Macbook cant screen video anymore without crashing computer

i have a macbook that used to stream videos no problem, it will still start to stream them then get choppy, then crash whole computer with a transparent warning message. i assumed it was because it was an old computer (2007), but thought it couldnt hurt to ask for some other solutions.. maybe ways to clear cashes? i dont know has anyone else even experienced this? thank you for you time

It sounds like you're having kernel panics. It sounds like it might be hardware related. Run the Apple Hardware Test and see if it shows anything, run it in extended mode two or three times. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509

Storing files (digital video, photos) without a computer

Is there an adapter out there that will let me use my iPod to store video and stills shot by a digital camera? They don't have to play back; I just want to store on them on the iPod HD until I can offload them later.

It works like a dream. Be sure to check the camera compatibility list, though my Canon isn't listed (ixus 700) it does work without problems.

When the printer is plugged in to the AirPort Base Station Express/Extreme, does the device recognize the printer? If so, is it getting an IP address that is on the same IP range as your's? Probably a 10.xxx.xxx.xxx, so check for that as well.
If both devices are operating properly and connected (as well as seen) then try manually re-adding that device as Taylor recommended. You might also want to reinstall the printer drivers off of the manufacturer's website as well.

Cant Burn Videos anymore

OK Hello I have been buying the new videos from itunes
Before they sold seperrately ( wenh were sold Along with albums )
they could Be burned to CD and when In a cd player would still play Music only
but now that Ive bought them individaully I cant burn them in such a way
this is not consistant with what HAS been done and Obviously its not

I just purchased about 8 Music Videos using the new iTunes 6.0 application, and was wondering if these files can be played back on my PSP?
I noticed that the file format has a .m4v format and Sony's PSP plays .mp4 files....so can the iTunes Videos be converted to play on this sort of device?
I don't always have my laptop around, and simply would like to whip out my PSP for games...and when I get tired of that...be able to listen to and watch Music Videos.
What's up with all this proprietary crap...there should be some sort of standardization...and allow user who purchase (really tiny videos) to be able to play them back on (really tiny devices)

I have been unable to update firmware on this computer for about a year now. Im not sure why.
I am running a bootleg copy of Windows XP on this computer, I would not like to spend $149 to get Windows 7 if possible.

Why don't you take your 'old' MBP into your local Apple Store and have them check out everything that's wrong with it - and I mean everything? Then, when you get an estimate about how much it would cost to get the machine completely repaired, ask about the Apple flat-rate repair pricing?
It's worth a shot - and with what you may save, you can put in the bank for a new MBP.

Hello everyone, like most people on this site, I am having difficulties understanding and fixing my Macbook Pro. About a month ago my computer screen went black, the computer was unresponsive, and it started making a beeping noise. I restarted the computer, and it seemed to have fixed itself. 6 days ago, I put my laptop into it's case with some papers, went home (about 30 min. after putting laptop into case), and opened my bag. My computer's fans were on, the computer was really hot, and when I opened the computer, the screen was black and unresponsive. I turned it off, let it cool down, turned it back on, started to stream a video on Hulu, and about ten minutes after, the screen went black again and the computer was unresponsive. Now everytime I turn it on after about ten to fifteen minutes the screen will go black, the computer will become unresponsive, and I have to shut it off. The weird thing though is that everytime I restart my computer, when I reopen my account, my computer acts as if nothing has happened, and everything I had opened or unsaved is still there without autosave saving the documents.The screen also goes black and the computer becomes unresposive when I move the computer around. I get a lot of pop-up ads and other crap on my computer when I am on the internet. I don't know if one of those pop-up websites might have given me a virus or may be the cause of this problem. I don't now what is wrong with my computer or how to fix it, but if anyone has any advice, I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT!!!!!!! Thank you very much!!!

To get rid of "pop-up ads and other crap on my computer when I am on the internet", click on Safari in the Menu bar, and select Preferences. Next select Extensions. Delete all of them. Restart Safari.
The first step in addressing the black screen is an SMC reset.
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

Mid 2010 MacBook Pro: Will randomly blue-screen and Safari repeatedly crashes.

I bought my MacBook Pro in June/July of last year, and it has worked perfectly fine up to this point. However, for the past 2 months or so, my computer will randomly go to a blue screen and log me out. Also, Safari will crash several times (it had never crashed on me until the blue-screen problem started. Both of these issues surfaced at the same time). For the most part, the blue-screening problem only happens when I'm using the internet, but sometimes it will happen when I am offline as well. This is an infrequent/inconsistent problem, though. It will blue-screen and Safari will crash one week, but then it will be perfectly fine for the next three or four weeks. What's wrong/how do I fix it?

Ipod crashes computer when itunes is running, get blue screen.
A while back my ipod started having trouble playing songs. I would tell it to play a playlist of say 50 songs, it would then freeze for about 30 minutes, and when it would finally start playing, it would be 30 songs into the playlist. I also couldn't get itunes to read it.
So I used itunes restore feature, and then after that, every time it tries to synch to itunes, it would crash the computer, and I would get the blue screen saying that my computer was dumping physical memory. Well nothing gets dumped from my computer when it does it, and the ipod stays the same.
I even tried formatting it manually, having windows fix it, having itunes restore it again, but always the same thing... once it was restored.. BAM computer crashes.
I can have it plugged in no problems, I can run itunes no problem, but when the two are done at the same time, it would crash my computer.
So I looked for other reasons. I needed major updates for vista, so I downloaded all of them, which took a while. And I even uninstalled itunes and re-downloaded and installed. Now what happens is Itunes freezes when it's plugged in, but I can still use all my other windows, just itunes is inoperable while the ipod is plugged in. As soon as it is unplugged, itunes starts working fine again.
I'm not that great with this sort of tech thing, so any suggestions would really be appreciated.

atapi.sys is a Windows OS file ... it's your Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller. So it's plausible that it's either got damaged, or we're looking at a driver issue that is manifesting as trouble with atapi.sys. So we'll proceed on those two fronts to begin with.
Just in case the file is damaged, I think we should try an sfc /scannow. It's not user-friendly on an XP system, but the following document may be of some help (fingers crossed):

If no joy with the scannow, we'll try making sure your drivers and so forth are up to date. If you've got a name brand PC, head to the manufacturer's website and look for the downloads page for your model. Look for newer versions of firmware for your hard drive, BIOS updates and chipset driver updates (in particular), but now might be a good time to check on things like video drivers, RAID controllers and so forth.
If you've got third-party componentry installed in the PC (like for example, a USB card, or an external drive, or a new internal hard drive), or if you have a home/custom-built PC, head to the websites of the manufacturer's components (in particular the motherboard manufacturer), and check for newer drivers, firmware and BIOS versions there. MacBook Pro Retina 13" fan very loud/overheats when playing full screen video/games

Just purchased a MacBook Pro Retina, refurbished (because why not - the same product for a cheaper price) around a month ago. It's the 13 inch and is the model before the most recent one came out (4GB of RAM instead of 8GB - late 2013). From the very first day, playing a full-screen video on any site (be it YouTube, Facebook, etc) just makes the fan much louder than usual (so loud that you can almost hear it more over the video itself). Thought it may have been just a thing with Flash Player being buggy, but the problem has persisted for a while now. I'm not even pushing the CPU to any limits - literally playing a full-screen video on Facebook (not even in HD) makes the fan go crazy.
Just last night I tried installing Borderlands 2 and it was the same thing - FPS rate was fine, no lag, just the fan was so loud that I actually got scared for my computer and turned it off. After closing the app and checking out the fan temperature, it was at 91c.
Never happens when browsing/surfing or doing my usual work.
Should I go give it back to Apple? The thing is I start university in less than a week (and hence will be traveling), so not sure if I can afford to give my laptop in to them for a long period of time (I know it should be free though since mine is a refurb item). May it just be an issue that is quickly repairable or is this worse?

Macbook Pro Screen wakes up from sleep without any acitvity

I've set my MacBook Pro screen to turn off after two minutes of activity. I've had this setting for all my Macs and I've never had any problems.
Recently though, my MacBook Pro's screen turns on by itself without me touching the computer or any mouse attached to it. What could be the problem?
It's really annoying when the screen turns on at night.
Any help will be appreciated.

I have the same problem. I brought up console and there is nothing at the same time as the screen turning on. My situation is as follows:
I put on a podcast. The only applications running are firefox and iTunes. I turn the screen brightness all the way down with the F1 key, then mouse over the corner of the screen set to turn the monitor off.
After about 6 minutes, the screen comes back on at brightness level 1. If I touch a button or the trackpad the screen turns back off. It stays off for about 6 more minutes and does it again.
Edit: I just checked the logs with all showing and the only thing I see is a Wake Reason = EC LID0.
Any tips?

My brand-new 11" MacBook Air skips thru my music video library without streaming them.

I just purchased an 11" MacBook Air. When I try to play a music video that is in the cloud, iTunes goes to the play screen as usual, but instead of streaming the content it jumps thru my entire music video library without to the playing anything. The name of each video is displayed for about a second, then the next name, and so on. No content is displayed. It will play a video that is already downloaded the machine as normal. I've rebooted the machine and rebooted iTunes, also I was able to stream the music video content in my library from another machine with no problem. Also, movies and TV shoes seem to work fine, but they are downloaded content and not streaming.
