Macbook Black issue- Help!

I posted here awhile ago but no one responded to me so I decided to post a new thread instead of responding to an existing similar topic. I do not have apple care, sadly.
I have a few issues with my laptop. I've always taken care of it and never take its outside my home.
This happened a few weeks ago. The night before I played a game and everything was working in order. The next morning, I noticed my computer wasn't charging and the adapter with green light is a bit dimmed and it wouldn't charge and would only work when the adapter is plugged in. So I looked online about this and it seemed like maybe my battery is bad. I bought a new one on ebay, now it is working but it won't charge or show that is charging. It says 74% when I first replaced the batt and its not showing the plug icon. Anyone know what my problem is?
Second issue, I have that I noticed at the same time was my audio is muted. Would only work is I plug in headphone on the other hole next to the headphone. And the headphone jack is lit red.
I tried the q-tip, paper clips and such I've read about and it is not working.
Someone help me. Also if you live in San Francisco area. Can you recommend a repair place I could go to because I know at the apple store it would be expensive.

can anyone help me here?

  • Macbook Startup Issue - Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 2006 mac book had a start up issue a couple of years back, I'd boot her up to be greeted with a screen displaying a start up failed message in three different languages on a grey screen. http://www.minneapolispcrepair.com/images/mac%20error%20screen.jpg
Looking into the issue I noticed this model of Macbooks had issues with their hard drives and they could be replaced under warranty. Brilliant, booked myself into see a Genius and ha presto a few weeks later my hard drive had been replaced. However a couple of weeks after the replacement the issue started happening again but after a few attempts the Macbook would fire up so it wasn't really an issue just a pain in the butt!! Now 18 months down the line its becoming a real issue again, it must take 7 or 8 attempts to fire the blasted thing up, 25 is my highest so how.
My question is, what could be causing this start up issue, could it be the hard drive again???? as replacing the hard drive previously didn't really solve the issue in the first place?? Would apple replace this hard drive again????
The MB is a late 2006 model with Dual Core run Snow Leopard
    Hope someone can help :o(
    Thanks

This looks like a kernel panic. Try to startup the mac in safe mode (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455) and observe for a few startups whether the problem occurs again or not.
If this solves the problem then you may have a problem with your software installation. Consider reinstalling os x or take a look at your system log file and search for kernel panics (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742).
If the problem persists you may have an issue with your hardware. I would recommend to take it to an Apple Genius to have the system checked (free of charge afaik).

  • Macbook permission issues-Help please asap...

On my macbook there are no issues with administrator but with a normal user account there are. It started a couple of days ago and since I have tried all sorts of stuff but nothing works.
Basically I cannot save an image when I click on the option 'save image as...' I can only use the option 'save to downloads' when I try 'save image as..' this error comes up...
"The document “kate0802_302x322.jpg” could not be exported as “kate0802_302x322”. You don’t have permission. To view or change permissions, select the item in the Finder and choose File > Get Info."
Also I cannot take any screenshots and this error somes up...
"Your screen shot can’t be saved. You don’t have permission to save files in the location where screen shots are stored."
Furthermore I cannot save documents this error appears...
"The document “Untitled” could not be exported as “work”. The file “/Users/Saira/Desktop/work.doc” couldn’t be found."
I have checked all the "get info.." sections and I have permission to read and write I also tried restarting the macbook as well as strating it up in safe mode but it still doesn't change the same errors appear. However this problem is only on one user and not on the administrator account or any other general users. So now I literally cannot do anything and I've tried and checked verything I know. Can anyone help me solve this annoying problem?

  • Macbook keyboard issues help please.

I have a issue with my macbook keyboard. As sometimes it will miss out on the first letter that i type and i hate it doing that. I have applied the update that was suppose to fix this problem but it still does this occasionally.
Do any of you have suggestions, do i have uninstall the keyboard update then re-apply it again if so how do you do it.
I just got this machine back from being repaired and i do not want to take it back to be repaired. It took them weeks to fix it and they lost the macbook, then found it a few days later and they are a nightmare, they only started to fix the problem 2 weeks after i brought it in and that was only because i kept calling them.
    Thanks,

I have already installed the keyboard update and it has fixed most of the issues but i still get the first button press not always being recognized.

  • Help needed! Connection to adapt a new LED 24" display to a MacBook black

    Help !!
I just bought a new 24" LED diplay to connect it to my MacBook Black 13" that I bought 2 years ago. The dvi port is not the same than the LED display connectic !!!
Does someone knows wher I can find the adapter ??
Thank you sooo much for your help

    Thank you Niel,
I might sound stupid, but I am not a computer genius... far away from that.
My computer has a small female plug to conect the video wire ( was perfectly compatible with my previous apple display) and the new LED display has a very small male cable to connect to the computer.
How is the box gonna make the connection between those 2 ??

  • 13" Macbook (black), Snow Leopard, Boot Camp, Windows 7 display issue

OK I don't know where to post this. I couldn't find an appropriate forum under Boot Camp (nothing for display). Apologies if this is the wrong forum.
I am attempting to run Windows 7 using Boot Camp. Here is the behavior:
Booting Windows 7 without any monitor plugged in works fine.
Booting with an external monitor plugged in, I get the display on the external monitor. Now when I unplug the external monitor, the LCD display backlight is off and is completely dim. I had to reboot it in order for the LCD display to work again.
This is not a macbook display issue. But it has to do something with the way Windows 7, BootCamp are compatible with a macbook. Anyone seen this or know what the fix is?
    Thanks
    Sri

I can not get my Win 7 (32) os to see my Mac 10.6 partition. Is there something I need to set or turn on to get this to work?
As for your problem, perhaps Windows is not seeing the FireWire bus?

  • Mini DVI to DVI adapter not working for MacBook BlackRAM upgrade for MacBook black (Early / Mid 2008 model - MB404LL/A)

    Hello.
I have recently purchased an external display monitor (LG D2342P LED) and I am trying to connect my MacBook black - MB404LL/A (Mac OS X 10.6.8, Core2Duo 2.4 GHz) to the LG LED monitor using mini DVI to DVI adapter. The dispay is getting detected by the macbook in the display preferences but the screen shows "No video input" ( as a blank-black that bahaves as no input coming to the Monitor).
Please help, what should I do to connect to the monitor ?  Is there any setting that I am missing that needs to be preconfigured or is this an issue with software update of 10.6.8 ?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply, shldr2thewheel. I ll go ahead with the RAM specification you have mentioned.
Can you please suggest about the Hard Drive, what should be the specification I should be looking for compatibility of my MacBook black ?

  • Question about Snow Leopard and my Macbook Black

I have a macbook black and run it with 4gb of ram right now--the new info for snow leopard says that the OS will support 8gb+ ... is there a hardware issue on a late 2007 macbook black that's preventing this or will I be able to drop 8gb of ram in this guy once i upgrade the os?

Yes, considering that Snow Leopard (10.6.x) will theoretically support up to 16TB of RAM (Even though that is not possible right now on a consumer machine) it does not mean your hardware will support it. If you have only hardware capable of utilizing 4 GB of RAM, then no matter what the OS's max is, if the RAM slots and the rest of the hardware can not address or otherwise interact with the RAM, it will not be supported, and considering you do not have a MacBook Pro, iMac, or Mac Pro, you will not be able to address this amount of RAM, and could cause problems. If you need 8 GB of RAM, then look into this computer for notebooks:
    13": http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MB991LL/A?mco=NjcxMTQ5Mg
    15": http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MC118LL/A?mco=NjcxMTU2OQ
    17": http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MC226LL/A?mco=NjcxMTU1OQ
or for desktops: iMacs: 20": http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MB417LL/A?mco=NDE4Mzg3Ng
    24": http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MB420LL/A?mco=NDE4Mzg5OQ
    For Mac Pros: Quad-Core: http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MB871LL/A?mco=NDE4NDIwNA
    and for 8-Core: http://store.apple.com/us/configure/MB535LL/A?mco=NDE4NDIyMQ
The 8-core machine can come with up to 32 GB, but for 32 GB of RAM from Apple, it is $6100 extra from the original 6GB that comes standard. For the best deal for the amount of power you get for how much you pay would be the Mac Pro, and for notebooks it would be the MacBook Pro, and if you are doing the things that soak up RAM like video editing, you would want a 15" or 17" MacBook Pro or a 24" iMac, because the screen size would be best for displaying your RAM-soaking applications. If you need tons of power (talking 3.2+ Gigaflops a second) you would want to get a Mac Pro, with a 24" or 30" external display screen. You could also get a 3rd party screen for less, but if you want all of the features of the Apple Display, you should go for this option. Also, the Mac Pro can support more that 1 24" cinema display if configured correctly, which can be combined to make a really wide screen, perfect for the ultimate multitasker. Hope that was of help.

  • My macbook black no read dvd/ cd

hi, my macbook black no read any movie dvd blank dvd or cd my model of superdrive is MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857
    anyone with this problem?

    rhonddapaul,
I have a new macbook and it cannot read some cds (microsoft windows xp and office). Apple technical support said they are unaware of any other cases like mine. They referred me to Microsoft. Microsoft support was familiar with the issue with macbooks with the MATSHITADVD-R UJ-857 optical drive. I also took the macbook and ms office to a retail Apple store to see if their technician could help. He found the same issue. We tried two other ms office disks - one worked and another was also not readable in the macbook though it was readable in his macbook pro. I talked to tech support on the phone again and they offered no solutions. We tried resetting the disk and made sure the firmware is all up to date.
Thankfully I was able to find a workaround (I burned copies of these disks on a pc and the copies worked), but am concerned that this might happen with future disks. There seems to some compatibility with this particular optical drive and some cds.
You mentioned others were having this issue. Do you know of a specific solution that Apple has provided for any of them?

  • Can't remove battery on Macbook Black

    Hey.
Today I decided it was time to clean my MacBook Black [refurbished], so I powered it down and went to take out the battery. I used a coin to unlock the battery, which didn't seem to pop up. For the life of me, I can't prise the battery out. I don't want to force the thing out, as it's my only battery and I need the laptop for school work.
So yeah, help would be appreciated. The only thing I can think of which may have caused the problem is the fact that the battery was originally very loose, and I asked a guy at my school [who's noramlly very trustworthy and good with Macs] to secure it inside the battery holder and then lock it.

hi there and welcome to apple discussions!
i'd take it back to your tech at school and ask him. i know your probably on vacation, but sometimes staff is there in the summer (at least thats the case in my town )
if you can't get to the tech, take it to an Apple store. if the tech at your school is a Authorized Service Provider, they can take out the battery under warranty. if the person wasn't an ASP, then your warranty is void and you'll have to pay for the labor and parts.
i've always cleaned my MacBook without taking out the battery, and its been fine. what kind of cleaning would you do on a black MacBook anyway?
    hope that helps!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Pictures would help. A good way to do this is to post them to a free photo sharing site like Flickr and then post a link.
Also, you are in the original MBP section, and I think you need to post your question in the newer MBP section:

  • Mountain Lion on MacBook Black

Hi, i want to install mountain lion on my macbook black and i don't know if it is compatible, can you help with this ?

No, the last Black MacBook was the Early 2008 model 4,1.
The Early 2006 model 1,1 Core Duo can only run a maximum of 10.6 Snow Leopard.
The models Late 2006 Core 2 Duos 2,1 through Early 2008 4,1 can only run a maximum of 10.7 Lion.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1 can run 10.8 Mountain Lion.
It's mainly the video card. The Models 2,1 through 4,1 have video cards with non-upgradeable 32bit drivers. The model 5,1 Late 2008 and newer have at least the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 64bit drivers. Mountain Lion requires 64bit native drivers. Mountain Lion no longer supports Intel's GMA 950 or GMA X3100 graphics processors.
While Lion used some 32 bit and a lot of 64 bit code, Mountain Lion is pure 64 bit, which excludes more systems than Lion did. It's not something you can add memory to, for example, as it involves the base architecture.

  • Airport issues - help needed.

This problem began a few weeks ago. Occasionally (roughly 1 in 5 or 6 times) when I open my MacBook and it spins back up, the Airport card isn't working. I first noticed I wasn't able to get a wireless connection, then found I couldn't get Airport to turn back on. Until tonight, restarting the computer has resolved the issue. Tonight it did not, and after restarting I was getting a "No Airport card" message when I'd attempt to turn on Airport. I then powered down completely, powered back up, and it recognized the card.
This seems to be a gradually deteriorating issue, and I'd rather not spend the money to have a certified repair shop to do something I can do myself. My assumption is the Airport card is dying, but I don't want to assume that and spend money on a new card if there's a decent chance the issue is something else.
Any experience or input? Any opinions about the best place to buy a card for my model Macbook (info below).
    Thanks in advance.
