Macbook battery no longer holding a charge and not charging

I've already reset the PMU and PRAM and calibrated the battery, 3 times. The battery is now on 5% and won't charge any more. It's less than a year old.
Will Apple replace this piece of crap battery or do I have to shell out $130 for a new one? And is this a common problem?

Yep, they should send you a new one for free. Same thing as dalowang, I had a 3 month old MacBook and battery wasn't working. Apple sent me a new one but now it's happening all over again. Apple said it was a problem with my computer. Off to the far away apple store tomorrow. Anyone got any suggestions before I go?

I tried to reset my iPhone (3gs) with deleting all data. When it power off and automatically again on then it is showing Apple logo only. Not restore and startup my phone. iPhone alerming low charge and I tried to charge and not charging.
    What I should do now?

Something has gone wrong. Turn your phone off, then force it into recovery mode:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new. In your case, select "new".

  • Macbook Pro alternates between charging and not charging

    Hello,
I have a 15-inch Late 2011 MBP, and the problem that I am currently having, is when I am charging my MBP from a relativly low charge, or when I am charging it as well as running a highly demanding program, the power adapter will get extremely hot to the tuch, and my computer will then alternate between charing and not chargin. When the computer is aternating between charging and not chargin, the light on the Magsafe connector will be orange (like a normal charge), then it will go out (like I unplugged the addapter from the wall), then it will turn green (like when it is fully charged/or when you first connect it to the computer before it startes chargeing), then it will go back to Orange for a few (~10-15 seconds), then it will start the cycle all over again.
Some side information that might help: This is my second charger for this computer, the cord right behind the Magsafe conector fell apart after a few months; I did however replace if with an Apple 85W power adapter (no offbrand/knockoff). Also, the grounding plug on the extension broke off a while ago, however I did use this same extension (the original that came with my computer) with the original addapter which I had absolutly no problems with (appart from falling appart after a few months).
I am considering getting a new Extension for my computer, because i beleace that the fact that there is no ground is causing static/buzzing when i use headphones, though I bleave this is not realted to my power adapter problem.
So, do you think I should just replace the entire addapter and extension? I wanted to ask here first, because I do not want to get a new addapter if it is going to do the same thing again.
              Thanks for any addvice!

First, if your computer is under Applecare, so is your charger. If it is, just take the charger and computer to the Genius Bar and they'll take care of it. If it's not, you still might want to make the trip to the Genius Bar. The eval is free, and you'll find out exactly what your problem is. Not to mention that you're in the right place to buy another one if you need to.

  • IPad keeps charging and not charging really fast when plugged in.

My 'new' iPad is at 4% battery, and having plugged it in to charge (using the Lightning connector), the battery icon at the top right keeps flashing (charging to not charging) really quickly and making the charge noise continuously. This happens when connected to all sockets in my house, so is not an issue with the mains. Is this a problem with my iPad or with the Lightning connector? Please help. This iPad is essential for work purposes and I need it up and running as soon as possible.
    Thank you.

Problem solved! It was a dodgy plug.

  • Need help with G450 battery: Stuck at 0%, claims 9x% and not charging

Okay, there have been a couple similar posts but they don't provide a definitive answer so I am going to ask again.
A few days ago, I put my computer in sleep mode with a low battery. When I woke it up, it froze and I had to force shutdown. Since then, whenever I unplug the computer, it loses power instantly, indicating that the battery is not powering it. However, my system can still tell when the battery is inside or not. When it is inside, it tells me I have "97% available (plugged in, not charging)", where the 97% slowly decreases over time (at first I had 99%).
What is the problem here? How do I solve it? The "plugged in not charging" issue seems to be fairly common, but the fact that my battery is drained and the way that I got to this point seem somewhat exceptional. If it comes down to buying a new battery, that is not a problem - I could use the extra battery life, and they're pretty cheap.
SPECS: I am using Windows 7 on a Lenovo G450 and do not appear to have Lenovo Power Management software. My AC adapter appears to work just fine.

    hi serpinium,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Based from your findings, I suspect a faulty battery.
-- it's possible that the battery circuit inside is not working to unload the charge, or one of the battery already reached its life span.
-- there's also a chip inside that handles how the battery gets charges and checks the charge level of each battery (both are controlled by a firmware) -- ti's also possible that this chip is malfunctioning.
Batteries degrade overtime due to heat and daily use. If you had this battery for more than a year then perhaps it's time to get a replacement battery.

  • X1 (1286) main battery good condition at 1% and not charging

    Hello,
I recently noticed that the main battery is no longer charging. It is now at 1% and not charging when AC plugged in (screenshots of powermanager attached). Power Mgr says it is in good condition. Since I usually have the slice battery attached on the road or AC plugged in at home, it has always been in Optmize for Health mode.
The battery gauge reset procedure was performed and hasn't helped.
I've run the battery firmware update utility and it has stated that battery firmware is up to date.
And as always the case, 1yr warranty expired  3weeks ago
I'll try updating BIOS (1.66) to latest, which I believe is 1.69, and post back if any success.
Any clues please? Thanking you in advance.

Unfortunately updating bios and power manager hasn't resolved this. The new version of power manager 6.54 dispays same battery details.
Furthermore, i am now noticing that the slice battery charges to only 80%  despite setting charge mode to fully charge. Could be experiencing this problem (x1 slice battery won't pass 80% unless internal battery is 100%) too, unfortunately no answers to that post.

  • My phone is no longer charging and not turning on.

    Good days guys,
Just need your expertise on this.
Few weeks ago, I was charging my phone iPhone 4S on my computer through USB and the metal side of the phone accidentaly hit a metal stand that has a ground in it. The phone sparked as soon as it hit the metal like a spark on a welding machine and after that, the phone completely shut down. No longer turing on and not charging when plugged. I also noticed that while I tried to charge the phone the phone gets insanely hot at the back and I can feel it on the metal side.
Is there a chance for this phone to be repaired?
Thanks for your advise in advance!

At Apple Store battery replacement is $80, or Replacement iPhone 4S is $199. Try battery replacement, if still problem, replace iPhone charging port assembly with lower mic and home button flex connector, if still problem, logic board is damaged which may be a very difficult repair.

  • Battery 0% and Not Charging

The battery in my mid 2010 13" Macbook Pro was getting low so I grbbed my 85W power adapter and plugged it in, but there was no light. I tried unplugging and reconnecting it in different directions but still nothing. I figured the power adapter was dead so I purchased a new 60W adapter and it won't charge the computer either. On both adapter the Battery Condition reads Normal and Battery is Not Charging. When plugged in with the 60W Power Source is Listed as the Power Adapter and when plugged into the 85W it is listed as running on batery. My battery is now at 0% and Not Charging. I have tried resetting the SMC but it didn't help. What should I do now?

Should have I let it to get discharged in order to fully charge it ? Somebody told me I should have let it discharged and then to fully charge, but I didn't do it, my iphone is working very well, the battery too but I'm worried if the battery lifespan is gonna get worsen soon if I didn't abide by the rules and procedures of battery charging.
I had problems on my previous iPhone 4s, it died because I didn't replaced the battery with a new one because my battery never worked well and I never knew it , the battery used to overheat my iPhone and it caused to damage my processor completely to death. Who does the replacement of the iphone processor?  I need help how to maintain with the iphone battery. And also let me know if I did something wrong that I should get worried about or not ?!?!

Apple does not fix the iPhone 4S, they replace the phone. If not covered by warranty, called an out of warranty exchange. Cost is US $199. Make an appointment at any Apple store.
Be aware, Apple does not sell iPhone parts, thus there is no legitimate source for genuine parts.

    Hello, M_Bilal
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
That you for provided such a detailed post with what you've already completed, for the issue with your battery. I will try to guide you further.
I would like to provide you further documents for troubleshooting, but you've essentially completed what I have for this issue. The only step left, would be to test the battery.
You can do this with another battery, or in another notebook. I know you mention another machine, but if you know someone who does or someone who has a compatible battery. This would test that. You could even see if a local computer shop could test it.
The reason for this, is if the battery is the problem, it's much easier and more affordable replacement. Also, you mention it being new, might have warranty.
The other possible cause to the issue you've touched on, that would be the system board. Testing the above, would just confirm if this is the problem or not. From there you could decide on what you'd like to do.
I know, there really aren't many suggestions here, but I hope this can provide you with the next step.
Let me know how things go, with the route you choose to troubleshoot.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

Did you get a charger with the iPad 3?
Could be the charger or cable. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • When I plug my ipad in to charge its just coming up with a red bar in the charge icon and not charging

When i plug in my ipad to charge its just coming up with a red bar in the recharge icon and not charging.... what does this mean and how can it be fixed... checked all cables, not broken

First make sure you are using the charger that came with the iPad and plug that into a good wall outlet. When the iPad battery is completely drained it may take some time on the charger before the iPad responds. Be patient and let the iPad remain on the charger for at least an hour then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. If the iPad restarts let it continue to charge until the battery is at 100%. If the iPad does not restart Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • Macbook shuts down, charger does not charge then charges hours or days late

    My daughter's macbook symptoms:
    - shuts down all of a sudden
    - when restarted, displays error message: date reset 2008 etc.
    - When restarted, charger may or may not charge (Magsafe LED off). It may take days before it works again
Macbook under 3 year guarantee (contract says you get a new computer if it breaks down):
    In French: www.fnac.com/guides/services/garantie-echange-neuf/default.asp?NID=0
    In English via Google: http://tinyurl.com/6ayl5re
Was sent to repair (MSS repair centre, FNAC, France) . They said they did "un reset du système" = a
    system reset .
Worked well at my home for 3 days.
Back to my daughter's: same thing happens.
Charger does not charge Magsafe LED off.
Taken to my home: charger charges magsafe red. But my daughter had moved the charger's parts tried other power sockets to no avail before Macbook repair.
Note that this macbook has a mildly loose magsafe port. Yet, moving the magsafe won't change anything while Mac is on. Loose Magsafe port has been reported to me as not an issue (some geek on a forum, and a genius at an applestore)
I suspect something wrong with motherboard. Loose magsafe port should not shut dow the machine should it ?
Back to repair centre: they say it's a "software problem" this is not covered by their 3 years guarantee. Which is plain false (look up - in French only - http://tinyurl.com/6avkvhy ) .
As I don't see which software problem that could be, I took it to the genius bar at Applestore's: Genius says bah ! not a software problem.
Says it's a motherboard failure. So he gives me a written estimate for motherboard repair. Indeed that may to help me battle with my 3-year guarantee and "FNAC" repair centre since they are not so smart.
Happy with this and having checked that the guarantee contract covers even for the alleged "sofware" problem, having an Applestore paper telling me the rub lies in the motherboard, here I am, sending FNAC a formal notice by registered mail (with a copy to my lawyer. An excellent one with the appropriate specialisation , and my other daughter, hence cheap).
But .... in the meantime, I'm using that faulty computer, and here I get another shutdown.
I was moving the computer softly to place it on a table, this pulled a little bit the charger's cable: screen goes black. Magsafe LED off.
I have to restart it, and I get the usual error message telling me the date is set earlier than 2008.
Same crash as usual. Note that my daughter says the shutdown never happened without the charger on, and shutdown did happen without movement nor strain on the cable.
But as I have my own Macbook, same as my daughter's, I perform an experiment.
    - I plug my daughter's charger cable on MY Macbook: LED stays off !
    - I plug MY Macbook 's charger cable on my daughter's Macbook: LED is on !
My impression is that there is a problem with my daughter's charger, isn't there ?
But how can a problem with the charger, its cable of the magsafe cause the Macbook 's clock to bet set back a few years ?
I have to point out that the battery is not dead, and behaves normally, so the charger suddenly stopping should not shut the computer down. I can use the computer on battery for hours and battery capacity is 86 % of theoretical.
Could a motherboard problem or some other Macbook problem cause charger dysfunction ?
This is important since while I may resort to buying a new charger if FNAC does not abide by their contract duties, if there is another problem than that of the charger, we'll be in trouble again sooner or later.
We know MSS FNAC have not been good at all (not my first untoward experience with them) and Applestore may be wrong or partially right.
Thanks for your ideas about this trouble.

I am having the exact same problem, although it only takes a few minutes for my computer to start charging again. What was the solution you found? My computer just returned from Apple today with a replaced thermal assembly, and I just had the problem repeat itself, not two hours after I picked it up from the postal service.
