Macbook Backlit Keyboard - Working Boot Camp Fix!

I just discovered a small tool which fixes the Boot Camp keyboard backlight drivers... It basically allows the user to turn off keyboard leds completely or turn off Boot Camp's poor auto-adjustment, without a need to kill bootcamp.exe
http://www.powerplan7.com/features_macbook.htm
You might ask, what's the question? OK, I'd like to know is it possible to somehow turn Macbook keyboard backlight off WITHOUT using this 3rd-party tool... Does anyone know is it a registry fix, driver command or something else?

I'm not a hardcore software developer, but after some analysis I would say it's a complex thing. Looks like this application drives Apple System Management Controller directly, through the raw driver... So forget registry fixes

  • 17" MacBook Pro Core i5 Boot Camp Nvidia 64 bit driver install issue

Can't get correct Nvidia driver to install on 17" MacBook Pro core i5. Windows 7 64 bit is installed and running but its using a standard VGA driver for the video card so the full resolution of the display is unatainable. I've loaded the snow leopard windows 64 bit drivers, downloaded the BootCamp 3.1 64bit drivers and installed but each time I try to run it the Nvidia part of the installer closes with the error, you are trying to use a 32bit uninstaller for a 64bit program, and it exits. I've double checked to make sure I have the 64bit driver installer instead of the windows 7 32bit installers but I still get the error every time. I then downloaded Nvidias own driver for windows 7 64bit Gt 330M and it gets the same error. Please help?

A number of people in this and other forum threads have reported problems with the Nvidia drivers when installing Windows 7 (64bit) on the new Macbook Pro (April 2010).
The problems appear to be due to an installation of Boot Camp 3.0, followed by the update to Boot Camp 3.1. As Boot Camp 3.0 does not include the Nvidia graphics drivers for the
Macbook Pro 2010, the graphics card is not recognized and the subsequent update to Boot Camp 3.1 does not complete successfully.
The proper approach consist of installing Boot Camp 3.1, which is included in the system disk that shipped with the laptop. A copy of that version was posted e.g. here
http://files.me.com/jason_fearing/an51fn. One should not use on the Macbook Pro 2010 the Boot Camp version 3.0 that shipped with the original DVD of Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
I had the same problems that were reported in the forum, when installing Boot Camp 3.0 + Boot Camp 3.1 update on Windows 7 (64bit). First I had to manually run the 64bit Boot Camp setup, as suggested by others, and then I had to install the Nvidia drivers with the modified INF files from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/, as the graphics card was not recognized.
However when I used the proper Boot Camp 3.1 that came with the laptop, everything went completely smoothly and the installation consisted of just clicking on the setup file.

  • Slim Wireless Keyboard Not Working (Boot-Camp (Windows XP SP2) Leopard

I installed Boot Camp with Windows XP SP2 on my iMac. My new slim apple wireless keyboard did not after I rebooted to finish the install. It worked when I was installing it though. My wireless mighty mouse works fine with xp.I have given my keyboard many passkeys in the bluetooth settings on windows, but it still doesn't work. I have Mac OS X Leopard. My boot camp version is 2.0. I have also tried to repair the drivers with the boot camp drivers on the leopard disk but that was unsucessful.
    Help Soon, Thanks

I tried what Snackyotter did with no success. I don't really use the Caps Lock Key, or the Option Key at boot, when I want to switch to Boot-Camp and Mac OS X I just change the Boot Disk in System Preferences & vise-versa. Thanks for trying to help though. This weekend I am returning my Apple Slim Wireless Keyboard at the Apple Store. I still have the original packaging and receipt, I bought it offline and received it a few days ago. If the return doesn't go as planned and I'm stuck with this keyboard I will keep this question labeled 'unanswered'. If the return does go well I will label it solved, there is no need really to keep this topic waving around when I no longer have the Apple Wireless Keyboard. I have never EVER even thought of returning an Apple product before, wish me luck. To Apple though I must say that I am disappointed that you have had many months to fix this simple issue since this keyboard came out, but have decided not to. I will try to keep you updated. Again Thank You for your kind support.

  • 13" Macbook (black), Snow Leopard, Boot Camp, Windows 7 display issue

OK I don't know where to post this. I couldn't find an appropriate forum under Boot Camp (nothing for display). Apologies if this is the wrong forum.
I am attempting to run Windows 7 using Boot Camp. Here is the behavior:
Booting Windows 7 without any monitor plugged in works fine.
Booting with an external monitor plugged in, I get the display on the external monitor. Now when I unplug the external monitor, the LCD display backlight is off and is completely dim. I had to reboot it in order for the LCD display to work again.
This is not a macbook display issue. But it has to do something with the way Windows 7, BootCamp are compatible with a macbook. Anyone seen this or know what the fix is?
    Thanks
    Sri

I can not get my Win 7 (32) os to see my Mac 10.6 partition. Is there something I need to set or turn on to get this to work?
As for your problem, perhaps Windows is not seeing the FireWire bus?

  • Installing a driver for the Apple Keyboard in Boot camp windows

I recently installed Boot Camp, VMware and Vista on my Mac so that I could move all of my computing on to one computer (I use a few programs that aren't available for the iMac). In Windows I cannot use the number pad for input - I can only use the numbers just above the letters. This is a major inconvenience because I input numbers often. I have tried to search for the driver for the Apple Keyboard that is compatible with windows, but have been unsuccessful.
Anyone know of a fix for this?
    Thanks!

I tried putting in the Leopard disk and running setup.exe and that went through the motions of installing all of the drivers, but after I restarted the windows machine it still doesn't recognize my keyboard. This may be a system wide issue, because when I work in Windows it also tells me that I do not have a camera installed for video chat. At first I thought this was just part of the price I had to pay to have a Mac and use windows on it, but now I'm thinking that my drivers were not installed properly because I know a camera is installed internally (obviously - its a less than one year old iMac all-in-one).
Can anyone think of something that I'm not doing? I have gone into the control panel in the Windows machine and tried to update my driver, but it keeps telling me that the driver is correct (it has windows driver for a standard ps/2 keyboard).

  • Wireless issues with MacBook Pro i5 in Boot Camp Windows 7 x64

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro i5 15''. I'm usually connecting to the 802.11n 5Ghz wireless network of my Time Capsule when running OS X, which works absolutely fine. When running Windows 7 x64 in Boot Camp though, this network can't be found and I have to connect to my secondary 802.11g network of an AirPort Express. Even this network connection usually dies after a few minutes of intensive use though (copying files, playing online games; it's fine with low activity like web surfing). It still appears connected normally, but no data is being transmitted. I have to reset the wireless adapter to get it to work again. The same network works fine for any OS X device.
The Windows drivers for the Broadcom chip in this machine seem really flaky. Anybody else have these problems or maybe a solution?

Yes, sorry, the Boot Camp area would have been a better place to ask. After some more googling I found a helpful thread though, which led me to download this driver package:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?swItem= ob-80585-1&lang=en&cc=us&idx=3&mode=4&
From it I installed the driver called "Broadcom 43225 802.11b/g/n", and presto, I can finally use my 802.11n network under Windows. Hope that's helping other people that may have this problem.

  • Macbook speaker issure w/ Boot Camp and Windows XP

I've just noticed that my new C2D Macbook's left internal speaker only outputs from the high-freq. driver when running Windows XP under Boot Camp. The right speaker works fine, both low-end and top-end output are fine. Everything works fine under OS X, so it is not a hardware issue I believe. Anyone else having this issue?
I'm running 1.4 drivers, but the problem existed before then.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

  • DAS Keyboard with Boot Camp

This message is directed to a small audience most likely. I would like to use the DAS Keyboard with my iMac, utlizing Boot Camp and running WIN XP PRO in the the PC partition.
My experience about six months ago was unfavorable. Whatever I tried, I could not get the keyboard recognized when booting into the PC partition. It was GREAT in the MAC environment.
Has anyone successfully used the DAS Keyboard in a similar application? If so, please post your feedback. It could be I simply received a bad board. Thanks!

  • Use external monitor w/ Macbook running Windows in Boot Camp?

Within the Mac OS, I close the lid to my Macbook and then hit the spacebar to then use an external 20" monitor. When running Windows within Bootcamp, I shut the lid of the Macbook, but cannot get the external monitor to show an image. How can I get my external monitor to work when using Windows XP within Bootcamp, once I shut the lid to the Macbook?

    Hi,
As far as I know, while on Windows XP you have to do it "the microsoft" way! To switch displays, just press Fn + F7 until the image shows at the tv.. tell me if it worked (imho this way better than the "close the lid and touch the external mouse" trick)

  • Boot camp 3, windows 7, 13" unibody macbook and keyboard function keys....

after some screwing around (disable user access control, install tweak util to allow unsigned drivers) most features of my macbook are now working in windows 7. battery life looks abysmal as it was in vista, but i'll deal with that later.
the major glitch at this point seems to be the keyboard. the boot camp manager in the system tray has the keyboard option, which does nothing. pressing fn-f1, f2, etc does nothing except bring up help or the corresponding f-key value for windows. i manually reinstalled the apple keyboard driver, but this obviously isn't a driver issue - it's a keyboard manager issue. i notice that there is no more kbdmgr.exe in boot camp 3... at least as far as i can tell. what process is now responsible for these keyboard functions? it would be really nice to be able to eject discs, use volume, hit ctrl-alt-del, etc!!
thanks in advance to anyone who has figured this out.

to sum up: actually got 7 running, but all just to a certain extent:
Keyboard works rather well, even though the backlight cant be fully switched off in low light conditions. Low light is considered even if its still bright enough to easily read the keys labels, but thats just the same as in OSX.
The trackpad works half way, as a poorly working standard touchpad with + two finger scrolling (way too quick) + two finger right click. Tapping works, but dragging and tapping doesnt work technically (clicking a button then quickly moving the cursor is misstaken as dragging, feels inferior in recognition to other touchpads). Multitouch stuff doesnt work at all, which is a pain seeing that touchpad.
Sound quite works, but if u reboot the macbook in having the sound muted u need to reboot again with sound switched on to make the sound play through the speakers.
    CD eject seems buggy too.
Battery runs like 2,5 hours (4 hours in OS X). (Must be a driver issue, windows CAN run such a notebook for 4 hours too, just consider all those lenovo thinkpads)
Why the **** does installing Windows on a Mac feel like installing Linux on a random PC...
If anyone has solutions/hints regarding the sound or the trackpad let the world know!
Coolest thing ever would be to get synaptics drivers running with the Apple touchpad. Could be possible, since in Linux as far as i get it the macbook touchpad is driven by synaptic drivers as well. Would need some fiddling though, maybe someone manages?!

  • SSD 6gb/s that works with W7x64 Boot Camp on MacBook Pro 2011 17" ?

So far I've tried a Corsair Force Series 3 120 GB an  OCZ Vertex 3 120 GB and neither work with Boot Camp. In fact the Corsair doesn't work at all. I guess that leaves me with a limited choice but if anyone with the same setup as me has managed to a get a working Boot Camp Windows 7 SSD 6gb/s installation happening I'm all ears
    Thanks
    Kraznet

An SSD is other than Apple's with its poor performance and possible proprietary firmware, is just an SSD. OWC uses SandForce controllers and has for quite awhile, and they use "tier #1 memory"
In essence, and not knowing what Corsair missed and why, Windows should work fine.
The problems are - I don't trust the Q&A behind the new 2011s and whoever designed the SATA3 controller and connector interface.
Windows 7 SP1 should be able to boot DVD, see the drive (no need for F6) and format the entire SSD properly.
There was an issue with the first generation of Intel X25s not working also, an issue that did require firmware update from Intel (and I can't keep track if Apple offered firmware update) for those MBP owners. I never saw an issue with a Mac Pro workstation and Intel SSD as far as installing Windows, and I use Windows on its own drive, not dual boot off same drive.
Intel moved to Marvell controller this round it seems for the 310/510 series rather than SF or their own.
This review was done... under Windows, too (but not a Mac)
