Macbook becomes very hot on the bottom

I have a MacBook 13" 2.4ghz Core  2 Duo 2GB SDRAM, running Mac OS X (10.5.5) when first turned on the temparature according to Istat just after startup the CPU temp is 38 degrees c rising to 46 degrees after 10mins then after about 45 mins being on and surfing the net nothing demanding the temp is up to 88 degrees and very hot on the bottom.
I am concerned there is something wrong is this normal?
Has anyone else experienced a hot macbook?
Thank you.

Are these Celsius temperatures? If so, then do this:
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
What applications do you have running normally?

  • My Macbook is getting hot on the bottom when charging? Should I be concerned?

It seems to be getting pretty hot on the bottom while charging.  Should I take it to get checked out?

It's fairly common a MBP generates heat, especially on the bottom, where the batteries and graphics chips are located. But there's a way to find out for sure:
    1. Download the free app iStat Menus http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/25230/istat-menus. A high temperature under 145 degrees F is normal.
    2. Lower your temperature. If you do the following, you'll be able to increase the life of your investment:
    - Don't use your MBP on your lap; your lap is like a heating pad, and can adversely affect the life of your machine. Put your MBP on a table.
    - Use a notebook cooler like this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002MU1ZRS/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d2_g147_i2?pf_rd _m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0V7CVK2FG8VNGA2HVGPH&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd _p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846 . This can lower your temperature by ten to thirty degrees F. Not a necessity, but this will address your concern about temperature.

  • Heat - My IPAD, and MACBook Pro get extremely hot on the bottom.  Is that usual?

Is it customary for IPADs and MacBook Pros and Airs to get very hot on the bottom after 5 - 10 minutes being on?

  • Running Fedora core 6 the Satego P100-10U becomes very hot

    Hi all,
I run Fedora Core 6 on my Satego P100-10U Notebook. But there is a problem using
NVIDIA-Driver. After few seconds running Fedora the notebook becomes very hot.
The NVIDIA sensors show me a core temperature about 100-112 Degrees.
Is there a solution, how i can fix this?
    with best regards
    Johann.

    Hi
As you probably know the Toshiba designs and publish the own graphic drivers for the Toshiba notebooksthese graphic drivers are not the same like the original graphic drivers from graphic card manufacture like nVidia or ATI!
The Toshiba graphic drivers are modified to prevent the graphic cards from overheating!!!
Usually the notebooks dont provide any special graphic card cooling modules but only the CPU cooling module and therefore the notebook graphic card driver controls the graphic card performance.
If the temperature increases to the critical level the driver slows down the card to decreases the temperature and warmness producing.
The original Nvidia or ATI drivers dont support such feature!!!
In my opinion this is a reason why the card temperature increases to higher level!!!
Be careful, something like that could damage the graphic card!!!

  • I have a macbook with retina display and when i use it, it gets hot on the bottom is this normal?

When i use my macbook it gets hot on the bottom is this normal?

If you're talking about the "new" MacBook with retina display, it's normal (Especially when you're playing games or watching a movie) and like Stark_Hu said, it will start displaying the temperature warnings, slow the processor, and try to regain normal temperatures. I actually had that happen to me while I was playing the Sims 4 while having 3 Pages documents and 5 or so Safari pages open.
Now if you're talking about the Retina MacBook Pro, I would clean out the fan ports and everything because that doesn't seem too normal!

  • Is it normal for the casing of an iMac to become very hot?

The casing on my imac becomes very hot to the touch at the top of the casing. Also the screen is becoming hot. Any ideas on the cause please?

I suggest downloading iStat Pro or iStat Menus (easily found using your favorite search engine). Then you'll be able to see exactly what your machine is doing at any given time and the associated temperatures and fan speeds.
I have an 2.8GHz i7 27" iMac. These are the temps I see under most conditions (per iStat Pro):
    HD: 90F
    CPU: 115F
    GPU Diode: 120F
    GPU Heatsink: 117F
    Mem Controller: 103F
    Optical Drive: 85F
    Power Supply2: 115F
The hottest part of the case is the top left corner most of the time.
When my machine is really cranking (when encoding video, for example) I've seen the CPU and power supply temps get up to around 130-140F.

    Hi mac people,

Does everyone know how to change the setting for boxer and simcity 2000?
Because of this, my mac logic board is burn and change one in the warranty period because of this(BUT THE TRUE IS, I changed totally three logic board near the end of the warranty period!! make me buy a apple care which cost me to spend more hard earn money!)
Does you all have the same problem, or only me?

Use a Windows 3D gaming tower to play games, it's why they mod them with elaborate cooling.
Windows operating system versions get a decade of support on average, you can open them up and clean the dust out and you can upgrade the video card.
The Mac strikes out in all three, you only killing the expensive Mac prematurely.

Welcome to the Support Commuities. See under Supported Models here:
OS X Mountain Lion Technical Specifications
...Although your MacBook Pro is supported, it may be advisable to wait until OS X 10.8.1 or 10.8.2 in order to avoid the possibility that your Mac slows down due to bugs in 10.8.0.

    Sorry for my bad english

Take your Mac to an Apple Store or Apple certified repair provider.
Do not try to take it apart. The battery could be expanding.
Check to see if your warranty is still good here > Apple - Support - Check Your Service and Support Coverage
If you mean trade the Mac you have now for a new one at an Apple Store? No, they do not take trade ins.

  • THE MACBOOK GOT VERY HOT WHEN I WATCH VEDIO

I found that when i watch vedio or movie, the computer got very hot ,and the speed of the fans is really high. My macbook is 15-inch late 2013 with retina. i think it shouldn't happened when i watch vedio. sometimes, it also happened when i was only use safari to open the website. i dont know whats wrong with my computer

nothing is wrong with your computer.  Macs run hot when under stress (Watching movies, gaming etc).  When I watch a movie on my MacBook Pro, the temps get as high as 86°-94°c.

  • When I was watching the video, the computer becomes very hot, may I ask how you can solve

When I was watching the video, the computer becomes very hot, may I ask how you cansolve

Usually if you have some kind of hardware failure there is some beeping during POST or most motherboards now have LED indicators to produce and error message based on the type of failure
So if its bad memory, not place properly, mismatched, processor not inserted properly, mismatched voltage or voltage connector not present etc it beeps or generates the error id.
Power supplies can be tested for failure. There are some walk throughs for testing just them with a switch, paperclip or a jumper (I'd suggest not doing this if you are not familiar with the dangers of electricity).
Memory can be tested with memory diagnostics programs like Memtest+
Processors can overheat if the proper precautions have not been taken usually you will get a POST beep or error code for that.
If the motherboard has no response then do the basics first:
Check power connectors and power supply. Once you determine that is not the case move on to other items like graphics cards in all the way or memory.

  • Mac Book becomes very hot within munutes (67 C- 72 C)

I recently got a new macbook. It looks cool and all but got a big problem.
The notebook becomes very hot within minutes of usage.
I have downloaded the cpu temperature measurement utility and
    got these readings.
    a) 15 minutes of usage (67 Degree Centigrade, hot enought to
    melt wax)
    b) 30 minutes of usage (72 Degree centigrade)
After googling this topic, I see that many of the users of macbook are facing the same problem. Does apple intend to do
    anything about this problem.
I have used sony vaio and dell in the past.
    Never noticed any
    heating problems with them.

That's about the range I see for normal usage with a browser, mail, and itunes open. You must take into consideration the current room temperature. I've seen screenshots of MacBooks running up to 5 apps with temp is the 50s while others - like you and me - have temperatures in the high 60s low 70s.

    Hi Limfromsi,
It is normal to an extent for the iPhone to get warm during charging. If your iPhone is currently in a case, you may want to try charging it without one and see if the issue occurs, as the design of the iPhone uses the exterior of the device as a cooling surface. For more information about iPhones and temperature, you may find the following article helpful:

If you continue to have issues with your iPhone in the default config (no case, using the included original cable and power adapter), you may want to have your phone evaluated for service. The following page may be of use:

  • IPhone break on backside; becomes very hot!

    Hello,
I had a terrible unlucky accident with my bike 4-5 days ago, and since then, there is a deep scratch on the backside of my iPhone 3GS.
I just noticed that after I just checked if everything was allright, my iPhone become very hot and I had to turn it off because I was afraid that it could explode or something.
I restored my iPhone, disabled all services and just tried to install some Apps but then again it became very hot, so i turned it off.
I don't know what to do. Should I send it to Apple? Or, how can I ask if I get a replacement for my iPhone?
I tried to use the Online Support, but there is no point where it says that iPhone gets hot or something.
I'm from germany, so sorry for my english! Tried my best
Maybe anyone knows what to do, and if I could get help by Apple?
    Thanks and all the best!
