Macbook audio problem

how can i fix the audio of my macbook so i can hear two things at the same volume. whenever i am facetiming with someone on my macbook, the music that i am listening too on itunes goes to a very low volume and i cant even hear it. it recently started doing this after downloading mavericks onto my macbook.

The loud pops are not anything to worry about. I get the same thing when I first turn on the computer or when I wake it from sleep while it's connected to my stereo system.
The cause is the change in electromagnetic fields that happens when electricity starts flowing through everything in your computer. It's nothing to worry about.

Is there any resolution to the mysterious sound device banishing until restarting your mac?

it's definitely NOT the firmware update, as evidenced by the fact that i haven't installed either of the two recent firmware updates yet.

  • Macbook Pro XP Boot Camp Audio Problem

I've got a uni body Macbook Pro running XP with boot camp. Everything has been fine for the last 4 or 5 months I've had it. In the last few weeks though, I've been having really annoying audio problems. The only reason I have it XP even installed is for games (Battlefield 2 and Steam). I'd run skype to talk to a buddy and then play the game. Audio was fine, including the mic.
Lately, skype will just shut down out of no where and give me that error message where it asks you to send a report. Also, the audio in Battlefield 2 will just cut out. I'd still be in the game and connected but there would be no audio, except for the game VOIP. Remember things were working fine for months.
First I tried repairing with the Mac disk, then I tried different Real Tek drivers, then I tried uninstalled and reinstalling the game. None of that worked. Finally, I nuked the partition and did a clean install. The first thing I installed was BF2. Guess what. SAME EXACT PROBLEM. Audio cut out about 10 minutes in. In game VOIP was fine but all other audio was gone.
Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas at ALL? There aren't exactly a bunch of different drivers I can try, and like I said I've already tried reinstalled the drivers from the mac disk. I have no idea what else to do.
tl:dr - new mbp audio worked fine for months, lately audio in games totally cuts out. Tried reinstalled game, drivers, etc, didn't work. Nuked from orbit and did clean bootcamp install of XP. Battlefield 2 has same problem, same with skype. What next?

What anti-virus solution are you running in Windows?
Users have experienced crashes and blue screens of death from Norton products. Norton has resolved these issues in their 2009 product line. I would only recommend Norton 2009 products, Kaspersky, and AVG for anti-virus solutions.
Have you formatted your Windows partition as NTFS, or has it been formatted as Fat 32?
Fat 32 will not handle file sizes of 3.5 GB or larger, and, overall, it seems to always cause issues.
Have you tried a SMC reset?

  • Audio problems from burning DVD's from Macbook Pro?

    Hey guys,
So lately I have been having problems with burning DVD.  I use either iDVD or Roxio Toast Titanium 11 too burn movies to play on my television. After burnign them I notice all of them have audio problems.  It's as if the audio is faint for the dialogue but when background music plays its blaring! I checked my TV and its definitely not my Television because sound plays from both speakers.  I was wondering if any other Macbook users had this problem or users of either of these programs had this problem because it's such a hassle burning movies without really enjoying them.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Strange audio problem with my MacBook Pro

    Hello everyone,
first of all I should say that this is not the well known "no-audio-from-internal-speakers-and-red-light-burning-on-microphone-jack" audio issue on many MacBook Pros. However, I still hope some of you experts can help me.
Here's what happens. At some point of the last few days, I realized I was not getting any sound from my Mac's internal speakers except the typical boot sound on startup. Then I opened the System Preferences/Sound window and saw that I have only one output option: "Headphones - Headphone port". No internal speakers at all. This doesn't mean I can use my headphones at all... When I connect them to the computer with my System Preferences still open, then the option "Headphones" change automatically to "Digital out" and no sound comes out of them. If I take them out, then I can see the red light for about half a second, then it's off. Ironically, I still can hear some sound (even perfect audio) out of my headphones when I don't put them completely into the jack but at some very unstable point at about 90% of the connector's size.
I can use the function keys F10-F12 to mute or turn up and down the sound... Everything seems to work - still no sound comes out. I thought of course of a hardware problem but I can hear the mac startup din-dong effect like always and I even let the AHT run with no negative results. I also tried repairing the hard disk permissions, as I read somewhere, with the Disk Utility. Still no results.
Anyone to give me a clue what's happening on my Mac? I bought it about 2 months ago, and the software is up-to-date (Mac OS X 10.6.6).
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks,
    Luis

    Hi friends
I too have a macbook pro running 10.6.6 and an odd audio problem which has recently shown itself and although different to Luiscv's problem, may well be related.
My audio works fine through the built in speakers but gets all fruity with some but not all audio as soon as I plug in the headphones. I get crystal clear audio when playing mp3's through quicktime whether I have the headphones plugged in or not.
youtube flash movies through Safari and VLC .mkv files are problematic. I do get audio but the stereo sound somehow gets split so the dialogue gets very quiet and fuzzy and the musical soundtrack gets louder.
If this is a codec/decompression issue why does the sound come good when I unplug the headphones? Why are some files totally fine with both headphones and internal speakers?
I have updated perian, zapped p-ram, repaired permissions all to no avail.
Thanks in advance to anyone able to solve this one.
    Best wishes,
    Wayne Batistic

  • Update: audio problems connecting macbook pro to insignia TV: resolved

There have been posts from users who have expressed frustration that they cannot get audio when they attempt to connect their macbook pro to an Insignia TV.
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=10830387
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2192206
Insignia customer service also attempts to state that the pre-April 2010 macbook pros cannot get audio output to the TV, because the units are designed to get the audio on the same HDMI and no alternative audio input is available on the TV.
    http://community.insigniaproducts.com/t5/Televisions/Connecting-MacBook-Pro-to-T V/td-p/5564
For the Insignia models (from 2010 onwards and possible some from 2009 as well), there is a simple workaround that does not seem to be published elsewhere on the internet (as far as I can see):
Use the HDMI port 1 only (audio does not work with port 2, port 3 or port 4) to connect your macbook and you will receive 1080p video signal.
Use a mini stereo audio cable (example link below) and connect your macbook audio output to a designated green color coded audio port on the TV located right next to the VGA. You will receive full stereo audio.
Example link for mini stereo audio cable:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00116VJIO

I recently acquired a new Insignia TV and had sound trouble.  I went to Best Buy to inquire about the cable in the link above and the sales manager had doubts.  He recommended a RCA cable with a male connection at both ends.  The RCA jack is on the bottom edge of the TV display next to the VGA connection.  The sound worked perfectly using the RCA cable from the headphone jack on the Mac.  I connected the video with a HDMI adapter from the monitor mirroring port.

  • Firewire audio problems with OS X 10.5.6

    Hello,
I’m experiencing audio problems with Firewire 400 on my Macbook running Mac OSX 10.5.6.
I’ve got a 2.4Ghz IntelCore 2 Duo with 4 GB RAM and 59 GB available on the internal HD.
It’s hooked up to a brand new Mackie D.4 mixer with 2 Firewire outputs. The problems occur on both Firewire outputs.
I’ve installed automatically from the software update (which I will never do again) to 10.5.6. I never tried the D.4 with 10.5.5 so I can’t tell if the problems occur there also.
The main problem is that after a couple of minutes of recording the sound starts to break up and get really distorted. After a while the sound comes back again.
The second problem is that Soundtrack Pro or Audacity don’t get any audio input from the D.4, although audio input is clearly visible in System Preferences – Sound.
The only sound program that works with all 14 Firewire channels is Ableton, but also in Ableton the distortion occurs.
An example of the distortion can be checked here:
    http://media.kaalslag.com/firewire-distortion-problem-mackieD4+Macbook.mp3
I’ve roamed several forums and sites to solve the problem and I tried these solutions:
I updated again to 10.5.6. with the full combo download from the Apple site. Restarted. Problem still there.
I shut Airport off, because lots of sites mentioned problems with Airport conflicting with audio/firewire. Didn’t work.
I did the work around with shutting the Macbook off, disconnecting the D.4, restarting the Macbook, opening Audio/Midi Setup, connecting the D.4 again, toggling the format frequencies a couple of times. Again, no use.
Right now I’m using my “old” Macbook again to record from vinyl. This one is still running on OSX 10.4.11. No problems so far.
I’ve had the distortion problems occuring before with an USB interface. Hoped that the Mackie Firewire would solve the problem, but it seems now that there’s a serious audio Firewire problem which is still not solved in OSX 10.5.
Any help, tips and/or a work around would be much appreciated. Thanks!

You could try using another computer in Target Disk mode (as an "external HD"), or you can connect the firewire cable and disconnect all other network cables (turning off airport). Then on each computer go to the "Network" system preferences and select "Built-in Firewire" from the list of ports and choose "Manually" from the drop-down menu next to "Configure". Enter the following IP addresses and subnet masks, apply the changes.
    _Computer 1_
    IP Address: 192.168.1.1
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    _Computer 2_
    IP Address: 192.168.1.2
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
After those ip addresses are entered and you've clicked "Apply", ensure that for both computers you have file sharing enabled (done in the "Sharing" system preferences), and then check the Finder sidebar to see if the computers can see each other (their names should appear under "Shared" in the sidebar--if not, try restarting).
If the computers dont appear (even after restarting), using the "Connect To" option that's available in the Finder's "Go" menu. In there, to connect to another computer enter it's IP address as follows:
    afp://IP_ADDRESS
If you're on the computer with the ip address of 192.168.1.1, you would enter 192.168.1.2 as "IP_ADDRESS". The "afp" is the protocol (just like "http" for web), and stands for "Apple Filing Protocol"...Apple's file sharing protocol.

  • Flash Media Encoder 8 - audio problem

I'm having an audio problem with Flash Media Encoder 8. I am
converting a long Quicktime movie to Flash - about 28 minutes.
After encoding, when I play it back, at about the 20 minute mark
the audio just drops out. I've developed somewhat of a workflow and
have done this with similar Quicktime files many times and have not
had this problem. Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be
    happening? Anyone else see this?
    Some specs:
Flash 8, Mac OSX 10.4.10, MacBook Pro C2D

    Five Pi,
It may have something to do with the audio rate in your QT
video. When using encoder, make sure your audio rate of your QT
file is higher than the audio rate of your Encoder settings.
Its just a guess, I have had the same problems, but I set the
audio quality to very high when exporting from Final Cut Pro, and
then set them to medium quality in encoder, and no more audio
    problems.

  • MacBook Audio Output Not Working, Except for Garageband?

    Good day everyone,
I have a 13-inch MacBook '08, current version 10.6.8 (can't upgrade to OS X Mavericks – hardware is too old), and I've had a serious problem, and I feel that I've tried EVERYTHING to fix it.
My Macbook audio output does not work AT ALL while trying to stream video (i.e. YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) or listen to music. When I play with the audio adjustment buttons, it doesn't even make the "popping" sound. It DOES however have audio output when I open Garageband and play the instruemnts i.e. Grand Piano. It also plays the "start up" sound when I boot my MacBook up. Otherwise, the audio seems to not work at all.
I've played with the "Sound" settings on "System Preferences." I've played with the audio jack (note: there's not red light, so that's not the problem), I've blown into the hole, stuck paper clips in there and fiddled around... nothing. Please help, I'll take any advice!
    Thanks in advance.

Well, even though the input jack had no red light, I performed the actions demonstrated on YouTube in the video "How to fix macbook red light head phone jack" and the problem is fixed.

  • USB audio problems with 2013 iMac

I'm having a strange audio problem with USB microphones and headsets. The issue with my Logitech H650e is shown in this screencast I recorded. In the first part of the screencast, I am not speaking into the mic—yet you can see the levels fluctuating as if there is static playing (not in a natural pattern that you'd see when someone is speaking). In the next part of the video I demonstrate that selecting the built-in iMac mic for input, and then re-selecting the Logitech headset temporarily solves the problem. You can see the input start to fluctuate normally as it should when I am speaking. But at 0:31 in the screencast, you can see the input levels freeze and stop registering anything. I continued to speak until the end of the screencast, but no input was detected. For this screencast, I was on a Go To Webinar call, but the problem occurs regardless of whether I'm using Skype, Go To Webinar, GarageBand or any other software.
The problem with my Blue Yeti USB microphone is also different. In that case, the input does not freeze as it does with the Logitech headset. The levels appear as you would expect, and it seems to work. However, the person on the other end can hear static in the background, even though I don't hear it in my own headphones. I learned this because I just tried to do a Skype interview with the Blue Yeti, and the interviewer told me they could hear static. We closed Skype and called each other back twice, but the problem persisted. Then, suspecting the problem was related to what I described above with the Logitech, I unplugged the Yeti and then plugged it into my Macbook Air 2013 (also running Mavericks). Lo and behold the static completely disappeared.
My Griffin iMic and Audio Technica lavalier mic (attached to the iMic) behaves similarly to the Yeti, except in this case I can hear the static when I speak with my monitoring headphones. The input works but I get a lot of cracking and static in the background. This was confirmed by calling the Skype Test Call number and recording a message, which is then played back.
    Here are the facts:
All 3 of my USB audio microphones/headsets do not work with my 2013 iMac running Mavericks
All 3 of these microphones/headsets worked fine with my 2008 Mac Pro running Mountain Lion
All 3 of these microphones/headsets work fine with my 2013 Macbook Air running Mavericks
In this other thread, several people are reporting similar issues with the iMac 2013 and Mavericks. At least two people did not have the issue when the iMac 2013 was running Mountain Lion. This of course suggests the issue is the combination of the iMac 2013 and Mavericks.

  • Audio problem when importing video files.

    Hello everyone,
I just started using FCP X a few days ago for a university project and I seem to encounter an audio problem when importing videos in .mp4, .mov format or via the import from camera option.
Indeed I need to import videos in .mp4 and .mov format into FCP X. The import in itself is normal I can see my videos into the events/clips library and if I play them from the library I can hear the sound quite perfectly.
However, when I want to edit my videos and put it in the timeline, there is no audio. As a result I started to think that my videos could be the problem so I tried the option "import from camera" option using the Isight camera of my macbook pro but the same things happened. I could hear the sound from the events/clips library but not from the timeline (I can't see any audiowaves in the timeline).
I found a solution using quicktime and extracting the audio of the video in .m4a then importing the videos files and the audi files corresponding but it's a long process and a waste of time  as FCP X should be able to import the audio of my video into the timeline directly. Especially if it can read it from events/clips library.
I hope I explained myself clearly and you could help me resolve my problem.
    Cheers
    Christophe
    PS: I'm using FCP X version 10.0

    Update to 10.0.5.
You have an incorrect setting when you edit. Try trashing your preferences. Post screen shots of your timeline and toolbar.

  • Logic X audio problems (pop, click, stutter)

Has anyone else experienced audio problems in Logic X? This happens with just a single EXS instrument loaded. When I add notes or playback the audio signal clicks. It seems to be a buffer issue but I'm running 128 samples which doesn't seem that aggressive (especially with only a single instrument loaded). Switching to 256 samples seemed to make things better but it still hitches. I'm running on the latest generation macbook air (core i5 1.3ghz haswell, 4gb ddr3 ram, 128gb ssd) which seems like it should be plenty. Logic is 10.0.0.3 and OSX is 10.8.5 and I'm using on-board sound card. I tried on a core 2 duo macbook air with the same software versions and settings and it works flawlessly. Anyone have any ideas?

I had the same problem with my new 27-in. iMac (Late 2013) and so far it seems to have gone away after talking with Apple support today. I was getting clicks and pops about every 10 minutes and I had to either unplug and replug my Apogee Duet 2, or change the buffer size in Logic, which only provided a temporary solution.
Apple support today had me do the following:
#1 Shut down my computer and unplug everything (all USB's, external hard drives etc.)
#2 Unplug the power cord, wait 15 seconds, and plug it back in.
#3 Turn the computer back on, but as soon as you press the power button to turn it on, you have to hold Option+Command+P+R
#4 You will hear the boot-up chime (or whatever) twice, and after the second chime, let go of the keys.
#5 If you get a Mac Utility screen or something other than your normal login, shut down the computer once more and restart.
#6 Login as usual, and the problem should be fixed.
Apparently resetting the "NVRAM or PRAM" is what this does, although I don't know what it means. He also provided me with two articles to use in the case that it happens again, although he said it shouldn't:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    About NVRAM and PRAM
    Hopefully this will help.

  • Audio problems while playing videos from superdrive

Hi, i've got a macbook pro with leopard and a bootcamp partition with windows xp.
When i play videos (divx or dvds) from my superdrive under windows, i have audio problems (like noise), but the same videos are fine in leopard or if i play them from another storage, for example from usb.
Perhaps it's a problem with last bootcamp drivers..or maybe there is something wrong with my superdrive. i remember this wasnt an issue when i bought my mac (less then a year ago).
Thanks in advance for the help.
    Mirko

    I'm having the same problem.
I had a video file that I had to convert for my iPod & iPhone, after doing so, only a white video screen and just the audio.
What the heck is going on? it seems like a few people are having this problem!

  • MBA 13 Audio Problem

I'm having an unique audio problem with my MacBook Air 13 (2GB/128GB). Whenever I browse the web, my MBA's speakers make a loud zapping noise, and the audio goes totally dead. Volume control doesn't work, and it sometimes shows the crossed out speaker unavailable icon. iTunes and QuickTime play just fine with no problem. But whenever I'm browsing the web, it happens. I'm starting to guess it might be something to do with Flash player plug-in, since it seems to happen when the websites contain some Flash contents. The audio comes back after restarting, but it's just annoying and it hurts my ears when I'm using the headsets. Any suggestions?

Thanks. I'll try that software. I'm having problem with any website which has flash videos, flash animations, and flash app, like games and stuff. Weird thing is sometimes I can view those sites with no problem at all, then suddenly it zaps, and all the audio goes crazy. I may try to clean install the whole thing from the scratch and see how it goes. I appreciate the suggestions!

  • How to Fix Intermittent Optical Audio Problems using Netflix?

I recently purchased the latest Apple TV and all software is up-to-date.  But I have started having intermittent audio problems only when using the Netflix app on the ATV device.  I am connected to my TV with HDMI, and running the optical audio out from my ATV to a soundbar.  On some, but not all movies, right when it starts streaming there is a loud "CRACK" and then the video continues streaming, but the audio is totally silent.
The issue is definitely with the Apple TV device and only occurs when using the optical audio out from the Apple TV and only when using Apple's Netflix app.
If I remove the optical audio connection and just use the audio on my TV coming from the HDMI, it's fine.  I can also hear audio just fine using the Netflix app on my iPod Touch or just streaming in Safari on my MacBook Pro.  It's only when using the ATV Netflix app, and it's not with all movies, only some.
But when a movie has the problem, it always has the problem no matter what day/time I try to stream it.
    Very irritating.
    Does anyone know a fix?
    Thanks.
    Kurt

Same problem here.  Since the last update, my Netflix streaming has been awful.  Not only does the audio cut off but sometimes the video will cut off and I can only hear the audio.  Then whatever I'm watching will constantly bump me off and sometimes I won't be able to get back in unless I restart ATV.
This is only ATV as Netflix streams on my MBP, imac and iphone w/ no problem....
Wish there was some way we could revert to a previous version of the software.  If so, I want to revert back to the version before the last update as everything worked great...
