Macbook Boot Camp Assistance

Basically I'm getting the message "The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved". I had this message before, but I backed up all my data using time machine, erased the hard drive, did a clean reinstall of OSX first then after that upgraded to Snow Leopard and then finally used Migration Assistant to put all my files back onto my computer. How come now boot camp is still saying I can't partition the drive? I'm really confused, any help would be of great assistance on how to do it? I just want to have Vista on my computer again so I can play Oblivion! Thanks

when you erased the hard drive, did you erase just the mac partition or the whole disc?
i did clean re-install of mac and bootcamp/windows also a few times recently and was having some problems.
first you have to go into bootcamp assistant (in mac os), REMOVE the bootcamp partition so your disc is one partition...THEN erase and format the mac HD and do a re-install of mac OS (erase and format the disc first, otherwise it will do an install over what it sees on the disc, if there's already the OS there it's not a "clean" install...)
THEN you should have a fully erased disc where you can go back into bootcamp assistant and start all over again.

I'm trying to install Boot Camp, so I put in my Windows XP installation disk, which the computer recognizes because it shows up on the desktop, but when I run the Boot Camp Assistant, it says "The installer disk could not be found. That the disk is recognized in Leopard does not mean it's the right disk.
The Windows disk must be XP w/SP2 embedded, or Vista.
It must also be a full install disk, not an update or restore disk, and not a ISO-image disk.

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my MacBook with Boot Camp Assistant

I'm trying to use Boot Camp assistant to install Windows 7. I have a disk, I've done everything right, but for some reason, whenever I click Install on the final Boot Camp prompt, it only gets as far as the Windows is loading files... part after it reboots to the Windows hard drive. I've tried everything, but it still won't work. Im using a 13" MacBook Pro with Retina. It has the latest software version (OS X 10.9.1) and I have a USB with Windows Support Software. The disk is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Trying to install Windows 8.1 from an ISO, but boot camp assistant doesn't seem to recognize

I have a 2011 Macbook pro, 15", 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM. I'm wanting to install windows 8.1 using boot camp assistant, and downloaded windows 8.1 from dreamspark (Microsoft store for students). I have downloaded all of the windows support software onto a USB, and there is a folder sitting on my desktop containing the .ISO for windows 8.1. However, when i try to run boot camp assistant, it says that the installer disc could not be found, and does not give me an option to install from a selectable .ISO. Can anyone help me with this? Is it something obvious I'm missing? Thanks!

For Macs with built-in Optical drives, you will need to burn the ISO to Optical media and use the Optical drive.

I'm trying to install Windows XP on my Leopard 10.5.8 using Boot Camp Assistant but when it restarts it says I should insert a bootable disk even though I didn't remove the installer from the drive. What should I do?

More info: I'm using an external CD drive because the built-in one doesn't work for some reason.
Also I went back and deleted the partition (also using Boot Camp Assistant) and just gave up on installing XP, but now every time I turn on my macbook I have to press the Option key to mount the Mac HD. If I don't, it returns to the black screen that says I have to insert the bootable disk and press any key. How do I stop this problem? I've already verified the disk and permissions, plus repaired it. It's still the same.

Go into your system preferences and click the startup disk icon then select your Mac HD.

Boot Camp Assistant "Windows 7 Installer disc could not be found"

I'm attempting to Boot Camp a partition on my MacBook Pro Retina (13", early 2013) and it's not working. I purchased a Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit DVD and i'm accessing it through the optical drive on my desktop iMac. So far so good; MBP shows the disc on its desktop through remote disc sharing. The USB drive with downloaded Windows drivers is in place.
However, Boot Camp Assistant won't recognize the Windows 7 DVD, even though it's right on the desktop (remotely). There is a dialog box and it says "Installer disc could not be found .. wait a few seconds"
And that's it. Nothing further happens.
Help! I hate Windows! Why am I doing this??

So let me get this straight. I can either use this DVD directly on a superdrive plugged in to MBP, or else burn a copy to the USB stick.
MBP will not install from an external SuperDrive due to Windows installer limitations, because it has no driver for the SuperDrive.
How exactly do I do the latter since my own DVD reader right now is by remote disc on my iMac?
Create an ISO using the following procedure on the iMac and then copy it over the network to the MBP or create an ISO by attaching the SuperDrive to the MBP. Use Bootcamp Assistant to point to this ISO when creating the USB for installation.

To burn a disc, you need an optical drive in your computer or connected directly to your computer. You can’t burn a disc using a remote optical drive.
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in Launchpad.
Insert the CD or DVD disc in the optical drive, and select it in the list at the left.
Choose File > New > “Disk Image from [disc name].”
Type a name for the disk image.
Choose an option from the Image Format pop-up menu.
Choose “compressed” to create a smaller disk image.
Choose “read-only” to create a disk image that’s quicker to create and open.
Click Save.
After Disk Utility creates the disk image, eject the original CD or DVD.
Select the disk image in the list at the left, and choose Images > Burn.
When the Burn Disc dialog appears, insert a blank CD or DVD, and then click Burn.
You can continue using the disk image to create as many duplicate discs as you need.

Boot camp assistant no longer registers my windows partition.

I recently decided to wipe my macbook pro (aluminum) and reinstall OS X on it. Using my leopard install disk, I erased the drive. I had a windows partition running at the time, but I decided no to erase that as well. Unfortunately it seems as thought the disk couldn't install snow leopard from scratch, so I installed tiger (my leopard disk wasn't working) and upgraded from there. This worked, and now I've got snow leopard up and running, the only issue is that boot camp assistant doesn't register my hard drive as being partitioned, so I cant remove or add partitions, though I can still boot into XP.
I want to remove and resize the partition, should I use disk utility to erase it? Or is there an alternate solution?

Well, I just noticed the restore button at the bottom corner of boot camp assistant. Seems to have solved the problem XD.

Boot Camp Assistant wont recognize Windows 7 mounted on SD card

Hello all, first post! So here goes:
I have mounted my Windows 7 to an SD card (the largest media device I have available), but Boot Camp Assistant will not recognize the SD card as a valid way to continue the process. Is this something that simply is undoable or am I missing something here?
If Boot Camp Assistant is not gonna work, can I make a new partition then start my macbook in that partition then install on there with said SD card?

It is a regular .iso mounted to a SD card, not a USB version of the installer. I did the basic mounting of the .iso onto the SD card via terminal with "sudo dd bs=4m if=imagename.extension of=/dev/disk#". But, i literally just got off the phone with apple care and they helped me this time around without a care program, their answer is: Nope, only USB or Disc copies will be recognized with Boot Camp Assistant

im using a macbook pro 13-inch late 2011 with mac os x 10.7.2 which has bootcamp 4.i want to install 64-bit windows 8 on my mac.i found out you need boot camp 5 to install it.can i install windows 8 on bootcamp 4 and then update to boot camp 5 when running windows?or do i have to update to bootcamp 5 beforehand?if so,how do i do that?

Boot Camp Assistant Won't Launch

I have not been able to get Boot Camp Assistant to launch. I double click on it but nothing happens. No error messages. Nothing.
Background: I just replaced the hard drive in my MacBook Pro Core Duo 2.4 GHz. Using the Restore Option of Disk Utility I copied a backup I had made of the full original Mac OS X partition from my old internal drive (I also had a Boot Camp Windows partition but that's another matter I think) to an external USB drive. Booting and operation from the new hard drive once restored seemed fine, but when I tried to launch Boot Camp Assistant to create a partition for Windows nothing happened. I restarted off my external USB backup drive and tried to launch Boot Camp Assistant from that drive, still nothing.
I then performed an Archive & Install of Tiger (I'd been running Leopard 10.5.8) and Boot Camp Assistant still wouldn't start. I'm currently updating Tiger to Leopard on my MacBook Pro but I'm not hopeful Boot Camp Assistant will launch after the update. Why would it? It didn't launch under Leopard after I restored it to the new hard drive. It wouldn't launch in Leopard when I started off my external drive. It wouldn't launch under Tiger after an Archive and Install. Obviously I've used Boot Camp Assistant before to create the Windows partition on my old drive so it would seem my firmware is current enough. I'm not getting any error messages to the contrary. I have no idea why Boot Camp Assistant will not launch.
I'm wondering if there may be something in one of the Previous Systems folders that is preventing Boot Camp Assistant from launching. The old hard drive was pretty messed up with hundreds of "Missing Folders" in the Rescued Items folder which I think was created by Disk Warrior.

Also, I'm wondering if there is any way to go back and use a Previous System. You see, I'm going to have to reinstall a lot of software if I can't do that. I'd rather avoid that hassle. Thanks again.

In addendum to my original post: If I open the Boot Camp Assistant package contents and drill down to the BootCamp Executable file and double click that, Terminal opens with the following message:

I thought apple is user friendly. That is why I bought it. I do not have a use to download my boot camp assistant for a compatible to microsoft words, excel, powerpoint. They told me I have iWork's for all of this products but mine is not working.

I bought an apple product which is MacBook Air about 7 mths. ago . Anyway I would like to download a compatible words, excel, powerpoint. they told me that I do not need it since IWORKS is all I needed. I tried my keynote , numbers does not worked. Somebody emailed me sending me this mumbo jumbo for it to work. Well, if I was a computer wiz, I probably will not be asking for help.
I followed the tutorials for windows for mac, followed every instructions, hold and behold another problem. I have to have a usb, when I bought this at Best Buy, I asked them what do I need , they said that I do not need anything else because it is all in there. So to make a long story short. I am just so frustrated .
How can I download the windows for mac, I know I have to start in utilities , boot camp assistant, then the usb problem. Please I need help, it is much needed for my job. Ipages does not saved anything, I mean nothing it just disappeared , and you do not have any idea how much I have the long hrs. I have put in.

You can buy Microsoft Office for Mac, it includes Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Or you can download a free copy of LibreOffice which contains substitutes (good ones) for the Microsoft Office programs.
Do not even think of using Boot Camp unless you have a complete and current TM backup or a clone to restore if it goes wrong. You will also need to buy Windows and Microsoft Office for it. And you MUST read the directions very carefully.

Is it possible to bypass the number of partitions limitation (no more than 2) when trying to boot into windows by not using boot camp assistant, and instead just partitioning the drive manually?

I can't find a specific answer to this question.
I did have a functioning Windows 8 installation on my MacBook Pro previously. I tried to make a third exFAT partition so as to have a drive mutually readable/writable to both operating systems. This made it so I could no longer boot into my Windows installation.
I know I'll need the boot camp drivers installed on the Windows installation after the fact, but would manually creating a partition and installing the OS without Boot Camp Assistant work? And would I be able to boot from it while having a total of 3 partitions?

That's the spirit!
Just be sure to have your OS X junk safe in a tested backup, in case the whole thing craps out and you end up having to do a low-level partition and erase of the entire drive.
And like I said, the problem is not OS X. I've set up mine at least once with 4 partitions holding as many flavors of OS X as can run on the hardware, all perfectly bootable on demand.

I had Boot Camp set up and working on my Macbook for almost a year but had to remove it and start again, so I can't understand why all of a sudden it can't seem to load any Windows DVD's? I even tried my Windows 7 Home Premium disc but again, the same message keeps popping up that I need to insert my installation disc and wait a few seconds for it to be recognised

Boot Camp Assistant 4.0 vs 4.0.1

The version of Boot Camp Assistant that came with OX X Lion that I downloaded to a Mid 2010 Mac mini is 4.0. The version that came with a new Mid 2011MacBook Air is 4.0.1. The main difference is that 4.0.1 has the option to create a Windows 7 install disk. Is this difference "by design"? Is version 4.0.1 only available on new hardware such as the Mid 2011 MacBook Air?

Another follow-up:
A Windows 7 installation image on either a USB stick or an SD card will boot on a Mid 2011 MacBook Air.
The same image won't boot on a Mid 2010 Mac mini; however an OS X Lion installation image on either media will boot on either computer.
In all cases the media is formatted FAT32 for a Windows 7 install (using DISKPART on Windows), and HFS Journaled for an OS X Lion install (using Disk Utility on OS X).
I'd like to understand why, and if it's possible to install Windows 7 from a USB stick or an SD card on a Mid 2010 Mac mini.

Boot camp assistant: Start up option

Hi,
I am using MacBook Pro and on OS X Lion.
I use boot camp assistant to install windows 7 on my computer.
The strange thing is once everything is running. I would like to set a default start up option, eg: by default always boot mac.
Unless, i need to boot in windows, i can press OPTION button to select which OS to boot.
Without setting the default start up option, everything just works fine.
Once i have setup the default start up option, it only boot in Mac and when i press OPTION and select to boot in windows, it says the partition doesn't exist.
Then, i boot into Mac, boot camp assistant is able to detect there is a windows partition there.
Could i summarize that something is wrong with the start up mapping? It can detects windows, but when i click on it, it can't find it.

Just realised the boot drive is connected to a motherboard ODD port which Windows can't see.
