Macbook black screen, white light, no chime and more problems
When I completely shut down my Macbook (regular starting 2009) and turn it back on I see the white light only and black screen. Nothing works! this has happened two times and I pressed the power button for 10 seconds to do a PMC reset and it actually turned on and past this week I've been pressing SHIFT+PWR button to turn on my Macbook.
Also, when my macbook wakes up from sleep it takes a while to get back up and sometimes the sound dosen't work although I see the devices in the Audio MIDI.
Does this mean my logic board is going bad or is it a NVRAM problem? I tried resetting the NVRAM but it didn't work!
Have you tried running the Apple hardware test? Run the extended test, which can take over an hour.

I was using my MacBook Pro Mid-2010 and then the screen went blank, I did a hard restart and went to restart again and it won't startup. The white light comes on and then the computer kinda "clicks" off!

I updated my phone overnight and now I can't get it to come on. I've tried everything, I have a black screen, white apple and a mine below that looks like it's trying to load but it has stopped. HELP!
You're not alone. I am having similar problems with my Ipod 5th gen 30gb.
When I connect it to my laptop (Vista - basic) it is not recognised by itunes. Itunes simply locks up.
So far I have tried the following to no avail:
Checked my pc's device manager - it recognises the device and says it is functioning properly.
Checked the drivers to make sure they are upt to date.
Uninstalled & reinstalled a previous version of itunes (as it worked fine before the latest release).
Reinstalled the latest itunes.
Reset the ipod.
Put the ipod into disk mode and reconnected to itunes.
Have tried to use the windows tool to scan and fix any bad sectors but it fails to complete a scan without locking that up as well.
Placed into disk mode when fully charged and then allowed the battery to drain completely. Then reconnected ipod (in disk mode)and it still is not recognised and locks up itunes.
At this point I dont really want to part with another $300 odd dollars for a new one. -
My Mac pro is in off mode permanently: black screen, no light (not even the cable), not sound...just dead! I bought it 3 months ago and this is disappointing. Any advice?

Otherwise as the other folks indicated, its time for diagnostics / service. Make an appointment with a Mac Genius at an Apple store, contact AppleCare via phone, or contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider for assistance. -
It has been on this black screen with the apple logo and some small white writing at the top of the screen for many hours. I've tried rebooting it and connecting to iTunes but nothing has worked.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!It likely means there was still water inside it and something has now shorted out and permanently damaged one or more components. THE very worst thing you can do with wet electronics is energize them - even a small drop of water inside on any of the circuitry or electrical contacts can cause catastrophic damage.
Take it to Apple for a free evaluation, but most likely you will need to replace it. For the out of warranty fee ($269.00 USD) you will get a refurbished replacement (like new, with a factory new screen and battery). An out of warranty replacement will also re-instate your remaining warranty, or 90 days warranty, whichever is longer. -
my iphone got wet and after letting it dry all i get is the black screen with the grey apple and a bunch of white writting, what do I do to fix it?
You can try and put it in a bag of uncooked rice for 5 days or so, but don't get your hopes up. If that doesn't work, you get an out of warranty replacement or buy a new phone.

Black screen white cursor hell
The computer is a Sony Viao VGC-R210G running Windows XP Media with 4 GB RAM and an NVIDIA G8500 with a Matrox card.
On running Premiere Pro CS4, the program will appear to be running normally, then crashes and provides an error window. The OS then reboots itself. The Windows splash screen comes up and everything appears to be ready to boot, but all that is displayed is a black screen with a white moveable cursor. There is no way to get back to normal Windows operation after this, short of reloading the OS.
Believe me, I've tried.
This has happened twice -- huge pain in the *** reloading my drives.
Pardon me for being such a n00b, but if one is uploading an Adobe update of a Creative Suite, is it advisable to delete the original Adobe suite apps after the upgrade? It's just an intuitive guess, but I feel as though the two versions of Premiere are not playing nicely together. No. The last update of the Matrox drivers was 2007 when I got the card. Perhaps I should scan the forums for Matrox horror stories to see if these might apply.
I tend to doubt it though. On the last upload, Matrox wouldn't allow me to load the drivers until I had loaded Premiere Pro. I never got around to it before the black screen brought everything to a screeching halt.
On my Google quest to avoid reloading my drive, I found this black screen white cursor problem seems to be common, but the causes and solutions seem to be all different. Microsoft doesn't have any technical articles on it at all. The common element in my case was, unambiguously, use of Premiere Pro CS4. -
iPad 2 has a black screen which lights up to a grey black screen when I press the power or home button but I dont see the apple logo. The battery is fully charged and when I plug it in to my computer, I can use iTunes to do everythng except backup the iPad since its passcode locked. Please help me resolve this problem. Yup! I've been there! You just have to double-tap the screen with three fingers and the zoom should go back. You have to turn off the feature in Settings>Accessibility>Zoom>and turn the switch off so this won't happen again when you double-triple tap.

My IMac is frozen with the screen white ,apple logo appears and a spinning wheel under it. A long empty rectangle empty appears under the wheel and is empty.
Your iMac is trying to go into safe. This usually happens when it has detected an issue with the OS or file system.

Just upgraded my iPad to IOS5 and when the download was completed, a window said that there was an error and it could not restore. Now I have a black screen with the Apple logo and the circle lines. None of the buttons respond. Help, please!!
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. Maybe this will let the iPad reboot and then you may need to restore again but see if this helps to start the iPad first.

I have a similar problem! Windows 7 shutdown unexpectedly and since that I can not reboot in windows anymore only with safe mode where everything is a mess.
Also when it's trying to reboot in windows a blue window appears,says something about drivers and it is counting something (79.78...till100)but I m not able to read it cause it disappears immidiately and then black screen and then it turns to reboot in mac which works fine.

My iPhone 3GS on iOS 5.1 will randomly stop what I'm doing show a black screen then the spinning icon and then it shows my lockscreen. It takes about a minute to do this and it does it about 30 times a day. How do I fix this? It is EXTREMELY ANNOYING!
No, sounds like when you dropped it an cracked the screen it may have also damaged the logic board or the repair person damaged a cable.
