Macbook Charger To hot to touch

Hi,
I have recently began having problems with my Macbook Pro Charger. I'm finding it very difficult to get the charger to actually charge my macbook. I have to move the charger around so it will begin to charge my macbook. The majority of the time my macbook will display a message says "Not Charging" and will not charge my macbook. The light on the charger only comes on occasionaly aswell. Today I touched the connector of the charger and it burnt my fingers, the charger was schorching hot. I'm quite worried that it is actually that hot! My macbook has also been making some unusal sounds whilst the charger is connected.
I am currently working in Greece which means its not possible for me to go to an Apple store. I am trying to determing whether this is a problem with my Mac or the charger itself.. Or possibly the plug sockets in the hotel I'm staying.
Thanks

You can try to clean the MagSafe (unplug mains first!!!) using a eartip (and lil alcohol) on the connector as well as your MacBooks socket.
If that does NOT change anything try to find someone with a MacBook and use his charger on you MB. If that charges straight away then the cable to the MagSafe connector might be internally broken.
You can try to temporarily fix this by wiggeling the cable in the right position and then to scotch tape it onto a piece of whatever (pen, pencil etc.) to keep it in the position where it actualy charges you MB.
In greece you might wonna try apple store online and have it delivered to your work place...
In any way good luck.

  • Macbook power (charging) adaptor hot

On occassion the MacBook Power (Charging) adaptor gets almost too hot to touch.  Any insights ?

That will be a function of the session time it has been connected to the MBP and the electrical power that the MBP has required.  I have recorded temperature of 52°c on my power adapter with any noticeable problems.
If you are concerned, place the power adapter on a thick aluminum plate which will act as a heat sink and help dissipate the heat.
    Ciao.

  • Battery Life is short and when i do charge the power supply gets to hot to touch?

Hi! I'm not sure whats Wrong with my MacBook Pro 15" - Mid 2010, i7, 4gb RAM, 512mb Graphics.
When i charge my MB it has a really short life (50 - 60 min) without using high demanding programs. I've had a look in system information and i found this;  Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 4858
im not sure what it should be but does it sound like a healthy battery?
My second question, the power supply is hot to touch is this a contributing factor? I took it in to apple and they suggested to buy a new charger, so £65 later and i still have the overheating of the power supply and the short battery life problems, HELP!

That is not a good sign.  Check the connection on the MBP to see if there is any foreign matter or discoloration evident.
Open System Information>Power and post this from your MBP:
(make certain that the charger is attached)
Also run an Apple Hardware Test.  You may use the appropriate original install disk for this which has the AHT instructions printed on it.
Note that an error free AHT is not definitive.
    Ciao.

  • Shuffle hot to touch, won't hold charge

But it will play if connected via USB post. May one safely assume the battery is toast (and thus the device itself)? No Apple store or service here, so off to the tip if my suspicions are correct. Comments/advice welcome

ipod shuffles do get hot when charging normally
Really? My 2nd generation iPod shuffle (silver, but from the neon color revision) does not get hot at all when charging. It warms up so slightly that you can barely feel it on touch.
but not to hot to touch. Yep too me it sounds like yours is dead for good.
Maybe it isn't broken, but the firmware got corrupted somehow. I'd suggest an attempt to restore it (preferably with the iPod Reset Utility) before giving up on it.

I  am using 2 unit provided AC charger to charge my iPad mini. After a while, I checked the device. The battery is no longer in charge mode. It is only 80% charged. When I touch the AC charger, it is hot. I need to switch off the AC charger to let it cool down before continue to charge my iPad mini again. Of course it will be 100% charge but must make sure the AC charger is cool down completely.
I feel that the provided AC charger that is not suitable for our charging on iPad mini.

I would book an appointment at an Apple Store, if you have one nearby, to have it looked at.

  • To Hot To Touch

I just got my MacBook Pro with retnia yesterday. Its my first mac. I am extreamly unknowlagebale about macs. Last night when I went to bed I plugged it in to charge. This morning when I went to get on it, it was incredibly hot, both the top and bottom, to hot to touch. Is this a normally prob.? It cooled off rather fast. Im just really concerend about my computer well being.

The machine should have gone to sleep overnight, unless you changed the default Energy Saver settings, and when it's sleeping it won't generate any heat. What was it doing this morning when you first discovered it was hot?
It's important to understand that a MBP can get quite hot when doing very processor intense tasks, or if it is used on an inappropriate surface. If you leave it running for a long period of time while it's resting on a soft, insulating surface (like a bed), this can not only trap excess heat on the bottom of the machine, but it can also cause the vents (hidden in the hinge) to be at least partially blocked.

  • My macbook gets really hot and has other problems

    Hi,
I bought the new MacBook Air 13inch two months ago towards the end of February, and there are serious problems with my mac.
First of all, I haven't dropped, spilled water, or did anything wrong to my MacBook Air. There aren't even any scratches.
But whenever I use it, the space above the keyboard and a little of the back of the macbook gets really really hot, to the point where it burns my fingers when I touch it. I always use my macbook on a flat surface, and never use it on my bed or anything.
Also, today the fan or ventilation got really noisy, from the top and bottom. The whole macbook was vibrating because of the fan noise.
And sometimes, my macbook air will stop playing sound. For example, when I'm watching a video or playing music, the sound will suddenly stop and will never come back on until I restart my macbook.
Even now as I'm typing this, the macbook is really hot and I'm very worried it might suddenly break.
I thought of getting it fixed, but the thing is:
I have bought this macbook in another country, and right now I am not living in that country (I moved to a different country). Will I be able to get my macbook fixed here?
If not, what can I do to make this all stop? Or what is it that I'm doing wrong that keeps making all this happen? (I watch movies and tv shows a lot, but everyone else that I know of do too, so...)
    Please help ASAP!!

Yes. Apple warranty coverage is international.
    Try resetting SMC.

  • IPad charger used for iPod Touch, now won't charge iPad

Hello everyone! I need help. :( This is what happened. i charged my iPod Touch with the charger that came with my iPad 2 and the iPod charged okay. Now I connected the charger to my iPad and there was no response at all (no charging or not charging sign).
This is the second time this happened. The first time was when my aunt used the iPad charger for her iPhone 4 which charged okay. When I used it for my iPad after, it did not work as in now. What I did the first time was connect the charger's detachable head (see image http://www.thefonestuff.com/product_images/c/441/MB706_AV1__57136_zoom.jpg) to a Macbook charger. The Macbook charged okay and when I reconnected it to my iPad, the iPad began to charge as usual.
I don't understand what happened. Was the charger somewhat "inactivated" in both instances because it was connected to a device that required a different amount of power? Without the Macbook charger, how can I "restore" the charger to its "iPad-optimized" state?
    Thank you for your reply!

    Icedgreco-
Changing the detachable head and changing it back, might wiggle an internal connection that is loose inside either the charger or the head.
It is also possible your charger cable has a bad connection.  Either way, I think you need to contact Apple about it.

  • Macbook charger on Macbook Pro?

I forgot my charger for my MBP at home and want to know if I can use my buddies regular Macbook charger he's not using. TIA.

Yes, you can use the MB adapter to run your MBP. But it won't provide sufficient power to charge the battery while you are using your MBP.

  • I had a fully charged fifth gen iPod touch.  Had nothing but trouble since updating to iOS8.  This morning the iPod was fully charged. Turned it off-on standby. Came back and it won't turn on. Tried all troubleshooting tricks. Anyone ideas?

This morning, I had my fully charged 5th gen iPod touch.  Have had lots of problems with it since updating to iOS8.  After briefly using it (successfully may I add), I switched it off to standby.  Came back only 10 minutes later, and it would not turn on. Tried all the obvious solutions, even switched out the lightening cord.  Apple support could not help, and their only solution is to call.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Any other solutions other than obvious ones?  iTunes no longer even recognizes the iPod. Thank everyone!

Hey Wildfarmrose, Have you tries any of these: iOS: Not responding or does not turn on , if still no joy try DFU Recovery Mode

About the only other thing to try is let the battery drain, then attempt to charge for 30 minutes and attempt to turn on, otherwise try another cable, and/or different computer, if still no joy most likely dealing with a hardware issue, schedule an appointment with the Genius Bar at your local Apple store and have your iPod evaluated. Don't forget to bring your cable also.  Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar

  • My daughter bought an 4th generation ipod classic without a charger.  We are using the charger from an ipod touch and it won't charge.  Someone posted online that not all chargers will work on the classic.  Anyone else have this issue and any suggestions?

My daughter bought a 4th generation ipod classic without a charger.  The ipod was working just fine, but then we tried to charge it using a brand new charger for an Ipod Touch.  It won't charge and someone online someone posted that there ipod touch charger worked on the ipad, phone and whatever else he had but it wouldn't work on the classic.  Anyone else have this same issue?  Any solutions?

The ipod did not come with a power cord as we purchased it used from ebay.  The ipod was half charged when we received it and it worked well enough to transfer songs to my computer (the previous seller didn't delete their 2000 plus songs).  My son then used the same cord on his computer to transfer the songs, but processed an update to the ipod and after that,it wouldn't work.  So, I'm not sure if we received a bum ipod, an update issue or we have a charger issue, but the cord we used to transfer the songs came from my son's brand new ipod touch.  We've also tried 2 other chargers from ipods we have in the house, 1 being a wall charger.
One individual posted online that he took his ipod classic, mac and phone overseas with one charger and it worked fine on all but the classic.  So, I'm thinking that they cords may not be universal.  Online I've read that it must be a 6 pin firewire, high power 2.0 usb cord.  Or that I need to purchase an applie charger.  We don't live close to an apple store and I'm reluctant to order one just to have it NOT work.
My daughter is learning the hard way that buying off of ebay is not always the best solution to a cash strapped 12 year old.
Any other advice is greatly appreciated.

  • If I charge my iPod 4 touch it tells me to connect it to iTunes and when I my do my iPod doesn't want to turn on what should I do ? can anyone help me please !!

If I charge my iPod 4 touch it tells me to connect it to iTunes ad when I do my iPod doesn't want to turn on what should I do ? PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME this has happened to me for 2 days

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Why does my macbook pro get hot

Why does my Macbook pro get hot while I am only on my email account?  This is a recent change.  It gets too hot too put in my lap.  Is it a battery issue.

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.

I have no idea what you meant by giving your sister your "iPod touch for proof". Proof of what?
The only way she could have traded it was recycling it for 10% off the cost of a new device but the Apple Store doesn't do this as far as I know for iPhones. You could take the receipt for your iPhone to the Apple Store and show it to the manager but you really need to solve this within your family.
