solution to the Macbook Air overheating problem for you?
I'm considering selling my MBA but want to see first if there has been any new updates on this issue.
I have a Macbook Air with the specifications as follows:
Model: MacBook Air 1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Production year: 2008
    Production week: 15 (April)
    OS X Version 10.5.7
Have had the computer for about a year now and it has been constantly overheating and becoming more or less unusable when doing so. Have been hoping upgrades to the software would solve this eventually but that does not seem to have happened.
As I'm writing this room temperature is about 20 degrees celcius. Laptop sits on a table with power cable plugged in. Not running any external screen. There is no video streaming or music playing. Only the Firefox browser and a few more idle apps are active such as Mail and Skype (in the background). Even under these conditions the fan is currently running loud at 6100rpm and the Macbook Air is very hot underneath.
CPU temperature is currently 54 degrees Celsius. Both cores seem to be active.
Now, as an experiment I will head over to YouTube to watch a video and open up Microsoft Word in the background, a perfectly normal usage for a computer this new. This is what happens:
The computer starts to become painfully slow. After for example clicking an item in the browser there is a 1-3 second delay before the click actually becomes effective. It's now so hot underneath that I would not want to keep it in my lap. It is hard to use the mouse pointer properly as it does not update in realtime, I have to assume where it will land based on my movements. When scrolling, the spinning wheel icon becomes active. Everything is now happening in slow motion.
Video is lagging heavily. I can only see probably 1 out of every 10 frames or less of the video. All applications running are very slow. CPU temperature is now 64 degrees celsius. Fan is at 6200. Computer is now unusable for me. When I scroll a page in the browser it takes about 2-3 seconds before anything happens. Changing tabs takes 5-6 seconds after I click them. I will have to shut it down before re-starting and resuming work. When room temperature is even higher on a hot day needless to say everything gets a lot worse quicker.
Is this normal for Macbook Air's? If that is the case they are more or less unusable for most types of normal 2009 year usage (video, audio, browsing, office work etc).
What solutions have you found? Coolbook? Software/Firmware updates? Hardware changes? Please let me know if you have been able to make your MBA not overheat under normal usage.

    Hi Everybody,
Thanks for your replies to start with.
I have tried to install Coolbook now and has it running. When using 'throttling' and letting it change CPU speeds (I think..) the problem still remains. When watching a video or other demanding task the temperature goes way up. Running a CPUTest (small or big) gets CPU temperatures of up to 84-85 C. Fan of course at 6200rpm all the time.
Right now, I have Coolbook set to 800Mhz and 0.9V. Apps running are Firefox, Skype, Mail and iTunes with no audio playing. CPU temperature at 56 c and fan speed (as usual) at 6200rpm. I can use the computer now. It is still lagging and not very fast at all. Sometimes text appear 1-2 seconds after I have written it on the keyboard.
So Coolbook has made a difference for me, but only when putting the CPU speed down to 800MHz. I wouldn't call reducing the CPU speed to half a 'solution' though and will not keep that as a long term solution. Reducing voltages for higher CPU-speeds 0.9875V for 1600MHz does not work, it still heats up massively.
Have used the MBA for the whole day today and can't recall a single time the fan has not been around 6200rpm except right after boot.
Thanks for the tips on upgrading to 10.5.8. I will try that right away and let you know how it works out.
Have also considered buying some cooling device but just as you say that feels like a bit of a last thing to resort to.
I'm surprised Apple hasn't responded stronger to this. Had this happened in the car industry we would have seen thousands of cars being sent back to the garage to be fixed.
If this only has to do with some specific production weeks then the right thing to do would be for Apple to let those people have their computers either fixed or replaced.
